Event: Abort! Part One

Until now there has been one mission in every month. The practice in Apple and since then one for each month. So for those that have been on the train for a while they will be extremely surprised when on the twenty fifth day of the month of Egret their SCA’s glow gold and a hologram appears. Another mission.

Strange or not preparations need to be made, the voidtreckers are needed, strange timing or not.

Preperations

As promised the dressing room is open once again and there is a collection of leggings, shirts and tunics. All are in bold, differing shades of team colours and are made of sturdy material. There are a couple of cloaks, like those they wore in the goblin world they look medieval in style but will keep rain off as well as a modern raincoat.

As usual they have about an hour of preparation time, to gather supplies, get changed and help those who need more help disguising themselves to do so.

Arrival

”We are now approaching world#27462947582. Warning: Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four,” Hopefully even those who are new know to hold on or sit down by now. ”Three, two, one.” A jolt and a lurch and the void from outside the windows disappears to show green grass and a blue sky.

The Voidtrecker Express has landed in a small dip between two hills. Tall enough to mostly hide it and once everyone who wishes to disembarks it vanishes.

The voidtreckers, on climbing the hill, will find they are inside the city walls, just. Here it is mostly farmland still but as they move towards the centre there are more houses and things become more crowded and bustling. The city is big enough that an influx of strangers doesn’t turn many heads.

Their SCA has a map, red team’s has a marker for the northern gate, purple’s show the position of guard posts. Orange and Blue’s shows the main gates that lead out into the kingdom beyond.

Red Team

Getting to the northern gate doesn’t take all that much time and they are let out without much fuss, though fair warnings about the monsters out there. It is clear that though this city is nominally guarded and walled, it has been a long time since there has been war here and people can come and go as they wish.

The desert is, much as can be expected. It is more a scrub land rather than rolling dunes of sand but the land is cracked and dry. They have to move at least an hour away from the city before they come across any monsters at all.

When they do they are strange almost-boar looking creatures. They are vicious and will attack on sight, charging with huge tusks and teeth that are far too sharp to belong to a natural creature. They are clearly intelligent, even if they don’t seem to have language. But they never come across more than five at once and there doesn’t seem to be any movement of them towards the city.

Purple Team

The guard posts are only have a few guards there at any one time. Though questioning any of them the voidtreckers will learn that there are other guards in the city, ready to come to the defence of the walls if the alarm is ever sounded. Those on the walls are there to keep watch.

It might take a little bit of persuading but there isn’t a huge problem with purple team being allowed up onto the walls. As long as they don’t seem to be causing or bringing trouble.

The surrounding countryside is clear. To the north is the desert but to the east, west and south there are rolling hills of green. The kingdom that this city is part of.

For them it is a few hours of tedium and anticipation. Watching the landscape, waiting for a threat. The other soldiers are curious enough that they could be coaxed into conversation or a game of dice.

Blue Team and Orange Team

It is very difficult to convince a city full of people who have not known danger in a long time that they have to pack up and leave.

There are difficult shop keepers, confused farmers, worried parents.

Some are able to be ready quickly and so can follow the Blue team out of the southern gates. It might take more than one group, with a few blue team going with each one. The kingdom isn’t particularly dangerous but who knows when that may change. Keeping everyone together and moving will be the challenge here.

For Orange team there are plenty of logistical problems to get stuck into. Animals need moving, people need help packing or wrangling small children. Older people need help finding carts to ride.

Not to mention the very stubborn ones who will take a lot of persuading. Those who were on the goblin world have had practice in this already of course, and hopefully have tips to share.

Dressing
Khary wasn't thrilled how he kept losing the new clothing items he received, but the selection this time had him in good humor. Of course most people on the train have only ever seen him in good humor. He didn't anger easily and so far few have seen his temper. In the waking, Curufin. In the dreaming... Romeo.

But in the here and now, he was picking up an article of clothing here and there, smiling at it with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, but not picking anything for himself just yet...

Blue team
Herding would be so much easier with Scelties. It was what the little bossy dogs were bred for, really. But he'd spent enough time with them o have picked up a few tricks, and added some of his own. Like taking up the rear. Like an invisible shield out behind him that moved with him, curved into a gentle scoop sopping anyone who tried o double back in his group.

