Event: Healing Waters

"Good morning passengers, it is day twenty three of the month of Grasshopper. All passengers of the Voidtrecker Express require rest. Next stop Jema’grethy Island. All passengers prepare to disembark."

It is a very strange morning message that rings through the train on the morning of day twenty three but as the passengers of the Voidtrecker Express wake their screens glow with the colour of the void and a holographic screen pops up for them to read.

World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.

The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving today and leaving on day twenty six of the month of Grasshopper. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.

It is time for a holiday it seems!

Preparation

For those who go to explore the dressing carriage they will find a variety of beachwear and wetsuits. One cupboard has a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours.

One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.

It seems they are in for quite an adventure.

Arrival

"Shortly arriving on World #2554098133741. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

The train lurches and rattles as it leaves the void they will get a glimpse of silver-purple sky and a beautiful ocean below.

However some passengers might be a little more than distracted, one staring at that table for a second too long, another seeming lost in thought for a couple of seconds, a longer than normal pause in a sentence. They see a vision, a glimpse of a life that is not their own. Not all at once, but here and there as the train descends to the island.

But then it is gone and things are back to normal. Just in time, as they come to land.

Jema’grethy Island

The train has landed on a grassy ridge, overlooking a beautiful beach of white sand and the ocean beyond. It is warm, but not too hot, a cool ocean breeze cutting through the heat making it pleasant. Behind them is a grassy plain, changing to forest in the distance. There is the sound of birdsong in the purple sky. To the west the land is more craggy, the silhouette of a fortress in the distance. In a word, it is idylic. A sense of peace permeates the island.

A little more worrying is the volcano-like structure in the north. But even a quick glance will show it is not a typical volcano. There is no smoke and the liquid slowly running down it in rivulets is pink and blue.

Exploring the passengers will find beautiful beaches, ragged cliffs to walk and caves to explore. Where it is more craggy the beaches are made of pebbles- perfect for rock pooling.

The place has no people, but it is clearly maintained. The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.

Ruins of ancient houses are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.

There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.

Hot Springs

To the west are the hot springs. They have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.

Perfect for overly stressed, world weary Void heroes...

"Taking a sample's not an issue. This thing looks nowhere near as nasty as a mus'kippa," Eva quips, never mind he likely wouldn't know what she means unless he's listened to her rattle on about the well-informed dangers of a carnivine.

Who are basically very nasty flytraps that have been known to eat humans.

"It's more the food source."

"I don't know what a mus'kippa actually is. I assume that is something native to your world?" Which seemed likely anyway. Maybe something slightly more dangerous than what they are looking at now.

"Food source? I mean if it was like a fly trap it would be obvious, but I haven't really noticed much in the way of small creatures, or I haven't been paying enough attention."

"Think... giant sentient flytraps that walk on tentacle-like roots for legs and hang upside down from trees and attract prey with sweet-smelling saliva. I own one myself and even after years and years of working with the monster... well. I won't let anyone near it without me."

She'd show him a picture if he really wanted, but... perhaps this one is best left to the imagination. "Yeah. But this also part rose, so maybe... I'd have to be sure though. The last thing I want to do is take it with me and have it die, you know?"

Yugi slowly started to picture exactly that and the thought was terrifying. But he nods slightly. Something liee this has to be taken with care, even if it does eat insects or something.

Different worlds sure were something.

"Maybe find some others who might be more helpful with plants? Like we know what venus fly traps eat and what roses are like...so my guess would be a combo of the two maybe? But again...not an expert."

"That's a good idea. While I am something of an expert on plants," she starts, hand flicking in a small signal to Roro and with a short 'bzzt!' of agreement, the rotomi starts taking enough photos to last several lifetimes.

Or maybe just to forge a 3d hologram later, given she really, really likes plants and nature. "We've enough worlds on the train that anything's possible."

[personal profile] sizedoesntmatter 2020-08-19 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, a lot of worlds." So many it was unbelievable but true. "For all, we know there is a world with something very familiar to this." he leaned in closer to take a look, but not close enough for anything to happen, he just wanted to see it a bit closer.

