Onward: Orange

A Stormy Night

The night of day six of Grasshopper begins to get blustery, and rain begins to fall shortly after the sun sets. Just after midnight they are facing a full-on storm. It’s quite interesting to watch, for those who need a break from investigating. Especially up on the top floor, where the glass roof gives a good view; all the instruments are set up to monitor weather patterns and are operating perfectly, a fascinating watch for those interested in such things.

It’s a little noisy, but not too bad for those that want to sleep; it’s just another distraction along with the perpetual light. Still it is, for the most part, a peaceful night.

Lights OUT

Peaceful, that is, until about an hour before dawn on day seven, their third day on-world. A large clap of thunder booms overhead, a massive flash of light brightens even the sky around the station… and something hits the facility so hard that it seems to rock. The lights go out.

Every single light and screen in the building go dark at once.

It’s only a few moments before the machines whir back to life. Monitors and equipment rebooting, a cascade of beeps and whirrs and start-up tones. The lights, however, do not come back on. Clearly emergency lighting has never been a concern for a people that can see in the dark.

It’s a concern now. From across the facility, everywhere there was an orb, there are now monsters. A lot of monsters. Grey, long limbed and ready to attack.

Luckily for the Voidtreckers, the monsters on the very bottom floor have found something more interesting than hunting them. Within moments, they smash through the grates along the floor, and begin clambering downwards.

Downwards seems to be through some kind of service shaft, though easily big enough to fit a person in. They skitter down into the darkness, if any of Orange try and follow they can. It will be a steep, treacherous descent; they may need to break out that climbing gear to descend safely.

Something Approaches

Back in the facility, the monsters that didn’t descend are instead attacking anyone they find with mindless savagery. A little while after the attack starts those near the top floor will hear a siren, ringing out into the darkness. It is not constant, rather it peaks and fades. Anyone who goes to investigate will find it comes from a black metal machine on the top floor, its screen showing a now constantly flashing, wavy green line and the words SIGNAL FOUND. As time passes, the green wave on-screen grows taller.
Luckily, they only have to last the remaining hour until dawn and when the sunlight shines through the glass of the facility the monsters shatter. In their place rise familiar orbs. Any monsters on the sub-levels remain active whilst the facility is in darkness.

The alarm subsides during the day. The machine’s wave remains the same size, pulsing only occasionally. Once night falls on the third day (Grasshopper 7), it shrills, and the wave continues to grow.

Venus walked carefully, always on alert and ready for when they came at them; which wasn't that long as she spun around and gave them a massive kick to send them tumbling back for the moment while she could grab her weapon.

"You know, kicking them in whatever I am kicking and attacking with any ability I have which they seem to not like. They don't seem to like light"

Dyme, at least, stayed out of the way, jumping back and all but plastering himself against the wall. He definitely couldn't hit anything as hard as she did, even if he could throw a punch himself. He doubted he'd be able to make a dent on these things.

"Okay, that's good to know. I guess that's why they only came out now." Since the power was out.

"Exactly. So thankfully I have an attack that lights up so they will keep away from time to time. But I won'#t use it every single time, so I heard there is a light on that thing we wear" She gestures to her wrist where it's located.

"At least I've sen people use it, so you have that"

"Oh right, the flashlight." He should...probably turn that on. He fumbled with his SCA for a moment before getting the flashlight on, momentarily blinding himself with it. Lowering his wrist, he blinked away the spots.

"Wait, so you've got like, magic?"

"I guess you could call it that. It's an attack more than anything in connection to the planet Venus." As well mas her name anyway.

"Venus?" he repeated. "I have...zero idea where that is, but I'm not a planet expert, either. I mean, it sounds cool either way." He didn't know how attacks could be connected to planets, but he figured now wasn't really a good time to ask.

"I guess your world doesn't have Venus on it. Can I know a bit about your world? While I'm taking you to safety?"

"Or maybe it's just far away! Who knows. And sure," he said. Talking about home would help keep him calm, too, as a distraction.

"I live on a planet called Krele, and I was born in Ceol--that's a city. It's like...I don't know what else to compare it to, but it's really big. We've got space travel, and we trade with aliens. The aliens are pretty cool, and they're nice."

"Sounds like something from a Sci-Fi film. Which is pretty neat honestly. Space, people from other planets who you can trade with. Sounds lovely and peaceful." Though she probably figured there is always something going on underneath, but having a world be peaceful always sounded nice.

"It is pretty peaceful. We haven't had any big wars since I've been alive, just small stuff to worry about, you know? People being jerks, that kind of thing." Even the gangs in the city had quieted down over the years, which was pretty nice.

"I've always wanted to do some space travel, myself, but I've been too busy for it so far." Maybe someday he'd do a music tour across different planets though; that'd be cool.

"That sounds nice. Having a world that sounds so peaceful. Minus the people being jerks, but hey that's still good at least. Better than worlds with nothing but violence." So it sounded really nice and sounded like a world she herself would see in her own world when the time came for it.

"I guess this type of thing would be the closest thing to space travel when you think about it."

"Are there really worlds like that? Nothing but violence?" He didn't usually talk about home worlds with people, so he was a little out of the loop on some things, if anyone was here from someplace violent.

He almost tripped over his own two feet at the second part, though. "You're right. I hadn't thought of it that way, but we're totally traveling through space, aren't we? It might be different than back home, but it's still the same basic thing."

"Possibly. I mean I was never involved in any, but we had history where wars were a thing." But their future art least looked bright when Usagi became Queen at least, nothing but peace for a very long time.

"Yeah, there were wars on my world, too. I guess it's kind of inevitable that people are gonna be jerks to each other. I just hope there aren't any new wars." He was so used to things being calm and peaceful, he wouldn't even know what to do with a war. His father would probably rub it in his face though, if they'd been on speaking terms.

"Seems to be, but I like to think that someday things will be okay." With that, she stopped flashing light in a direction. She knew at this point they were close o what she hoped was safety.

her light caught something as she moved to unleash an attack down there, causing it to scatter as she kept moving.

"Nearly there now."

"Positive thinking is good thinking," he agreed, even though he was, at times, abysmally terrible at keeping positive. Didn't mean he didn't agree that it was a good idea.

"Also, I'm really glad you found me, I said that, right. You're really good at handling all of this." And badass, and pretty.

"It's the best thinking if it's possible. Though I can understand moments when people might not."
But she kept walking, finding herself closer to the way they came in when they originally arrived. it was better to be outside than in in her mind, more open that way.

"Okay, we're by the entrance so you can make your way out and hope there are others there. As for being glad, I have experience in handling tough situations where fighting is needed"

He nodded. "Okay. I should be okay from here." He hoped, anyway. If all else failed, he could try to run back to where the train had been. "Thanks again."
