The Will to Fight: Ongoing: Red and Purple

Dawn Attack

It's been a busy few days of fighting demons, attacking keystones and fighting both on the demon and human planes. On the morning of day nine of the month of Kazoo a gate opens close to the base camp that the two teams have made.

It seems the demons have decided to focus on this unexpected threat, because it is a sizable force, with a number of the large demons. They march towards the camp with single-minded focus, the opportunity to stop these unwanted defenders taking precedence over their desire to destroy the city.

The advantage to the landscape being as ruined as it is, is that there isn't much to stop the lookouts from seeing this force headed towards them. A gate opening is not subtle. There should be enough time to make sure the defenders are ready.

Scouting Ahead

Once that skirmish is won those on the Red team will find their SCA's beeping, with an exclamation point far out to the east.

A group of demons is congregating at the location indicated. Investigate why, defeat the demons and close any gates nearby.

It will take a while to get there and there is plenty to do on the way for those that follow the exclamation point. Roaming packs of demons, gates to be closed. Exhausting work, especially for those going in and out of the demon gates.

Protecting the City

Once it is clear that these defenders are not going to be easy to wipe out, the attacks on the city itself get more frequent. The demons have changed tactics: rather than sending in large groups they open many small portals, sending small strike teams to harry and target individuals.

Some of the attacks are clearly meant as traps: they open the gates in or very close to the city, to lure the Voidtreckers in to where they will be affected by the spell. Ranged attacks may be useful here.

The fighting becomes quiet, but there's a lot of death. It's hard to tell whether the end is near or not, for now, for a tense moment, rest is required before the final battle near the end of the week. He's waiting on one of the makeshift chairs at the edge of the camp, keeping on look out for intruders, but most of all, he's on the look-out for him. He waves so he could see him.

He got up to approach him and greet him. "Welcome back. How your day went?"

"I get to kill things all day, daozhang. How do you think my day went?" He doesn't feel bad about what he likes to do. And Xingchen is well aware of what he enjoys so there is no point in denying it. Xue Yang might not get the same satisfaction from killing demons as he does when he takes out his revenge on people, but there is still enough to drawn from the experience.

"I'm just ready to rest and do it all again tomorrow."

He's well aware and accepts that this is him, and it doesn't change what he thinks of him. "You did a good job." He trusts him enough that he does his job.

"I'll join you in your tent." Since he figured that will put Xue Yang in a better mood and he follows him willingly to his tent. "I needed a rest too. If you need something to eat, they have meals in the boxes left and I can fetch for you."

"Sure, might as well regain my strength with some food." He had taken some small things with him so that he didn't have to return to the camp to eat. So he had managed to take a few bites between battles but they definitely were few and far between. This was a much harder day of battles then it was the day before. The demons are clearly getting more angry.

He heads towards the tent, ready to just collapse on his bedding. he refuses to admit to how tired his body is.

Xingchen takes a few moments to gather a bento lunchbox and a drink of water just for him. When he sees him collapsed on the bed, he sits next to him, opens the box to reveal a bento box with rice, eggs, meat, and vegetables.

"You have to sit up to eat properly." Using a spoon to pick up a little bit of rice and places it near his mouth. "I'm going to feed you if you're too tired."

He laughs and pushes himself up. He opens his mouth with a playful expression as he lets Xingchen feed him. He is perfectly capable of eating for himself but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy this bit of spoiling.

"I'm not so tired that I can't feed myself but if you insist, I"m not going to stop you."

"Of course, but I insist." He looks happy, so that must be a good sign. "You've been fighting hard. All of that training and working out in the gym helps. You need to eat to keep up your strength."

He continues to feed him to spoil him that way. It felt nice and he wants him to feel happy and be a source of his happiness.

He will gladly take each bite of food. "Everyone has been fighting hard. Are you going to go and feed all of them too?" He does think that his training has been finally put to good use. He is able to switch between Jiangzai and his enchanted swords quite easily now and can tell when each one will be more useful.

He shook his head, thoughtfully. "True, but..." He continues to feed him until the whole box is gone. "I was worried if you're going to come back. I was waiting for you."

"You don't have to worry, daozhang. I know how to handle myself on a battlefield. I'm more used to this then I was with anything on that other world. And I'm not going to make the same mistakes I made on the one before that."

He doesn't have any intention of dying or letting something get to him. He has promised to come back safe to the train and he intends to do just that.

"Even if you went missing, I would go looking for you this time." He meant it. "I will search for you in this world or in the luggage carriage." They lost each other that way.

He tugs at his sleeve to gently guide him along, "Come over and rest in the tent. This time, you should come and sleep in mine."

"I'm sure you would find me, daozhang." He follows him along towards his tent. "Aren't all the tents pretty much the same?" He amused that they would chose to sleep in a different one tonight.

"Yes, they're the same. Mine is comfortable, so you spend inside with me." Inside, there's makeshift bedding with blankets too. He tugs him inside, so he could spend the night with him.

He lets himself get tugged inside and then settles down onto the bedding, flopping onto his back onto them. "What if I try and take up all of the bed, daozhang?" He stretches all out as if he was going to try.

He flops down on the beddings too, stretching out and scoots next to him, wanting the warm bodily contact, "Then you have to be nice to me and share."

"But I'm almost never nice, daozhang." He laughs and draws his limbs back in so that he isn't taking up the whole bed. Instead he rolls onto his stomach so that he can wrap an arm around Xingchen.

"Then I won't tell anyone that you are to me." He gently nuzzles him on the nose as they lay together side by side. The man is fighting hard to keep the demons at bay, and there's no telling what will happen next by the end of the week. But judging how fierce the demons are fighting, a final all-out war is imminent, and there's no telling what the outcome of the war will be.

"I'm very impressed by your fighting this week. Just thought you should know."

He grins as he leans into that nuzzling. "Have you been watching daozhang or are you just assuming it is going well because I keep coming back safe each night?"

He smiles a little bit, "I had been watching and pray for your return. If you come back safe and all right every night, then I'll be relieved. If you're lost, I will at least try to search for you before evacuation."

"I won't get lost daozhang. You won't have to go through the effort of searching for me. And if You do, just go back to the train because its possible I got there early."

Because if he absolutely has to avoid dying and he uses their escape button, that is where he will end up. And he would rather that Xingchen try there first before searching all over a strange planet for him.

"All right, but I rather put in effort." Because the effort is worth it. There's a bit of quiet in the tent. Even if he's strong and has a golden core, his physical and spiritual level is still dainty and he's working on strengthening through meditation.

"Remember you told me about being your light? I haven't heard it in a while. I would like to hear it again."

"You are my light, daozhang. You guided me back to the base camp without even trying. I just knew to come right towards you."

He grins as he closes his eye and rests there.

"When you said that, I don't believe you at first. Now I do. We're here now...and you fought well."

He noticed Xue Yang is drifting off, feeling sleepy, so he closes his eyes, holding him in his arms, and follows in suit. "Sleep well, A-Yang."

The exhaustion of fighting all day actually hits him when he is laying down. "Good night, daozhang." The words are said quietly, drowsily as he is already drifting off.
