Day 11 Catfish - everybody else!

Evacuation

Once Rath and Voidtrecker volunteers go off to Blue Mountain the rest of the scientists get ready for the final evacuation off planet.

Earthquakes are regular enough now that it seems strange when the earth is not shaking. It makes it difficult to pack the last of the equipment, get the final lindusi into their containers and start boarding the shuttles.

They need help everywhere, people to ride with the lindusi, others to keep the evacuees calm. Others to carry equipment and load shuttles. People to keep children occupied and out of the way. Slowly but surely the shuttles are loaded and the journey begins.

Space Station

There are scientists and guards waiting at the space station to help unload, lindusi need unloading and taken to containing pens. People need reunited with those that evacuated before them and registered, in an attempt to make sure everyone is accounted for.

The Voidtreckers may do what they like once the work is done, a time to relax after a job well done. Or to fret about those who are still on the planet.

In the control room there is an attempt to keep radio contact with the group on the ground, but as the planet destabilises more it gets more difficult. Signs show that the planet has mere hours before it can not sustain human life anymore.

But the scientists seem to have some faith that these void warriors are up for the job.

"Not that common in later generations. Most have up to three children, unless I wasn't paying close enough attention." But Elrond had had three children, and that's what matters most. So.

He nods thoughtfully.

"Japan's like that too. These days, most people have one or two... or even none. But we used to have bigger families. Before birth control and all that."

...Wait. What?

That last bit has the elf blinking over at him in clear confusion. And maybe a bit repulsed, but he's trying to keep that toned down.

"What is the...purpose of controlling the size of family?"

"Money." He shrugs. "And space. Time. All things we have much, much less of, these days, or so it feels like. It's expensive to raise a kid right in Japan, even with all the help the government provides. And houses aren't as big as the old days, and people are busy... lots of reasons."

"Hm...It sounds as though there are too many people all in one place."

"That's pretty much true." He nods. "Especially in the big cities. It's not so bad out in the country, but in the cities? If you wanna buy even a one-room apartment it's gonna cost. And we're not as bad as Hong Kong or America yet."