As for him, himself. Anyone who doesn't know him or can't track magic would have little way to tell the shield was his. If they could even tell there was one. Certainly he didn't look like he was doing any sort of magic, let alone something so powerful. He had his hands in his pockets and seemed to almost be strolling along, rather enjoying the odd feeling of a cape flapping at his heels....

Preparations
Eva is terrified, even if she doesn't show it through the grim, no-nonsense set of her jaw and the hardness in brown eyes. There's a steady, unshakeable swiftness to her actions as she dresses, one born not only of experience, but of life in her world. Tunics, leggings, boots, cloak and all but the cloak are shades of orange. The cloak is greenish with faint vines and leaf motifs. Pokebelt and pokeball. Potions from the warzone in her bag.

Once she's done, she's checking in on everyone, starting with her team of course. "All set? Got everything you need? Say what you need to get the mission done. If you must, say you're a seer, oracle-"

Her voice is shakily, but she's trying, and in between people, she can be heard muttering what sounds like a prayer.

The City
a/ People

"Up you go-" Eva says as she lifts yet another child up onto a cart as parents clamber on, friendly smile firmly on her face. At least this time it wasn't too hard to convince them to evacuate, and she can count at least a few families on this one. "You'll be safe, you'll see."

"Thank you, young seer," One of the adults says, and Eva smiles. She's no seer, but to get people moving-

"Please, go. The next groups leaving soon."

It's only once they're gone does the mask crack, just for a moment, into honest worry as she turns to find the next group of people - to look for teammates who look like they need help.

But then it's gone, replaced with the unshakeable confidence of a Champion and someone who grew up in a world where evacuation on short notice happens.

"Need a hand?"

b/ Animals

Princess is, by and large, no animalherder. But, that is exactly what he's doing as he shepherds several sheep towards a larger flock, Eva's whistles helping to direct the pink pokemon as he races about on all fours, only breaking off and returning to Eva's side when the sheep join up with the flock.

She watches as the farmers then drive the animals down towards one of the departing groups.

"Thanks," she muttered to the pokemon, even as she's already moving away, stride swift, purposeful, eyes alert and keen; she isn't just Eva Iden'no right now. She's an Indigo Champion, a Professional Trainer- someone who very being understands the urgency and swiftness required.

Who's retreated solely into the role of get people out of harm's way as swiftly as possible.

There's no time to stop, to think. Keep moving, do the mission. Check-in on other Voidtreckers and make sure they're OK-

"Gods what I'd give for teleporters--"

Najaran - OTA

[personal profile] najaran 2020-04-18 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Dressing
Najaran had been so sad when the clothes she took last time vanished. But she loved what she was finding now. Though someone might want to step in since everything she was picking was purple or blue. She was Orange, but happily choosing other colors for the mission. She found a really neat long purple cloak that she paired with a bright blue oddly shaped top. Blue skintight shorts under a purple skirt that seemed made of panels that didn't want to lay flat. A spiky belt that was going to take some getting used to, but at least it was a belt. But when she found a long metal staff that could be used as a walking stick her joy faded and she sat down, the clothes she picked on her lap, as she held the staff, unaware that a tear was rolling down her face as she studied it.

Orange
She reasoned out that she was using her cards to protect people, so it was fine, just so long as she didn't engage the enemy, since they weren't Cepters. So she had... a number of odd... creatures... out helping. A large suit of armor was carrying a few big bundles of supplies as he walked, careful not to step on anyone. A still larger creature of some sort had the community's largest cart hooked to it, and had a person riding on either shoulder. In each hand it carried a smaller loaded cart. A small creature and what could only be a gremlin had helped with packing and were now riding on the armor's shoulders.

Najaran herself was flying on the back of some odd alien dinosaur looking thing, helping to keep an eye on her group to make sure they were meeting up with team blue where they were supposed to. That done she was planning to go and help the next group make the check point.

For those who met her so far, they'd mostly have seen her as a sweet scared scrap of a thing who didn't know north from south. But now she looked serious and focused and on top of things - almost literally given her flying perch - except that she kept eyeing food longingly as it was packed.

