Day 11 Catfish - everybody else!

Evacuation

Once Rath and Voidtrecker volunteers go off to Blue Mountain the rest of the scientists get ready for the final evacuation off planet.

Earthquakes are regular enough now that it seems strange when the earth is not shaking. It makes it difficult to pack the last of the equipment, get the final lindusi into their containers and start boarding the shuttles.

They need help everywhere, people to ride with the lindusi, others to keep the evacuees calm. Others to carry equipment and load shuttles. People to keep children occupied and out of the way. Slowly but surely the shuttles are loaded and the journey begins.

Space Station

There are scientists and guards waiting at the space station to help unload, lindusi need unloading and taken to containing pens. People need reunited with those that evacuated before them and registered, in an attempt to make sure everyone is accounted for.

The Voidtreckers may do what they like once the work is done, a time to relax after a job well done. Or to fret about those who are still on the planet.

In the control room there is an attempt to keep radio contact with the group on the ground, but as the planet destabilises more it gets more difficult. Signs show that the planet has mere hours before it can not sustain human life anymore.

But the scientists seem to have some faith that these void warriors are up for the job.

Too many years alone, in Maglor's case. And before then, too long with family to protect. He's not used to others protecting him, or even wanting to. But he's trying not to make it too difficult or aggravating now.

While he obediently gets on ahead of Ignis, he immediately turns to make sure the man is right there boarding immediately after. But then there's no more space, and it seems the only people left are those Tony and that group went off to try and save.

"Now is the most difficult time," he murmurs to his friend, lips in a grim line. "Waiting for news."

Ignis was certainly worried about Tony, but knew that he couldn't hope to keep up with someone who could fly. The closest he'd gotten was when he had the magitek armor part where he could get to the rooftops of Altissia with. It might be worth poking into Tony's inventory to see if that could be a thing that could be made. It would be similar to Peter's webbing abilities.

"I suppose there's some comfort in knowing they're worried about you?" The advisor was trying to keep Maglor focused. "And if that were us going off on our own, they'd be the ones sitting here fretting."

Not that Ignis had any plans to make Tony worry because the man could become an overprotective suit of iron. Heavens knew that his lover had given him an earful and threatened to kick his ass if he had to go rescue him again.

Maglor would be happy to help, if Tony doesn't beat him to it!

He understands the intent, and manages a small smile for the effort. "My brother Maedhros has it the worst of us. Father made him stay behind." And for good reason.

He makes himself take a calming breath. "I had the easiest job." Keeping Ignis safe! And that gets Ignis another wry little smile.

"Stay behind?" Ignis was confused. Stay behind on the train? Or stay behind somewhere else? As far as the advisor knew, everyone had to participate in missions so he had to be misunderstanding the answer.

The easiest job tugged a smile from the advisor. "One that hopefully you will be relieved from next time." If not, Ignis was going to have some serious mental ass kicking to do because now he was returning from this particular mission hale and hearty.

"Though I do thank you for assisting my team. This whole mission was easier than the last." He had Raven to keep an eye on Madoka, Joss to watch over Romeo and Ple Two could definitely take care of herself though Ignis got status reports.

"On the space station," he amended.

Maglor doesn't quite shrug. "Tony has done much for my family and I. He did not force this task on me, I offered so as to help quiet his mind." He'd do it again, and again, so long as he knows Maedhros doesn't need him for the same protection detail.

He inclines his head. "I was glad to do it. We're all adjusting more and more to what is set for us each month."

"I see." The advisor was thoughtful. Why would Feanor do such a thing? Well it wasn't his place to ask so he wouldn't. The elves ran their family and followed their own traditions and it was none of his business how it worked and didn't.

A sigh escaped Ignis and he was quiet a moment. "I'm rather glad he's been such a huge help to you and your family." Not that he needed confirmation but it was such as to how he'd been lucky in having such a wonderful man in his life. One that he wished he could take home with him whenever the train was done with the two of them.

"That is quite true. And if we're on the same schedule it should be quiet for a little while until the next mission, giving us more time to prepare." That would mean his team specifically.

He's glad to not be asked. Maybe he'll tell Ignis later, or it will come out on its own. But not here, where others are clearly listening.

Maglor reaches out to lightly clasp and squeeze the man's shoulder, both in thanks and in understanding. He's not jealous of what Ignis and Tony have- both are good, kind men and he's glad they aren't alone.

