Event: Healing Waters

"Good morning passengers, it is day twenty three of the month of Grasshopper. All passengers of the Voidtrecker Express require rest. Next stop Jema’grethy Island. All passengers prepare to disembark."

It is a very strange morning message that rings through the train on the morning of day twenty three but as the passengers of the Voidtrecker Express wake their screens glow with the colour of the void and a holographic screen pops up for them to read.

World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.

The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving today and leaving on day twenty six of the month of Grasshopper. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.

It is time for a holiday it seems!

Preparation

For those who go to explore the dressing carriage they will find a variety of beachwear and wetsuits. One cupboard has a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours.

One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.

It seems they are in for quite an adventure.

Arrival

"Shortly arriving on World #2554098133741. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

The train lurches and rattles as it leaves the void they will get a glimpse of silver-purple sky and a beautiful ocean below.

However some passengers might be a little more than distracted, one staring at that table for a second too long, another seeming lost in thought for a couple of seconds, a longer than normal pause in a sentence. They see a vision, a glimpse of a life that is not their own. Not all at once, but here and there as the train descends to the island.

But then it is gone and things are back to normal. Just in time, as they come to land.

Jema’grethy Island

The train has landed on a grassy ridge, overlooking a beautiful beach of white sand and the ocean beyond. It is warm, but not too hot, a cool ocean breeze cutting through the heat making it pleasant. Behind them is a grassy plain, changing to forest in the distance. There is the sound of birdsong in the purple sky. To the west the land is more craggy, the silhouette of a fortress in the distance. In a word, it is idylic. A sense of peace permeates the island.

A little more worrying is the volcano-like structure in the north. But even a quick glance will show it is not a typical volcano. There is no smoke and the liquid slowly running down it in rivulets is pink and blue.

Exploring the passengers will find beautiful beaches, ragged cliffs to walk and caves to explore. Where it is more craggy the beaches are made of pebbles- perfect for rock pooling.

The place has no people, but it is clearly maintained. The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.

Ruins of ancient houses are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.

There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.

Hot Springs

To the west are the hot springs. They have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.

Perfect for overly stressed, world weary Void heroes...

It's easy to forget that Glorfindel went through a strange sort of body swap of his own, though from the stories shared with him, it's a completely different ball game entirely. While Roland was granted a body two decades younger than he really was thanks to magic intervention, Glorfindel actually fell in battle and had to wait for another form.

"What did it look like, then? Your mantle and armor. Paint me a picture." He is encouraging, as they cross a little further into the territories of the grassy plains and lush greenery. Something Roland thinks Glorfindel will appreciate.

Glorfindel was happy to oblige, as they walked through such lovely scenery.

"My armor was damascened with gold, made by some quite cunning craftsmen," he said, reminiscing. "My mantle was embroidered with threads of gold, diapered with celadine to make it look like a field in spring." He smiled. "It was made and presented to me by my House. I felt so honored and touched. I wore it everywhere."

"Did you have some favorites, as well?" he asked Roland.

The verdant lowlands they were passing look lifted straight out of a movie or a painting, and with Glorfindel's stories of his precious armor weaved from something out of magic itself, Roland's mind felt at ease. Quiet moments like this gave him perspective on the surreal nature his life has unexpectedly taken.

"That would have been quite a sight to see." They reach the more forested areas not before long as they converse, a canopy of trees with a variety of foreign flora peppering in with the green. "If I had such extravagant armor, I'd probably do the same and wear it to bed myself."

Granted with a bit of shade from the increasingly warm temperature, Roland tilts his head up and smiles at the serenity of healthy leaves shielding them from garish light. His mind wanders to his own favorite Evermorian attire, the answer coming to him in a split second.

"Someone in the kingdom, a citizen we helped and recruited named Grimm, thought it nice to give me a new uniform to wear as Chief Consul. It turned out great. A black and purple robe with gold accents. Matching white gloves and boots. It was well put-together, but more than how it looked, it represented the citizens' trust in me. When I put it on, I knew I had to work even harder to repay them."

Glorfindel laughed. "I didn't wear the armor every day, just the mantle."

He listened to the description of the robe with boots and gloves, and nodded at Roland's words. "Exactly! That is exactly it. Being born in a line of princes doesn't do you any good if you cannot keep the feelings of the people who look to you in your heart!" He turned to Roland to clasp his arm in brotherly camaraderie. Someone who got it, who got him.

Roland offers him a nod and a smile, clasping his hand back with a firm grip of his own. He knew it wasn't a coincidence that he's felt a kindred spirit in Glorfindel since the beginning, and it wasn't the constant glowing that convinced him of that.

"Well, I'm definitely no prince but I'd be a poor elected official if I didn't put the people first. I'm glad you see it that way, too." He chuckles to himself. "Why don't we order our official garb on the onboard shop, see if the train can't get us our gear?" Roland jests, but hey. He's always been one to always look the part, and hoodies just weren't cutting anymore.

Glorfindel looked a little wistful. "I do really miss my mantle. You don't think it's too much for the Train though? We seem to be rather informal." But it's not like he's ordering his armor...though he could. But seriously where would he keep it when they were on the Train? Those cubbies just didn't hold that much, and the luggage car was rather smoky.

That reminded him. "Speaking of giving back to the people, what do you think of doing a little remodel of the luggage car? I was thinking some nice plants, perhaps some vines? They could help clear the air and make the place a little more friendly to those who Return."

"I think that's what I'm not used to. The informal bit. I already look too darned young, what more put me in a hoodie of all things. Heh." Give him one decent outfit apart from the train's uniforms, and Roland would be a happy camper. It may not look it, but he does put some pride in his aesthetic.

He stops for a moment, leans on the thick bark of the nearest tree. "That sounds like a nice idea. Galo mentioned the same thing, but for the medbay's recovery rooms." And Roland was all over that idea, too. "Where would you get the plants? At the store?" He chuckles, a gesture to the flora around them. "Or are we really here to take some of these nice flowers back onboard?"

"I've seen others on the Train with personalized outfits," Glorfindel commented. "Some purchase from the Train, either the Random Outfit option," he'd gotten some from there, "or get it as a Specific item, or they buy it from Dread Spider for a reasonable fee," he'd also gotten a nice robe from her.

"She's the one who is giving out the free yukata," he pointed out. "She does really good work."

He looked down at the plants around them. "If any are willing to come along, absolutely. If not, I can just take a clipping from the vine in my cabin." He grinned at Roland. "I'm not Persephone, but I am not bad with plants, myself."

"I am not sure about plants in the recovery rooms, though. Perhaps some nice murals, though? I can ask Rapunzel and see if perhaps she might be interested?"
