Event: Healing Waters

"Good morning passengers, it is day twenty three of the month of Grasshopper. All passengers of the Voidtrecker Express require rest. Next stop Jema’grethy Island. All passengers prepare to disembark."

It is a very strange morning message that rings through the train on the morning of day twenty three but as the passengers of the Voidtrecker Express wake their screens glow with the colour of the void and a holographic screen pops up for them to read.

World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.

The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving today and leaving on day twenty six of the month of Grasshopper. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.

It is time for a holiday it seems!

Preparation

For those who go to explore the dressing carriage they will find a variety of beachwear and wetsuits. One cupboard has a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours.

One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.

It seems they are in for quite an adventure.

Arrival

"Shortly arriving on World #2554098133741. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

The train lurches and rattles as it leaves the void they will get a glimpse of silver-purple sky and a beautiful ocean below.

However some passengers might be a little more than distracted, one staring at that table for a second too long, another seeming lost in thought for a couple of seconds, a longer than normal pause in a sentence. They see a vision, a glimpse of a life that is not their own. Not all at once, but here and there as the train descends to the island.

But then it is gone and things are back to normal. Just in time, as they come to land.

Jema’grethy Island

The train has landed on a grassy ridge, overlooking a beautiful beach of white sand and the ocean beyond. It is warm, but not too hot, a cool ocean breeze cutting through the heat making it pleasant. Behind them is a grassy plain, changing to forest in the distance. There is the sound of birdsong in the purple sky. To the west the land is more craggy, the silhouette of a fortress in the distance. In a word, it is idylic. A sense of peace permeates the island.

A little more worrying is the volcano-like structure in the north. But even a quick glance will show it is not a typical volcano. There is no smoke and the liquid slowly running down it in rivulets is pink and blue.

Exploring the passengers will find beautiful beaches, ragged cliffs to walk and caves to explore. Where it is more craggy the beaches are made of pebbles- perfect for rock pooling.

The place has no people, but it is clearly maintained. The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.

Ruins of ancient houses are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.

There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.

Hot Springs

To the west are the hot springs. They have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.

Perfect for overly stressed, world weary Void heroes...

"You could drown! I'm not going to let a fellow passenger drown when I can prevent it!" Those sad kitty eyes were not going to work on Ichigo. He ignored them and got to work tying hooks on both lines and baiting them.

"I wouldn't drown! I would never drown! I fish like this all the time back home!"

"Answer's still no." Shaking his head, Ichigo just got both poles ready and put the lines in the water. He hoped he'd picked a good pool for fishing, so he could fill the buckets easily.

"Oh come on, it's fun, and besides, no human is as good at fishing as me, that's why they call it cat fishing in the first place."

Ichigo snorted softly. "Here I thought cat fishing meant catching catfish. Never had those myself, but I hear some people love it." Once both lines were in the water, Ichigo got the poles anchored in some sand and rocks, and took a seat on the beach.

"Ah, it's fine, you were only off by a whisker. So now you'll launch me?"

"No." Ichigo said simply. "You want my help catching fish, I'm willing. But not in a way that means flinging you at the water." He was genuinely afraid he would hurt Spark.

"Do... do you hate me?" he asked, slinking down and looking pathetic and sad.

Not the sad kitty face. Anything but the sad kitty face. Sighing, Ichigo reached over to scritch Spark's ears and smiled a little. "Of course I don't hate you. But I am worried I'd hurt you. Yeah, you're a talking cat, but you're still a cat. I have more strength than I look like, and even when I do my best, I'm not always good at holding back. What if I threw you so hard the line snapped and you got caught in a rip tide?"

He leaned into the scritches and huffed. "Oh fine fine, but it is more fun to fish together... and no human can get enough fish for me without my help..." Could he turn this into more fish at least? He was going ti try....

Ichigo smiled a little at that as Spark's pole started to bob with a fish. He stopped scritching the ginger cat's ears and picked up the pole to reel it in. "Well, here's your first fish." Grinning, Ichigo plopped the fish into one of the buckets and used the other one to add some water to it. "Huh. Should have gotten a few big leaves I can gut the fish onto so I can use the guts for more bait."

"I can gut the fish," he said, though the way he licked his lips made it seem as though there must be a pun there....

Ichigo side eye-ed Spark at that, though there was a smirk on his lips. "If I let you, will there be any left to use as bait?"

"Yes, because more bait means more fish, so I will wait with baited breath... and only eat half of it."

"Alright. Keep an eye on my line? Gonna get a few big leaves real quick to keep the dirt off the fish and the innards." Getting up, Ichigo slipped his sandals off and headed for the treeline.

"Leafing so soon?" he asked, but kept watching the line... until his tail twitched. He pounced on his tail and caught it, starting to chew on it a bit.

Coming back with a couple of flat leaves, Ichigo rolled his eyes at the cat. "I take it I haven't gotten a bite on my line yet? Because your tail sure caught you."

"I could give you an excuse, but we'd both know it was a tall tail."

Laughing, Ichigo ruffled Spark's fur as he settled back into the sand. "Need me to kill and cut the fish, or just kill it so you can get the guts out?" He let his trench knife manifest, since he didn't have anything smaller to use to gut or clean the fish.

"I can kill it if you don't want to, but I don't think it's an issue much longer, it is as close to dying of embarrassment as any fish out of water could be..."

Using the knife half of Zangetsu, Ichigo severed the fish's spine with a quick cut. "Whatever you aren't wanting to eat this second, put in the left bucket. That's yours."

"I don't think you can fish fast enough for me to put anything in that bucket for later..." yes, that was a challenge...

"Leave the guts for me to use as bait and we'll see if you're right." Snorting in amusement, Ichigo reeled in his first catch and was quick to kill it.

"If you got the guts to do that much fishing...." he grinned and gutted the fish with his hind claws, tossing aside the innards for Ichigo to use for bait.

It was still more fun fishing his way, but at least he could start eating now.

Snorting softly, Ichigo got his hook baited with some of the fish guts as his kitten sunbathed on a flat rock at his side. "Well, if you think you can get an octopus without it best you, I might let you fish your way for me later."