Preperation
He had worn many a style of clothing in his past, depending on what world he had ended up on. But this one was somewhat new, but not something he would be embarrassed by wearing. However, once he was dressed and looked at himself, he noticed a very obvious issue that he expected. Wouldn't the people they were seeing going to think his arm was odd or consider him ma witch or something.

A small frown as he looked at his left hand.

"I wonder, will the people we go to see freak out about things like my left arm?" To be fair, he used to being considered a freak when he was young, after all. Plus this was a good way of figuring out how this place worked too, right?

The Wall
Allen found himself sighing slightly. He had decided to watch from the wall just in case. It was sort of like patroling he did when he worked as a police officer or even when he was deputy guardian in the last world and the world before that. The only difference was at least with the first world with pirates there was always something going on that he would have to deal with in various ways.

Here. It just seemed rather peaceful. He soon moved to sit down, all the while looking out. He seemed somewhat bored just watching, looking at the view.

Preparations

She had been on the train since the very first day and this slight change from the routine they knew- where they were given a mission once a months, was strange. But she knew from her own world, things like missions did not always work to the timings you wanted them to. Events happened too fast or too slow and flexibility was required.

So she prepared the way she usually did. Gathering supplies, reading through the mission in her den in the luggage carriage. She moved to the dressing room not long after and began hunting through the tunics and leggings to find ones in her own size.

The clothes gave her some hope, they were very similar to clothes from her own world, it means she might be at least able to understand the world they were travelling to.

She waved at anyone nearby. "Do you be thinking it do be being because we do be doing well that we do be having more missions now?"

Arrival

She doesn't bother finding a seat for landing, she just sits on the floor near the doors. She is used enough to going in and out of the void now that it isn't worrying anymore. Once they landed she scrambled to her feet.

She jumped out of the train and looked around. Grass, pleasant enough weather. No immediate monsters. No weird lizards pointing guns at them. She checked her SCA and saw the red dot that showed where she was to go.

She looked around, prepared to wait for the others to get going.

Red Mission

She had mostly let the others take charge of them getting out of the city. She had stood close and observed. The city was a strange one, relaxed even though it bordered a place of monsters. Confident in it's own ability to keep itself safe.

She was glad she was fighting monsters rather than trying to persuade stupid people to leave. In a city like this, she couldn't imagine people would want to evacuate. It would be like evacuating somewhere like Gauig. Even though this city was a lot smaller.

The heat of the desert was welcome. After so many missions in stupid rain and stupid cold it was nice to be somewhere with a normal temperature. She knew heat in the wilderness like this could be dangerous so she was sensible, but there was definitely more of a spring to her step as she walked, eyes keeping watch, dagger in hand.

Fighting

She had never fought monsters like this before. She doesn't even know what they are but they are big and stupid and she can already tell her dagger isn't going to do much on it's own.

But she has gotten used to working in a team so she let's the bigger fighters be a distraction as she tries to get around the monsters, looking for a weak point.

Dressing Room Prep

[ Though she'd been in pretty high spirits when she'd heard they were allowed to raid the dressing room, when Bryn actually sees the assortment on over, she makes what I can only describe as a stinkface. ]

Is this really all we have to choose from? It's not a very impressive selection. [ She's got her nose all wrinkled up, too. This might be the most exasperated anyone on the train has seen her look so far. ] Are we really expected to go without armor?

Red Team

[ Snobbery isn't enough to keep her from getting changed though, apparently, since Bryn turns up all dressed up once Team Red are fixing to head out. Despite her earlier grouching, she's got a big sunny smile and she's armed with a spear that she appears to have stolen definitely borrowed with permission from one of the guards. ]

Well then! Since the weather's so fine, this should be a wonderful hunt!

[ Her enthusiasm is all well and good but – well, she doesn't even go here, does she? She's not even wearing any Team Orange colours. So much for all the teamwork she was allegedly so excited about. ]

Out Huntin'

[ Bryn seems to take relatively well to the heat out in the desert – partially because of how she's dressed for it, but mostly thanks to her own innate affinity for fire. Which in practice only means that she looks cool as a cucumber and infuriatingly unruffled while everyone else is sweating their asses off. Thanks, Bryn.

