Swirling Consequences Start
On day Seven of the Month of Quicksand as passengers are beginning their day there is an announcement over the ICP system. “Attention voidtreckers and passengers of the Voidtrecker Express. Please give your attention to the following message from the void ministry.”
A blurring of the screen and it fades into a video of an elderly woman, skin a swirl of purple and blue sat behind a dark wooden desk hands folded neatly in front of her.
I assume no one has any objections as voidtreckers have chosen to work with the Void Ministry. Please see your mission briefs. This is not a catastrophe mission."
They have a couple of hours before landing, a few hours to study their briefs and prepare for what is to come. Teams might chat, people might give out equipment gathered over the months, some of the passengers who have been on the train since the very early days of the month of Apple may have advice to give.
Either way a couple of hours later there is another announcement. “Shortly arriving at System #5739. Exiting the void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one...”

A blurring of the screen and it fades into a video of an elderly woman, skin a swirl of purple and blue sat behind a dark wooden desk hands folded neatly in front of her.
“Greetings crew of the Voidtrecker Express. I am commander Orlaith of the void ministry. As you will be very aware, you were recently involved in a dangerous and somewhat foolish experiment of the tethering system which we assume was initiated by your voidcraft. We received your call for emergency assistance, and were able to stabilise your craft enough to allow it to focus on ensuring crew safety. We are under the understanding that it was a crew member who used the emergency signal given by the Inspection Arm of the ministry, and that member should be commended. So too should you all, for we have reports that the crew of the Voidtrecker Express took part in a risky and difficult anchoring task to ensure the safety of all. As ever, the crew of the Voidtrecker Express exceed expectations for a crew with no formal training. The video ends.
However, in less positive news, the actions of your Voidcraft have had a ripple effect throughout the void. Worlds that are non void active have reports of seeing void activity in their skies, with residents reporting dreams and uneasy feelings. In void active worlds there are more serious incidents. We have voidcrews in thousands of systems working towards stabilising the void access points.
We understand that after such an ordeal, your crew may be exhausted however we do need your help. System #5739 is a hub world that is extremely void active. It is used to weathering void storms and the barrier between the world and the void is thin. However, it is currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of void activity and world bleeding effects. We need a team to go in and help the citizens there, clearing out any issues and helping stabilise things from within.
The people there know about the void, and are used to void travellers. However, try not to stir up any extra trouble.” The last sounds almost exhausted. Their reputation may precede them.
I assume no one has any objections as voidtreckers have chosen to work with the Void Ministry. Please see your mission briefs. This is not a catastrophe mission."

ARRIVAL
The train shakes as the view of the void leaves its windows, giving way to a cloudy and wet sky in its descent. There's a small bump, and they land on a set of tracks that lead them uphill. Grassy mounds can be spotted on either side, occupied by sheep, goats, and the occasional six legged antelope grazing. In the farther distance are secluded farm houses, or small clusters of buildings.
Things don’t seem so bad, until the clouds spark with colour that sends animals running, far skittish for anything they're used to.
The sparse hills give way to more trees as the train weaves through them, until finally comes to a stop at a small station, no more than a raised platform in the woods. With a sigh, the train doors open, and passengers can walk out into the clearing. Once everyone who wishes to leave disembarks, the train sets off once again, flying up into the air and out of sight.
"Oh good. You’re here!"
Looking over, voidtreckers will spot a young girl at the edge of the clearing.
"Ma said we should expect some void heroes any day now. She’s put some stew on."
And she’s off. For any who wish to follow her, she leads them to an inn, The Weary Wanderer written on a sign. It’s a large inn, larger than might be expected in such a remote place, and the innkeeper Albany quickly organises rooms and food for any who wish it.
“Well, there’s a whole lot more of you than there was.” She takes in the group after Maia explains that they are from the Voidtrecker Express. “Storms are getting worse, we’re getting reports of stampedes, landslides and monsters coming through the colours.” She explains. She has some maps of the area and happily allows her main common room to be turned into a planning station. She’s clearly used to void travellers.
THE WEARY WANDERER
There's enough room for the voidtreckers to squeeze into the front at once, and the tables can be joined to create a more team atmosphere.
YELLING HEIGHTS: FOREST
Location of: Dralites, young and old, their nests; monkeys, voidblobs (uncommon), fruit cups and purple stars. Displaced people.
