The Will to Fight: Ongoing: Red and Purple
Dawn Attack
It's been a busy few days of fighting demons, attacking keystones and fighting both on the demon and human planes. On the morning of day nine of the month of Kazoo a gate opens close to the base camp that the two teams have made.
It seems the demons have decided to focus on this unexpected threat, because it is a sizable force, with a number of the large demons. They march towards the camp with single-minded focus, the opportunity to stop these unwanted defenders taking precedence over their desire to destroy the city.
The advantage to the landscape being as ruined as it is, is that there isn't much to stop the lookouts from seeing this force headed towards them. A gate opening is not subtle. There should be enough time to make sure the defenders are ready.
Scouting Ahead
Once that skirmish is won those on the Red team will find their SCA's beeping, with an exclamation point far out to the east.
A group of demons is congregating at the location indicated. Investigate why, defeat the demons and close any gates nearby.
It will take a while to get there and there is plenty to do on the way for those that follow the exclamation point. Roaming packs of demons, gates to be closed. Exhausting work, especially for those going in and out of the demon gates.
Protecting the City
Once it is clear that these defenders are not going to be easy to wipe out, the attacks on the city itself get more frequent. The demons have changed tactics: rather than sending in large groups they open many small portals, sending small strike teams to harry and target individuals.
Some of the attacks are clearly meant as traps: they open the gates in or very close to the city, to lure the Voidtreckers in to where they will be affected by the spell. Ranged attacks may be useful here.

somewhere between dawn and scout
But still, they overcome the wave. A scattering of bodies left lifeless on the ground, the wounded back at camp, people recovering from the rude awakening and what it means. Tidus approaches Piccolo, word about the Red Team update spreading around, but...
"Hey. There's something out there Red Team's getting warned about. You seen anything on the demon side it could be?"
Despite the idea that had been formed with that talking book, Tidus just wasn't built for longer trips in the demon realm like the other pair. But maybe Piccolo's seen more in there than the more human lot of them...
i've read some demon realm knowledge stuff but not sure if Picc should know all of it...
Still...
"There were more demons out farther than the gate positions. I didn't catch direct sight of any buildings but if I had to guess there was something more out there for them. Somewhere they're gathered largely or settlements or something, surely." He paused briefly, not sure this really answered Tidus's question and thus how to get back to it. "So, no... not really. Other than the fact that there were more of them out there beyond where we were fighting that could be gathering up for more attacks."
it's ok!
"I don't get how they got this close without anyone noticing, that's what I'm worried about. They've been keeping one or two gates opened over here. They've been doing patrols. And all those showed up and made a gate right in front of camp? That's no good..."
Just what else did they have planned next? And the fact none of their actual fast travellers had seen anything of much either in those realms. Well, it was probably as fun in there for Piccolo as it was the rest of them.
"What're you gonna do? Head back out?"
no subject
Piccolo studied Tidus for a silent moment. He understood how the other felt but if it couldn't be helped then that was that. He didn't let anything show on his own end. Remaining strong in front of others was just what he did.
"What about you? Heading out with Red Team?"
no subject
"I want to, but... I'm gonna hang back and stick with Purple," he decides reluctantly, "just in case they get hit like that again. Spider's this side, and she's got her teleport magic if you guys need the extra hands. And I don't like to admit it, but being in that realm -- it's been messing with my head."
Except that's too negative a note to end on, so be rest assured, as he declares more determinedly: "But if anyone comes here, I'll be ready! And I'll come the second Red Team calls in for help!"
no subject
"After that little stunt, we never know when another attack will happen. They can always use more defenders."
And Tidus was probably one of the better fighters. Or maybe Piccolo was just being biased towards one of his students.
