Fierce New World- Mission Start!

"Good Morning passengers. Today is day six of the month of Jelly." The voice echoes through the train as passengers wake up in their beds. Not long afterwards their SCA’s glow with the colour of the void and a holographic image will appear.

Preparation and Arrival

They have a short time to prepare for their mission, enough time to read their briefs, make decisions, meet in their teams and gather anything they may need.

A few hours later there is another announcement. "Shortly arriving on System #2207385. All passengers get ready to disembark. Next stop world #2207385. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

The train judders as it leaves the void, the colours from the windows turn into the blackness of space but quickly white as the train descends into the entrance of the biosphere.

The doors of the train open and passengers can enter the large white-walled holding bay. Currently, they are the only vehicle inside. There are four large doors around the bay each labelled with where they lead. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

The doors open easily, and their SCA’s show a basic route, though the non-linear nature of the sectors mean that obstacles will need to be navigated. While they are in a closed world, there is a day and night cycle: the panels far up above are designed to make it seem like there is a natural sky, brightening and dimming every ten hours.

Red/Summer

Empty Streets

Wide streets divide sealed-off factories and manufacturing pods that tower up towards the ‘sky’. It is hot here, though the fumes from the factories are vented out, leaving the air breathable if overly warm.

Sometimes the pods are not yet finished, empty shells that can be sheltered in. There are also stations for living, with plumbing and basic amenities scattered through the sector. Places to rest as they move towards the center and the Great-Summer that they seek.

Helpmates

Where factories are still being built they will find Helpmates, operating machinery or moving materials.

They will not pause in their tasks for long but are programmed to answer questions so can be drawn into a conversation. Or, if the Voidtreckers are unfortunate, they will find those that are malfunctioning turning on them as they approach.

They aren’t too difficult to fight, but can do some damage with the machinery if they manage to take a Voidtrecker by surprise. They can be fought with weapons or magic, or for those that think to use the panels they can be shut down outright.

Wild Weather

Though warm, the corridors remain a constant temperature that is not too unpleasant for people. For the most part. Unfortunately, due to the malfunctioning state of things routes may become impassable. Boiling air, freezing blasts, electricity crackling across a pathway.

Their SCA’s do a good job of warning them, allowing them to change direction or shelter in nearby buildings.

Purple/Autumn

Exploring

The Autumn sector is the least complete of the sectors, with shells of habitation pods and not much else. No one is expected to live here until nearing the end of construction, and so the pods are unfurnished, many missing doors, some missing internal walls.

Outside the streets are wide and clearly made to be pleasant to walk on; it is airy, bright and spacious, if a bit eerie due to the quiet.

There are panels on the walls, to call Helpmates to appear. Here they are primarily for helping citizens, giving directions and offering aid.

Malfunctions

Since there are more helpmates there is more risk of them malfunctioning. They attack with or without weapons, using any tools they can pick up to attack. They can be fought with weapons or magic, or for those that think to use the panels they can be shut down.

They won’t chase people into the houses, their privacy programming preventing them from doing so.

Turned Around

The roads seem simple, built in a grid pattern around the houses. However, whatever is going wrong here is affecting the very streets themselves. Sometimes there will be a wall where there wasn’t before or roads go in circles. Sometimes they find themselves at a dead end, trapped until structures shift again.

Their SCA’s do their best to keep up but it can take a while for them to reroute and by the time they do, that path might be blocked too!

Blue/Spring

Patchwork Forest

The Spring sector houses the hydroponics and pastoral sections. It alternates between grazing land and more heavily forested areas with rows of pine-like trees in a checkerboard pattern, with empty plots interspersed. Walkways divide each square, but all squares appear able to move about as required, as though on a conveyor system.

There are clear walkways to avoid stepping on any newly growing plants. In the grazing land live flocks of camelid creatures resembling alpacas with blueish wool, on average a metre and a half tall at the shoulders. Helpmates appear here as if on a timer to feed the animals and tend to plants.

Destruction

If the Helpmates here malfunction they attack anyone nearby, cause havoc to any farming equipment and frightening the animals.

