A City Falls: Start

Preparation

Just after light on the seventh day of the month of Bassoon everyone’s SCA glows with the colour of the void before showing a message. A briefing for the mission to come.

Anyone who goes to investigate the dressing carriage will find all the cupboards and drawers open. They may need to battle through spider webs but soon will find an array of clothes. Trousers, skirts, dresses, shirts, robes, cloaks. Everything they will need and plenty of choice. All the clothes have accents of team colours in more muted hues than the normal bold hoodies they wear.

A few hours later there is an announcement over the speakers. "Arrival to Planet #25768 imminent. Prepare for exit from Void. Drop order: Purple, Orange, Red, Blue. All passengers are to wear their Safety Control Apparatus and are reminded that emergency evacuation protocol is three short taps."

The train shudders and jerks. It is time.

Purple

"Purple Team to doors. Drop in two minutes. Purple team to doors."

The train flies down through the air before coming to a stop between two rocky outcrops. The doors hiss open, it’s a bit of a jump down to the ground and anyone who looks back will find the train hard to see. Not invisible but definitely cloaked, shifting to blend in with the rock.

They can hear the sound of many footsteps and the high sound of young voices. It is easy to hear where they need to be.

As they move down the rocky slope they will see the main pass. A large group of children are walking. Spirits are high even if it is clear they are on their guard. Older teens are wearing weapons, swords, the odd axe, a few daggers. Nothing expertly crafted but they all wear them with ease. Slightly younger children carry the very young, toddlers and those too young to walk and keep pace.

There’s a sound from in front of the group. From around the corner a girl, about thirteen years old, runs towards them. Her braids bounce against her shoulders, her eyes are wide with fear and she waves her hands at the others. “Run! Run!”

A shadow looms behind her, a winged wolf, gaining speed towards her. Sat on the wolf is a spear wielding goblin.

From all around them a growling of many more wolves, in the hills, close and ready to pounce.

Orange

Once Purple Team are gone the train flies again. "Orange Team to doors. Drop in two minutes. Orange Team to doors."

The train seems to be still concealed as it hovers at the city walls. There’s a bit of a jump onto the walls but at least they are near one of the staircases down into the city.

Also luckily no one seems to have seen them appearing out of no where though that has more to do with the general chaos rather than anything else!

There is a lot of chaos! People evacuating, animals everywhere, people looking lost and bewildered. Get herding or helping and encourage people up that cliff path!

Red

The train flies onward. "Red team to doors. Drop in two minutes. Red team to doors."

The train makes a slightly bumpy landing on a rocky slope. Scrambling up the slope red team will see a group of fighters, perhaps eighty in total. There are some supplies to the side, not yet allotted. Some horses and weapons. All the fighters are currently focused on a tall woman who is on horseback, facing them from the front.

“… Say those that stand here, as few as we may be were the ones who end the goblin menace on our lands for good. For our children and our families. We fight!”

The end of what was clearly a rousing speech, the fighters cheer. They begin to move over the slope, towards the goblin camp below. If you are joining this battle the time is now!

Blue

The train flies low, skimming over the lake. "Blue Team to doors. Drop in one minute. Blue Team to doors."

Jumping down off the train they will land in the shallows of the lake. It’s not deep enough to go over their boots and now too far to wade to shore. The shore is rocky, loose rocks and pools of water to avoid. The tower stands before them. Three goblins, riding wolves perch on the walls high above them. The sky above crackles with lightning that is not at all natural.

The doorway to the tower is open, there are a lot of stairs to get up. The howls of the wolves fill the air as the wizards fight them off above. Time to climb!

Ignis turned at the sound of an unfamiliar voice saying his name, but he nodded at the person saying it.

A small smile appeared at the mention of the council. Ignis hadn't even voted on that because he didn't know anything about the people that were being voted on. So in good conscience he couldn't vote on something he wasn't knowledgeable about.

And as it turned out he was now on it himself. But since he was given the responsibility he would do his best with it, much as he'd done at the age of six to be an advisor and constant companion to the future king.