At the very least, she's putting her composure to good use and setting on the boars with the same kind of enthusiasm that she's been bringing to everything else, though it's a little less endearing when the thing she's so enthusiastic about is killing huge monstrous animals. Don't worry about it.

She's pretty proficient with the spear she's using, but she's also using her bare fists and her body weight a bit more than you'd expect of a girl as small as Bryn. For those of you who might've heard her chattering about her strength, this might be expected, but for those of you who aren't, it might be kind of shocking to see her flip a boar onto its back at one point before she goes at it with her spear.

During a break in all the fighting, you might find her inspecting one of the fallen boars, her eyes alight with interest. She's elevating a hoof, stretching out limbs to watch how the muscles move and moving her hands along the carcass to feel lines of meat and fat. And then she looks up, looking like the proverbial kid in a candystore and declares: ]

Is there anyone who'd be able to butcher one of these creatures? Just imagine how much meat we'd be able to take back to the train!

[ the food motivation really jumped out, huh ]

Preparation/Decision

While Webmind will visit the Dressing Car and have a look at the offerings, he looks rather dubious at the prospect of fitting in on this world.

He's still having trouble fitting this whole thing into his worldview. And having to lie about where they're from, and potentially everything else about themselves, to protect these people...

Well, he's doubting he's suited for the job.

Remaining on the Train

An empty train is an eerie thing - and given his ticket only lets him into his own cabin, it's not as if he can explore everywhere while people are out!

But he keeps up his work on fiddling with the new programming language, as well as further exploring the shop options, all the while wondering if the fog outside is better than the void.

But then he takes another look at the selection with a frown. No bag or backpack options this time. That was going to be a challenge.

Conan heads straight for the Northern Gate, and takes a seat there as he waits for everyone else to show. As he waits, he occupies himself with checking over his skateboard.

Once the group starts moving, Conan keeps up by traveling on his skateboard. He keeps a wary eye on their surroundings as they move.

No. No no no no no no no no.

He isn’t ready for this. It’s too soon. He’s only been back from the dead for...what? Ten days? He can still feel the laser tearing through his body, killing him. He’s had nightmares about it every time he closes his eyes, and he’s quite certain that those nightmares are going to continue for the foreseeable future. He can’t go back yet. He’s not ready. He can’t even protect himself anymore.

Those who know Joscelin well may find him hiding in a dark corner of the dressing carriage, still in his regular clothes. He’s curled into a ball, rocking back and forth as the panic threatens to overwhelm him.

Blue Team (OTA)

Somehow, for reasons still a mystery to him, Joss ultimately decided to go on the mission. Someone needs to look after Romeo, even if he can’t protect his friend like he used to. And it’s just evacuating people. He’s done that before—rather successfully on the mission with the dying planet, he thinks.

So, down by the gates, one may find a small boy in a brilliantly purple tunic and cloak helping to convince people to flee the city. He’s so pale he almost looks like a vampire again, his fists are clenched so tight his fingernails are cutting into his palms, and he can’t seem to stop shaking, but he’s here.

More than once, the first warning of danger was her fusion driver lifting to unload a veritable fountain of particles off into the distance. "Prepare yourselves! Enemies approaching!"

Lord Gyousou had still not returned. Taiki had taken to walking through the luggage carriage every day, sometimes twice, as if he might just come across him in a suitcase.

Silly. He knew he wasn't there. He couldn't feel the ouki. It didn't stop him hoping.

He hasn't been on the train very long so the second mission doesn't come as a surprise to him. He doesn't want to do another mission. He doesn't want to go somewhere where people will be expected to fight, kill and die.

He definitely doesn't want to go anywhere without Gyousou.

But he also doesn't want to stay behind. He doesn't want to be a burden on those on the train and he doesn't want to leave people on these worlds in danger.

He is sat near a pile of clothes, technically looking for one to fit but not able to muster must enthusiasm for the task.