The Yelling Height's forest reach spreads far, wrapping around the lower third of the great Ciyesia mountain and its budding fellow heights, with trees as tall as redwoods making up most of its wood. This gives plenty of space for travellers to move through, but the treetops create thick canopies that shroud the world below, the dots of penetrating light visible in contrast. Against some trees can be found what look like bushes, and there's plenty of them around, along with moss; but looking closer, these have hollow middles, made up of pin needles, twigs, feathers and all sorts. Some have been ruined, some have eggs inside.
High-pitched cries can be heard echoing, but it can be hard to tell how far, or what distance they come from - there's too many, making what should sound distressing, sound like a racket. While there's paths that can be followed, some of the wood has fallen, with ways disturbed by rubble that's tumbled all this way down from the mountain. There are signs to aid - those that haven't been knocked over - to give some sense of direction. Still this wood is hard to navigate, and Voidtreckers will want to be careful about rushing in without a plan. Trouble lurks in all manners...
YELLING HEIGHTS: SCRUBLANDS
Location Of: Farm animals, some voidblobs, great chinchillas, farmers in need; ruined paths, craggle leaf. Some dralites, mostly adult. Displaced people.
The trees eventually give way to a mix of rock and dirt, stone jagging up from the ground underfoot that travellers will need to watch out for. Vegetation is littered around, patches of shrubs as often easy to catch the eye as grazed grass poking out around mossy-coated stone. There are paths, or were, but only the remains of them can be found, the area reshaped by landslides.
Animals can be found isolated or in some groups, spooked by any newcomers around, and the odd shepherd trying their best to get their herds under control. But there's further trouble than blocked paths to deal with - because these jobs can never be simple.
LOWER LANDS: FARMLANDS
Location of: Voidblobs (common), great chinchillas, a few horned goats; ruined pathways, farms in need; people to craft balms and potions, access to tools.
While not as high as the Ciyesia mountain, nor as shrouding as the blanketing forest, the rolling countryside shows its sloping and uneven distance, varying fields split by tones and sandy paths - or what should be sandy paths. But the damage to the earth is noticeable, chunks of the various mounds ruined, broken at parts. You can see trouble, ensuing or approaching, just by looking around long enough.
And the biggest trouble will be reaching it.
Buildings squeeze against fields and fencing, separated far from anyone that could be called a neighbour. But there's a few of what can be called villages, where trades are conducted and visitors are sure to stop. There's usually a singular inn, but people looking to call on the help of a void traveller to help with this mess. They can promise hot meals and some goods in exchange, but first needs to come the help.
Extra people to set up perimeters are very welcome, as are those who can drive the creatures back into the forests. It’s not just the homes themselves that need protecting but also the paths between them, so voidtreckers and others can deliver supplies to the further afield communities.
FROM THE VOID...
For now they need found, gathered in once place and care given to them.
They are rampaging, strong in their urge to destroy. Fighting them is difficult as nothing seems to slow them down until they die, it’s hard to know how hurt they are and injury doesn’t seem to stop their brute strength or will to kill. They rarely will stop and fight either, requiring a team just to keep up with them as they will lash out and fight but keep rampaging on, drawn towards groups of people or creatures. They can be found anywhere.
OOC NOTES
This log lasts for 7-10 Quicksand, with the next log going up on the 21st March (11 Quicksand). Please remember that we will be determining the progress of the mission by task objectives being fulfilled, so PLEASE visit the task objectives toplevel and let us know what your character has been working towards! We accept handwaves (especially if your character is around but you're on hiatus), but actual thread links will count more towards success!

This time he hollers out a "Bulma!" and gets to her side, at least ready to at least keep her safe from tantrum debris. His coat's still armored out, and if he can get in the way of something of reasonable size he can keep her from getting hurt.
So at least she has more than one pair of eyes looking out for her.
"He didn't do it on purpose!" he tells her, too. Which she already knows, but considering their previous conversations she deserved to have that confirmation.
no subject
Leaping upwards and forward over the distance between them, he lands hard in the area Trunks is in as he slams his hand down to try and crush Trunks against the ground.
no subject
"Hey! Prince of all Kongs!"
She looses her two charged shadow balls directly below his tail as she takes off into the air.
"I just stuffed some bananas down my pants, why don't you come get 'em?"
