[ Roland honestly forgets that Gerome comes from the same world as Inigo, which would mean they wouldn't be privy to the same rhetoric as Roland was, coming from his slightly more modernized world of sky scrapers and democratic elections. He's had a similar conversation before with the boy, so he chalks this one up to his own assumption. Though if he makes a face, it's only because Gerome seems to have a way of speaking that both amuses and baffles Roland. I've never heard a more serious teenager in my whole life!

He pauses his deep breathing to crack one eye open, addressing Gerome. ]

Acclimatizing. [ Roland resumes his breath cycle, hands on his hips. ] This isn't a very tall mountain, but we're still going slightly above sea level. So it's best to get used to the height little by little. Can't risk altitude poisoning, after all. Have you ever heard of it?