They can be fought with weapons or magic, or for those that think to use the panels they can be shut down. The panels here are less obvious than they are in the more urban sectors, low to the ground, looking almost like energy panels. But once they know what to look for they will be able to use them to shut down the Helpmates.

Stampede

Frightened animals are likely to flee and unfortunately in this case it means rampaging across the grazing land to the newly growing trees.

They will need to be calmed, returned to their grazing lands and the plants restored. Or it might be that the Voidtreckers can stop the Helpmates before the creatures get too spooked.

Orange/Winter

Exploring

The Winter sector’s primary concern is life support. Huge banks of air scrubbers form artificial cliffs, while other sections are tanks filled with water in varying stages of processing or recycling.

The paths here are a lot narrower than they are in other areas, sometimes requiring moving between pipes or scrambling over layers of railing.

There doesn’t seem to be any easy or straightforward path through the sector, their SCA takes them on wild winding routes through the machinery.

Help or Hindrance

The fluctuating temperatures here are causing problems with many of the pipes, several sections are flooded, others are in danger of being so.

There are patch kits in easily opened panels, designed to be used by the helpmates and indeed there are many helpmates out.

But some are less helpful, those that are malfunctioning are more likely to cause more damage than they are there to fix. They will attack any one who tries to interfere with them. They can be fought with weapons or magic, or for those that think to use the panels they can be shut down.

Patch Job

Once the malfunctioning Helpmates are dealt with the pipes still need to be fixed. The patch kits do not have any instructions but are simple enough that anyone with a basic knowledge of how to fix things should be able to figure them out- though the more knowledge and expertise they have the better the fix!

For those that don’t, many of the jobs will need more than one person and so for those that don’t mind taking instructions they will find an extra pair of hands is always welcome.

MAYBE HE COULD IF THE FUTURE WASN'T SO FREAKY.

Because seriously, what's good about this? Or even useful? This is more just something out of a straight up nightmare. In fact, the only good thing may be that the Helpmate isn't anymore dangerous than this, because then they sure would have been in trouble by now.

Seeing it trying to grab Tidus's sword like that, Inigo reaches out with his hand that isn't holding his own sword, trying to grab a hold of the being and pull it backwards before it can get a grip on the blade-- but it's so weird. Just trying to touch it feels weird! UGH, HE'S.. HE'S TRYING, OKAY.

At least it does somewhat seem to work, drawing the hologram back before it can touch Tidus's sword, but Inigo looks super grossed out by it - waving his hand quickly up and down, as if to get rid of the odd feeling.
blitzcheer: (nO)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-15 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Out of all the options Inigo had to choose from, reaching to manhandle the hologram was the one he chose.

Luckily, the artificial being is absolutely useless in responding to Tidus even without the gentle efforts of one (1) Prince of Ylisse to keep it down. Tidus jabs the blade in once more, and the entire thing blinks, gone from view - the only sounds coming from the beeping of the panel behind them.

Tidus draws back his sword, swings around, and stomps the few steps over to the screen. Thoughts muddled and a finger jabbing at a message displayed but unable to make it disappear, it only takes a few seconds --

"Arrgh!"

-- for Tidus to get fed up and slash diagonally at it, wall and all, a sputter and pop as the panel breaks. Goes dark.

and quiet, too.
flatteries: (you look like you've been)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-16 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Inigo isn't even paying attention to the beeping. Instead he's just staring at the spot where the Helpmate-like thing disappeared, like he's not quite sure what just happened. Like a baby who hasn't quite mastered the art of object permanence, though in Inigo's case it may be more like technology permanence. Did they just kill it? Was that thing even alive? It sounded like it was trying to talk, but--

Another sound draws his attention.

When he turns around to look at its source, all Inigo can see is Tidus just standing there. Sword out. In front of an obviously slashed wall.

".. Tidus, you broke it!"

A genius conclusion, thanks.

But look, Inigo got why they had to take care of the Helpmate, at least. But breaking the whole panel?!
blitzcheer: (time to nag nag nag)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-16 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I stopped it from going crazy! What if it came back?"

Please don't talk about his efforts as if they were a bad thing, look! No more psycho holographic thingy coming after them anymore! Which Tidus is darting looks around them to happen, but without anything appearing, he relaxes the grip on his sword.