Arrival

He knew he was not going to go with the red team. He would just be a burden and a problem and he could not bare to see them fight or kill, even monsters. He had read the entire briefing though and helping get people to safety was something he could try and achieve.

So he looked around for any Blue or Orange team members, going off on his own did not seem like a smart thing to do.

Prep

At least they can wear team colors - bright enough to see from far away, to know who is filling which role. Not that she expects to see much of red, hopefully. Her job shouldn't involve a lot of weaponry either. So she just had to get dressed, and keep an eye out for anyone who looked like they might need a hand. "I wonder if this might be the new pace..."

Blue Team

"No, we do not know the exact nature of the danger, and no we can not give you the exact timing. That is not how reading the lines of the future works." Is she going to have to have this argument every five minutes? "That is why we are taking such measures," she urged whoever she was talking to - a farmer, a shopkeep, anyone.

If they were being misinformed she was going to go find someone to kick. Right in the shins.

"You must believe us. Believe me." Said the totally trustworthy, overly serious child. Dammit.

Preparations:

Duo had been warned about missions, but was rather surprised when people seemed to have been panicked by the appearance of one. Apparently it was a strange occurrence? Being new, Duo didn't have experience to go on. At least, on the Voidtrecker.

Missions though? Those he knew.

He entered the dressing room without his trademark grin, a calm, serious expression on his face as he went immediately to clothes that were as muted as he could find. There were a lot of bright colours and he knew what he was supposed to do, but he'd taken a few minutes before coming to the dressing room to formulate his own mission.

Part of him wished he could grab one of the orange tunics, that would have blended in so much easier than the purple he knew he would have to wear. But he found some sand coloured pants to go under the purple and a cloak with a hood in a darker brown. If he pulled it in close it would cover the purple and that was just what he needed.

A small smile curved his lips then as he strapped a belt around his waist. He was ready.

Arrival:

Once they were dropped off, Duo checked the map and started walking.

He knew what he was meant to be doing. He was Purple Team. He was supposed to be going to a wall and protect it. That wasn't his style.

He had thought about going off with Red Team, and he figured he probably would. But before he did anything like that, he wanted to be armed.

Duo pulled his hood up over his head, his braid was trapped against his back and protected, and he took off toward the city at a run.

Purple/Red Team (Doing his own thing):

A - The people hadn't noticed much of anything until his fellow Inmates had started rounding them up and causing chaos. And chaos was just what he needed.

He was able to slip in and out of places with relative ease. And those places were houses and guard towers. In and out like a shadow. A few guards he 'accidentally' bumped into to free them of the burden of weaponry. Years of living on the streets and pickpocketing was coming in handy and Duo was in his element.

Under his cloak he was armed. True, it was swords and daggers when he wished for a nice gun, but he was sure he could use them.

Though his aim was to get them to the others and ensure people were armed and ready for whatever happened.

-----

B - Now he was armed to the teeth, Duo had managed to get himself out of the city to join Red Team.

This... wasn't the kind of fighting he was used to. This was glorified hunting. The creatures they were after looked like giant boars with wicked looking tusks.

Luckily he was quite nimble. And armed with a dagger in each hand, he was more than a match for them.

Preparations

She'd made certain to have both her staff and her white mage job stone on her--the stone itself is carefully tucked into a pouch inside the armor she's chosen. It doesn't look like much more than a smart medieval-style coat in a gloomy sort of purple, with black pants and boots. Instead of a cloak, she's chosen a broad-brimmed stylish hat that distracts from her horns, with a wild feather in scarlet-trimmed white, though the hat itself is also black--though it bears a purple band. Failnaught, her bow that doubles as a harp, is slung over her shoulder, and she's checking...most everything else upon her out, so she can be sure she's truly ready.

Purple: All in all, we're just another brick in the wall...

Not the type to cause trouble at all, Sarai does do a bit of actual harping and singing to pass the time. Still, her gaze often trails from her post to scan the horizon. She's been used to guard duty of sorts even since she was a wee youngling, watching either the small sheep herd the tribe had, or the far-more-important nets and fishing lines. She and her sister had often been posted to watch the horizon on the Steppes, too.

At least she's good at waiting, and more than willing to converse, be it with the guards, or with anyone else who might approach her.

