The Will to Fight: Conclusion

The battles rage loud and ferocious at the gates of the city and off in the ruined wastelands of Erda, and on the walls a struggle of a different kind occurs. The team who stayed behind at the towers are small but determined as they move stoically across the walls to right the stones that have become misaligned, even as their friends battle not too far away.

The city begins to hum. It's a quiet hum, not loud enough to be heard out where the others are fighting but it vibrates even through stone. The recovering monks assure them that it is done, the wards are back up and no demon will be able to enter the city.

Eventually the battle is won, all three battles. The demons fought back and killed, a major blow to their gate system that will keep them back for hopefully a long time. Those waiting in the caverns return to the city and by the time they get there the illusions are gone. Everyone can see the world for what it really is.

But despite the ruins of their world the people are relieved, the adrenaline of the fight coursing through their veins and the mood is one of hope. They will build again, their people will survive.

All Voidtreckers please return to the Voidtrecker Express. Departure will be in a few hours

It has landed not too far from the city, cloaked to make it unnoticeable to the citizens, for all the good that does. No one has been particularly subtle this last week. People can begin regrouping, packing up the camp and getting any wounded not already healed to the train.

However roughly half an hour later another message appears on their SCA.

Passenger Persephone has requested we remain on system System #86525656412355 for an additional day to further assist the people of Erda. The Voidtrecker Express will depart on the morning of Day Fifteen of the month of Kazoo.

The train remains where it is, so the voidtreckers can use its facilities. There is definitely a lot that can be done to assist those of this world and the citizens will welcome any helping hands.

After an extra day they finally depart, returning to the void once more.

(OOC Note: Once the wards are up any characters who are demonic in nature will not be able to enter the city either!)

work... maybe

"Were you flirting with her?" Ple Two clearly saw some of that. She's been working on anything small and detailed that her nimble fingers can help with, while propping up anyone bigger and stronger but way more tired, given that she's been avoiding the fighting.

There's no way she can just pass on calling Yondu out for that one, though, at least for a moment. "And I need to check for something in your toolbox."

Welp, he sure did get caught by a kid. But considering how some people on the train act, he shouldn't be embarrassed none by it. He didn't even get to any really good terrible lines.

"She started it, I just didn't have no problem with it."

He hands over the toolbox. "It's pretty basic. All the tools in it were for fixin' appliances. But considerin' the technological value of this place..."

At least she's seen worse by far. "Ha. Well, I guess that's a kind of comfort too." He's helping, sure.

Ple Two peers through it. "I might need one of the smaller screwdrivers. There's a lot of little things to help with to get a few of these buildings safe."

"Yeah, go ahead. I already replaced a ton of doors so I'm bettin' there are other places with other broken stuff. I just need those two wrenches- keep comin' across the same sink problems."

Everything is wonderful in the world until the world is too good to check for leaks.

"You an' all the others stay pretty safe durin' that last fight?" Yondu went out for it. He figured his talents were better spent fighting than down a cavern; but then he got illusioned.

"Can't let water damage build up." That'll destroy your floor and you'll end up with buildings that aren't much better than the one he knocked down earlier.

"Blue Team kept safe. Focused on making sure the civilians were able to keep going. It's... difficult to balance, being tough enough on them to push them forward, while being kind enough to not turn it into a fight." Which, hey, she did avoid.

"To be honest it was better than handlin' my old crew. Had 300 plus guys when it was goin' good an' a solid half of 'em were dumb as damn rocks. I shoulda fired 'em but I needed the manpower... still it was easier to talk to these folks than it was bossin' them."

Once he got the hang of it, anyway, and the urge to threaten ebbed.

"Seems like y'all worked it out, though. Big fight was a shit-show but the keystone crew pulled it off."

"Glad I was never in charge of people." Child soldiers can be useful, sure, but don't put them in charge of a bunch of adult soldiers. "That's not too unusual, I guess. Things come down to the wire pretty often."

"It ain't too bad if they're smart. An' by smart I mean 'can do basic math' an' maybe at least read a couple of books willingly. Not like, a rocket scientist or nothin'." Yondu's standards for crew were very low. Some didn't even manage that level. Maybe before the exile he could have.

"Believe me, if I had the chance to do it again, I'd do a smaller crew with higher skill. Just for the stuff I was doin', I needed a lotta manpower."

"Those are... standards." Math, you would expect, yes? Soldiers have some baseline standards, though, especially in space. "Mm. And to have both, you would end up delegating too much."

"Yeah... there were a bunch of other complications."

Mostly if people joined his Ravager clan, it was often because the other Ravager clans wouldn't take them. He had to make do with whatever leftovers he could scrape up. But that is, something, he acknowledges is his fault and isn't something to really voice.

So instead he gestures around.

"Meant these people were pretty easy to handle once they got shit figured out though. I guess I did end up with more experience than I expected." Just it was experience in herding stupid.
