Swirling Consequences Ongoing

SWIRLING CONSEQUENCES: ONGOING

QUICKSAND 11-13 ~ TEAM OBJECTIVES ~ LOCATION INFORMATION ~ OTHER DETAILS
COMMS ~ ASK QUESTIONS ~ SHENANIGANS ~ TEAM PLOTTING ~ MISSION TASKS/REWARDS

OVER THE YELLING HEIGHTS...
As they arrive at their destination, the Voidtreckers are quick to get to work into the various jobs that need them. The Blues have slowly but steadily been doing their best to fulfil all three of their tasks. They've worked to locate locals and to get them aid after being cut off, and have been searching for those from other worlds. A few helped with the dralite work, but took priority in helping people and leaving the dralites to others.

Orange have largely focused on collecting herbs, doing some work to help farmers relocate their animals, but only a few helped the dralite with their nests. At least there will be plenty of potions, teas, and craggy leaves to hand out, with the leaves sure to help the stressed out animals yet located.

For the Purples, they've been working well to clear the roads and ruined layouts of farms and villages to give better access around the Yelling Heights. A few have helped in escorting their fellow team members and the locals in getting around.

As for the Reds, they did what they do best: going on the offensive. They've been working to get rid of the voidblobs, but don't have much interest in setting up safe perimeters. A few voidtears, however, have been located, and hopefully that will help everyone push forward in the next few days of the mission.

Overall, the farmers are thankful for the help so far, and a good decent have been assisted. They will help Voidtreckers as they need it, and have tools on hand that can be borrowed. They will be willing to assist with the voidtears, if only able to push back any voidblobs, or to make sure Voidtreckers get back somewhere safe afterwards.
  • The storms have increased, changing the spotty but sunny days into more rain and wind. The choral singing can be heard more, even if one isn't near a voidtear, causing an increase in animals becoming stressed and spooked. Fortunately, transgates - quick travel gates - have been set up between the Weary Wanderer (near the forest and scrublands), one in the largest village on in the farmlands, and one can be accessed around the scrublands. These will help with some of the travel.

  • Animals are scattered around the scrublands and fields between farms, some unfortunately perished over the first few nights, but also some safely brought back to their appropriate farms. Adult dralites will be more hostile around people, spreading out father and bothering farmlands, screeching up a storm that stuns most people even from a distance. Their young can still be found, alive or not, and they will leave with either, though with wails for their deceased child. Even capturing them and leading them back into the forest will do some good.
Prompt: There's a farm not too far from the Weary Wanderer that Albany asks for people to go to - some earmuffs can be taken along to help with the sound, along with earplugs. The reason becomes clear as soon as Voidtreckers approach it, where dralites can be circling around it. A woman greets whoever comes - "Thank ya for coming out here, I know you're working hard" - and leads them to the cause.

There's a ditch where trees have fallen, their farm bordering the forest. The cries of younger dralites can be heard, but the adults are squabbling amongst one another, and people who try to approach the fallen wreckage can thwapped at by the adults.

What will be the best course of action? To bruteforce the paralsying wails and peckings and to get at the trunks? Or to pacify these disagreeable winged things? Voidtreckers can also come here and find a displaced person or two taking shelter. (B2, B3)
  • While a good portion of the roads have been cleared and managed, there are areas away from the Weary Wanderer that need help, where the Ciyesia mountain suffered its damage and plenty of the farm animals and more secluded farmers have been cut off from help. The great chinchillas and the voidblobs are taking advantage of the ruined roads to kill and take animals (the chinchillas), or just to ruin them as they're found (the voidblobs).
Prompt:"We're gonna need all the hands we can get. Can some of your folks come with us 'round Ciyesia? We're having trouble to getting to some of ours in a tricky part, and the animals that way - oh, they're nasty."

There's a trail - or most of a trail - that goes around the side of the Ciyesia mountain, leading over to a smaller collection of hills. While good work has been done on clearing up, around this area there's still a fine slide of rubble that's scattered over the walking paths. Those with sturdy arms are necessary to clear the wreckage, but also to deal with the voidblobs, great chinchillas, and even the dralites in this area, with the latter preferred to be pushed back to the forest. The farmers coming with the Voidtreckers will help to round the animals, but they'll need help dealing with the trouble along the way.