Arrival:

He'd had every intention of going off and doing, or trying to do, what the mission asked them to do. But once they were dropped off, once Gladio stepped out of the train. He stood still. Green and blue... He could have wept.

Without quite realising he was doing it, he'd moved away from the others, moving up the hill rather than down it. He wanted to get to the top. He wanted to get closer to the sky.

Once he reached the summit, he sat down. Legs stretched out, hands behind him in the soft, cool grass, and he looked up at the clouds above. A warm breeze ruffled his hair and clothes. It was... exactly what he needed.

He should have asked Prompto to take pictures for him... It was beautiful.

Kaiba's dressed like a peasant and he's not at all happy about it. He's trying to control his temper better this time. Key word: trying. This doesn't look right, no matter how many times he smooths the tunic over, so he'll just brace for the worst, mouth in a thin line.

cart/orange

Getting the people to move is the hardest part, as it turns out. He'sbeen reassigned to background duty: building makeshift carts out of any wheels and planks he can nail together.

And then, just to try something a little different...he paints a little dragon at about a child's eye height on the back of the cart. When he finds a little one, he tries smiling.

"Come on. Be unbreakable, like the dragon."

Town: Getting put into another mission wasn't Ignis' idea of a good time, especially right now. However, as Prompto said, 'Ignis all business' so that was the side he presented to everyone. He's already nominated both Raven and Bucky as Blue Team co-leads, after taking some advice he'd gotten to lighten his load and to put something down.

Dressed as he was, it felt odd to be out here. With his verbal skills he was able to talk quite a few townspeople into learning that they were in danger. The shopkeepers and farmers were the ones that were presenting the challenges. Ignis could certainly sympathize with those wanting to be able to put food on the table, look after their livelihood and care of their customers.

There was a little boy with serious brown eyes who came up to the advisor and tugged on his sleeve. "Are we going to be safe mister?" Looking at whoever was near to him, there was a nod and a reassuring tone as he knelt down in front of the child. "Of course you are, we'll keep you quite safe."

Closed to Madoka - Walking along the beach wasn't something he had been able to do since Galdin Quay and Altissia. But Madoka stopped to gather some shells for a necklace and Ignis patiently stood nearby. He would keep an eye on her, and he looked out at the water staring even as heated words echoed through his mind. 'The red team goes on the dangerous missions. We're the ones with nothing left to lose. We're the ones who are being asked to go where the fire is the hottest and if you give a damn about me you won't ever mention taking you or our girl anywhere near there.'

He sighed and took a shaky breath, turning his head away from his daughter for a moment with clenched fists and a clenched jaw at the remembered painful words that had been spoken to him. And that's when he noticed a woman standing there. How she'd gotten there without him hearing her or where she'd come from, he had no idea. She had long flowing pale blonde hair and bluish green eyes. There was a pearl necklace around her neck with a flower like symbol on the pendant and sea foam roses were worn on either side of her head with golden stems and leaves.

For a moment the advisor just stared at her, dumbstruck. Mentally he berated himself since it was impolite to stare just as he'd admonished his boys about that very same thing at times. But she had the most serene direct expression Ignis had ever seen and suddenly it felt as if something was pressed into his hand. She then said..something in a foreign language and the next thing he knew, he blinked to the sound of a splash. Emerald eyes then turned towards the sound and watched as a pink fishtail disappeared into the water.

He turned at the sound of Madoka's voice and he clutched the gift in his hand to make sure what he just saw was real. As his daughter went on, the strategist opened his gloved hand and saw a pink scallop shell.

"You have got to be kidding me," he said, holding up a pair of leggings while eyeing a tunic hanging up. "This is ridiculous." And they were expected to wear these things? He'd worn a lot of weird things before, especially on stage, but nothing like this.

He knew blending in was important, or something like that, but this was...almost embarrassing. Or maybe he was the only one who felt really awkward about this, who knew.

b. Orange Team

He was trying his best to help out, he really was. But he still had a woman threatening him with a packed bag while he awkwardly carried one of her children upside-down. It wasn't his fault the kid had squirmed around enough to be dangling at his side. It didn't help that Dyme had never held a kid before. The little boy, at least, thought the whole ordeal was great fun, and kept giggling.

