Dawn Attack

It's been a busy few days of fighting demons, attacking keystones and fighting both on the demon and human planes. On the morning of day nine of the month of Kazoo a gate opens close to the base camp that the two teams have made.

It seems the demons have decided to focus on this unexpected threat, because it is a sizable force, with a number of the large demons. They march towards the camp with single-minded focus, the opportunity to stop these unwanted defenders taking precedence over their desire to destroy the city.

The advantage to the landscape being as ruined as it is, is that there isn't much to stop the lookouts from seeing this force headed towards them. A gate opening is not subtle. There should be enough time to make sure the defenders are ready.

Scouting Ahead

Once that skirmish is won those on the Red team will find their SCA's beeping, with an exclamation point far out to the east.

A group of demons is congregating at the location indicated. Investigate why, defeat the demons and close any gates nearby.

It will take a while to get there and there is plenty to do on the way for those that follow the exclamation point. Roaming packs of demons, gates to be closed. Exhausting work, especially for those going in and out of the demon gates.

Protecting the City

Once it is clear that these defenders are not going to be easy to wipe out, the attacks on the city itself get more frequent. The demons have changed tactics: rather than sending in large groups they open many small portals, sending small strike teams to harry and target individuals.

Some of the attacks are clearly meant as traps: they open the gates in or very close to the city, to lure the Voidtreckers in to where they will be affected by the spell. Ranged attacks may be useful here.

"Then I should make myself all the more visible," he growled, blasting another. He was using Bending at the moment because it was easier to Bend and talk than use his native powers. So one demon just looked like it was cut in half after he gestured at it.

"If I gave you a way to get all the young ones above this fight, could you get them back to the train?"

"None of my children would agree to that."

He didn't even have to stop to think to be sure of that. All of his kids were headstrong and determined to contribute, and would never retreat without being forced to.

As a pair of demons came at him from different angles, he raised his hands and two snowflake shaped buzzsaws of ice appeared at his feet and rotated upward around him in opposite directions, leaving long gashes crisscrossing over his attackers' bodies.

"And even for those who would...my method of teleportation is dangerous for those not shielded from the darkness."

"My method is safer but... my son wouldn't agree either," he admitted, ruefully. "Fine. Start spreading a rumor however you see fit that there is a child here, if you must. Better they go after me. I hate being mistaken for one, but if that can save the actual children here, I'll use it. I'll be bait and start working area of effect spells."

"I will see what I can do, if they are inclined to listen pay attention to conversation. But if you plan to make a target of yourself, watch your back. I don't want to hear about people dying because they pulled reckless stunts."

"Trust me, I have no intention of dying," he said cooly.

And not just because his boy would never forgive him. Or if he came bac, let him live it down.

"Then I expect to see you aboard the train when we prepare to leave." He pointed emphatically. "Had I the magic to spare, I might consider casting Auto-Life upon you, as well."

He had started to agree, then blinked. "What would you require to replenish your magic?"

"Typically, rest, with food being of help as well. I have alchemical concoctions that will restore magical energy, but as I only arrived with five of them and lack access to the materials I would need to brew more..."

He hoped it would be evident that this meant they were best saved for immediate emergencies.

"How thoroughly could you explain how it is made or the ingredients you need? I can cover you while you explain and if need be, while you brew."
