Race Against Time: Ongoing Mission

Once the training is over people can get to work pretty quickly, there is plenty to be done both out in the world and back at the hub for those not too keep on jumping straight in to a strange volcanic planet with creatures that probably want to eat them.

Hub

The underground hub is a centre of activity. It turns out there isn't all that much fuel for shuttles to get back up to the space station so trips are rationed, they will hold villagers and lindusi until they have full shuttles and then send them up. So the hub is busy with scientists, lindusi in holding pens and as the week goes on villagers who may not be too impressed with the evacuation.

There is food, usually large pots of soup that can be reheated whenever people are around. Though some heavier meals are provided at set times the people leading the evacuation are keen not to let any of their helpers, or those they are rescuing, starve.

Sleeping rooms hold bunk beds, usually around eight a room but as the hub fills up space gets limited. Sharing beds or sleeping on the floor may become necessary.

For those hanging around the hub as the week goes on there is plenty to do, small jobs, entertaining village children, logistics, communication. Or they can find a quiet place to rest before going back out on their mission.

Red

The skies are heavy with debris, both from space and the volcanic ash and rocks from the planet itself. The fighter craft are not difficult to pilot but nor are they easy. They cannot be piloted by one person, unless that person has four arms and space in the cockpit is tight for two people.

It's difficult work and it is probably good for everybody that the craft only fly for six hours before recharging, it means they have to work in shifts, and rest when they are not in the sky. The pilots from the world are generally friendly, if very focused.

Purple

Flying bubble pods around what seems like an apocalyptic wasteland may seem surreal and that's before they even get to the villages. The villages are mostly underground, bunkers where groups of people shelter. There are a range of ages. Some villages come easy, some do not. Diplomacy is key.

Watch out for falling rocks, rogue lindusi and angry villagers, all are threats that have to mitigated. As the week goes on the villagers get more stubborn, the earthquakes get more frequent and the villagers that are waiting to be taken off world get more impatient. It's a tough job.

Orange

The lindusi are scattered across the island. Mostly as far away from volcanoes as possible though there are a few that seem too curious for their own good.

The trucks to hold the lindusi in are kept in a central point in an area whilst the groups go out to try and round as many up as possible. The voidtreckers are encouraged to stick together as they don't know the area or threats very well.

Blue

The Blue team are to protect the scientists, both those collecting plants and other life samples and those with Orange rounding up Lindusi. Once they have the hang of the shield devices it's just a case of sticking close by, keeping both eyes open and being quick to activate shields whenever there is a threat.

There are plenty of threats, it's one thing this island has in abundance.

Purple--Slightly later

"Got your back!" Friendly incoming, as dark-energy moved to reinforce Danny's shield. Raven hovering nearby, purple-and-black uniform visible under her blue cloak and cowl, with her hand outstretched.

"You want to redirect the lizard or get the people away?" Probably a very good thing she's used to working with a team. Questions can wait for later, after all.

His concentration wavers for a moment as the dark energy sweeps across his own bright green energy shield, but he recognizes Raven in time and keeps his shield in place.

"I'll take the lizard," he says in a voice that echoes faintly. He wasn't sure what the local opinion on ghosts was, and this was probably not the time to figure it out.

He needed a better disguise; even if he hadn't outright told her he was a 'half-ghost'. At least Raven understood fully what he meant by that now. "I've got the shield then. Be careful." She'd still have his back if needed, like she trusted him to have hers.

Letting her other hand curl with dark energy, holding the shield and make it stronger.

He waits until she has the shield steady, then tosses off a quick salute as he flips up above the barrier and dives for the lizard dinosaur thing.

And there he stops for a moment, considering. He didn't want to actually hurt it, so ectoblasts and ghost ice were out. And he didn't want to spook it into charging at the shield and the people behind it.

It probably didn't weigh much more than a bus. He hoped.

Diving down, he comes up underneath it and focuses. It takes a few seconds to spread his own sense of weightlessness across something this large. But after that its a simple matter to just lift it over his head and fly the extremely startled lizard off to a safe distance from the settlement.

Holding the shield wasn't hard for her, as most of Raven's attention was on reassuring the villagers. Who had abandoned their argument at the first sign of ghost-boy and shield and rampaging Lindusi. Not that they were eyeing Raven with glee either...

Fear radiated off them easily, with adrenaline and uncertainty. Which would just tie into more fear if Raven didn't do something.

"It's alright--He's with me. We're Void-Warriors." Still hints of fear, but they recognized what she'd said at least. The Void Warriors were supposed to help them right?

Trying also to keep an eye on Danny, in case he needed a hand. Even on the Titans when they were working solo, they tried to watch out for each other if they could. It's what you did with a team.

To be perfectly honest, Danny wasn't expecting any back up at all. His team ups up to his point had been exclusively of the type where his enemies (or people who thought they were his enemies) agreed to stop fighting each longer just long enough to deal with a bigger threat.

And even then it wasn't unusual for his enemies to take the opportunity to take a shot at him, if the chance came up.

He didn't think Raven would fit into any of those categories, since she'd been pretty cool about the ghost thing so far. But he also wasn't expecting any actual help.

Five minutes later he swoops down from his quick trip.

"Its okay! You can drop the shield. I moved it away."

It's okay--he'll learn how to work with a team. Raven certainly didn't intend to be his enemy, or anyone's enemy on the train if she could. She wasn't generally fond of enemies as it were.

Letting her dark energy dissipate and the shield drop, Raven gave her attention once more to the villagers. "I trust you'll hurry and evacuate now?" It wasn't entirely a question, even if it hadn't been delivered in her usual deadpan tone.

Danny eyes the villagers warily and tries to do his best friendly harmless ghost impression.

...Yeah, that had never really worked at home either.

"I should probably go?"

They could just as easily be reacting to Raven, considering her general appearance despite the voidtrecker's uniform. Both she and Danny were levitating, and she was wearing the concealing cowl and cloak and had the creepy 'dark' energy versus him seeming to be a ghost.

The villagers certainly didn't seem like they'd return to their arguing any more, and some of the fear was dissipating. At least from the Lindusi's sudden appearance. These were Void Warriors right, they were supposed to be strange....?

"We both should." Raven reassured Danny, before pitching her voice to the two villagers. "Go pack already!"

At least no one was screaming? And it looked like some of them were going to pack (even if he had to suspect that part of the reason was getting away from them.)

Some days Danny just had to count the small victories.

He waves at Raven and then flies off and disappears. But actually he just goes invisible and ducks behind the nearest building to change back.