"It's not my fault it lost it!"

Please!! He's not taking this from the guy that killed twenty bears!
flatteries: (nobody here is perfectly fine)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-17 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Inigo wouldn't take this bear slayer slander if it wasn't in narration!

But it is, which is why he instead focuses on what Tidus is saying. Thinking about it, considering how much of a hard time Inigo has trying to understand any of the technology here. Would it have come back if Tidus hadn't broken the panel?

He has no idea. And since he has no idea, Inigo decides it's more fair to let Tidus off the hook for this one, trusting the other to - at least marginally - know more what he's doing here than Inigo is.

A frown appears on his face as he steps over towards the other.

"Why was it acting like that in the first place? Its form was so strange.. I've never seen anything like it before."
blitzcheer: (get rid of dad)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-17 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Tidus wouldn't take this hit to his intelligence if it wasn't solely in narration so lightly either!! But lucky for Inigo, he's keeping safely away from the volume of Tidus's voice growing any louder as he chooses being reasonable (that is, trusting in him!) over arguing.

Not that the actual question he asks gets more a noise of 'I'unno' following actual words, which aren't more helpful.

"It thinks I'm an intruder? Or it's just broken." At least Tidus doesn't sound that concerned. "Whatever it was, if another shows up, just whack it again! You can't reason with a computer once it goes screwy. You got to whack it a few times or shut it down."

Tidus: Very patient with technology.
flatteries: (you can be king again)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-18 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Somehow this feels like the kind of thing he should be protesting. Is that really how people handle modern technology in the future? It sounds barbaric.. Which might not mean much coming from a guy who slaughters bears for food, but. You know.

On the other hand, he knows he doesn't have much of a leg to stand on here, so Inigo just says, "Uh-huh."

Sure. Whatever. He'll hit it if another one of those creepy things ends up near them! But..

"Is that the reason we're here? Just to deal with those things? I wouldn't really call them a threat." Just weird.
blitzcheer: (bliiitz?)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-18 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think so... Unless they got inside the tech and they're affecting everything." Like a data...virus?! But as soon as he says it, Tidus is already scoffing at his own idea. "Sounds like the plot for a movie on the train."

So nahh, that can't be it, can it? Tidus shakes his head, looking over at Inigo after.

"But we better watch out. If they're gonna attack us, they might pop out while we look for the real trouble."
flatteries: (but i have seen the same)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-19 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"It should be fine as long as we're together. That thing mostly had the element of surprise on us. It didn't seem that strong." Since it did end up relatively easily dispatched compared to other things they've fought before - though probably even moreso if Inigo had been freaking a bit less, huh.

Though he frowns a little as he thinks on, looking around them.

"Unless there's bigger or stronger ones out there. I have no idea if they'd all look exactly like that."

After all, what does Inigo know about anything technology-related? He wouldn't even grasp the concept of a virus. He's just trying to think of them as Risen-Helpmates or something.

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-24 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Transforming enemies?" Inigo didn't exactly spell it that way, but now that the idea is in Tidus's brain, the thought of those things shifting into different types of foes is...

"If they can do that, they better have other stuff around we can use!" Anything-- this sector was looking like an unfinished model of what a city should be, and Tidus walks a short distance, hands coming to rest on his waist. But that thought hasn't long formed when a better one pops to mind.

"We can practice some moves on them!" Yeah! "Get some training in! No better time than a mission!"
flatteries: (and lay beside this mess)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-24 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
...

You know what? That actually is a great thought. Tidus is clearly in charge of the two braincells today, because Inigo gives him a surprised look that soon even has some awe sneak in at how good that idea is.

If everything else they do here feels kind of useless, then why don't they turn it into something useful? Brilliant!

"Tidus, you're right!" Wow, who ever thought he'd speak those words out loud.. Truly a leap for mankind. "Do you think I should maybe practice some magic while I have the chance?"

He ran away last time, but maybe he can do it in front of Tidus this time. M-Maybe!
blitzcheer: (know what that means?)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-24 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah!" He says it like it's the most obvious conclusion, but supportive too. "And you can try learning moves with Jumblie! Roland doesn't have anything in that book of his? Then you two can come up with a move yourself."

