No Place Like Home: Outside

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: OUTSIDE

HOME SWEET HOME
You find yourself not on a wide station platform, in the clothes you last remember, holding what you were when you went through the glas door. There's no longer a train behind you, no sound of its whistle, with no other passengers around you in similar style of clothing to your own.

You're somewhere familiar, or just - the last place you remember being before your life became tethered to the Voidtrecker Express. A field, a city, a kingdom, or perhaps even a space station. You should be nowhere, yet you find yourself somewhere, despite all odds.

People - if there are people - don't at first notice you; but attract enough attention to yourself, and that will all change. Friends, family - are they near, a phonecall away? It's either everything you wanted or everything you imagined (for good or worse), and it could seem unbelievably real. But it is real - you're off the train, back somewhere you know.

Finally - the journey is over...

...If only.

You're moving away from where you arrived, for whatever reason. Who wouldn't? You may be far from home, have business elsewhere, or want to go sightseeing. It's time to return to - and live - your life, and that doesn't include sticking to one place.

But you'll find that when you reach a point, the world becomes...foggy. A fog that you hadn't seen in the distance before it appears, and when you walk through it, you'll find yourself in a place some have already found themselves in.

Because for some passengers, there was nowhere for them to return, and so the barriers lead only to fog, and then straight back onto the platform. The Voidtrecker Express may be stationed, or there may be a blanket of fog where it should be; sometimes, it can be caught trying to leave the station, only to come back a few minutes later. The doors are shut tight, and the windows are obscured, showing nothing inside.

Those who came from somewhere can go back, should they go through the turnstiles again. And if they want, they can take people along with them, too...

But sometimes, they go to a world no one knows. They go through the barriers into nothing, a black emptiness. Not space, for those that know space, and it doesn't seem to be the void either. But it is a void, devoid of anything at all. Just a darkness so complete they will not be able to see anything at all, they will only know their companion is there through touch and sound. How they are breathing, how they are living at all, is a mystery; one probably answered only by the SCA on their wrist.

Being there brings an unease deep down inside them. This place is not natural, not somewhere that they should exist in. Not a place that should exist at all. Luckily they are never there for more than a few moments before they return once more to the station, fog covering them like a safety blanket.

A DIFFERENT CORNER: LOCATIONS

In the first couple of days (whatever that means, when time doesn't match up between most places), the only way to move to another's tethered location is by them leading another there. But after that, individuals will show up in other locations when they reach close to the distance limit. Indeed as time goes on everything gets a lot less stable. They may know their five miles perfectly but still one step to another leads them back to the platform. Attempting to return to their world leads them somewhere else entirely.

And there's quite a few places to end up.

OOC NOTES
OOC post. Ask questions here.

LOCATION TOPLEVELS: Since it'll be easier for players to engage with settings presented by those offering them, when we see a toplevel for one of the above locations put up, we'll add it to the list! We've also included the OOC comments for settings to the side, so any questions can be left with the player, as well as extra details. Please always speak with the player first if you intend to do anything drastic to the setting!

A REMINDER: Time of log is Poi 22-25, but time within worlds can last up to a maximum of two weeks. Minimum is whatever you want it to be.

During Poi 22 and 23, characters will need to be led to a location to be able to access it. From Poi 24, people will show up in locations regardless of invitation.

The second half of the event will go up during 20th to 25th February (Poi 26-28). But as always, play around in here and do as you like!

If your character's setting isn't above, link us to it in the Questions post, along with your toplevel! We'll add it.

"You watch too many movies," Devero says, but distractedly as he looks around with wide eyes. His attention focuses right back on Yondu though and he murmurs softly, "Me too."

"Gonna be honest, it woulda felt like my luck if it had. Sure woulda loved goin' through that however many times I'd need to." Maybe a hell he deserved. Though he didn't know death would plant him right back on the train. Still no clue what'll happen when they die.

It's a bright looking world they emerge into. Ships flying in and out, overhead. Some small star-hoppers. At least one massive docking ship. There are people that look like humans, but to someone Ki sensitive they might obviously be not humans. Robots, cyborgs, species that very obviously aren't human and run the range of hideous to incredibly beautiful and bright.

And Yondu's leading them towards a Casino. "Y'all heard anything from the train or are we still riding it out?"

"I watch the perfect number of movies, considering!" Koumyou shoots right back to Devero, considering. Actual dimension-traveling adventurers, them.

