The Endless River
On the morning of day twenty one of the month of Kazoo there is a message on the ICP screens around the train. Their SCA's will light up the colour of the Void and show the following information.
On-board
The dressing carriage is open, filled with clothing best suited to a pleasant spring day. Light, airy and in a rainbow of joyful colours and florals. One closet is entirely filled with wide-brimmed hats bedecked with ribbons, feathers and ornaments. A stack of picnic baskets and containers filled with an alarming variety of passenger-suitable foodstuffs and flasked drinks sits in one corner, next to rolls of thick, weatherproof blankets in the four team colours.
The large box marked Do Not Use Yet, filled with small, empty jute bags, is hopefully still sat in the Luggage carriage, ready for passengers to grab handfuls of its contents as directed by the announcement.
Upon landing (after an appropriate countdown), the train remains on the surface, its carriages partially curved to form a gathering site for the day. Welcome to Tshering, the eighth void nexus!

A Day for Picnics
Tshering, system #398050, is a strange place, only habitable by grace of the passengers' SCAs. The sky is shot through with colours, a cascade of sunsets, and through it, the void shimmering through it in seams like a child's painting of the milky way. Still, there's a beauty to the chaotic mash of colours that soaks through its landscape, and in the shelter of the forests of towering funghi that dot its surface, the Void can go unseen by its visitors.
The temperature seems mild, suitable for the provided clothing, and if there are weather patterns around the world they've taken the day off. The funghi are sturdy enough that what air flow there is doesn't disturb their stalks, and carved grooves and holds in some of the larger examples indicate that climbing them to sit atop their glowing crowns is eminently possible, and, in fact, encouraged.
the Endless River
The Endless River is a font of pure chaos, flowing from a multitude of small rivulets across the area to a central reservoir, from which it pours directly upwards, away from Tshering's surface and out of sight, beyond the world's atmosphere.
Anything bagged and placed within the Endless River will also flow upwards and soon be out of sight, passing, presumably, into the Void. Scattered across the surface of Tshering are small, glittering pebbles, as described in the announcement.
The stones are pleasantly cool to the touch, and all passengers need to do is feel. Messages can be in any form that the Voidtreckers wish. Perhaps words, perhaps feelings, perhaps an image from their mind into the stone. Perhaps a mixture. Once they begin their message the stone will glow slightly and continue to glow as they secure it in the bag and cast it into the river. They will feel, almost instinctively, that they need to focus as they do so, thinking of the person they wish to reach all the while.
There are plenty of bags and many more stones; passengers will not be limited in their sendings.
World #398050 is a void nexus known locally as Tshering. As a void nexus this world has strong links with the void and the connection through worlds. World #398050 is home to the Endless River. Legends speak of this river being powerful enough to send thoughts from one heart to another across any distance. All that is needed is for you to know who it is you wish to reach.

"I used to go on lots of picnics. In the heavens we had lots of festivals and a lot of them had picnics as part of them!"
He makes sure Wormmon has access to all the food, so he can choose what he wants. "Did you go on lots of picnics before?"
i don't...remember....working him through this....at this age....
Ken is stuck earlier in the conversation, though. "......The heavens?"
no subject
He finished unwrapping the last couple of things that he bought, this was going to be a great feast. "It's where the gods live and shinki like me and we could travel down to the human world to help them! And to have picnics and festivals!"
no subject
Wormmon is intrigued by both the food and this description of Romeo's home! He inches forward. "You aren't from the human world? Me neither!"
---We never.
Would have guessed, Wormmon.
no subject
But Ken seemed human, so something special must have happened that they could meet each other!
"How did you and Ken find each other?"
no subject
Wormmon....Wormmon has always waited for him. It doesn't matter how long Ken takes. Wormmon will always wait for him.
"I received a device that lets me visit Wormmon's world." Among other features, but this one is the most pertinent. "He found me there."
The partners share a look. Neither of them has to say any more.
no subject
Romeo grinned at them both. "You waited your whole life? That's so patient of you but you found each other in the end!"
And Ken could go to Wormmon's world! That was amazing too!
no subject
Ken blushes. Hearing it so directly is overwhelming.
no subject
Right? That's what they were feeling right now. Ken's heart was so warm that his face was all red.
no subject
"Who are your best train friends?" Wormmon wonders. Romeo must know all the best people, if he's been here for so long.
no subject
A lot of his friends were gone, he punched the air to keep his spirits up. It was alright because there were so many more people to make friends with.
"A lot of the grown ups are really nice and fun to be around as well!"
no subject
But he's going to get hung up on The Far Shore lore again. (.....The Far Lore.)
"When you were alive...so, shinki are..."
It is that kind of Heavens. Ken has met the god of peaceful Death - who was very nice, and had a mouse - and Wormmon has experiences with death and rebirth, as well. He's not frightened by ghosts.
He just feels....many things at once. It might take him a moment to sort them out.
no subject
He nodded, "Shinki are spirits and we get a special name by a god and then we are their weapon that they can use to fight bad monsters with. But it's okay 'cause those monsters aren't here. I've not seen one since I came to the train."
Lucky really!
no subject
Wormmon's attention has been grabbed by another part of this explanation. (Which is probably for the best, because he is not...great...with ghosts.) "You're somebody's partner, too...."
He never THOUGHT he would meet a partner who wasn't a Digimon! Shinki don't seem to have waited forever for their gods, so it's not quite the same, but whoever has Romeo as their not-Digimon must be really lucky.
no subject
It might be a new partnership but he is trying to be the best shinki he can be, even if he misses Elfnein an awful lot!
no subject
Ken and Wormmon have not had the pleasure of Zetta's acquaintance this time around, but they were faintly aware of something happening last platform:
"Oh! From the song!"
Ken-chan hadn't wanted to go see, because he got a bad case of Secondhand Embarrassment. But Wormmon thought anybody who could sing a song like that in front of strangers had to be very brave.
no subject
He sighed slightly, "He doesn't get anyone to sign up though."
no subject
Wormmon looks hopeful. Maybe there is a club or a team Ken-chan can join on the train, in addition to the orange polo people. It would be nice to do more things with Romeo.
no subject
Romeo actually doesn't mind living on the train, but he knows a lot of people are sad and want to go back to their own worlds.
no subject
That hadn't even occurred to Ken. When you're summoned somewhere, it's because you're needed, right? He's also not sure he likes the idea of 'conquer', but....if Mister Zetta is a friend, a partner, of Romeo's, then.....
He looks so confused. Chalk another one up to liking the train, Romeo.
no subject
He can understand that.
no subject
"You have a good partner," concludes Wormmon. "Ken-chan, let's try to meet him."
Huh....Ah.
"....Yes," Ken agrees. Mister Zetta....Ken's making up this weird feeling. Romeo cares a lot about his partner. Any trepidation is entirely on Ken.
no subject
He grins, "Even if he is a bit grumpy about it. He's just like that!"