With that, she throws two more fireballs at Vegeta, in locations calculated to be as annoying as possible.
no subject
Thankfully Bulma knows that Trunks is sturdy. She's not in the place, at the moment, to fuss over her son's injuries when her husband could cause infinite more in a state where he isn't in total control of it, either. Sure, there's an odd chance he could smash her like a bug at a moment's notice, too, but as he'd told her so flippantly before when discussing this...
She would come back.
"Yondu - " Bulma turns for a moment to see what her giant monkey husband is doing before turning back to him, stressed, but maybe not for the reason of possibly being smashed as others may assume. Really, she's concerned he will do something that he regrets, and though Vegeta would never admit it to anyone else, she knows she would hear about it. "I know he didn't. But at the moment that's not really what I'm worried about."
Vegeta leaps, and the ground shakes, throwing Bulma's arms pinwheeling for a moment as her attention is drawn back to the action for the moment. It takes only a moment more before she's lost track of anyone trying to protect her, instead moving toward Vegeta's line of sight with determination. She's possibly somewhat easily to spot even if she isn't glowing, blue hair and all -
"Vegeta, no!" Is she speaking to him like he's a misbehaving dog? Yes. But is she doling out the pain evenly at the moment? Also yes.
"Cassie, enough. If you're all plucking at him it's all just seeing red! Just hold him in place here!"
And with that done, back to monkey husband, still at the top of her lungs - "Vegeta! Vegeta, I know you're in there, get your shit together!"
skipping turn to knock him out
He's about to agree with Bulma's assessment, though be incorrect that Bulma could not shout over his roars. But that shouting and sudden warning is abruptly stifled by the wind knocked out of him. The tail veers too close to them in the fight, and he takes the brunt of the damage, being thwapped fully backwards. And it'd have been great if he just rolled down the mountain and to safety or something. But is Yondu that lucky? Nah.
Bam. Back against the solid trunk of a tree. The last thing he sees are white hot dots in his eyes and the last hope he has is that his lungs keep pulling air after he hits the ground. But he is out even before he flops onto the debris and leaves.
no subject
Trunks is not risking his mother, and he's not yet to the point where he's going for the tail. But soon, because if this drags out much longer...
no subject
He whips around towards her, Trunks well forgotten, lips pulling back into a snarl as the roar he let loose sounded even angrier than the last ones, if that was even possible. A crackle snapped and sparked in the air, brief then becoming more rapid, and the very clear sign for all those who had been around it, of the starts of charging up to transform into Super Saiyan form.
no subject
Her customary Three Stooges whoops die off quickly, however, as she senses the energy welling up inside of him.
"...Well, THAT can't be good."
no subject
“-Yondu!” Bulma screams as the man suddenly disappears from view. In a moment she’s totally forgotten the large ape lurking above her, having a temper tantrum as he is. For the moment she is only concerned about Yondu’s well being, darting to check where he’s come to lay.
Sure, she is by no means a doctor, but she knows enough to make sure he is at least alive and breathing. And not beat up enough that they need to get him to someone who can help in that aspect.
Thankfully it’s enough distraction that she is no longer trying to scream Vegeta down for the moment.
… Cover for her, kiddos.
no subject
Alright, fine, they do this the hard way. Taking a few pot shots with one hand, Trunks keeps his other back, charging up energy. NOw, he just needs to get a good shot at the tail.
ignoring the armor in the icon as so little golden ape pics to work with heh
Cassie is the next target, he almost instantly covering the distance towards her, though in a sense she's luckier, a strike not sending her quite as far as Trunks was launched, but with enough force to assume she was out of the way for the time being.
Now to finish off that third one he had hit earlier, Vegeta stomping his mass towards where Yondu had landed, and where Bulma had headed over to help him.
no subject
It takes her a couple seconds to get from her knees to her feet, and she's shaking off some cobwebs as she does.
"Ow."
Any further remarks she might have are cut off by the realization of where Vegeta is headed.
Shit. He's about to kill Yondu.
Against her better judgment, she's flying after the giant glowing death monkey, hoping to get between it and the person it wants to stomp.
no subject
Stomping the blue alien on the ground will have to go through Bulma first. She's quickly established that Yondu is at least alive and breathing, and doesn't have any injuries that she thinks would be immediately fatal. With that established the little bit of her that was quickly falling toward panic soothes, and instead, she's moving to make sure he's at least in a more comfortable position until they can move him away or to someone with medical expertise. All the while as she's attempting to lug a heavy deadweight much beyond what she's capable of, she becomes more and more aware of closer and closer thudding footsteps.
