The Will to Fight: Conclusion

The battles rage loud and ferocious at the gates of the city and off in the ruined wastelands of Erda, and on the walls a struggle of a different kind occurs. The team who stayed behind at the towers are small but determined as they move stoically across the walls to right the stones that have become misaligned, even as their friends battle not too far away.

The city begins to hum. It's a quiet hum, not loud enough to be heard out where the others are fighting but it vibrates even through stone. The recovering monks assure them that it is done, the wards are back up and no demon will be able to enter the city.

Eventually the battle is won, all three battles. The demons fought back and killed, a major blow to their gate system that will keep them back for hopefully a long time. Those waiting in the caverns return to the city and by the time they get there the illusions are gone. Everyone can see the world for what it really is.

But despite the ruins of their world the people are relieved, the adrenaline of the fight coursing through their veins and the mood is one of hope. They will build again, their people will survive.

It has landed not too far from the city, cloaked to make it unnoticeable to the citizens, for all the good that does. No one has been particularly subtle this last week. People can begin regrouping, packing up the camp and getting any wounded not already healed to the train.

However roughly half an hour later another message appears on their SCA.

Passenger Persephone has requested we remain on system System #86525656412355 for an additional day to further assist the people of Erda. The Voidtrecker Express will depart on the morning of Day Fifteen of the month of Kazoo.

The train remains where it is, so the voidtreckers can use its facilities. There is definitely a lot that can be done to assist those of this world and the citizens will welcome any helping hands.

After an extra day they finally depart, returning to the void once more.

(OOC Note: Once the wards are up any characters who are demonic in nature will not be able to enter the city either!)

Hmph! There are plenty of others who didn't just turn into... into a... [ uhm. she huffs, because isn't it ridiculous to imagine a mythical being is standing in front of her? But no, there are dragons here, why wouldn't phoenixes also...? ] You're a phoenix, right?

[She's entirely unsurprised that a-Qing has figured this out, what with her transformation on the battlefield earlier, and there's no reason to hide that anymore with people she trusts. She's sure she owes her an explanation for that kind of shocking reveal.]

I am, yes. [She tries to give a smile but it ends up looking guilty because of the huff.] My apologies for not telling you sooner, there was no time.

How can I criticise? You forgave me, so of course I'll return the favour.

[ even if faking blindness and being a legendary bird creature are on totally different scales, she kind of understands. Maybe people hunted her, back home? People would want to control such a powerful monster, whether or not she had her own mind.

She rests her free hand on her hip, expression severe. ] But only as long as you rest!

[She hangs her head down, having wanted to tell her sooner but still hesitant due to how hunted her kind were. If she could bring herself to tell her, she would, but it's still something that scares her even now. Even with others seeing that form and her being more alright with them seeing it.]

Yes, but I should have told you sooner. [Another sigh, more defeated this time.] Alright, I'll rest, but only if you get some too. That battle was stressful, but you did good. I'm proud of you.

[ She makes a show of considering this, as though Willow is driving a hard bargain, before nodding. Her grip shifts from wrist to hand, fingers worming into Willow's grip.

What was that praise? She didn't hear it, she's temporarily deaf-- never mind the pleased twitch of her mouth, or the slight flush. ]

Mm! If I didn't have a spirit beast, you wouldn't catch me near something like that ever again.

[She takes A-Qing's hand giddily, delighted at the girl agreeing to her bargain, as well as gives the slightest smirk at her reaction to the praise. It was deserved and she had to make it known.]

That creature is certainly something, those who use them are quite skilled! [Which isn't to say A-Qing isn't either.] But do be careful, won't you? I'd hate to have something happen to you!

I understand now, that kind of fight is a totally different world. I'll definitely train more before getting caught up again... [ She tries to look upset about that, but the pleasure of the compliment is lingering and ruining it.

Oh well. She discards the act. ] Sis, tell me! Were you born from an egg?

[She was about to say more about helping more, possibly even teach her some archery as another way to fight from a distance until she's asked if she came from an egg. To which Willow promptly starts laughing, and needs a couple of minutes to collect herself at such a sudden question. Such a correct one at that.]

I was, my people are all born from them! We spend our first 50 years as young birds too, since we have to learn to transform.

[ you fool, Willow, you've fallen for her trap. ] What's it like? Can you turn into other things, or just a human? Do you fight evil creatures?

[More giggling now, with a head shake at the transformation question.]

Only other kinds of birds, but I could probably learn the transformation magic to become other things if I had my spellbook, although it would never be as good as what comes naturally to me.

Evil creatures? Some, yes, if they cannot be reasoned with. I would prefer to reason and come to peaceful solutions if at all possible, however.