Doing this will help them gain access to a few farms, grateful to find visitors, though their families will be around, trying to deal with trouble. Find them on the road, with animals or in a troubling situation with a voidblob, and do what you can to help. (P1, B1, R1/R3, O2)
  • While Voidtreckers have worked hard to get rid of them, larger voidblobs have been spotted, and are becoming a bigger issue across the community. Further perimeters will need to be set up to keep them away from the farmlands scattered around, using good coordination to cover as much ground as possible. The voidtears as a result are easier to find, as blobs can be easier to spot if people are on watch, but are tougher than the result blobs: as tall and wide as a newsagent storefront, they will take more than one or two people to deal with them. Their speed can be unpredictable, and they're sturdier than the smaller variants, having a more gelatinous ability to move - even to rise high or to spread out.

It is advised stronger Voidtreckers deal with these - coming in with little experience or just a blade will be dangerous.
Prompt: "We're seein' some of those big boys out around the fields. I'm telling ya, they're fast bastards. Think you can help us get rid of 'em? Anything you need, we've got your backs."

The locals of these lands are doing their best to help the Voidtreckers, as well as each other. Getting word out to the farther communities is hard, but they have set up a system - flags. Flags made out of any bedsheet that can be found, then put up on wooden logs. They're a call for help, being used especially if they spot voidblobs. It's a desperate attempt at communication, but the voidblobs are troublesome - and more so their larger variant. No fence or barricade works to keep them back, and the best the farmers can do is hope they won't come towards their homes when they roll into their lands. It's also worse if there happens to be a voidtear nearby...(R1, R3)
  • Finding displaced people will be all the more important, though some have been put forward to aid. Glowing marks around the Yelling Height's forest have been put on the tree trunks to help guide people out of the forest easier from different spots, and another Voidtrecker has been encouraged to create crystal trackers, that can be picked up. These crystals will glow the closer they approach a non-native, nor non-Voidtrecker sentient being - which means both displaced people, and the voidblobs.

Sending people home will require the same anchoring technique used during Jinnjar, Diagad, and similar to the recent events. It only takes one Voidtrecker to return someone to their world, hand in hand they will cross a metaphysical void river, seeing flashes of the visitor's world and life. And Voidtreckers will be just as exhausted as they were getting their own returned to the train... Probably best to share this burden out between as many who are willing.
Prompt: Some displaced people have found their way out of the woods, found around the escorts for those keeping check, or even making their way to Albany's inn or a nearby farm. The locals themselves can't help send them home, but they're used to helping outsiders, warming them up and getting them fed. Some will accept help easily, but others are less keen on approaching unknown houses. (B2)
  • To approach a voidtear will be a challenge, but as they're found, planning a route straight to them that minimises time will help. Closing a voidtear will require more than one person, a small group even - with each getting under a voidtear and then pressing their anchor button. They will need to focus on keeping themselves grounded and to resist the pull of the void, as they offer their own energy in stitching up the tear. For smaller tears two people should be able to close it but more voidtreckers will be necessary for the larger ones. Colours and music entice them, to just give up, let themselves float into the void... They will need to support each other to keep steady.

  • OOC NOTES
    OOC Post ~ Questions ~ Shenanigans ~ Tasks Check-In & Mission Rewards

Notes: A conclusion post will go up on the 26th. Feel free to put toplevels put up at the end of the start log here! Or to re-use portions and to put up fresh posts here. Or to just link them here, have a blast.

Here is a TL;DR of the above tasks: Dralites are everywhere, more aggressive and hostile; farm animals are more scattered and harder to reach, being attacked by chinchillas and voidblobs around scrublands; displaced people need to be found and sent home, and voidblobs now have a larger variant; the voidtears are becoming easier to find, but the effects of the storms are worsening, closing them will be a priority.

Please have your tasks submitted by the 25th to help determine the conclusion of the mission! We will start to count mission rewards around this time too.

Morning Q13 - Scrublands (closed to Lioriley)

Rezo hasn’t really slept since yesterday evening. He couldn’t really tell when it was getting dark, after all, and there were still animals loose and people who needed healing, and, well, by the time he’d realized he’d been up for a while it had seemed simpler just to keep going. And it has been simple enough, up until he’d come across a pair of displaced people, one of whom had been badly injured after a fall down a cliff.

