What their Eyes See: Comms

Talk to All

Talk to Team

Talk to Individual

For the third option, a list of passengers appears and names can be searched for by letter. Anyone who has been working to try and make communications happen on their own devices will find those linked in to this network- though it is still only possible to use voice. If they have headphones from the music room they can make it so they work like earpieces.

I'm fine. Are you alone? I have a message.

[ He's got a it a little vague at least for the brief moment. ]
adregem: (who knew you could look this good thinki)

I am. You're clear.

[ Vague is fine because he knows Senku has his reasons for the secrecy. Roland listens close, a finger to his earpiece. ]

Good. Anan reached out again. She gave us a rendez-vous point for tonight.

[ He smiles a little bit. ] Cancel your plans.
adregem: (consider this...)

[personal profile] adregem 2021-05-12 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A pause. ]

Good thing I didn't schedule a dinner date. [ The chuckle dies down quickly. ] Which tier?

[ Was Anan already here, waiting for later? Unless she already knew about Kamakan before they did, not needing to have landed prior to knowing the area. She probably has access to resources they didn't, after all. It's not unlikely; it's the only reason Tidus revealed the truth to her in the first place. ]
10billionpercent: (Ha Ha)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2021-05-12 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He chuckles. ]

We're your dinner date, I'm guessing. [ Roland can probably hear his smirk. ]

It said Lift 45 Southeast. [ He's assuming what that's what the abbreviation is for. ] 215A.

If we don't know where that is I can look at the map in the information centre up here.
adregem: (thanks he hates dice games now)

[personal profile] adregem 2021-05-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. How sweet. You guys paying? [ He starts walking, replying under his breath, seeing a line of people pass, giving him the stink eye. ]

[ The instructions are noted, but - ] That might be best. I've got a pretty good sense of direction but I'd rather not waste time in case I make a wrong turn.

[ And since he has Senku on the line... ] What's on your mind, chief? She's not from the ministry but better than radio silence, right? [ Pun intended. ]

10billionpercent: (This...is exhilarating)

[personal profile] 10billionpercent 2021-05-14 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sure. [ He chuckles lightly at Roland's comment, fully willing to play along, banter is something he enjoys. ]

I'll be sure to look. I've been dying to get a look at the information centre anyway. See if I can find someone who can tell me a thing or two about this place.

[ He considers Roland's request with a little sigh? ] In regards to Anan? Hm.

[ Senku has a habit of pausing when he's thinking through what he wants to say, or he's calculating something. ]

She might not be, but she might know a few things we've been dying to know. She represents another faction. Would she know if there are others? Also, maybe she can get her hands on information we can't, like books and manuals. I don't think it's a bad move to trust her a little bit, but I'm more inclined to ask for information and provide ours in drips and drabs so to speak. Oh, that does sound like I'm suggesting we use her. I don't really mean it like that. [ He lets out a sheepish chuckle. ]

I just mean we should be a little cautious just in case she really isn't safe.

Fine, fine. Guess I'll foot dessert. How's slime cake sound? [ Make it even. Then again, the joke just lands perfectly given how little actual, edible food is around these parts. How the Kamakan's subsist on it is beyond his imagination, but sustenance is sustenance. ]

[ Roland appreciates the way he thinks before he speaks. It's something he practices religiously himself, but the way Senku's mind unfolds is much sharper than anything Roland could ever think of. The silence, however long or short, is appreciated. Even his caution, in whatever spade he can grant. Roland has to unlearn being so jaded, but it helps that others more sane around him are guiding his hand, his intuition. ]

She mentioned which system she comes from, but she didn't say the name. Ended in 4711. [ Which is all he could remember from the long string of numbers she had dropped casually in conversation. ] She's eager enough to help us. She believed us right away, thanks to Tidus. [ This, he means with all the earnest belief he can muster. Roland isn't very good at connecting on that level, especially when they've only just met. ] But more than Anan...Hm. [ He would look out a window at this point in the conversation, had there been one nearby. Instead, his hand dwells on scraping the sides of the tupperware from the icing; his eyes land on a wayward box of medical supplies sitting on a sterile cabinet. ]

What if...What if the train finds out? It's been pretty clear about how much it dislikes us seeking out the ministry. [ He swivels his neck back to catch Senku's gaze. ] Not to mention Halo's warning about them. How they're trying to police the multiverse. Which worst case scenario should we be ready for?

