The Will to Fight: Conclusion

The battles rage loud and ferocious at the gates of the city and off in the ruined wastelands of Erda, and on the walls a struggle of a different kind occurs. The team who stayed behind at the towers are small but determined as they move stoically across the walls to right the stones that have become misaligned, even as their friends battle not too far away.

The city begins to hum. It's a quiet hum, not loud enough to be heard out where the others are fighting but it vibrates even through stone. The recovering monks assure them that it is done, the wards are back up and no demon will be able to enter the city.

Eventually the battle is won, all three battles. The demons fought back and killed, a major blow to their gate system that will keep them back for hopefully a long time. Those waiting in the caverns return to the city and by the time they get there the illusions are gone. Everyone can see the world for what it really is.

But despite the ruins of their world the people are relieved, the adrenaline of the fight coursing through their veins and the mood is one of hope. They will build again, their people will survive.

It has landed not too far from the city, cloaked to make it unnoticeable to the citizens, for all the good that does. No one has been particularly subtle this last week. People can begin regrouping, packing up the camp and getting any wounded not already healed to the train.

However roughly half an hour later another message appears on their SCA.

Passenger Persephone has requested we remain on system System #86525656412355 for an additional day to further assist the people of Erda. The Voidtrecker Express will depart on the morning of Day Fifteen of the month of Kazoo.

The train remains where it is, so the voidtreckers can use its facilities. There is definitely a lot that can be done to assist those of this world and the citizens will welcome any helping hands.

After an extra day they finally depart, returning to the void once more.

(OOC Note: Once the wards are up any characters who are demonic in nature will not be able to enter the city either!)

Kaiba thinks a moment, then nods and sprints back to the 'tent'. He grabs a pile of freshly sprinted spare cards, then bounces over to his laptop, searches up an art database...

And he returns with a small handful of cards, many different creatures. Wolves, bears, elves, dolphins, merfolk, unicorns, and more....he's not sure what she'll llke, so there's a variety. He spreads them in front of her, duel disk strapped to his arm.

"Why don't you tell me more about what kinds of creatures you like?"

"I like puppies. And kittens. But not chickens. Chickens peck at you. They're nasty." The girl shakes her head, then confides in Kaiba: "I'm glad lots of the chickens are gone."

Most of the chickens had never existed in the first place. She gestures to Ken, who is still kneeling here with an Inzektor card in full display.

Three guesses what he runs, Kaiba, and why.

"Are there puppy cards like his bug cards?"

"That's right. The chickens didn't like me either---I still have the battle scars from that one."

Kaiba smiles at the Inzektor cards and shuffles through his deck thoughtfully. He knows just the one, and withdraws a card of a cute puppy, as requested.

"Marron may not look strong, but he's especially loyal. No matter what happens, he'll always come back to you. That's his gift."

He crouches in front of her and offers the card.

When the girl accepts the card, her eyes grow wide. "So he's the BEST BOY!!"

Wormmon leans against Ken, as if worrying his own best-boy status may be in doubt. Ken smiles. "Mm. Loyalty's a precious treasure."

"Oooh~~~"

Wormmon has to hide his face. He's blushing!

"That's right."

Kaiba smiles at her, relieved to have brought her a moment of joy in this dark time. He then turns to Ken and Wormmon.

"And you both have that in spades. It's a good thing you were here."

Now it's Ken's turn to blush, self-conscious but pleased. He's learned this isn't all that matters, but he still....he can't deny he likes feeling his accomplishments have worth.

"I wish there was more we could leave behind...." he muses, now that he's thinking about this. "There has to be some way our time here can assist. Even once we're gone."

People who swoop in and then don't clean up the mess haven't actually helped! It's the recovery that's every bit as important!
