Deep Dweller: Start

After the dreams some of the voidtreckers report on day Four of Grasshopper those that have been on the train for a little while will be expecting what comes the next day. Their SCA's glow with the colour of the void and a holographic image will appear.

Preparations and Arrival

As promised the dressing carriage is opened for optional extras. There are flight suits, similar to those they wore into space but without the helmets. There are instead hard hats and some basic climbing gear as well as bags to put supplies in. There are even a few red tents if any of those planning on tackling red's mission want to grab one, they hold six people in two inner compartments and are relatively easy to put up and take down.

They have a few hours of preparation before the announcement comes. Soon approaching system #789327772. Planet Terra. Drop order: Orange, Red, Blue, Purple. Orange to doors. Leaving the void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. A sharp jerk, a judder and the view from the window changes from the void to dark cloudy skies and very red sand.

They land smoothly, and indeed it seems they have landed on train tracks. A few moments later they pull up outside a huge metal and glass building.

Orange Team

Arrival

Jumping down from the train they will find themselves outside large metal gates. Noticable is the spotlights that shine even in the day time, reflecting oddly off the red sand. It is hot and dry outside, a slight breeze sending red dust rolling around their feet.

The gates aren't locked. There is no lock though they will notice devices that are probably security cameras. The doors are glass and inside is light and airy. They enter into a large lobby, a large circular desk in the centre and a glass walled waiting room to the side.

It is empty. No people at all. All the lights are on. Time to explore.

Exploration

Going up two floors and down five the lab is large and full of all manner of interesting things. Scientific equipment, monitoring stations measuring chemical levels in the air, temperature, water levels. Where to even start is a good question. The lights remain on, which might be annoying at night.

Red Team

Arrivals

Red team to doors. The train continues travelling along the train tracks, looking out the windows they will see endless rolling red sand. Factories rising up from the ground, dotted across the landscape. As the train gets close the air outside seems hazier, through the fumes. They may even see in the distance, strange silver floating orbs.

Eventually it pulls up at a station. Just a raised block really, but easy enough for red team to disembark.

The land stretches out around them. Train tracks criss cross the surface but apart from that there don't seem to be any boundaries. No fences, roads or sign posts.

It won't take them long to find the first orbs, strange silvery spheres and seem almost liquid, until they are not.

Night Time

It grows dark quickly after sunset here, which might take them by surprise. Taking them more by surprise however may be the scraping, scuttling noises in the dark. Skittering close. There is no light out here on the surface, they are far away from the research facility that Orange found themselves in.

If anyone manages to catch a glimpse they will see grey, long limmbed creatures. They shy away from light but anyone in the dark is likely to be attacked. They fight with claws and teeth.

When the sun rises they are gone.

Blue Team

Arrival

Blue team to doors. The train continues across the landscape, passing more orbs, just floating there silently. It stops at the entrance of a cave.

The cave slopes downwards into darkness and soon turns into small tunnels. They don't need to go far when they meet the first ground of Gry. A group of young Gry, practising with spears in an wider section of cave.

Despite being very surprised at the sudden visitors no weapons are pointed at the voidtreckers, instead they are met with curiosity. They are soon led further into the tunnels and soon come to the living areas.

The Gry lead simple lives but they are all pretty fascinated to see their visitors and will allow them to look around their home and answer any questions they have.

Night Time

Most of the Gry sleep in a large communal sleeping area and the Voidtreckers are welcome to join them, though the Gry won't be insulted if they choose to seek out a more private area.

If the Voidtreckers awake in fear in the night, after strange dreams they will find they are not alone. Many of the Gry have awoken too and will reassure the Voidtreckers, tell them it is an honour to communicate with The Burrower.

Purple

Arrival

Purple team to doors. The train continues on the tracks and soon enters a tunnel itself. It's a bit of a bumpy trip, this train was clearly not made for warren systems but after some uneasy twists and turns they pull to a stop.

They are at a train station, not that it's easy to see because it is pitch black. But it is clear there are people around, some looking very confused at the very odd train.

Once the last of those going on the mission leave the train it speeds off into the darkness.

The Terran's are large and tower over most of the voidtreckers but they are friendly enough, if a little confused, once it is explained that they are here to help. They will be led over towards the collapsed section of city.

There is a lot of activity. People digging at rubble, others using their sheer size and strength to hold up beams. There is an array of rescue equipment and a group of official-looking Terran's holding large devices that are comparable to a tablet-computer and discussing solutions.

There is plenty to do to help, smaller rubble to clear, injured people to tend to. Worried Terran's to calm and reassure. Those brave enough can volunteer to use their smaller size to help get supplies through to those trapped and those with any scientific know how, great strength or magic can put their skills to good use.

Rest Time

Throughout the day people are rescued and other parts of the tunnels stabilised. There is more work to be done but the Terran's seem to be working in shifts and they will encourage their surprise allies to rest as well. They will offer to host them.

They live in large groups and will happily invite the voidtreckers into their homes. They will be curious about the voidtreckers but will also answer questions. Telling them about the strange storm and the collapse of the tunnels. They are urged to sleep early and the next day it will be back to work.

