Day Twelve: Red and Blue (and all for reuniting)

Red: Final Instructions.

Six days since the fighting began the fighters seem to gain a sense of renowned optimism. Soon they tell each other. It has to be today. Even before dawn they are up and working, saddling horses, packing up essentials.

Just after first light, when the majority of the fighters are in the cave, Lena gathers them. “It will be today. Keep an eye on the northern sky. When you see the beacon it is time.” Her gaze moves to the strange, almost other-worldly warriors who had appeared at their time of need. “When the beacon lights the sky you get to the horses and you ride north. To Um’i’les. As hard as you can. Don’t worry about being chased. Don’t stop to fight. Just ride. This fight ends today.”

With that, slightly worrying pep talk she nods at them and activity resumes in the caves, preparing for what looks like it will be the final battle.

Blue: A choice

At first light, Kian leaves the circle of wizards and comes to speak to the small group of defenders on the tower top. “You should leave. The ritual is almost complete, we cannot guarantee your safety once the final phase begins.”

One of the other wizards, Myra also breaks from the circle. “We cannot guarantee anyone's safety if the final phase is interrupted, we need them.”

Kian glares at her and she glares back. It seems this is an old argument.

“You have done enough. There will be a very short window for escape. Once we light the beacon, we will be alright then. Please leave.” Myra looked like she was going to argue again but then just scowled and turned away.

“If this fails it is on you Kian.” Kian sighed and nodded once, face grim.

Blue: It Begins

Once Kian returns to the circle the final part of the ritual begins in earnest. Goblins continue attacking and for about an hour things continue like they have been all week. Goblin attacks, the ritual, moments of quiet, more attacks.

The low humming of the ritual intensifies and a light shoots up from the middle of the circle, cutting through the air. A beacon.

If they want to leave now is the time, but they best be quick because like moths to flames goblins rush the tower. More than before, all trying to get at the wizards, to stop whatever is about to happen.

Red: Ride. Ride Now.

The fighting is once again hard, the humans keep their eyes on the northern skies and it is mid morning that it is seen. A beacon pointing high at the sky. “Go!” The fighters all scramble, those not mounted find horses quick and begin a hard gallop. Northward.

The goblins seem surprised, some give chase, some fly towards the tower.

After about ten minutes the air begins to feel strange, like it is vibrating. Heavy, foreboding. They are no longer the only ones fleeing, all over the place animals are rushing northward. Rabbits, deer, even swarms of insects. All fleeing. Some of the goblins break off and start flying the other way, south, to where they came.

They might not notice, if they are galloping hard but the train emblems on their Safety Control Apparatus, which are usually green are flashing amber.

Blue: Thank you

Those of the Blue Team still defending the wizards they will notice the change as well. The wizards themselves begin to glow. Goblins are still assaulting the tower but when the air begins to vibrate they flee, flying off to the southern pass where they came from.

The wizards are disappearing into the light. They seem to glow and fade all at once, becoming one with the light. The train emblems are flashing ember if anyone looks down to see them. A voice rings in the air, Kian’s voice. “Thank you. Go. Now.”

There’s not much time. None at all in fact but hopefully Blue team remember their instructions and the trains last reminder. All passengers are to wear their Safety Control Apparatus and are reminded that emergency evacuation protocol is three short taps.

Three short taps on their SCA is all that is needed, a flash of light and they are stood, safe and sound in the luggage carriage of the voidtrecker express.

Red: Goblins fall

Provided they rode fast from the moment the beacon was lit about fifteen minutes later the air seems normal again. If they look back they will see the air behind them is shimmering, almost like a heatwave.

Then from the tower a pulse of energy, it drives upwards and out, a visible ripple. There’s a second. Maybe two. Anyone still in the area may notice their SCA’s flashing red now. Three short taps is all it takes to be whisked away to safety.

Because then the air ignites. Every rain drop turned fire, a blast of heat and destruction that only lasts about half a minute. But it is enough. It doesn’t damage any structures, not the tower that you can see, not the couple of homesteads.

It kills goblins though. Wolves too. In fact anything living in the area is destroyed, turning to dust.

They are quite far away but they will still hear and see the smoke of an explosion from the southern pass. A gateway destroyed, cutting off those goblins that escaped from returning here ever again.