Rezo had healed the injured man, but after casting the spell his nose had started bleeding and stubbornly refused to stop, even after he’d hit himself with a recovery spell. And the headache he’s been incubating since last night has gotten worse. This, on top of the fact that sending these people home involved… A certain kind of magic he was reluctant to try.

So. In the end he’d called up Lioriley for assistance, and now he’s simply waiting for her.

Rezo is standing very still, with his head tilted back. He’s focusing mainly on keeping his breathing even, in the hopes that it will help with the spikes of pain shooting through the back of his head. The copper scent and taste of blood is thick in his mouth and not helping with the nausea.

Sitting in a makeshift shelter behind him is a pair of people, a teenage girl with hair falling in her face, and an older man with a cracked pair of glasses. The two of them look rather nervous about the whole situation.

Location acquired, Lioriley finished packing her rucksack (a few bottles of water, blankets, rations, and a potion or two just in case) and hurried out of the inn, making sure to note her location on the sheet she had been keeping up with since day one. It didn't take her too long to arrive; thankfully not detoured by any other displaced folks or wayward herds of sheep along the way. And when she did she was...surprised, to say the least.

The displaced people she had anticipated — unfamiliar and confused faces, looking like they had been through a windstorm or something — but Rezo's current physical condition... not so much.

"Rezo?" She called just loud enough to get his attention, trotting over to him first. A quick glance suggested he had either suffered a blow to the head or a nosebleed - she could not tell which, and did not linger long enough to study him beyond that. Instead she crouched, pulled a bottle of water from her pack, and carefully placed it into his hand. "Drink this." The bottle was cool, chilled by her magic. The Lunari pulled away to study the two nearby, hurrying to repeat the process by handing them their own bottles, along with blankets to wrap around themselves while she checked for wounds that might have gone unnoticed. Not that she doubted Rezo's abilities, of course, but given the circumstances it was better to be safe than sorry.

"We will get you home." She assured, smiled, and then stood up and took a deep breath.

Rezo catches the sound of her footsteps, no matter how light they may be, before he hears her voice. When she speaks, his head tilts in her direction, and despite the headache he smiles very slightly.

“It is good to see you,” he says.

He doesn’t have time to say anything else before she’s gone and stuffed something cold into his hand. “What- oh.” He’d asked for water, right. He’d also suspected the displaced pair could have used some, but now that it is in his hands he has to admit he… could probably use it desperately.

Taking slow sips, he listens in while Lioriley checks in on the displaced pair.

Both of them are fairly ordinary looking humans and accordingly stare a bit at Lioriley- the old man more than the girl- but otherwise cooperate.

When Lioriley makes her assurances the girl nods, curtly. “Good. No offense if this is your world, I’m sure it’s normally fine, but I’m ready to go now that his legs aren’t broken.”

The older man gives Lioriley a sheepish look and explains: “It was dark when I got here.”

Too used to being stared at, Lioriley made no obvious sign that she even noticed or cared; focusing instead on her once over of the two of them. When she seemed satisfied she leaned back and nodded, offering a soft laugh and another assuring smile to them both.

"Good that my friend arrived to assist, then. Seems he has done most of the hard work in taking care of you." Said loud enough for Rezo to hear, her praise as genuine as everything else she said.

"Are you from the same world, then?" She asked them both. No matter their answer, she knew she couldn't bring them both back at the same time lest she overexert herself and potentially fail. "It is a strange thing, returning you, but I will need you to trust me enough to be your guide. Things will seem about as odd as your arrival, but it will not be too difficult if you focus on your home and your desire to return. Who would like to go first?"

Whoever answered would be offered the Lunari's hands to take so they could stand and begin.

Rezo does not interject when Lioriley praises him, although he certainly hears it. The displaced man, however, decides to add: “The young lady has been very helpful as well. She’s the one who built us this shelter and watched over me until your friend found us.”

The girl flushes, and mutters, “It really wasn’t that big a deal.” When Lioriley starts questioning them she’s clearly relieved to change the subject, although she purses her lips and sighs before answering.

“I don’t… I don’t think so. We’ve talked a bit about what we can remember, but a lot of things don’t match up.”

“I hope it’s true,” the older man says, “That all our memories will return when we do. The amnesia has been the most alarming part of all this.”

As soon as the question comes up of which person will return first, the two share a quick glance before the girl shrugs. “I don’t mind either way,” she says.

“In that case, I’ll best get on with it,” the older man says. He shrugs off his blanket, steps forward, and takes Lioriley’s hands.