"Ma'am, if you hit me with that, I will drop your kid." It wasn't a threat; he just knew if he got hit over the head by an angry woman, then he was going to get disoriented and might drop the still squirming kid.

Luckily, he was saved when the woman's husband wrangled the boy from him and got him loaded into their cart. "Thank you," he said to the man, then returned his attention to the woman, holding out a hand. "Here, let me help you with that, ma'am."

Reluctantly, she handed the bag over to Dyme, who got it stowed away neatly in their cart. It had taken a lot of arguing to get this far, but he was relieved that he'd managed to convince at least one family that they needed to go.

"Alright, you're all set to go," he said.

"Thank you, young man," the husband said, helping his wife into the cart before they set off.

Watching them go, Dyme breathed a sigh of relief. "I hope no one else threatens to hit me with anything today," he said as soon as the family was out of earshot.

Preparation

In the Dressing Car, Curufin pulls on the medieval clothes, tunic, leggings, cloak -- in Team Orange color.

"Aulë's hammer!" he swears, laughing a little. He doesn't often swear by the names or the symbolic implements of his gods, but the familiar hue of his costume provokes him. "I get to wear clothes from my time, but these people we're supposed to rescue are going to think I'm a festival clown or an All-Hallows' pumpkin!"

Arrival

Once in the city, he looks around to get the lay of the land. It seems this city is physically organized to protect the farmers, and thereby everybody's food source. The city walls encircle the farmlands, and thus the agriculturalists don't lose their lands if the city is besieged.

He glances down at his SCA and sees the city map, with the south gates distinctly marked. "All right, let's get this show on the road," he remarks, mindful that this is an ancient show business saying. He had heard it in his own world. If he was going to look like a comic actor in an itinerant theatre company, he might as act and speak the part!

"Anybody want to divide up the tasks? Who takes the goats, who takes the sheep, who takes the cows, and who takes the bunny rabbits?" Bright grin.

Orange Team

Sigh.

Yes, he knows how to convince people to leave their homes, farms, and shops, and join a refugees' caravan. He's done it before, both in that previous mission to the goblin world and long before that, in his own world in the Fourth battle of Beleriand, when he had to take his people and flee his own territory. But truthfully, he'd rather be fighting monsters. He'd almost always rather be fighting. Still, he tries not to let this show, as he's now a co-leader of his team and feels obligated to be an example of what he believes -- that the community is worth making sacrifices for.

He's currently talking to a group of kids. "No, you shouldn't run away and hide in the market until everybody's gone. You know about the desert monsters, don't you? Well, we've been told that they're planning to attack the city, and if you stay, even in hiding, you'll be in danger."

Some of the girls and boys lift the sticks they're carrying and indicate that they, too, are prepared to fight.

Curufin shakes his head. "A stick won't be enough. You'd need a sword and weapons training, at the very least. There's not time for that now. Go back into your houses and tell your parents to come out so I can talk to them."

One of the kids stares at Curufin's orange clothing and snickers. "Are you a circus clown?"

"No, I'm not," answers Curufin, patiently. "My overlord expects the soldiers of my company to wear orange uniforms, and so I must." But he grins at the kid. He pulls his sword out of its sheath and makes a few showy passes in the air, demonstrating that he knows what he's doing.

The kids smile, laugh, and clap.

"Oh, hell, just go tell your parents there's a clown outside, and he wants to talk to them about how to survive the rest of today and tomorrow. Go on, scoot!"

The kids titter, slap each other's shoulders, and run back to deliver the message.

a. Arrival

It was good to get off the train, even if he hadn't been there for very long yet. The scenery was quite lovely, really, and in the distance he could make out the ocean. Part of him longed for the water, but it wasn't what they were there for. He understood that they were there for a reason, and maybe at a different point in time he wouldn't have cared and would have ditched everyone to do what he wanted, but right now he actually wanted to help people. Even if he had to dress a little oddly to do it.

