The Will to Fight: Ongoing: Red and Purple

Dawn Attack

It's been a busy few days of fighting demons, attacking keystones and fighting both on the demon and human planes. On the morning of day nine of the month of Kazoo a gate opens close to the base camp that the two teams have made.

It seems the demons have decided to focus on this unexpected threat, because it is a sizable force, with a number of the large demons. They march towards the camp with single-minded focus, the opportunity to stop these unwanted defenders taking precedence over their desire to destroy the city.

The advantage to the landscape being as ruined as it is, is that there isn't much to stop the lookouts from seeing this force headed towards them. A gate opening is not subtle. There should be enough time to make sure the defenders are ready.

Scouting Ahead

Once that skirmish is won those on the Red team will find their SCA's beeping, with an exclamation point far out to the east.

A group of demons is congregating at the location indicated. Investigate why, defeat the demons and close any gates nearby.

It will take a while to get there and there is plenty to do on the way for those that follow the exclamation point. Roaming packs of demons, gates to be closed. Exhausting work, especially for those going in and out of the demon gates.

Protecting the City

Once it is clear that these defenders are not going to be easy to wipe out, the attacks on the city itself get more frequent. The demons have changed tactics: rather than sending in large groups they open many small portals, sending small strike teams to harry and target individuals.

Some of the attacks are clearly meant as traps: they open the gates in or very close to the city, to lure the Voidtreckers in to where they will be affected by the spell. Ranged attacks may be useful here.

"I don't know about that, but I haven't had to fight like this maybe...ever!" Demyx said, looking a little bit like he was dragging even though he was just sitting there. He ran a hand down his face.

"Last mission wasn't like this at all." He mused. "I'm not sure I'm suited for anything else though." Orange shirt aside, he didn't feel like he fit into that team. They all seemed much smarter than him.

"It's interesting how different they are. In a way it is good...but it also makes it hard to know what to expect." At least they will never get bored since they won't know exactly what to expect the next time they stop at a strange place.

"But it does seem like every world requires fighting of some sort." Which is quite sad.

"Yeah, seems that way, maybe." Demyx agreed. "Oh, not that winter carnival thing. That didn't need any fighting."

Well it didn't need any, but he'd been tempted.

"That is true. That one was quite nice." Very nice actually...not that he would ever admit to why. But at least that world seemed peaceful. So at least there is some places out there that haven't succumbed to war.

"Perhaps the next one will be nice as well." THey are going to need a break.

"I hope so, but I don't really know. I haven't been on the train that long. The winter thing was the first thing I went to." Demyx admitted. So this was his second mission and it was exhausting!

"Well hopefully we only have a few more days of this and then we can sleep until the next one." He smiles, hoping that might be the case and that this difficult journey is almost over. He knows that his body has gotten weaker since the winter festival and this is simply proving it. He is going to have to start doing more to get stronger.

"Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. Can't wait!" Demyx smiled, he could nap in the music room all day if he wanted to, like he was an overgrown Nobody-shaped cat.

He points towards where another portal has opened up. "Looks like our rest period has finished." He pushes himself up to his feet slowly. At least the day is getting late and pretty soon they will be able to head back.

"Ugh." Demyx groaned, but he got up. "Unless you want to head back to camp and avoid these guys."

He did, really, but he'd fight them if he had to.

Xie Lian is low on spiritual energy and he is painfully aware that his body is going to wear out soon is he doesn't get a chance to regain some.

"I think going back and getting some rest and food in us might be a smarter move."

"Okay, then let's get going." He could us a portal, but that wouldn't be safe for Xie Lian.

Demyx did tug on his sleeve and backed away slowly, before they got seen, at least until the point they could walk at a faster pace back towards the camp.

Xie Lian probably could handle most portals. It was the most convenient method of movement when it came to long distances. And right now a fast getaway would be useful.

"Ah..how lucky do you feel?" Because luck does play a factor in it as he pulls out the little pair of dice that Hua Cheng gave him.

"I think..." Demyx hesitated. Was he lucky? He didn't really think he was, really.

"I mean, I guess?" He wasn't sure.

He looks around for something he could potentially use as a door but there isn't much at their disposal. "A little luck is better then no luck. But we would still need something like a door. I have a way to get us to the camp quickly but it's not always a sure thing."

"Uhhh, okay? What kinds of things work like doors?" Demyx asked, looking around for his eyes to be peeled.

"Is it keyholes?" That might be a strange question...

"Well..not necessarily a key hole. Ah.." He looks back at him. "do you trust me enough to go through one of their portals?"

Might seem backwards to go rushing into the enemy to get away from it but it might actually be exactly what he needs.

He definitely did not.

"Sure!" Demyx said a little cheerfully. "I mean, it'll probably be fine, right?"

"Of course!" He sounds a little more confident then he feels and heads towards the portal. He shakes the dice like Hua Cheng has shown him, ready to use them when they reach the portal.

"This should take us right to the camp." As long as they have a little luck.

"Okay, well, here goes nothing I guess." Demyx said with a smile. He wasn't too worried, if it goes horribly wrong, what's the worst that could happen? More demons?

He could handle that if he had to.

He gives the dice a roll and doesn't even luck at them as they pass through the portal. One second they are are on the battle field, next step is the camp. Xie Lian grins as he looks down at he dice finally and notices the double sixes.

"Look like we made it."

"Hey, pretty good!" Demyx said with a bright smile. "How does that work?"

Please, Xie Lian, nothing too complicated, he wasn't that kind of guy.

"Luck." He laughs and holds them out to him. They are just a simple pair of dice to look at them.

"It's basically like a teleporting array within the dice. A different door could open depending on which number you roll."

Which means they could have possibly ended up back on the the battlefield depending on what he rolled.

"Cool." Demyx grinned. "I know a guy who uses dice and things."

Luxord wasn't around though. He'd never had that much of a problem with him, as far as Nobodies went, but they weren't friend or anything.

"Cards too."

"It's not really my trick. I was given these by a friend." Someone who wants to make sure he is always able to get back to him. He tucks the dice safely away and starts towards the tents.

"At least now we have a chance to rest and get some of our strength back before going out there again." And didn't have to fight their way through monsters to get there.

"Yeah, I'm totally beat!" Demyx exclaimed as they walked. "I'm probably gonna take a nap!"

He did so enjoy those.