A few feet away, Rezo lowers his bottle, intent on listening closely for if something goes wrong.

The embarrassed girl was at least going to get a "Well done." From Lioriley before the conversation fully shifted to the more important task at hand.

"I cannot promise much of anything, unfortunately. But your memories should return in time - if not immediately." She said as she stood along with the man, hands firmly gripping his. She instructed him to remember his homeworld — what he could, of course — and focus on only the return as she started to walk backwards, guiding him along with her. For a few steps they were just walking further into the scrublands, but slowly the world began to shift around them; a swirl of fog and swirling colors, disjointed sounds; glimpses of an unfamiliar scene to the Lunari, but apparently not for the man. "Do not mind the voices." must have sounded like such a strange thing to say to Rezo and the young woman, because they could not hear them.

"What was that?" The man said after a few moments, fingers nearly dislodging from Lioriley's. She tightened her grip, grimaced, a hint of pain in her voice. "Nothing. A stray thought - keep moving." her voice was calm enough, and the man nodded, only slightly hesitant, and then continued forward until — after only a moment or two, he seemed to vanish in a burst of golden light, leaving Lioriley alone those few feet away.

Rezo can neither see nor hear whatever it is Lioriley and the man are experiencing as they walk together, so maybe it’s just his imagination that makes him think he can feel a shift in the atmosphere, something immaterial slipping, like a slide from one side to another.

He hopes this is normal, as he’s not sure how to help if anything goes wrong and truthfully, knows he’d probably make it worse if he tried interfering at any point. Still, when Lioriley and the man are nearly waylaid by a stray thought it’s all he can do to keep himself from hurrying over.

And then… the man is gone. Even Rezo is not sure how he knows that, aside from the shift in the atmosphere back to normalcy when Lioriley stops moving. But he realizes even before the girl speaks up.

    “Is he… home?”

Rezo, on the other hand, chooses to ask a more general question- “Is everything alright?” -as he moves over to Lioriley.

For a moment, Lioriley did not respond. Instead, she stared down at her hands, noted the slight tremble in her fingers, and nodded absently; hearing the question but not fully registering it.

She had anchored with people before when the train had failed its attempt to send some passengers home, but it was still a very unsettling feeling. She felt... vulnerable. All the terrible memories and emotions she locked away inside her laid out for the tethering party to see while she witnessed their own memories and feelings. The man had been scared and confused, yes, but he did not have any particularly jarring thoughts that would halt their attempt to return him. Lioriley, on the other hand, had momentarily slipped and remembered a particular event from years ago — where she had tried to grab a hold of her friend Azariah as she fell, and fumbled; not strong enough to hold on for longer than a second. The feeling of the man's hand in her own had reminded her.

"Yes." She finally said, "He is." she was sure. Somehow. Or maybe she just didn't want to put any doubt in the already confused girl. To Rezo she reached out and gently brushed a hand against his arm in a gesture that was growing more and more common between them. "Fine. He should be returned now. You should sit." she would take care of the girl - already moving to repeat the process with her.

He does not like how long it takes her to respond. But what is he supposed to do? Rezo’s instinct is to gently grab her and do… something, make her sit down maybe, but he doubts that would actually help. And he needs her to do this for him.

He can’t relax, even when Lioriley finally responds; she may be able to feel how tense the muscles of his arm are underneath her hand.

In response to her suggestion to sit, Rezo shakes his head, and regrets it when a wave of dizziness hits him. “I’m fine,” he insists, and is met with a snort from the girl.

“You look like hell and you’re not fooling anyone,” she says. Turning to Lioriley, she adds, “You know his nose started bleeding like crazy after healing that man’s legs?”

“It’s not bleeding now,” Rezo says, a little too quickly.

“You want it to start bleeding again?”

“Shouldn’t you be returning home now?”

The girl scoffs once more and takes Lioriley’s hands; much to his vexation, Rezo catches her whisper “Good luck,” to Lioriley.

Lioriley looked from the girl to Rezo, brows furrowing and leylines flickering with worry for the priest. "Is that so." That explained the streaks of blood he had not fully managed to wipe away, along with the pallid tone of his features and the obvious lethargy. A lack of energy - magical or mundane or both, and he was stubbornly refusing to rest.

