Dawn Attack

It's been a busy few days of fighting demons, attacking keystones and fighting both on the demon and human planes. On the morning of day nine of the month of Kazoo a gate opens close to the base camp that the two teams have made.

It seems the demons have decided to focus on this unexpected threat, because it is a sizable force, with a number of the large demons. They march towards the camp with single-minded focus, the opportunity to stop these unwanted defenders taking precedence over their desire to destroy the city.

The advantage to the landscape being as ruined as it is, is that there isn't much to stop the lookouts from seeing this force headed towards them. A gate opening is not subtle. There should be enough time to make sure the defenders are ready.

Scouting Ahead

Once that skirmish is won those on the Red team will find their SCA's beeping, with an exclamation point far out to the east.

A group of demons is congregating at the location indicated. Investigate why, defeat the demons and close any gates nearby.

It will take a while to get there and there is plenty to do on the way for those that follow the exclamation point. Roaming packs of demons, gates to be closed. Exhausting work, especially for those going in and out of the demon gates.

Protecting the City

Once it is clear that these defenders are not going to be easy to wipe out, the attacks on the city itself get more frequent. The demons have changed tactics: rather than sending in large groups they open many small portals, sending small strike teams to harry and target individuals.

Some of the attacks are clearly meant as traps: they open the gates in or very close to the city, to lure the Voidtreckers in to where they will be affected by the spell. Ranged attacks may be useful here.

"I don't know about that, but I haven't had to fight like this maybe...ever!" Demyx said, looking a little bit like he was dragging even though he was just sitting there. He ran a hand down his face.

"Last mission wasn't like this at all." He mused. "I'm not sure I'm suited for anything else though." Orange shirt aside, he didn't feel like he fit into that team. They all seemed much smarter than him.

[ If they had any more time, if this mission wasn't as wild as it is, Inigo would have insisted that no, he does care to question it, even if Roland doesn't. Because he's not sure he likes the implications of Roland of all people being able to go into that other demon world and feel fine, when he's heard the stories from the red team about what it's like in there.

But it's a lower priority kind of thing right now. Which is saying a lot about this mission, since it's still something that's making the boy's heart absolutely race with worry, all by itself.

But it's not his main worry, so it's not what he starts about. ]

You'll still have to deal with all the demons in there! [ He starts to protest. ] You don't know what could happen in there! And no one can help you if you're by yourself-- what if you can't even communicate over the SCA from in there?

[ Inigo isn't even bothering to try and seem calm and serious. There's nothing about him that suggests he's got it all together. Instead there's only worry for the man standing in front of him visible in his eyes. ]

What if something happens to you? You're our leader.

[ You're my father. ]

"Something else to kill when I get the chance?"

Someone did not appreciate being repeatedly kidnapped.

"As I am one of its defenders, that would be... ill advised. For you."

"Why would you defend something that steals people? Does it take kids? The last place I was stuck took kids. Kids who'd already been through enough."

Beetlejuice tilted his head at an unnatural angle. "Short stack, I don't recommend going toe-to-toe with me."

"It doesn't seem to be capable of speech with that beeping. But if it's not from the demons, then where did it come from? Certainly not from anyone we know?" She's not completely convinced that it's not on the side of the demons, but it doesn't appear to be hostile for now.

Willow marches over to the rucksack and gives the bot a glare, tapping it with the flat side of the knife. "Quit that you, don't you know better than to take what is not yours?"

"Don't be so hasty."

He holds up a hand, no longer glowing, then reaches into one of his pockets for the atmospheric reader he got from Siebren.

"This isn't the first time someone has found something here that doesn't seem to belong to this world. Perhaps it recognizes the supplies of a Void traveler."

Satisfied that the robot didn't seem to be aggressive, he dismisses his Float spell and crouches down to show the device to the robot.

There's a blur and then a crunch, a baseball bat meeting the demon's side. Casper brings the bat down on the demon's wrist, forcing it to drop the whip out of pain. His hand forms into a fist and blisters of frost start appearing on its side. It screams in pain and is immediately silenced by hands on its throat. It flails, clawing at Casper, but he doesn't seem to care at the moment.

