Jema'grethy: Memory Cave

Passengers see a vision, an instance of someone's life, before just as suddenly - they find themselves inside a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely, and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.

They're not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker; maybe someone they know well, or maybe someone they've only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave, and they will come to find out that it was one of their memories that the other witnessed. And them, one of yours.

The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.

But for that time to come, they first must talk...

Well, that interrupts his chuckles. "Xion!" She must have received a memory at the same time as him. What had he shown her? And why would it have given her a bad one after giving him a nice one? That doesn't make sense!

She looked up at him, seeming absolutely miserable. "I'm sorry, Roxas," she whispered. If he wasn't holding her hand still, if she wasn't sure there was no way out, she would have run. And she knew it.

"Sorry for what? What did you see?" He shakes his head immediately. "Whatever it is, it's not your fault. Nothing was."

"I'm not.... I'm not as strong as... as the Xion you remember...." She closed her eyes tightly. She wasn't good enough. At some point he'd realize that.

His concerns melts into deep confusion. "What do you mean? I'm not the Roxas you remember either." Where did this discussion of strength come from?

"I.... I don't think I'll ever be strong enough... to do what she did..."

The fighting and... the just standing there watching as Saïx and Axel had that conversation at the end. She knew herself well enough to know she'd have run away. It was what she did in Diatu so many times.

Oh, is that what she saw? A memory of their reunion, their grand fight against the Organization? "Of course you will. We have it deep inside us because of our connection to Sora." They didn't even have to think about their strength most of the time. It was just there when they truly sought it.

Still, if that's what Xion is really afraid of... "But you also don't have to be that Xion, you're you. You can find your own strength. And that's special too."

She looked up at him. "But if your Xion shows up..." She swallowed hard. Then he and Axel would want to spend time with the other Xion, and they'd have less time for this version of herself. And seeing both together... they'd prefer the other Xion, wouldn't they?

"Then I'll have two Xions and be extra lucky." Roxas gives a tiny smile. "Won't it be the same if your Roxas shows up?"

"But... Both yous... are... you. I'm not...she... she's so much stronger than I could ever be..." she whispered. And like Roxas with her, there were somethings she pretty much could only say to Roxas. Well, in this case Roxas and Axel, since she had come so close to admitting this fear to Axel before. In that illusion maze thing. "You'll want to spend time with her instead.... not want to bother with this me..."

This partially confuses Roxas and partially doesn't. Because of course he harbors his own fears about this Xion preferring her Roxas over him. He just does his best not to think about it because he has this Xion right now. And that's what matters.

"What? I'd never want to not spend time with you. Any version of you. I don't care how strong you are, Xion. I just want you to be happy with yourself. I was your friend back when we were still learning our strengths, remember? And when you lost your ability to wield. It didn't change anything, did it? So why would it now?"

"R...really...?" she asked, looking up. She hadn't really thought of it that way. But... he was right. He and Axel had seen her at her lowest. At her worst and weakest... And they had never abandoned her. "Even... if my being so broken... causes problems?"

Roxas attempts a smile, hoping that maybe she really believes that he would never abandon her for any reason, especially a silly one like that. "Of course. Friends stick together no matter what. And you're not broken to us anyway. You're fine just the way you are."

She swallowed, but nodded a bit and smiled. "Thank you... Roxas..." she said softly.

That smile widens. "Anytime."

Her smile got wider too, and she tried to figure out how to stand up without letting go of his hand or pulling him down with her.

Luckily for her, he's going to notice her dilemma and pull her up a bit. "I guess I should tell you what memory I saw too. It was kind of funny."

"Funny?" she asked as she made it to her feet with his help. What could he have seen that was funny? Webby?

"You and Axel talking about dancing. I hope you got to go." Even if his knowledge of dancing is based on one memory of Sora imagining Kairi and Demyx's water Nobodies.

"Why.... do you hope that...?" she asked so confused.

"Because it sounds like a cool experience. You get to learn how to dance." And Roxas loves learning new things, more than ever now.

Her eyes went wide and she shook her head. "It was terrifying!"

The confusion is back in full force. "Terrifying? Why?"

"Why wouldn't it be?!" Somebodies would have to see her!

"I mean, I guess it's scary when you're still learning what to do... But you pick up on things even quicker than me!" It's that copying ability of hers.