Any goblins that escaped northward with the fighters need to be dispatched but once they are all that is left is to ride to Um’i’les.

All teams: Reuniting

Those of Blue (and any of Red) who evacuated to the train arrive at the fortress city first. They are dropped off out of sight and it is only a short hike to the city. They are welcomed as more evacuees and taken to where the others are.

The fighters and Red team arrive late in the evening, exhausted. They are likewise taken to the halls and reunited with the rest of the city dwellers.

It is announced that there will be a feast the next evening, to honour the fallen, pay tribute to the brave and celebrate the saving of the city. But for now those of Culin’e’ai and the Voidtreckers may rest.

(OOC: Just as a note if anyone happens to die in this finale they will wake up in a suitcase on the train on day thirteen so will not be reunited in Um'i'les.

Also if you want an NPC to show up in your thread just let me know here. Likewise if your character wants to do something outside of this framework that's absolutely fine! If it's something that you feel mods should be aware of let me know here or on the event ooc post!))

"I do no be thinking..." Her voice was muffled by the cloak as she fought her way out of it. She was grateful for the warmth though, even though surely Peter was cold too. It was stupid cold. Even worse than it had been before, when they were the other side of the portal.

"I do no be thinking they do be understanding you." She had thought about it a lot. She could understand the goblins easily but when they spoke to them it was in curt one word sentences like they didn't expect them to understand. They had ignored all of Peter's talking, which was fair. But also hadn't reacted in anger when she had insulted them.

How they don't understand them when her and Peter understand them is beyond her but it seems like a good theory.

Yeah, okay. She might be right. He might be talking too fast for them and making too many references. Man, they really need to land on world where all his pop culture references and one-liners won't just be ignored.

"Hey! Can you understand me? I want to talk." He says a lot slower than he normally would. Or are they just ignoring him? If that's the case they really need to learn some manners.

"Hey, Buttercup, back up." He tells her before approaching the bars and rolls his eyes before grabbing hold and rips the bars right out. "Did that get your attention?"

She did as she was told, backing up as he ripped the bars out. That... That was impressive. And stupid. Very stupid because now the goblin looked angry.

Very very angry and he stormed towards them. Before he had taken more than a step though there was a sound behind him and a whole load of goblins rushed past. As he was distracted she ran up to Peter and grabbed his wrist.

They had to run!

Peter was in the middle of raising his eyebrow at the goblin. Dude just saw a sixteen year old kid yank some bars out of the wall and decided to approach? His thoughts are interrupted though as there's suddenly a whole parade of goblins. He looks down at Buttercup grabs his wrist and makes the split second decision to follow.

Maybe, with all the confusion they can get back to the other side of the portal. His senses start going off worse than before though-the prickle at the back of his neck spreading quickly down and making the hairs on his arm stand on end. Something big was coming and his safety apparatus thing is blinking. That can't be good.

She ran towards the portal, still holding onto Peter in case he decided to do something stupid. As they got near they could see goblins swarming through it onto their side and then something happened, there was a strange sound and the portal seemed to wobble for a moment before shattering, exploding into light and sending a shockwave that sent her tumbling down.

There went their escape...

Peter follows after her, he finds it extremely telling that the Goblin's don't seem interested in their escape at all and it's almost hard to concentrate as his senses just seem to be getting worse and worse. The portal closes and that certainly doesn't help matters.

He's knocked to the ground from the shockwave as well as he wasn't expecting it and didn't have the time to steady himself. He's quick to get back up on his feet though and moves to get Buttercup on hers.

The light on the safety apparatus is blinking even more and he feels almost dizzy. Something really, really big and bad is coming.

"Sorry, Buttercup." He mumbles before scooping her back up and jumping up to stick to the wall. She won't stick so he's hoping she won't squirm too much while he's got a hold of her. At least the goblins can't reach them here-not that they seem particularly concerned about the spider-kid up on the wall.

"Hey, can you access the mission statement, still? I think I remember something about when the apparatus thingys blink but I can't remember what exactly it was." Also, don't pay attention to the fact he might feel quite a bit cooler than he should.

She tenses when he grabs her but she doesn't fight him, it's clear something bad is happening. Or has happened. The portal is gone and the goblins are panicking, for want of a better word. She plunges deeper into the emptiness and stays very very still as they crouched up on the wall.