"Have you ever seen a place like this before?" he asked whoever was closest.

b. Orange Team

He was a little out of practice when it came to interacting with people, but luckily there were plenty of other things for him to do, like helping herd animals after the people with their carts.

Currently, there was a group of sheep following along behind him while he carried a tiny lamb in his arms, soft as a cloud and bleating gently now and then. It was pretty calm about being carried, and Leviathan spoke to it quietly as he went, checking over his shoulder now and then to make sure none of the sheep had wandered off.

Entering the dressing carriage, Trowa chose the darkest shades he could get his hands on. The clothing was a bit odd, but nothing stranger than he'd worn as a clown. Once he'd gotten dressed, he looked at his SCA to check the mission parameters again.

The Wall
Reaching the closest guard tower, Trowa was quick to scale it to the top. Seeing the scant number of guards at the top, he raised an eyebrow and looked around. "Where's the armory?"

Glorfindel - OTA

[personal profile] laurefindil 2020-04-19 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Preparations

Everyone seemed surprised by this event, though the ones who had been here longer said this was a normal occurrance. Glorfindel followed the crowd to the dressing room and found himself with a lovely array of clothes that actually looked like what he was used to. He would have preferred armor, true, but the tunics and leggings worked. Based on the briefing material, he went for what he would normally where if he were going to be trying to impress new recruits.

After dressing in the purple jewel tones and grabbing a cloak, he pulled out the items that had been in his rucksack that he'd brought from home and started putting his hair into battle braids and fastening them securely with the gold and jewels he wore when going into a fight when he wasn't trying to sneak around.

Arrival

This was a new thing for him, but he braced as the train jolted to a stop and the view from the windows changed to green grass and blue sky. He followed others off the train and to the top of the hill to orient himself. The view and the map on their wrist amulets gave him strong feelings of deja vu, and he wondered again if the dream of fire and falling was a portent rather than a memory. The walled city reminded him strongly of Gondolin before the fall.

Purple Team

Glorfindel walked through the town to the guard post nearest the gate and greeted the guards there. He didn't bother to ask if he could join them or try to persuade them. He asked for the on duty commander, tapping his foot as someone went to get them. As he did so, he asked someone to bring him a decent sword as his last broke on the way here, on one of those thrice-blessed monsters.

When the guard commander arrived and demanded to know what was going on, Glorfindel had rejected two of the offers and had accepted the third, and was now weighing his bow options. "Oh, there you are. We were sent by the Empress to bolster your walls, Someone," and he rolled his eyes a bit at this, "got a premonition that you would need backup. I was the lucky soul to be 'hand-picked' for the mission. I dragged along my personal guard. You can tell them, they're the ones in purple," he told the commander. The poor man never really stood a chance and was shortly showing Glorfindel around to look at the posts.

May Parker - OTA

May looked down at her outfit for this mission and shrugged. It could have been worse. Right?

Making her way towards the village, she went over what she needed to do. Obviously it would be harder to convince people that there was a danger approaching them, especially because there hasn't been anything for quite some time. Would people be willing to follow their animals if she took them? People would chase after their pets at home so would it be the same here? That was a thought that she would contemplate. She supposed she would see how things went with the people to begin with.

[ Prep ]

Those are some very bright colors they're being asked to wear. Not that the Doctor really cares but he'd much rather have his familiar waistcoat and bowtie but he'll live. He goes for a muted red for his tunic but reading over the mission descriptions has him thinking he'd be far best suited to the orange team for this. He secures the psychic paper for easy access as he's sure he's going to need it and then after secures this screw driver.

He glances around for the friend's he made to see how they're holding up. Specifically, those he feels responsible for.

[ Arrival/Orange ]

He's got this in the bag. Hopefully, he is aware that things do tend to go a bit awry at times but for the moment, he's confident he'll be able to convince the people in the village to follow his instruction. He seeks out the head guard and approaches with his usual gawky swagger before pulling out the psychic paper and showing it to the man.

"Right so, as you can see-very urgent we start evacuating the town immediately." He says in a more business like manner. "My team-erm-Teams here are here to help with the evacuation process to make things go as quickly and smoothly as possible. So I'm going to need to know, what are your emergency protocols?"
