The Will to Fight: Conclusion

The battles rage loud and ferocious at the gates of the city and off in the ruined wastelands of Erda, and on the walls a struggle of a different kind occurs. The team who stayed behind at the towers are small but determined as they move stoically across the walls to right the stones that have become misaligned, even as their friends battle not too far away.

The city begins to hum. It's a quiet hum, not loud enough to be heard out where the others are fighting but it vibrates even through stone. The recovering monks assure them that it is done, the wards are back up and no demon will be able to enter the city.

Eventually the battle is won, all three battles. The demons fought back and killed, a major blow to their gate system that will keep them back for hopefully a long time. Those waiting in the caverns return to the city and by the time they get there the illusions are gone. Everyone can see the world for what it really is.

But despite the ruins of their world the people are relieved, the adrenaline of the fight coursing through their veins and the mood is one of hope. They will build again, their people will survive.

All Voidtreckers please return to the Voidtrecker Express. Departure will be in a few hours

It has landed not too far from the city, cloaked to make it unnoticeable to the citizens, for all the good that does. No one has been particularly subtle this last week. People can begin regrouping, packing up the camp and getting any wounded not already healed to the train.

However roughly half an hour later another message appears on their SCA.

Passenger Persephone has requested we remain on system System #86525656412355 for an additional day to further assist the people of Erda. The Voidtrecker Express will depart on the morning of Day Fifteen of the month of Kazoo.

The train remains where it is, so the voidtreckers can use its facilities. There is definitely a lot that can be done to assist those of this world and the citizens will welcome any helping hands.

After an extra day they finally depart, returning to the void once more.

(OOC Note: Once the wards are up any characters who are demonic in nature will not be able to enter the city either!)

Devero can't help himself-- he grins right back and raises an arm to show the ostentatious band around his wrist. "You know, I might have some in here," he says. He touches the band with his other hand-- or rather, would have touched it if his hand didn't just disappear into a flash of light.

He does actually have rope in here, and if he were a meaner-spirited person, he probably would draw it out and see how serious Zagreus is. But he's not, and his hand is empty when he pulls it out again. He does still sigh theatrically, though; "Out of luck."

While Zagreus is squinting at Thanatos, Devero's taking a look at Zagreus. If the burning feet hadn't tipped him off that this guy's probably not human, the 'mortals' comment certainly does. He twists his lips and says dryly, "Yes, that's when us mortals usually try to rest.

"Zagreus," he repeats. He actually bows a little in the other god's direction-- handshakes haven't been a thing in his world for a while. "I'm Devero, he/him for pronouns. I-- I'm afraid he hasn't mentioned you?" Sorry, celebrity, but Devero's somehow missed out on Thanatos's mentionitis.

Zagreus' mismatched eyes widen at Devero's party trick, and he actually looks a bit disappointed when Devero doesn't come back out with a whole skein of rope. But still, it's pretty cool to see the man's hand disappear and reappear. "So you have a realm in there that you can store things in? That's amazing, mate! How much can you store in there? Is it infinite? How do you keep everything sorted in there?" He's just going to keep asking questions like an excited child, sorry about that.

"It's hard to tell when it's day or night when you can't actually see the sun anywhere in the Underworld," he defends himself, though he returns the smirk with one of his own. "Saw it for the first time back home... tsch, I'm bad at estimating time, let's say a week, two weeks, before I was brought here? Sure, sounds about right."

The bow kind of throws him off, and he tries to mimic it, though his is stilted and awkward. "Oh, great! Means I get to introduce myself for once. I, er, I'm he/him as well, I suppose. Never thought about having to clarify that before. I'm prince of the Underworld, but my Father is an obstinate arsehole and I don't like to talk about him much! But Than works for my Father, along with Than's brothers, Charon and Hypnos... hmm, what else is there to say about me... I'm quarter-mortal on my Mother's side... and I just learned to fish and to play the lyre? Sure, let's go with that."

"I don't know that I'd call it a realm," Devero says. "I think it's more accurate to say it's a pocket dimension. Honestly, since it's magic, I try not to think too hard about the way it works." His poor science-brain can't handle that. "Since it's magic, though, all I have to do is make sure I'm thinking about what I want when I reach in there and voila, I'll have it in my hand!" The capacity question stumps him, and he frowns thoughtfully. "I actually don't know how much it can hold; it's not mine. My boyfriend has let me borrow it for the mission."

...Underworld. Okay. They're gods, that tracks. He takes the explanation in stride, nodding, before asking with honest curiosity, "How do you find it, then? The sun, I mean?" He's met all sorts here on the train, but not yet someone who grew up, er, underground.

Devero laughs softly, charmed by Zagreus's introduction. "I'm sorry to hear that about your father," he adds. "No one should have to deal with bullshit from someone who's supposed to be family." But Zagreus has said he doesn't want to talk about it, though, and Devero tries to respect boundaries like that. So he continues on. "Are you the god of something as well, then? Is it rude to ask what?"