"When we did be leaving the train..." She remembered, it hadn't been written on the mission statement but the voice had spoken. "It did be saying tap three times..."

Tap the watches? Maybe?

"Tap three times? Tap your heels three times? I think that only works for Dorothy." Peter says a bit distractedly as his spideysense is getting more upset by the second.

"It's gotta be the watch-that's the only thing that makes sense-sorta in a weird science-fiction kinda way. Anyways." He pulls his hand away from the wall and reaches over to tap the screen on her watch three times.

"Oh well, there's no place like home-or Void Train." He quips
knifewithnoname: (that sounds unpleasent)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2019-10-16 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Who do Dorothy be bei... No do no be answering that." They didn't have time. It probably wasn't relevant. Most of what Peter said wasn't relevant. But the watch? Tapping that might work. Before she could move though he had leaned over and tapped it.

"Be tap..." She disappeared in a flash of light.

And reappeared in the luggage compartment. Not in a suitcase, luckily. "...ping yours first."

Where was he? He better follow her or she was going to be so angry at him.

Peter jerks back a little at the light and grips onto the wall. He takes a breath and shakes his head. "I really hope that sent her back to the train." He mutters, trying to get a good look around but all he can see is swarms of goblins. He wants to explore a little more but something tells him that's a really bad idea and he's forced to let that thought go.

"Well... here it goes." He taps his watch three times and a light swallows him and he finds himself back in the luggage compartment.

"Oh god, that's so much better." He breathes out a sigh of relief and lays back on the floor. "That was-that was rough. You, okay?"
knifewithnoname: (silence)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2019-10-16 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She had to admit she was relieved when he appeared back next to her, though she told herself it was just so she didn't have to explain to Tony that he'd been lost in a goblin portal.

This way they didn't have to tell Tony they'd been in a goblin portal at all. "I do be being fine. That did be being weird, I did no be knowing the Control things did be doing that."

In many ways it had been even odder than a portal, at least then it had been like walking through a weird door. This had been being one place and then another in a second. Very strange.

"Yeah, me either." Peter admits, still laying on the floor and waves his arm uselessly before he lets it flop back on the floor.

"I feel like I need like a fifty hours nap." He states, obviously not serious. "I don't know if I've told you before but I got this like... sixth sense that warns me when there's danger and the more of a threat something is-the more intense it is and I think that was about the most intense it's ever been. Maybe." He sighs and takes in another breath before closing his eyes for a moment.

"So, here's what we're gonna say-or what you're gonna say to Mr Stark. Because while I can come up with stuff I'm not awesome at delivering lies. So just tell him that we fell behind at the base camp and decided to try the watch things."
knifewithnoname: (that sounds unpleasent)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2019-10-25 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"You do be having a sense that do be telling you when something do be being dangerous?"

Yet he still managed to get into so much trouble? Despite that? Oh Peter.

She watched him, calming down herself and willing her legs to stop shaking. They didn't need to shake. They were safe now.

"It will be being best if I do be doing all the talking." She had no faith in his ability to tell lies. "You do be being quiet. Do you be thinking you can be doing that?"
hashtagparkerluck: (I... might be an idiot)

[personal profile] hashtagparkerluck 2019-10-30 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, sorta. It's more like uh... like a feeling something bad is about to happen but I don't always know what it is. Sometimes, the spideysense is super useful other times it's like I'm freaking out for no reason. There have been times when it goes off and I still don't know what caused it." He explains with a shrug before sitting up again.

Be quiet. Let her tell the lies. Yeah, he can do that. Probably.

"Well, I mean, if Mr Stark ask me before he does you, I can't really make any promises. Have you seen that look he gives me when he knows I'm hiding something? He should trade mark that."
knifewithnoname: (serious)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2019-10-30 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Right so that was less helpful. But still useful. And it still felt he should get into less trouble than he did. But he was Peter. She had long given up on understanding him.

"You should be better at hiding things then. You should be practicing. He do only be giving you the look because you do be acting suspicious."

She never got the look because she was never suspicious. She could hide what she was thinking easily, even without the emptiness. Peter though showed everything on his face. He went leaky eyed and scrunch faced often more than once in a single conversation. He spoke so fast that he couldn't help words tumbling out.

It was definitely better that she told Tony what had happened. Or not what had happened, as the case may be.