Aha! He swings out his hand, mimicking the gesture of wielding a sword that's no longer there.

"How about a blinding swipe that stuns the person you hit!"

Or at the very least blinds them. Which is a good way of stunning someone.
flatteries: (somebody said that life isn't fair)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-24 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"That sounds like a useful move.. And I've seen something like it before."

With Reno, obviously. Though Inigo either doesn't want to mention it out loud, since the memory is too painful, or he thinks it's obvious enough just exactly who he saw using stunning moves before. But the point itself is still important enough that he feels the need to mention it - because it sure is a lot easier to teach yourself something when you've seen an example, rather than attempting to do it from theory alone.

Though he still seems a little thoughtful about this, his head lightly tilting sideways. Not rejecting the idea, really, but.. "Do you really think you can just come up with those moves? I thought that book Roland had was.. official. Or something like that."

Like those were The Only Higgledy Spells Ever or something.
blitzcheer: (whatcha gonna do about iiitt)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-27 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Why let Reno live in your head rent free when Tidus has a cool delay move too, Inigo?! Reno isn't the guy that Tidus's mind is on with the idea, favouring those type of moves for himself. Taking Inigo's uncertainty and answering optimistically.

"Well, a spell like that could be in the book, right? Roland just doesn't know how to do the spell himself. Anyway," he continues, "who's going to stop you? If it works..." ah! "The way Gibbs does it with me, is the sword's already all water. So what if you could get something Jumblie could go inside in? Like a stone, or..."

What's some fancy weaponry mumbo jumbo? Oh right- Tidus snaps his fingers.

"Lea! He knows about weaponry. Or there was that kid in the library talking about it."
flatteries: (and some just won't)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-28 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe since all he ever sees you do is cast haste and water spells, my dude!! Whereas the encounter with Reno is truly burned onto Inigo's mind in the worst way possible, so of course that's where his thoughts go first.

But at least they move away from that when Tidus talks on. About how Gibbs does it with him. And while Tidus is immediately thinking of people who know about weapons, it's not as if Inigo doesn't know about those too! So he combs through his own brain, thinking about it.

"Well, if Gibbs can go into a sword, Jumblie should be able to do the same, right?" They're both higgledies, after all. "The problem is that my sword is just metal."

And he's not sure how well that and light go together. Probably not. It's not like Jumblie could just melt together with it. But--

"We have lightning swords back home. I usually didn't use them, since I'm not that great with magic, but aren't lightning and light close enough that Jumblie should be able to jump into that?"
blitzcheer: (hand onnnn HIP!!!!)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-29 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe!" Tidus offers about as helpfully as a guy can, hands even lifting up in the shrug of how much confidence he has in that possibility. He's no expert!

"Are you gonna buy one?" But he catches onto that, if that's where that question was leading. They did have that option now on the train shop - even if it was ridiculously pricey. "You might wanna ask someone who knows about that stuff before me. I just happen to have a water sword."

He got lucky!
flatteries: (and the literature on how to lose)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-29 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's not like it can hurt, right? I've got the points." And maybe it'd be good to have a secondary weapon on him - in case something would ever happen to that good old sword he stole accidentally took along from that other world. Although it might not be as effective as that sword if he can't get Jumblie working with it.

Inigo shrugs a little.

"Worse case scenario, it doesn't work, and maybe I can find someone who really needs a weapon and can actually use that one to give it to." He's not going to let it go to waste either way when weapons definitely are pricey.
blitzcheer: (whoa woah hey heyyy)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-30 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure," Tidus agrees without any hesitation. It wasn't a bad idea, and even if the sword didn't work for what they were talking about, would the lightning really not work for Inigo just because he says it doesn't? But questions and thoughts on Inigo's lack of confidence towards anything magical is put aside with a far more important idea.

"And if you're going to buy yourself a weapon for missions, you can buy yourself somethin' nice too. How about a dancing outfit? Or more dancing books?"

It's that time again: Operation Get Inigo To Treat Himself! (on actual hobbies because swords don't count!)
flatteries: (everyone's scared someone knows)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-30 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah.