"Makes you wonder what kind of bugs are here though"
mtsilver_conquor: (Umm I didn't do it)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-08-20 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
"True."

Between Yugi and Eva's fingers getting closer, there seems to be a shift in the plant as the flytrap opens wider, almost as if it can sense something near it.

Though, Eva's distracted by this thanks to Yugi's words, and there is a noticeable pause before she laughs, a little brokenly. ".... as long as there's no metre long bees, I'm good."

She does not want to deal with beedril, thank you very much.

He chucked slightly for a moment. "I think if the bugs were big we would have probably noticed them by now. I would also be very worried if they were big."

Very worried actually, he wouldn't even be sure he would want to be here. He soon moved his hand away when he thought it might snap before looking around. "have you seen any other interesting plants?"
mtsilver_conquor: (headscratch)

If Eva does this, any insect no's?

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-08-21 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
"True, and I- you would?" She blinks, thoughts and topic derailed from the plants, for now. "Big bugs are kinda normal on my world? I mean, yea, the bees are no fun, but a lot of the other bugs aren't as nasty? I could show you some if you want?"
sizedoesntmatter: (125)

No. I'm the type who only gets werid out about bugs if I see them in person.

[personal profile] sizedoesntmatter 2020-08-21 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"From my world if they were, yes. Not counting duel monsters cards." Because those holograms they be big, but at least they weren't real.

"Show me some? What kind?"

"True, and well, yeah. Bug-types aren't all insects. Hmm..." There's a few seconds of thought as she goes through her mental list of bugs, both officially recognised and not, and then grins. "There's this thing called a 'beetik' on the Orenji Archipelago. It's kinda rare but also really cute. I know someone who owns ones."

Sort of. It's complicated.

Roro helpfully brings up a picture and hovers nearish Yugi. 'Beetik and tykewee.'

He looked over as he looked at what he was being shown "They look like they could be rather huge bugs." Which if someone didn't like bugs that world would probably not be the best place to live to say the least.

But Yugi was perfectly okay with them. "Do bugs from your world eat the same things bugs do elsewhere?"
mtsilver_conquor: (On top of the world!)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-08-27 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Beetik's only about 50cm tall, actually and the main diet is electricity but they're also herbivores, too."

So maybe about mid-thigh hight for Yugi. And while she would say more- brb chatterbox and a bit of an excited info dump. Nature is nothing without its bugs. Nothing. "Most bug-types are omnivores, actually, but like, supiā'll rather go flowers and various flora-class 'mon with flowers, like kireihana or fushigibana. In fact, they're rather important to that species... They've also been known to take actual beehives back to their hives and cultivate them in lieu of making their own honey."

She could literally talk for hours.

"That's still a lot bigger than bugs I know of back home." He couldn't even think of bugs that could be close to 50cm's really. But Yugi was at least happy to listen to what the other had to say for the time being.

"So while they are omnivores they prefer flowers and with taking back beehives do they still have the bees there or just the beehive?"

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-08-29 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it would be," Eva says with a half-grin. Even after the half-year on the train, she's not used to seeing non-pokemon worlds.

"Yeah; they have the bees and all. Most beekeepers'll have both supiā and bees, because it's easier than risking wild supiā hives making off with the bees. The bee pokemon'll defend the bees against foreign hives and sometimes, if the bees can't find enough food, the pokemon'll provide it."

"So it sounds like they do have a decent amount of teamwork." It was nice to hear at least hearing something like that.

But soon his focus was back onto the flower. "I feel like we should separate and see if we can find any bugs or something. I mean the plant is grown like this for a reason after all right? So there must be bugs or something that it eats."
mtsilver_conquor: (Default)

[personal profile] mtsilver_conquor 2020-09-09 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah."

Eva nods. "I think that'd be a good idea. I can't say much about the bugs myself, but I do know I'd like to head deeper into the forest and see what I can find at least."

He nodded slightly, a little more determined than ever wanting to see just what else could be on this island.

"So I'll go this way and you'll go another. Maybe meet each other later and see what we find?"