Hasn't been quite that blantant before now, in some ways. They've seen some weird worlds thanks to the train, but this? This is a positive melting-pot of other worlds and species and technologies all in one place.

He trots along after Yondu, squeezing Devero's hand.

"Nothing from the train, no. I don't imagine we'll hear anything until it's time to do something or... I don't know, spiral off into the void with one another."

"Haven't heard anything either," Devero adds as he follows in their wake. His eyes are real wide as he looks around; it's a sign of how worn out he's feeling that he's not bouncing with excitement.

He does make a gesture with one hand, triggering his Interface to record, though. (What a tourist.)

"Is this a spaceport?" he asks breathlessly as Koumyou pulls him along by the hand.

"Yup. This is the one that was closest to Ego. Out of Xandarian or Kree space, but the Nova Corp still shows up here sometimes to throw some weight around as if it means much."

Yondu walks backwards for a moment, pointing out the massive vessel overhead. "It looked a li'l differ'nt, but that's how big the Eclector was." His beautiful, haggard old ship, gone forever. He missed the hell out of it.

Once they're in the casino he has to actually grab a waitress to get her to pay attention, that perception issue still causing trouble. "Hey, I need ya to bring a menu over to your restaurant area. Three tables."

But then he's back to paying attention. "People wouldn't leave us hangin'. They'll do somethin', so keep an ear on the SCA." Well, they'd leave him hanging, but not Dev.

insert joke about yondu's big old ship here

"That thing's huge!" Koumyou says just before they go inside, having started staring up at the ship for the rest of the walk over.

Devero is staring too, absolutely awestruck by the scale of the thing. "I didn't even realize that was a ship," he confesses. "I thought it was another level!"

Inside the more enclosed casino, he seems to shrink in on himself a little. The sheer number of people here presses in on him more obviously, and his hold on Koumyou's hand tightens. He sticks close to his fiance and friend as Yondu leads them further in.

It's only by the virtue of Koumyou and Devero being near invisible by the effects of whatever had happened (At least highly ignorable, anyway) that their not flirted with by gaudy yellow lovebots as they pass the brothel, some of them having their joints exposed by protective translucent materials or meshes. And it's obviously a really purposeful design, a part of their aesthetic rather than an unfortunate failing.

There are a few Ravagers around, hit or miss. Yondu's giving them a wide berth. They're not recognizable by their leathers like Yondu's- they're wearing something close to denim. It's that they have various versions of the Flames on their uniforms. Likely the ones from that very ship.

"I know some of it wasn't good, but this? Ah, this was the best." He laughs wryly, all teeth as he quickly walks over to an adorable pink Krylorian bartender at an outdoor establishment linked up to the inn, her hair up in buns, and hits the counter to get her attention (there's practically no polite way to do it at the moment). "Hey! Gonna get a coupla rinks for my buddies here! Y'all pick at your own peril."

OOC: Go ahead and take liberties with the menu!

"Sake!" Koumyou is a simple man, sometimes.

"Don't know if they're going to have that here," Devero tells Koumyou with an effort at his usual good humor. He elbows his fiancee in the side, then reaches his fingers up to snag a floating, intangible display that-- yep, that's a menu.

He hasn't connected his Interface to any local networks, so this must be some kind of holotech. He 'oohs' softly as he drags the glowing rectangle in between himself and Koumyou. His eyes skim the list of offerings, not that he recognizes much of what he's seeing. Brand names and alien styles of liquor are beyond him.

The menu does helpfully provide more generic descriptions of the drinks, though, so he selects something that promises to 'smash his brains out (with a kick of acidity and opulence)'. "Can I get one of these trans-system synapse busters, please?"

"We got shit that's real similar. That's a rice wine right there. Xandarian." He points up at the menu. "You want it warm?"

He thinks, strangely, of Mito and her warm sake right then, on that cold world in that warm hotel room. It makes him pause for a beat, old life blending with train life in his memories, and that's a strange thing to briefly confront though none of it gets spoken.

"Get me some of the Xandarian wine! And since I got the money for it? Some kruna fruit brandy" Not train bought, straight from the universe itself. Something he didn't really waste money on before. But might as well, one last genuine taste of a world that birthed him, that he'll most definitely never see again. It's something he'd been casually resigned to, but now kind of accepts.

Warm sake is pretty good, so something real similar probably is too. "Sure!"