Taking the offered hand, Ignis smiled as he shook it. "I'm quite sure we'll do just fine on this council. Ignis Scientia, it's a pleasure to meet you Manabu."

Since the other had given his full name, it was only right and proper that the advisor did the same.
siriusly: (i think he's dead.)

"Mm, likewise!" Putting on a chipper front is a bit difficult, considering what is facing everyone just ahead, but he still gives a nod and a smile all the same before withdrawing his hand to plant on his hip.

"You were the one who made all that food for Tony's party, weren't you? Unless I heard that wrong..."

Tony, the man who'd thrown that party and the head of the council that Manabu was on too. There was really just no escaping him. Ignis had actually thought about dancing with the man that night too, but figured it wouldn't be welcome so he hadn't tried though the thought had been there.

After their hands unclasped, Ignis nodded. This was the person..what was it Renee said?

"Yes I am but I only did some cooking." It wasn't anything special of course but that was just the way he saw it.

"And I've heard you have experience with trains, unless I misunderstood."
siriusly: (:\ um this is uncomfortable)

"Aa, no, you're right. My job where I'm from is guarding trains on the Galaxy Railways." He rubs the back of his neck, starting to feel sheepish. He is endlessly proud of his work, but it's become a very bitter pill to swallow in realizing how little he can use it in a situation like this. So much for useful consul, huh?

"I've been...trying to get a better sense of this vessel myself, but. With the engine locked up tight, I don't have a whole lot to go on, unfortunately...I, I took a peek under the floor panels, too, but..." No dice. His shrug says enough about that.

Renee's intel had certainly been correct and inwardly Ignis was grateful to her for the help. "I've not heard of Galaxy Railways." But then of course, Ignis didn't know much about anything outside of his home world. Sill he was changing that as learning of course took time.

"There's nothing for it so far as I've heard. No one seems to be able to find out who is in charge, though I have heard whoever it is listens when spoken to."

That was something Tony had told him.
siriusly: (b...but i mean.)

"Sure, but all they'll do it spit out automated responses." Manabu spent maybe a bit too much time trying to start a dialogue, only to be shut down every time by dead-end, canned replies. He sighs, his hand slipping away from his neck.

"Complaining won't do much good about it, but at least maybe we can all find a way to crack that engine open and have a look before we get sucked back out into nothingness, right?" That's his hope, anyway. He can't imagine anyone not wanting to know.
faithfulsupport: (You really believe that?)

"I hadn't realized." After getting the scoop from Tony and Lightning, Ignis had done some investigating on his own but he hadn't tried talking to anyone from the train itself.

He smiled about the not complaining thing. That reminded him of back home due to Noct or Prompto fussing after a battle. Ignis would then be the one to tell them that he was grateful to be very much alive after whatever creature they had just fought.

"As long as everything isn't completely broken that can be done. I've found that some on board would rather be on the train than not."
siriusly: (those are sugar-free gummi bears)

"Really?"

That was news to Manabu, who takes it with raised eyebrows and an eventual frown.

"Being...cooped up for weeks on a cramped, weird train is...I mean, I work on them for a living, so it's not the worst, but cabin fever is pretty common after a while."
faithfulsupport: (Serious)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2019-09-20 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ignis nodded to the question but he saw the frown soon enough.

"Being cooped up may be far preferable to having absolutely nothing to go back to."

He hoped the other caught his meaning, but that was as far into it as the advisor was going to go.
siriusly: (item get)

His eyes wince at that before looking away.

"Ye-yeah," he replies. "No, you're right. I won't complain much, considering we're all still being taken care of. Only...if these 'missions' are going to be a regular thing, knowing who wants it done and why is pretty important to know. And for how long."

Because while some may have nothing to return to, others have jobs and lives just sitting on hold for this, and no real certainty that time isn't passing them by there.

"Since children seem to be involved that is the biggest issue I take with the missions." Ignis can't even begin to explain how angry he is about this. But doing errands for others is old hat for him. His green eyes looked at the other sympathetically.

"If we're not being told, I'm sure we can at least look for the answers when we land if we're not acquiring them from anyone on the train itself."

He was a big believer in gathering intel when not having all of the information about a quest or thing to do.