He doesn't speak, only twists. There's a horrible snap and a muffled scream before the demon stills. Casper drops the body so it can return to dust and nothing before turning to help up Tidus. He taps his leg with his bat and the weapon disappears. His hand glows with a minor healing spell that should close up scrapes and bruises as he gently pulls the other to his feet.

"... You okay?"

It's definitely enough for Trunks to close the distance. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he slides in with his sword flashing. Powered up by his transformation, and ki flowing along and through his blade, he manages to take out the demon. Turning it into smaller bits and pieces.

So, fine. Relatively speaking. He chuckled and nudged him with his foot. "If you're going to flop down dramatically maybe you should pull out a sleeping bag for your fainting couch, your royal pain-in-the-hind-ass."

"Ha!" Prompto chuckled, though he looked no less exhausted. "That's plebe pain-in-the-hind-ass to you! I'm not royal anything." He snickered. Most people wouldn't object to that part, but hey his life was surreal.

Dukemon uses his shield to push away a group of demons, then moves in to finish them with his lance.

Then, and only then, he drops down to one knee as he catches his breath.

"There are so many," he says. Deep inside his consciousness, both Takato and Guilmon were feeling worn down. Not injured. Dukemon's armor had seen to it that they were protected in that much. But it had been a very long time since they had fought like this so long. And even in the fight against the D-Reaper there had been long breaks for regrouping.

"IF you have an ideas. I'm not sure if this is a trap or not. Got caught once, don't want that to happen again." Trunks gives a half-smirk to Allen. "They bit off more than they could handle with me, but I'd rather not chance them getting smarter."

"I can try and break their charge by dive-bombing it." Trunks responded. "I can probably take down a a few too. Alternatively, I could try for large blasts of ki to tear apart the groups. It'll tear up the ground too though, and we don't want any of our guys close to it."

"Somehow that figures." Danny twists around in midair and blasts another demon that had been sneaking up from behind. "And here I was almost starting to get use to actually getting a full nights sleep."

Casper nods and unwraps the rope, tossing it into his hammerspace. "Do you need any healing?" He can do a little, at least. Best to check in where he can.

Ryo doesn't know the first thing about robots and even he knows that whacking a strange creature with a weapon may not be the best idea. He finally steps into the tent, letting the flap close behind him. "Willow, can you stand with me, please?" He's not nervous so much as he is trying to get her out of arm's reach of the robot. Vexen seems like he can handle it.

Whatever it is.

"In my world, especially, they come out a night." Prompto informed him with a bit of a smile. "If we're not at a haven they have no problem attacking us.."

He fired on a pair of demons with his handgun, he wishes they'd go down from one shot but these things are hearty.

"Yeah, yeah." He pokes Prompto in the side gently. "You okay though, for real?"

Panic on the Mission

Raven has been mostly on defense on the camp. She feels better with some rest, but is still aware she's on edge. She's already lost her temper once....

Timcampy was very noticeable though, so Raven moved to follow the golem. Something was wrong.

"Yeah, I'm pretty fine." Prompto said. "Something about that place just kinda sucks up all your strength, you know?"

He exhaled. "Besides, I only took a couple of bumps from demons, I mostly stay out of the fray anyway."

Brief Rest

The dawn attack had been surprising. Raven had managed to get some sleep, thanks to her awareness that Soldat was there. She trusted him, and he promised he'd take care of her. But the attack had still been draining, and Raven knew if she wasn't going to sleep well, she needed to eat well.

She's headed for that, when she notices 47's SCA beeping. "What's going on?" She asks--she's guesting on Red, but that doesn't mean she got the alert.

Scouting Ahead

"You shouldn't go alone." Raven pointed out, and volunteered to go with Danny. They probably weren't alone in wanting to scout ahead, but more support would be good. "And I've got some supplies with me." Not a lot, since they were in her backpack, but it would help.

It is, luckily for Otoha. It and Sarge filled them in on what they were supposed to be doing, so they at least managed to complete the patrol, and it's a more familiar expression of subtle chagrin that Otoha sees on their face as they meet up again. "Sorry about that," they say. They really are more casual than the Asset, not that that's saying all that much.