"And we'd best make the most of it." He could guess what comes next, in a couple weeks or so. Time is a funny thing, as he'd told Tony before. "I hope you will let me know if I can help you in your preparations."

"We most certainly will." Hesitantly he raised his hand and touched the elf's arm that was reaching up to his shoulder. He appreciated the kindness the man had shown both on the field and of course here.

The kindness was extending to help after this too and he smiled gratefully. "I've need to train my team and have them function more cohesively as a unit." That included getting Madoka trained up by Raven.

"If you have the time I would appreciate the assistance. Romeo could use more hands on training." Which was true.

Maglor inclines his head in agreement, giving one more gentle squeeze before letting his arm drop back to his side.

"Just tell me when, and how challenging I should make the training. Otherwise, I'll have them start from the beginning until they show they're ready for more." He's trained children from helplessness to sure warriors.

"Let Romeo set the pace. I've found it's best to let them do a sort of telling me how ready they are." Yes Ignis is protective of his team and knows he has to push them. But he has yet to discover all that the boy can do.

Ignis couldn't help but smile as the contact broke. "I'd be grateful for an extra pair of hands to get them ready for the next time." As loathe as he is to have them on the battlefield.

[personal profile] seawanderer 2019-11-25 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Then that is how it will be. Between us, we will get them ready." Or at least better prepared. Each mission added experience, one way or another.

Ignis could feel some of the tension and stress lessening as they traveled onward. His gaze remained on Maglor and he nodded. "I cannot thank you enough for your help today and for this future project." As much as he hated asking for help, placing children on a battlefield hadn't ever been on his mind as something that he would ever do.

Children were to be protected and the advisor half felt as though he was betraying them by allowing them onto the battlefield. Not that it was his decision but he still felt badly.

[personal profile] seawanderer 2019-11-25 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Asking for help is never easy. It shows a strength though, and Maglor is glad to see Ignis possesses it- though he's not surprised by it.

"The children will be protected," he murmurs. "In and out of danger. I taught...some elflings..." prisoners/his sons/kidnapped children "how to fight and survive. They went on to help end wars."

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2019-11-25 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
The advisor nodded. He was happy to hear that those children had helped do such amazing things. Silently he wished they could end whatever this cycle was of fighting others' wars and then they could all go..

Well home, but like Tony there was nothing to go home to. And he had no idea if Maglor and his kin had anywhere to go to either. It was a saddening thought but he kept it masked.

"I would be grateful."

Elrond and Elros are and were amazing and perfect and no one can convince him otherwise.

"I wish it were not necessary," he continues quietly with almost a sigh. "Peace is never easy to maintain, no matter how much one might wish it."

Maglor inclines his head. "If I had my way, everyone would be protected." But he knows better.

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2019-11-25 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Maglor couldn't know it, but he was definitely 'preaching to the choir' as that saying went. So Ignis nodded along, recalling how much peace meant back home with a forced broken treaty, a slain king and a fallen empire due to that broken false treaty.

"Mine as well." the advisor replied softly, thinking of Noct and what he would face. And then he thought of Tony giving his life to end a war.

It's not something that needs said, really. Not among those like them.

The elf manages a wry little smile again, then glances out the viewport as the shuttle seems to slow. "Not much longer. Hopefully the last group," meaning Tony and the rest, "will join us within the day."
faithfulsupport: (You realize I don't believe you)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2019-11-25 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
A very small smile crept over Ignis' face at Maglor's words and spoke softly. "They'll come back." He had faith in Tony and his abilities. That man was beyond stubborn and thought himself made of iron, but in reality he wasn't. Anyone who knew the man knew how soft he was.

As for Feanor, Ignis had a lot of respect for him and no reason to change that. That man had to be formidable as well to have raised the children he had.

[personal profile] seawanderer 2019-11-26 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He hears the faith in Ignis' voice and it bolsters his own. Maglor finally nods, allowing himself to lean on the simple belief that sometimes things do go right.

"And we'll be there to take care of them." Right up to shoving food and water down their throats, making sure they're unharmed, or patching them up if not. And then making them sleep.

Ignis smiled at the plans Maglor is making.

"I do believe that's half the fun after all. They go off and play the big heroes and then they have to come home and answer to you."

He totally knew all about those things.