She turned back to the girl, smiled a mirthless smile and nodded; making no comment in return, even if her expression said it all: I have dealt with worse than stubborn men. "Come now. Let us get you home."

The process was easier the second time. Lioriley did not falter, kept her mind focused and her thoughts far from her own world and especially from the priest she would have to deal with when all was said and done. The girl vanished as the man had, and Lioriley felt her own energy briefly wane in the wake of the anchoring. It was trying work - but she wasn't done. Rezo still needed her. She made her way over to him, hands still shaking despite attempts to calm herself.

    "How are you feeling?"

Rezo does not sit while Lioriley works, although he does find a tree to stand and frown under. He’s still tense, afraid of something going wrong that he cannot fix, but this time the returning goes by without incident, and it isn’t long before he has to answer Lioriley’s questions.

“I-” No, at this point he would only embarrass both of them if he tried to say he was fine. “I will admit I am not at my best, but I am not in any actual danger.”

Having masterfully dismissed the subject, or so he hopes, Rezo turns the question back on her.

“What about you? You told me that the anchoring is strenuous work, and you seemed…” He hesitates, trying to think of a simple way to put it. “...Distracted, somehow, while you were working with the man. Did something happen?”

The fact that he was still standing only made her worry more; made the coiled neon lines on her body flicker; mouth downturned into a prominent and uncharacteristic frown.

"Your bleeding from the nose would suggest otherwise." She said and she knew she was being hypocritical - if she were in the same position she would have said the same thing, assured and placated and she doubted Rezo would have fallen for it. Neither would she, unfortunately, and she made a point to step close and press her hand gently to his chest. Not pushing, just... insisting. "Please. Sit. I will join you." Probably best to sit if they were going to have that discussion anyway.

She didn't want to answer, but she also couldn't just brush it off. "Memories I wish to forget surfaced, that is all. When guiding others, you share everything - emotions, memories, thoughts. He saw it and I faltered. That is all."

    [personal profile] redprayer 2022-03-24 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It was only a nosebleed, Rezo wants to grumble. Except he has a feeling that wasn’t just it, and it worries him. And he already has several things to worry about as it is.

He feels the gentle press of her hand against his chest, and his heart thumps heavily beneath her touch, a reminder of how exhausted he is. Truthfully, he’s a little afraid if he sits, he won’t be able to stand up again.

But it’s hard to resist the insistent way her hand is resting on his chest. Exhaling gently, Rezo takes hold of her wrist and slowly slumps to the ground, pulling her along with him.

When they’re both settled, his attention turns to her. To his surprise, he finds he’s more than a little curious about what Lioriley might wish to forget. In Rezo’s experience, most people have at least a few things tucked away that they wish they didn’t, so it’s not that he expected Lioriley to be wholly cheerful. Yet the urge to inquire is still there.

But it would doubtless be deeply inappropriate of him to demand she speak of something clearly painful at this moment, especially when she’s just done him a favor.

“I am sorry to have asked this of you,” he says.

Which isn’t to say he thinks he should have done something else; Lioriley had been his best option for solving the problem of returning those people without putting them in danger. But he can recognize how difficult it was for her.

Lioriley acquiesced; settling down beside him with her knees to her chest, arms loosely draped around her shins. When Rezo turned toward her she froze, worried that he might ask for further clarification of what she had seen; what memory had surfaced. She had plenty that she tried to forget - all of which she was not inclined to share with others if she did not have to. Her life was long and full of mistakes she wished she could fix.

Needless to say, she was glad that he hadn't asked. Though the apology may have somehow been worse.

"It is all right." She assured him. "They needed to be returned, and with your current condition it would not have been wise to do so yourself. I was more than happy to assist."

If she pays attention, Lioriley may catch the flash of surprise on his face before his features are still once more.

She thinks his current condition is why he couldn’t send those people home? Well, of course. That would be the logical assumption. Who would immediately leap to the idea that he was the vessel for a fragment of an ancient dark god? Rezo himself hadn’t realized until the very moment Shabranigdu clawed himself free.

“You have my gratitude. And, I imagine, that of those two people.”

She did catch it, but couldn't quite understand why he seemed so surprised. Did he think she wouldn't come to assist him? Or was he hiding some other injury - something more severe that she hadn't noticed?

Whatever it was, she didn't press. Maybe she had imagined the look - fleeting as it was.