Freaking out does strange things to one's social calendar; she's spent more time than she expected in her bunk, and the gym. But she's more or less back to normal now, if stressed in the other direction now - there's work to be done and she doesn't want to disappoint. She senses Tidus coming before he greets her but she doesn't address him until he calls out - for all she knows he's in the middle of something and wasn't going to stop.

Her answering smile is a little thin. "I'm a little anxious? I saw your summary of what to expect, and I paid attention to the thing on the SCA, but I just feel like I don't know enough. I'm a little concerned I'm gonna make a mess of things, honestly."

"... That's the Red Team spirit."

Has she made that quip before? Well, whatever.

There's a pile of the red tents stacked on the small station platform; she kicks one up so she can grab it and throw it to him. The bags are made to be carried, but probably not lobbed at another human being... but she figures if the guy can disembowel a jellyfish, he can catch a bag. "You got any other tricks? Apart from using a sword."

Normally she's got at least some idea, because people love talking about themselves. Or something. Enough that they've responded to at least one of her Q+As. But not him.

Madoka does politely wait a moment until the Gry trying to talk to Ple Two is gone. But once they are, she's right by the other girl's side. She'd recognize that voice anywhere, even with how dark it can be in this place.

She knows exactly what the other is talking about, having had a very similar dream. But even though it's made her slightly jittery, she can easily push it aside when she can replace it with concern for the other instead. Said concern is probably even visible on her face with how close she is to the other now.

"Are you okay..?" Ple Two is tough, sure, but even she called it terrifying.

Madoka kind of knew Gladio would answer this way. It's just the way he is - ever dependable. It's why she turned to him first with this kind of question. Well, the fact that he's on the same team as her also helps, since it means she doesn't have to ask someone from another team to come with her, but it's also just since it's Gladio. Just his answer alone makes her smile.

"Thank you." The genuine gratitude is so obvious in her voice. Madoka makes absolutely no movement to try and pull her hand out of his. "But.. you shouldn't say you're a poor substitute, mister Gladio. It's true that no one can replace someone else, but.. you're amazing in your own way!"

Even if he isn't her dad like Ignis was or like Tony is. Being around him is still comfortable enough that she feels close to Gladio anyway.

Ah, pre-mission jitters. Really, Tidus knew a mission was upcoming soon after his arrival, but not when it would happen, and as soon as it did; and maybe he suffered some jitters himself then, but he had his mind on disappointing another that distracted him entirely.

But still, the corners of his features soften, a look of understanding coming before the nod he gives.

"Well, honestly? No matter what, we're all going in knowing the same as each other. It doesn't matter if you've been here a week or the entire time this train's been running--we're all on the same page! Only difference is what you've got to go in a mission with."

Whether you managed to get some equipment over time, or nada.

"Who you going with? Purple?"

She nodded, holding her dagger up in a defensive guard.

"I will be staying close, I will no be letting them near."

She hopes. Fighting things you can't seem to hurt is very annoying.

second day, morning

[personal profile] enthunder 2020-07-12 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Her first day, she'd helped set up and explore; ranged a little, poked at an orb or two. But once the initial novelty had worn off, she'd felt the need to move, to do something, and so she'd called Odin forth and ridden out to see how far the silver spread.

Quite far, it turned out. To her great disgust. What, they were meant to get rid of all of these? By the time she'd turned for home, now on foot, it had been late in the day. By the time night fell and it all went to shit, she was more than ready to just cast Thundaga over and over. And did so, until she was almost kneeling from exhaustion.

She shows up back in camp in the morning. Whole and unharmed, thanks to a session of Cures, but the damage to her flight suit and the blood on the tears gives an idea of the night she's had. There are a few metal poles strapped to her back, but she had to get rid of most of them in her flight back to Red team. She drops them with a clank.

"Can't believe I owe Xue Yang ten points," she complains, voice scratchy, and flops into the sand next to Tidus.

"Don't attack them." There's not much emotion in his voice, but it is quietly intense. He doesn't want violence. Doesn't want to think about Tidus, who is so kind, so good being violent.

Who knows what these spheres were? They could be life forms. They shouldn't be attacked.

He shook his head at the question, "Just that the storm was planet wise."

Tidus knew she'd gone out, not that he'd known what she expected to find than a whole lotta more orbs by the mission report, but he knew it was something else than waiting around like the rest of them were left to do.

And when the more than most of them were looking for finally happened--cool, thanks, in the middle of the night--Tidus had the concern to think about Light, but none of the time to actually make a call out to her, as the rush to figure out how to knock back the surprisingly hardy fiends then swapped over to create enough light to get everyone around and protected.

Light finds her, in the midst of ending a conversation over his SCA, his purple bag sat in a spot to keep open the notebook he actually figured to bring for once open, as well as a stack of playing cards in their packaging.

That's pretty much forgotten the second Tidus witnesses Light approach, and if she hadn't flopped down next to him, he wouldn't gotten up.

