Event: Healing Waters

"Good morning passengers, it is day twenty three of the month of Grasshopper. All passengers of the Voidtrecker Express require rest. Next stop Jema’grethy Island. All passengers prepare to disembark."

It is a very strange morning message that rings through the train on the morning of day twenty three but as the passengers of the Voidtrecker Express wake their screens glow with the colour of the void and a holographic screen pops up for them to read.

World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.

The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving today and leaving on day twenty six of the month of Grasshopper. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.

It is time for a holiday it seems!

Preparation

For those who go to explore the dressing carriage they will find a variety of beachwear and wetsuits. One cupboard has a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours.

One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.

It seems they are in for quite an adventure.

Arrival

"Shortly arriving on World #2554098133741. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

The train lurches and rattles as it leaves the void they will get a glimpse of silver-purple sky and a beautiful ocean below.

However some passengers might be a little more than distracted, one staring at that table for a second too long, another seeming lost in thought for a couple of seconds, a longer than normal pause in a sentence. They see a vision, a glimpse of a life that is not their own. Not all at once, but here and there as the train descends to the island.

But then it is gone and things are back to normal. Just in time, as they come to land.

Jema’grethy Island

The train has landed on a grassy ridge, overlooking a beautiful beach of white sand and the ocean beyond. It is warm, but not too hot, a cool ocean breeze cutting through the heat making it pleasant. Behind them is a grassy plain, changing to forest in the distance. There is the sound of birdsong in the purple sky. To the west the land is more craggy, the silhouette of a fortress in the distance. In a word, it is idylic. A sense of peace permeates the island.

A little more worrying is the volcano-like structure in the north. But even a quick glance will show it is not a typical volcano. There is no smoke and the liquid slowly running down it in rivulets is pink and blue.

Exploring the passengers will find beautiful beaches, ragged cliffs to walk and caves to explore. Where it is more craggy the beaches are made of pebbles- perfect for rock pooling.

The place has no people, but it is clearly maintained. The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.

Ruins of ancient houses are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.

There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.

Hot Springs

To the west are the hot springs. They have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.

Perfect for overly stressed, world weary Void heroes...

More the latter than anything. They could punch armor with no more ill effect than swinging a sword at it, or shooting it.

Well let me know if you ever figure out what it would do to my powers and immortality. Sounds like a bunch of convoluted rules.

Nothing about the immortality, I'd figure. Your powers would just get equalized under the system, but you don't use them to attack anyway so it's not like you'd even notice.

[Hey look, Zetta is actually acknowledging her position!]

[springforth]

[Well she likes to have the option of defending herself but he has a point. And maybe it would help control her outbursts of anger and power? She twists a tie from her dress in her hands, twirl, untwirl]

I'll think about it. No promises.

[She's treating this pretty seriously -- and then Zetta realizes why.]

For the record you... don't have to STAY in the party, it's an in-and-out thing if you want.

[springforth]

Oh. OH. [She drops her hands to her lap, not exactly annoyed but feeling pretty darn silly] Well then fine, sure. Why not?

Hyaaaaha ha ha ha ha! Welcome, guest party member!

[It... barely feels different? Sort of like a change in atmospheric pressure, on a minor scale.]

[springforth]

This is, in fact, completely underwhelming, you know.

[She raises an eyebrow]

I didn't say it was going to be some huge thing... [He'd just had a little fun with the implications.] But if we were in a real fight, you'd sure appreciate it.

[springforth]

Unlikely, given we're never on the same team. Unless, I tag along on your mission. Or something attacks the train.

[About to respond with ego and irritation, Zetta instead pauses, reflecting upon the lesson of six seconds or so.]

To be clear, I don't think anything we've encountered has been a REAL fight.

[springforth]

Well certainly nothing I've encountered. Or I would have had to actually do something and not just play defense. [Half smile]

[See, this is why he likes her.] Ha, damn straight. So you wanna drive this thing?

[springforth]

[Persephone bounces up and claps] Yes! Scoot over, my turn!

[badassfreakingoverlord]

[The truck screeches to a halt, and the minion in the driver's seat vaults out of the window. A moment later, he comes right back in the passenger side, scooting them all over a place to put her in position!]

[springforth]

[Persephone scoots, as prodded to and bounces in the seat, taking in all the various knobs and pedals. Right. This can't be hard, she's done it before.]

I'm guessing that despite it not actually needing gas, it works the same way as any other, right?

Yup, roll with that.

[It'd work just fine that way for her.]

[springforth]

[There's a lurching false start as her foot slips off the gas pedal but she scoots forward an inch or two and gets it going at a pretty sedate pace. It's been months, one must walk before run and blah blah]

[Zetta nearly manages to fall over, but because this is Persephone, he doesn't voice a word of complaint. In fact, after he rights himself, he immediately regrets it. He could've contrived to fall over on her leg!]

How'd you pick up driving when you're a goddess and all that implies?

[springforth]

We have cars in our realms. I could ask the same of how a demon learned to drive.

[She veers left to avoid a bird. Poor bird's never seen a truck before]

But I read about how to do it and then when my friend offered to drive me home, I tricked him into letting me drive. He got all upset later when I didn't have a license.

Oh, someone's secretly a bad girl. [Obviously, Zetta approves. Heck, that level of mischief is more than he'd expected from her, and he likes it!] The Netherworld is chock full of vehicles, so it shouldn't be too strange to see me in one.

[springforth]

I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass me by! And he had a lot of fancy cars.

[Persesphone grins] Goddesses have to get places. And I only figured out I could fly a week or two before I got here. Wasn't going to live in the mortal world with wagons and carts all my life.

[badassfreakingoverlord]

Hold on, you JUST figured out flying? Is that just -- how does it even --

[Zetta degenerates quickly into confused noises as he tries to work this all out. How do you have the ability to fly and not know? How do you not know you can fly and then find out?]

[springforth]

Hey don't--I'm young! I'm still figuring out my powers and their reach!

[She huffs, glancing over at him and then quickly back at the beach before her when she realizes her mistake]

I wanted to learn how to disguise myself but I never got that far. I'm probably powerful enough to do it and it'd be a huge help with all the human based missions. But--I mean, it's probably cliche but my powers do weird things when my emotions run high, not always in my control. So that's how I learned to fly.

[badassfreakingoverlord]

Disguise yourself to look like an ordinary human, you mean?

[Zetta faintly disapproves! 'Sephe is fine the way she is! Screw subtlety!]

Anyway, that just means you're not really comfortable with your emotions.
