The sali is quiet for a moment, assessing the information, then holds out their arm.

"Stick to field medicine, for any of ours that you treat, until your remedies can be tested on sali not harmed. I am not inclined for the injured to be tests. Here - test your ability now. Heal your own if it doesn't work."

She doesn't waver at the face of what might happen, keeping the same cool attitude she has since their meeting. Eyes on Ryo, waiting.

"That's fair." There's an element of risk to his healing anyway - no sense in making it worse.

He takes the sali's hand in both of his, looks up at them for a moment, and focuses on his magic, reaching out to connect their life to his-

The rebuff against his magic isn't sharp so much as it is very sudden and very firm - a bit like walking straight into a wall. Given the way things are here, he can't say he wasn't expecting something like this. He doesn't have to worry about breaking the connection, as there was never one to begin with, and he releases their hand. "It's not going to work." He has no idea what that felt like on their end, if anything - it's never happened to him before - but even though he might be telling them something they already know, it's worth making sure.

It isn't a one-sided rebuff, a reaction to his attempt that Ryo would be ignorant to. Like this, a connection is nearly made, something grips - and the sali feels it more than even Ryo does, immediately so. The sali's face contorts against their usually muted expression, their arm jerking, pulled back away from Ryo.

They take in a few breaths, staring at Ryo quietly, as they feel the ache in the arm from the attempted connection. But, before the pain even recedes:

"Go with your people. Follow our healers' instructions you meet."

Their tone is slightly shaken, but with that instruction, they lift their chin to the exit, expecting him to leave first.

Well that's not good.

It's one thing for his magic to simply reject the connection; it's another thing entirely for the sali to be in pain over it. It's a little worrying, in the same way the sun is slightly warm, and for a few moments he doesn't move, looking at the sali, searching their face, their voice for an answer he knows he's not going to get but still can't help trying. What had happened?

The moments pass, and nothing is better - nothing is answered or solved - but that's going to have to be good enough. Much as he hates it, that's just how this mission has been so far. He moves towards the door, then pauses and looks at the sali again. There is something he can ask. "Will you be alright?"

He's a healer. He has to.

They're also going to the same way, so the sali isn't far behind him. The pot tucked under their other arm, stopping as he does, looking back at him.

"You should learn priorities." An observation that has been nothing but clear about this person, since they've spoken, and they don't bother to not voice now. "Ask later. Go. We waste time."

They are to the point, but their tone reaches for no edge, simply wanting to get to work.

"I know my priorities." The answer is immediate and firm, even if he does feel like he's just been slapped in the face. He's a healer. His priorities will always be the well-being of others.

But he can also recognize a non-answer when he hears one, and he keeps moving as indicated. It's better than wasting time arguing.

The sali says nothing to the defence, and as Ryo moves throug the curtain to the hall, so does the sali, to continue down to where they're needed.

The pair will have some time, before some other sali is likely to come and find them. But for now, NPCs out.