Vegeta is coming their way, and though it feels as though it's slow, she reminds herself of how tall he is now, and reminds herself that he isn't that far at all. Against all better judgement and ability to preserve herself, Bulma stands directly in the way of stomping Yondu, turning to face her giant, yellow ape of a husband with a defiant set to her shoulders.
... If she hadn't learned to be afraid of him by now, she sure as hell will not here and now. Which is why this small, fragile woman instead points a finger at the giant approaching ape and orders :
"Vegeta! Stop right here!"
no subject
But cuts off just before reaching her location.
There's a deep rumble from behind clenched teeth, before his mouth opening again, similar to when he had been about to use that ki blast. Instead there's a bark of a roar in her direction, ending in a drawn out growl behind it.
no subject
Not when his mother was in danger. Launching himself into the sky again, going as fast as he ever could, prepared to dive in front of his mother when she yells...
And then Trunks's brain catches up, that no ki blast was coming.
Huh?
no subject
She's reaching around the back for her rifle, though, just in case.
no subject
A normal person would be running, cowering, something in the face of a ki blast carving a path toward them. Bulma, though... Bulma doesn't flinch. As much as others may think that she maybe shouldn't, Bulma does have implicit trust in Vegeta. After all of these years, and after many moments of conversation or even just silent commiseration.. she knows she can break through to him.
Which appears to be a safe bet as the blast goes away, and instead Vegeta chooses to... bark at her? Bulma pauses for all of a moment, brain catching up after she'd been preparing to maybe take a ki blast without any bit of defense. But ever the one to not miss a step, she's quickly back to firing off.
"Come down here and say that to me in a language I understand!" Of course she has to say it - would it be Bulma if she did not? She points to the ground with a vicious level of seriousness, and fires off again.
"Get back down here where I have to look down to look you in the eye!"
no subject
And maybe it is looking like she was getting through. Until his fist smashes down towards the ground right where she is.
From a distance no doubt it looks like Bulma just got crushed, but keeping a clear mind would tell those capable of sensing ki that hers was still there, and while his strike had been quick as any other, it wasn't as violent as the previous ones. Lifting his fist back out of the ground he had crushed underneath, Vegeta brings it up closer to his face and opens his fingers to hold Bulma inside of it, that low growl still rumbling away in his throat.
no subject
Her finger is not, however, on the trigger just yet, nor is she making any sudden moves. She can still sense Bulma, and knows she's alive. Whatever chance there is of her surviving this rampage depends on what she does.
no subject
Then his eyes were widening again, and he was slowly floating down to the ground in shock. She was alive--he could sense her, and now see a hint of her cradled in the giant hand. Oh thank kami--she was getting through to him.
no subject
Bulma might have lost her footing with the way the ground shudders around her if not for Vegeta's very big ... hand? paw? in a sense cocooning her. The noise of his fist hitting the ground stifles the shriek of surprise she looses, too, though she's mostly just thrilled to not be a pile of goo on the ground that used to resemble Bulma Briefs.
Thankfully the shock of being lifted in to the air doesn't seem to take any wind out of her sails.
The moment that she's aware of where she is... she's right back at it.
"This is not what I asked for!"
no subject
He gives a sharp shake of his head, trying to force it back deep into his mind, closing his one good eye while he did, and when he reopens it he looks around as if seeing the location for the first time. "Where are we?" He knows he had thrown himself away from the cabin, and it didn't look like that area, he can sense them off in the distance. Good, they had kept him away from them.
no subject
The rifle's back in its shoulder sling. For now, anyway.
no subject
no subject
"You first!" She's happy that he's actually speaking words at least, instead of roaring in her face. It's a happy sign, and she's trying not to get ahead of herself even as she cracks a smile at him. Vegeta is back, even somewhat.
"System #5739.. thankfully you got away from the train." A little sigh, and she shifts ever so slightly, trying not to wince at the way her body feels sore after that whole massive hand grabbing her up thing. She's sure he didn't mean it, so she won't complain for the moment. "I'm glad you're back to yourself some."
