The Will to Fight: Conclusion

The battles rage loud and ferocious at the gates of the city and off in the ruined wastelands of Erda, and on the walls a struggle of a different kind occurs. The team who stayed behind at the towers are small but determined as they move stoically across the walls to right the stones that have become misaligned, even as their friends battle not too far away.

The city begins to hum. It's a quiet hum, not loud enough to be heard out where the others are fighting but it vibrates even through stone. The recovering monks assure them that it is done, the wards are back up and no demon will be able to enter the city.

Eventually the battle is won, all three battles. The demons fought back and killed, a major blow to their gate system that will keep them back for hopefully a long time. Those waiting in the caverns return to the city and by the time they get there the illusions are gone. Everyone can see the world for what it really is.

But despite the ruins of their world the people are relieved, the adrenaline of the fight coursing through their veins and the mood is one of hope. They will build again, their people will survive.

All Voidtreckers please return to the Voidtrecker Express. Departure will be in a few hours

It has landed not too far from the city, cloaked to make it unnoticeable to the citizens, for all the good that does. No one has been particularly subtle this last week. People can begin regrouping, packing up the camp and getting any wounded not already healed to the train.

However roughly half an hour later another message appears on their SCA.

Passenger Persephone has requested we remain on system System #86525656412355 for an additional day to further assist the people of Erda. The Voidtrecker Express will depart on the morning of Day Fifteen of the month of Kazoo.

The train remains where it is, so the voidtreckers can use its facilities. There is definitely a lot that can be done to assist those of this world and the citizens will welcome any helping hands.

After an extra day they finally depart, returning to the void once more.

(OOC Note: Once the wards are up any characters who are demonic in nature will not be able to enter the city either!)

"I'm not a nice guy." Demyx said, shaking his head. He definitely believed that, he couldn't qualify anything he'd done as nice. He was going more for harmless, over nice.

"Ah, I can summon a lot more than that." Demyx considered. "Well, that makes sense at least." He was much more comfortable with someone wanting to use him, over an accusation that he was somehow a good person.

"I said it was less important. You're a nice guy. Someone who wasn't wouldn't have helped, would have put a lot of people in danger. And you didn't."

Not arguable, Demyx.

Demyx pressed his lips together, but shook his head. "You don't really know me. I've done that."

He had been loathe to admit that on board so far.

"Okay, but do you do that now? I'm not saying whatever you did was excusable, but what you do now is more important." Face the past, embrace the past, change the future. If he'd learned anything from the dungeons he'd been through, it was that.

[melodiouspacifist]

"I'm not stupid." Demyx chuckled. "I mean, I might not be smart, but I'm not stupid enough to just cause problems."

His grip on his sitar tightened. He wasn't sure why he was protesting so hard, maybe he just didn't think he could be that good. He wasn't. He was selfish. He just wanted to survive. That wasn't very nice either, was it?

"But do you want to cause problems? That's the important thing here. Not counting pranks or whatever done in good fun." Maybe he was pushing Demyx a little too much... but sometimes that's what was needed.

[melodiouspacifist]

"No one told me to so...no." Demyx said with a small shrug. "Not really. I kinda just want to sit around and play sitar, but if I don't have a choice."

Cornered, backed against a wall?

"I'm going to live."

[helborn]

"... That's understandable. But... do you have to take orders? Hurting others isn't exactly a safe sort of thing to do, if you're looking at it that way."

[melodiouspacifist]

"He's gone now so...not really? I hope." Demyx sighed a little bit. "I mean, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna come around and tell me what to do."

He wasn't sure what he'd do if he did. "I'm pretty sure he's hidden my heart somewhere."

[helborn]

... He's going to assume the heart is metaphorical. "You're doing things without it, aren't you?

[melodiouspacifist]

"Do I have a choice?" Demyx asked. "Course not. That's what makes me a Nobody."

[helborn]

"You're making choices all the time right now. You don't have to talk to me, but you are. You didn't have to help, but you did."

[melodiouspacifist]

"I mean, I guess that's true. I don't know why I did what I did." Demyx admitted with a bit of a slump to his shoulders. He'd done some strange things on that mission.

[helborn]

"Because you cared. Deep down, you know that you do care." Was he ever going to let go of this? Absolutely not.

[melodiouspacifist]

"I can't." Demyx insisted. "People without hearts can't care - and its fine, I don't want to!"

Caring about people led to feelings and feelings like that led to him getting stabbed in the back metaphorically. It was a dangerous game.

[helborn]

"There's a huge difference between 'can't' and 'don't want to', you know." He'd tried the latter. Didn't work in the slightest. "Who said you can't, anyway?"

[melodiouspacifist]

"Uh, well probably the Superior in all of his many longwinded speeches, but like I mean...Vexy thinks that can change but I don't know."
