No Place Like Home: Outside

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: OUTSIDE

HOME SWEET HOME
You find yourself not on a wide station platform, in the clothes you last remember, holding what you were when you went through the glas door. There's no longer a train behind you, no sound of its whistle, with no other passengers around you in similar style of clothing to your own.

You're somewhere familiar, or just - the last place you remember being before your life became tethered to the Voidtrecker Express. A field, a city, a kingdom, or perhaps even a space station. You should be nowhere, yet you find yourself somewhere, despite all odds.

People - if there are people - don't at first notice you; but attract enough attention to yourself, and that will all change. Friends, family - are they near, a phonecall away? It's either everything you wanted or everything you imagined (for good or worse), and it could seem unbelievably real. But it is real - you're off the train, back somewhere you know.

Finally - the journey is over...

...If only.

You're moving away from where you arrived, for whatever reason. Who wouldn't? You may be far from home, have business elsewhere, or want to go sightseeing. It's time to return to - and live - your life, and that doesn't include sticking to one place.

But you'll find that when you reach a point, the world becomes...foggy. A fog that you hadn't seen in the distance before it appears, and when you walk through it, you'll find yourself in a place some have already found themselves in.

Because for some passengers, there was nowhere for them to return, and so the barriers lead only to fog, and then straight back onto the platform. The Voidtrecker Express may be stationed, or there may be a blanket of fog where it should be; sometimes, it can be caught trying to leave the station, only to come back a few minutes later. The doors are shut tight, and the windows are obscured, showing nothing inside.

Those who came from somewhere can go back, should they go through the turnstiles again. And if they want, they can take people along with them, too...

But sometimes, they go to a world no one knows. They go through the barriers into nothing, a black emptiness. Not space, for those that know space, and it doesn't seem to be the void either. But it is a void, devoid of anything at all. Just a darkness so complete they will not be able to see anything at all, they will only know their companion is there through touch and sound. How they are breathing, how they are living at all, is a mystery; one probably answered only by the SCA on their wrist.

Being there brings an unease deep down inside them. This place is not natural, not somewhere that they should exist in. Not a place that should exist at all. Luckily they are never there for more than a few moments before they return once more to the station, fog covering them like a safety blanket.

A DIFFERENT CORNER: LOCATIONS

In the first couple of days (whatever that means, when time doesn't match up between most places), the only way to move to another's tethered location is by them leading another there. But after that, individuals will show up in other locations when they reach close to the distance limit. Indeed as time goes on everything gets a lot less stable. They may know their five miles perfectly but still one step to another leads them back to the platform. Attempting to return to their world leads them somewhere else entirely.

And there's quite a few places to end up.

OOC NOTES
OOC post. Ask questions here.

LOCATION TOPLEVELS: Since it'll be easier for players to engage with settings presented by those offering them, when we see a toplevel for one of the above locations put up, we'll add it to the list! We've also included the OOC comments for settings to the side, so any questions can be left with the player, as well as extra details. Please always speak with the player first if you intend to do anything drastic to the setting!

A REMINDER: Time of log is Poi 22-25, but time within worlds can last up to a maximum of two weeks. Minimum is whatever you want it to be.

During Poi 22 and 23, characters will need to be led to a location to be able to access it. From Poi 24, people will show up in locations regardless of invitation.

The second half of the event will go up during 20th to 25th February (Poi 26-28). But as always, play around in here and do as you like!

If your character's setting isn't above, link us to it in the Questions post, along with your toplevel! We'll add it.

"I understand that you didn't want to get off, but that just means there might be something more to the situation, or that things didn't go to plan." Which... he wouldn't be all that surprised about if he was being honest.

But he also could understand why something like that is also very, very frustrating.

"Just makes me wonder if the people on board have noticed and if they are figuring out what to do for those who didn't want to leave."

He's putting his foot back down now. It still stings a little, but not enough to keep clutching it like that.

Besides, Inigo is too annoyed by this situation to just hop around like that.

"There's no way they haven't noticed." Sure, maybe no one would have noticed it if had just been the people who chose to leave who left the train. But.. "I told people that there was no way I was leaving. They wouldn't think I just changed my mind."

Especially Tidus, considering the conversation Inigo had with him. There's no doubt in his mind that Tidus is currently telling the train to pay attention from the inside - which is why Inigo is so determined to do it from the outside.

"We have to hope they are trying then." He did honestly believe that as he spoke. It was just a shame they had no way of knowing what was going on in there. All they could tell was what was going on from the outside.

"But the biggest issue is...how can we actually get it to notice from the outside."

Yugi wanted to help, but that question currently in stumping him considering what they just tried.

"Well, apparently kicking it isn't doing anything."

Because all Inigo is getting for his efforts here is a sore foot. And it doesn't even seem that the train noticed them, because it sure isn't opening the doors, nor is it giving absolutely any other sign that it actually knows they're out here.

"And I have absolutely no idea how else to grab its attention. If it doesn't even notice something hitting it, then what does it notice?" After all, Inigo sure would notice it if someone kicked him, thanks. Why can't the train do the same? How dumb is it?