Somehow they've arrived here again. That seems to be the exact thought going through Inigo's mind as well, considering the look he gives Tidus when the other brings this up again. He only barely manages to surpress looking stupidly flustered at the words dancing outfit. He's close though.

"How is a weapon not something nice for myself?"

Hey, it would have been worth its weight in gold back home in the zombie-dragon apocalypse, okay. Especially when you consider how quickly weapons break over in Fire Emblem land.

And there's no ways Inigo knows in which to treat himself other than the practical way, alright!
blitzcheer: (wibbly wobbly)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-30 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"But that's for missions," Tidus points out. "Like I said! One week out of five, then what are you supposed to do? --Training doesn't count."

Because he's getting that out the second he realises where that can go. No no no, no easy answers for you here, Inigo! With Tidus already attempting to think of purchases with a loud hum.

"Hmmm, what can you get for dancing? Props?" Ah, he lazily waves out a hand in a slender motion. "Do you ever twirl things around?"
flatteries: (inside your head)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-31 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
You know, Inigo could just quit this conversation. Just walk away, find somewhere else to go.

And yet here he is. Not doing that. Because Tidus just has that much power over him, apparently, that Inigo won't even olly out of a conversation he absolutely doesn't want to have, since the idea of treating himself makes him near break out in hives.

"Not really. There are weapons for dancers though." But he's never used them. After all, if he doesn't dare to dance in front of even one person, how would he ever dare to dance in battle? "Dancing is more about.." His cheeks glow red. ".. about the outfits, I guess."
blitzcheer: (remember to smile)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-31 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
bro you could never ditch your bro

Tidus would ask what a weapon for a dancer would even be (can't they just use a sword too? Is there something special about fighting and dancing??), but oh, no - not when his pal sounds like that about the outfits. He can hear the fluster at the attention speaking about the wardrobe gets. How can his focus be anywhere else?

"Then get some clothes!" He urges, voice hushed, knocking shoulders with Inigo. "You can buy whatever now! How much do they cost? Not as much as a weapon." So therefore, totally okay! "There different types of outfits? Would you have to go...Ylisse dancing clothes?"

You know, for words to be typed into a train store shop for future purchase.
flatteries: (all good things must end)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-31 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't call him out on it, bro!!

On being unable to ditch Tidus, that is. But actually, on second thought, also don't call him out about this whole dancer's clothes thing. It helps that there's absolutely no one else around in this part of this odd world they're traversing, but Inigo doesn't even want it to cross Tidus's mind.

So that shoulder knocking? It's happening right in return, though Inigo's face is much redder than Tidus's own as he does it.

"Why do you want me to get those clothes so badly, huh?! Do you want to see me with less clothes on? See my skin and my tight muscles?!"
blitzcheer: (awww yeah babeyyy)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-01-31 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey!" It's a mild protest, a defence, hand shaking off the accusation at Inigo. Let's not get carried away there, buddy!!

"I don't know how much you guys wear! I was just thinking you'd like it - have a piece of home, and somethin' you like for dancing! I'd buy my sports uniform, but it's totally useless without a sphere pool. You could get in the groove with your own dance outfit - feel even more like a determined dancer!"

Right? Something inspiring, meaningful, and Tidus even speaks passionate towards the end. Can't make Tidus ditch this well-meaning suggestion with those gay implications, he's a lot stronger than that!!
flatteries: (i etched a face of a stopwatch)

[personal profile] flatteries 2021-01-31 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
These gay accusations are just whipping right around to slap Inigo in the face instead. Because Tidus is bringing up his own sports uniform, and Inigo.. well, he can't help but be a little curious. How it'd look to see Tidus in something like that in person. Would he look good in it?

.. By Naga, this is SO NOT the time to contemplate that. The conversation is already awkward enough! Go away, gay thoughts!

"It's different though! You're so confident in your abilities. Wearing something like that probably comes natural to you." And Inigo has only just enough courage to dance on the train when he's sure no one is watching, let alone go further than that.

He stares at his feet now, rather than over at Tidus. "And I'd just look ridiculous instead. I don't even deserve to wear something like that."