"Okay, you are not going out on your own again--Odin doesn't count," he adds, as if he needs to. Tidus is seeing the state of Light and he's not enjoying it. There's a mess in his mind as he figures what he should do, demand, before deciding: "There's some quarters in one of the undergrounds near here. I'll let you take a breather, then I'm helping you over to get some rest, okay? It'll be better than the tents up here."

Less noise for one, he hopes. Whatever. Light is grounded into getting rest a.s.a.p.

"Fingon! Thank Iluvatar you are here," Glorfindel says, watching him work. "Let me know how I can help." He didn't want to just jump in, if Fingon's got this one, or try to help and make it worse, so he will wait, adding light to the situation, until Fingon gives him direction.

Ah-- It's quieter, but as severe as when Taiki had scolded him over how he referred to Saku, and it makes Tidus silent, but he can understand. Maybe attacking them wasn't such a great idea. There were a bunch of ruined labs now after taking them in. Who knows if the scientists tried that?

At least Taiki gives him something else to bounce off of, even if he didn't really need the help to go on.

"Hmm, so a storm happened... well, it'll help if we can get anything soon from Orange Team." His voice then brightens as he recalls, "Last time somewhere went quiet, it was 'cause the Bui people fell asleep! Maybe they'll find the scientists snoozing too."

But the Orange Team--that reminds Tidus with a quiet 'oh yeah', and he raises his wrist with his SCA and presses at it, until he notices--

"The voice chat is back!"

Glorfindel nodded over to where the Terrans had their equipment. "Over there, Ichigo. There seem to be two in that direction, and..." he paused, listening to their Songs, "one there, and another about four feet away, there, but there is rock between them."

At least, with Glorfindel there, Ichigo can see.

Glorfindel's glow lit up the crevasse once he was in it, though he appreciated the offer of the light. "I'm guessing this is why the Train gave us the jumpsuits," he said as he finally got close enough to reach her, and freed her hoodie from the root.

"Can you move now, or are you caught anywhere else?" he asked.

It was too late for Orisa to stop Undyne. Already she was leaning backwards. The sphere was slammed into the ground at tremendous force. Once it hit the ground, though, it simply bounced back up, continuing to bounce at lower heights, until it came to a stop.

Undyne had gotten back up, and looked at the sphere in disappointent. Not even a suplex did anything to it. Hearing Orisa's question, Undyne turned towards her. "You can't leave out any possibilities when doing science. You gotta try EVERYTHING! Any possibility not tried might be one that works!" Undyne exclaimed.

As much as it can. There are about 80 people missing, and not all of them have been accounted for, though we have a few more found now, so yes, I think they are more grateful than not for the help.

It would be helpful to have someone as versatile as Yuna with the team, he understood she had to follow her conscience, which was pointing her to Red this time.

"He would be very helpful here, as his people mostly live underground," Glorfindel said. "We'll have to keep an eye on the luggage car when we get back, in hopes that he's one of the ones that comes back. At least until the next Dock when we find out for sure."

Fandaniel frowns, wrestling with what passes as his conscience. Clearly Tidus just wants to help, and he could just.. lie .. but that could be inconvenient later, like if he seriously needed healing and everyone was worried about not saving him because it might hurt.

"It won't kill me," he says after a mighty struggle with his own sense of right and wrong, "It's just unpleasant."

Which is to say it's perfectly fine, what healing ISN'T unpleasant? "Unless you start with the light beams and such, those certainly hurt a lot."

Glorfindel took a moment from his sensing and dimmed his light so he could bend over the tablet too. He made note of the area in which they needed to search.

"Where, approximately, are the ones you've found so far?" he asked. He would concentrate on location and leave the missing five to Roland. Although, "if we need a mystery solved, I did see Conan came with our team," he said to Roland.

"I'm starting to get used to you in Orange," Glorfindel said with an answering laugh. "It really brings out your Fire Spirit." The bag had a mix of the lembas and some of the pastries they'd made together. There was more than enough for Curufin to share, since Glorfindel had a sneaking suspicion he might do just that.

He huffed out a breath. "It sounds gruelling and labor intensive. But with the blessing of Eru, we will hopefully rescue as many as are still living. Probably will use less brain power than Orange's mission though."

"No argument on that count." It's mostly spoken into her shawl, as she yanks it over her head to get a better idea of the damage. "The moment the sun set, the entire goddess-damned planet was crawling with monsters. How bad was it here?"

She pulls a face at the rents and tears in the fabric. Yeah, okay. That's a lost cause until she's got a couple of hours and a needle.

"Well, if it sucks too much, lemme know?" It sounds like a compromise. Can this be a compromise?? Regardless, Tidus isn't here to make Fandaniel more miserable than sitting with open wounds would leave him.

But he brings his hands to Fandaniel, and the stilted energy surrounding his hands spreads and hopefully, fortunately, the wisps of light won't be as much of a nuisance as lightbeams (let's hope), finding the wounds and starting to stitch the skin together, soothe the ache they make.

"Maybe you can teach me a spell that'd be better for you?"

You know. Maybe. If there are any.