"I mean... it's a train..." Would a metal train notice if someone hit it? Yugi didn't have a clue, but it was metal either way.

"But we know it's not a normal train." He added as he paused. "Do you think we coudls tick a note to it somehow? Do we have paper and a pen?" As dumb as it sounds a apart of him wonders if that could be a way.
flatteries: (nobody here is perfectly fine)

Inigo lets out an 'uh' sound as he's thinking, already starting to pat himself down. He knows he doesn't have anything in his pockets, but he's trying to think if he shoved those things into his Arms Band.. It's not exactly like he prepared to leave the train, so he isn't too sure.

But while he's trying to think of that, he can't help but ask:

"Do you think the train could just read a note?"

"We have no idea, but it's still an idea, right?" Yugi remembered that he had his backpack on him as he went to start looking though it. He thinks he had put in a notebook.

Once he pulled it out and held it up happily.

"Just what exactly do you want to say on it and we will see what happens."
flatteries: (everyone's scared someone knows)

[personal profile] flatteries 2022-03-20 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Inigo, in contrast, doesn't seem so happy at all right now.

Mostly because he figures this won't work. But on the other hand, he can't truly say he tried everything until he tries this too, so he goes along with it. Even though he's grumbling at the same time for sure.

"Fine, fine. Just give me that stuff and I'll write." Dumb train.

"Are you sure? I can write it if you want." He could understand that it might be annoying and most likely will not work

But if it was what he wanted Yugi wasn't going to stop him either as he held out the pen and notebook.

"Even if this does nothing at least we can say we really tried."
flatteries: (and the literature on how to lose)

"I'm sure." Especially since they're doing this now anyway, so Inigo then doesn't want to leave it all up to Yugi.

But after he takes the book from the other, he just ends up staring at the blank page for a moment. The ridiculousness of the situation aside, what does he even write? How does he even summarize their situation..?

After that moment of thought, he leans down, starting to write 'We're still out here.' on the paper before handing it back to Yugi.

"There, you can add to it. .. Oh, and I guess we should put our names on it too."

Just in case the train does actually somehow notice it, even though he doubts that will happen.

Yugi looks at what was written so far. Yugi himself was not great at writting in the sense of romantic things, but at least with soemthing as simple as this he can not make it look awkward and just plain not good.

So he adds a little bit underneath 'Please if you are able to let at least those that want to go back, back on, please and thank you.'

"At least with that you might not need to add names. Because those that want to get back on would become more obvious, but I will add your name at least if you want that?"
flatteries: (but i'll hum along)

[personal profile] flatteries 2022-03-28 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Inigo nods.

After all, at least then he will be able to claim that he tried this, even with his name on it. He's pretty sure that he's going to be pissed at the train regardless once all of this is over, but he'd like to be pissed at the train with actual reason.

"Sure, go right ahead."

Yugi nodded making sure his name was added before glancing up at the train again. It seemed like it had just tried to leave again so that gave him enough time to be able to stick it onto the train.

He wasn't sure what would happen if anything actually did, but hey it was still trying at least.

Soon the train tried again as Yugi stood there. It was hard to tell if the train even noticed.

"That's all we can do for now it seems."
flatteries: (away from all the fears and)

[personal profile] flatteries 2022-04-01 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
.. yeah, it sure seems like the train doesn't notice, huh.

And it's not even like Inigo expected any different from this. If the train seemed to ignore all the kicking and hitting, then of course it isn't going to notice a little note. But he wanted to at least try, had maybe the faintest hope..

But now it's all gone. Which means Inigo sighs, pulling a hand through his hair.

"What are you going to do then?"

She glances back at the turnsiles.

"Are you going to go back to your world?"

"I mean I wanted to go back to do something, so I will do. But I worry about those who weren't here by choice." Though really Yugi was convinced into doing this so it wasn't exactly 100% his own choice and if he could he would probably go back on the trin after he did what he needed to.

But that was just him anyway.

"If there is a way found, I'd be happy to try and help though."
flatteries: (but i'll hum along)

[personal profile] flatteries 2022-04-09 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Worried about the exact category of people Inigo belongs to, huh. It makes sense, since Yugi seems nice enough, but.. on the other hand, Inigo is pretty aware there isn't much that seems to be able to get done right now.

"I'll stay here and try to figure something out."

He doesn't know how, but it's not like he wants to go home either, so this seems like the safest option for now..

"You can just go home and come check back in here after a while. I'll let you know by then if we're finding some solution."

[personal profile] sizedoesntmatter 2022-04-13 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Will you be okay here?" Yugi asked just in case. He figured hey would be continuing to find a way back onto the train since he understood by this point that was what he wanted.

But Yugi himself had things he needed to do back home, but now at least made plans to head back as soon as he was able to.
flatteries: (i turn my head to the crowd)

"Yeah."

There seems to be very little hesitation in Inigo's answer. He just nods, glancing at the train rather than at the other.

"Don't worry about me. I'm going to be fine." Well, maybe not fine. More likely frustrated, when it comes to being here on the platform and feeling unsure what to even do about their current situation.

But Inigo wouldn't be Inigo if he didn't claim to be fine all the same. As if it might become reality if he just says it often enough.