[ Senku knows Roland's concerns aren't surface level. They never are. They have long histories trying to do right by a group of people who look to them for guidance. A part of him can't help but wonder if they're not putting the safety of the passengers at risk, but it's why it's easy to voice it out with this particular kind of guy. Senku has methods to his madness, but he's never put innocent people second to results. ]

[The joke gets a smile out of Senku but he looks more serious after that as he considers what Roland is asking, what Anan has offered.]

She could just be a very good person. [He observes with an amused twitch.] Whatever her job is, it sounds like she wants to help people too, so she could see us as someone in need and could just want to help. I believe that there are far more people who are inherently good than not, statistically. [That’s worked out for him so far, naive as it might sound, but he means it literally. It’s a numbers game.] I tentatively think we should be open to trusting her, if anything goes strange or feels off we can cut contact. [Gen wouldn’t agree, Gen would advise more caution, but Senku was the one asked.]

I’m of two minds on that. [Another small notable pause. When Senku has the time to think, he takes it.] Either the Ministry really is bad news and it’s a horrible idea to seek it out – we can even ask Anan that – or it isn’t and the train is exerting control. We don’t know everything about Halo, they may have been operating outside of the law as well, whatever that law is. But it’s definitely a point in favour of the Ministry being a poor option. Anan also didn’t immediately tell you to contact the Ministry, that lends credence to the idea.

As for worst case scenario… [Senku frowns a little bit, considering that as he taps his finger on his hip] Obviously retribution. What that would tell us, is that it is still monitoring our conversations away from the train. [He holds up his wrist. They can’t know if it’s monitoring their conversations on boards but it seems more likely.] Even the ones we don’t have over the network. At the moment, we know nothing, and if we do learn anything of interest...we’ll have to talk in person. Preferably away from the train. I intend on asking Anan as much as she’s willing to answer and if I can learn some of the things the train doesn’t want us to know, I think we should tread very very carefully with that information.

[He considers, he pauses and takes a breath.] Tactics could include, removing some of the carriages, removing things people don’t presently have on them, offering less varied food rations or not much at all. We could be offered paste like this place. I have enough bear entrails left to keep the train fed for two weeks, but that would use up all of my supplies. I’m hoping that we’re not going to be dealing with vindictiveness, or that it’s not listening when we’re off the network. There was no reaction to contacting Anan to begin with, was there?

TAKE TWO!!!

[ For the most part, the crowds do disperse around him eventually and he's left once again to his own devices. Roland leans on the wall, a collar popped to hide the earpiece he speaks from, hands deep in his pockets. Senku isn't wrong - he rarely is when he's this serious - and to his credit, alleviates some of Roland's initial concerns about Anan. He trusts her just enough, but if they're to actually collaborate...

...not to mention the idea of retribution, which doesn't tickle his fancy one bit. ]

No. Not that I speak for what the train actually knows about what we do, but it's a moot point. You're right. I just -

[ It's not even the murders he's had to try and help solve that gets him here. It's everything and nothing all at once; it's the culmination of parts and pieces he didn't think he ever had to worry about before. It's the people he's come to care about on this train; who Roland genuinely wants to see in better places. In better stories. ]

- I don't want to be sloppy about it.

[ No, that's not what he really wanted to say.

'I don't want to hurt anyone.' Roland often wonders how much of his silence can be inferred. ]

Put that genius of yours to work then, chief. Not like it ever stops working, but you get the saying. Heh.

[ He tries to shrug it off and manages it somewhat, kicking off from the surface he's been resting on this whole time. His footsteps grow faster and faster now, as if he's trying for a brisk pace. ] Thanks for indulging an old man's worries, as always.