"I only did what anyone would have in such a scenario." Even Rezo, she thought, if he was able to. "We should get you back to the inn once you are ready."

In a way, her guess is correct. He is hiding something more severe and if possible, he hopes to continue to hide it.

There’s a brief pause when Lioriley mentions the inn, mostly because the idea of returning hadn’t even occurred to Rezo. Still, the moment he thinks about it is the moment he rejects it.

“No,” he says, as firmly as he can manage. “There is still work to do.”

Even if he’s tired. Or running out of magical energy. He shouldn’t be, he’s worked for far longer under more severe demands.

He wouldn't need his sight to know that she was frowning; her displeasure evident in her voice.

"Your work is done for now." She countered, "if healing others is affecting you physically, and you can barely stand without swaying, then you need to rest. This is not up for debate either."

Rezo himself is also frowning now. He has, alas, already conceded that he is Not At His Best, although he thinks Lioriley’s suggestion that he can’t stand without swaying is rather exaggerating. It’s not.

“While I appreciate your concern,” he states, his tone growing curt, “It is not your place to give me orders. It is unnecessary for me to return.”

Oh. This is what they were doing?

"Unnecessary? You have clearly overworked yourself to the point of exhaustion. And while I do respect your willingness to assist the locals, it should not be at the cost of your own well-being. You will not do them much good if you collapse mid-rescue." She said, hoping facts would sway him even a little bit, her own voice wavering slightly with concern. "Did you forget why you called me here to begin with?"

“I haven’t forgotten anything-” He pauses, pinching the bridge of his nose. This argument would be much easier if he didn’t have a damn headache. Which, admittedly, in and of itself is undermining his stance that he isn’t useless just yet.

“There is logic in what you are saying,” Rezo admits. However, it’s clear from his tone that he intends to follow it up with a but, as soon as he can come up with a protest that he thinks Lioriley will understand. Because he doubts she will understand his need to avoid the sidelines. Or that his well-being isn’t what matters at this point.

At least, not without having to explain several things that he would rather not explain.

She watched him intently; worried that if she looked away he might - what? Make a run for it just to avoid her demands that he rest? Not knowing the full scope of his abilities assured that she couldn't rule out the possibility, even if it was unlikely given his current condition.

"And yet you refuse to listen to said logic." She offered as a fill-in for the unsaid 'but' that she anticipated was coming regardless. "I cannot say that I would not do the same - have done the same in your position, but that does not mean it the correct move to make. I just do not wish to see you hurt, Rezo. And that can be so easily avoided."

The tension in Rezo’s body is easy to observe. His face is tight- though his head slumped, making his expression a little harder to see- and one hand clutches his staff in a death grip. He may not look like he’s able to run off, but he also doesn’t look like he’s going to go anywhere period.

And when Lioriley says ‘I just do not wish to see you hurt,’ he visibly flinches.

“It is easily avoided,” he agrees. “You simply do not have to stay and watch me.”

Watching as keenly as she was then, she would have had to be blind not to see it - the white knuckle grip on his staff, the tension in his frame, the way he flinched like she had somehow wounded him with her concern.

Then, she winced just the same, and whatever tears she had managed to will away during their conversation fell from the corners of her eyes. She didn't understand the point of his stubbornness. What was the benefit to hurting himself and essentially telling her to just leave and let him do so? To help people? Even her own altruism had a physical limit that pushing past would hinder more than help.

"Please." She may as well have been begging; voice finally cracking. "I cannot just leave you. Surely you know that."

Rezo hears that crack in her voice; realizes with a lurch that he’s made her cry, and silently curses himself for snapping like that. It was a shameful break of composure on his part.

“I hoped it would be longer before I made someone cry again,” he murmurs.

Perhaps he’s been too friendly with her; given her the idea that he’s a perfectly normal person. How to explain there isn’t any point in worrying about a dead man walking? That it doesn’t matter if he gets hurt when he’s past the point of having anything to lose, when the only reason he’s still alive is because of a dangerous mistake made by the train; a mistake he still needs to rectify for the greater good?

He tilts his head up, and shifts where he sits. With his spare hand he reaches out, feeling for her own- and hoping she won’t simply slap his away at this point.

“I still would prefer not to return to the inn just yet,” he says slowly, “But would it help, perhaps, if I agreed to take a break?”

He supposes he can take some time to at least sit around and rehydrate, if it will ease her mind.
