Deep Dweller: Start

After the dreams some of the voidtreckers report on day Four of Grasshopper those that have been on the train for a little while will be expecting what comes the next day. Their SCA's glow with the colour of the void and a holographic image will appear.

Preparations and Arrival

As promised the dressing carriage is opened for optional extras. There are flight suits, similar to those they wore into space but without the helmets. There are instead hard hats and some basic climbing gear as well as bags to put supplies in. There are even a few red tents if any of those planning on tackling red's mission want to grab one, they hold six people in two inner compartments and are relatively easy to put up and take down.

They have a few hours of preparation before the announcement comes. Soon approaching system #789327772. Planet Terra. Drop order: Orange, Red, Blue, Purple. Orange to doors. Leaving the void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. A sharp jerk, a judder and the view from the window changes from the void to dark cloudy skies and very red sand.

They land smoothly, and indeed it seems they have landed on train tracks. A few moments later they pull up outside a huge metal and glass building.

Orange Team

Arrival

Jumping down from the train they will find themselves outside large metal gates. Noticable is the spotlights that shine even in the day time, reflecting oddly off the red sand. It is hot and dry outside, a slight breeze sending red dust rolling around their feet.

The gates aren't locked. There is no lock though they will notice devices that are probably security cameras. The doors are glass and inside is light and airy. They enter into a large lobby, a large circular desk in the centre and a glass walled waiting room to the side.

It is empty. No people at all. All the lights are on. Time to explore.

Exploration

Going up two floors and down five the lab is large and full of all manner of interesting things. Scientific equipment, monitoring stations measuring chemical levels in the air, temperature, water levels. Where to even start is a good question. The lights remain on, which might be annoying at night.

Red Team

Arrivals

Red team to doors. The train continues travelling along the train tracks, looking out the windows they will see endless rolling red sand. Factories rising up from the ground, dotted across the landscape. As the train gets close the air outside seems hazier, through the fumes. They may even see in the distance, strange silver floating orbs.

Eventually it pulls up at a station. Just a raised block really, but easy enough for red team to disembark.

The land stretches out around them. Train tracks criss cross the surface but apart from that there don't seem to be any boundaries. No fences, roads or sign posts.

It won't take them long to find the first orbs, strange silvery spheres and seem almost liquid, until they are not.

Night Time

It grows dark quickly after sunset here, which might take them by surprise. Taking them more by surprise however may be the scraping, scuttling noises in the dark. Skittering close. There is no light out here on the surface, they are far away from the research facility that Orange found themselves in.

If anyone manages to catch a glimpse they will see grey, long limmbed creatures. They shy away from light but anyone in the dark is likely to be attacked. They fight with claws and teeth.

When the sun rises they are gone.

Blue Team

Arrival

Blue team to doors. The train continues across the landscape, passing more orbs, just floating there silently. It stops at the entrance of a cave.

The cave slopes downwards into darkness and soon turns into small tunnels. They don't need to go far when they meet the first ground of Gry. A group of young Gry, practising with spears in an wider section of cave.

Despite being very surprised at the sudden visitors no weapons are pointed at the voidtreckers, instead they are met with curiosity. They are soon led further into the tunnels and soon come to the living areas.

The Gry lead simple lives but they are all pretty fascinated to see their visitors and will allow them to look around their home and answer any questions they have.

Night Time

Most of the Gry sleep in a large communal sleeping area and the Voidtreckers are welcome to join them, though the Gry won't be insulted if they choose to seek out a more private area.

If the Voidtreckers awake in fear in the night, after strange dreams they will find they are not alone. Many of the Gry have awoken too and will reassure the Voidtreckers, tell them it is an honour to communicate with The Burrower.

Purple

Arrival

Purple team to doors. The train continues on the tracks and soon enters a tunnel itself. It's a bit of a bumpy trip, this train was clearly not made for warren systems but after some uneasy twists and turns they pull to a stop.

They are at a train station, not that it's easy to see because it is pitch black. But it is clear there are people around, some looking very confused at the very odd train.

Once the last of those going on the mission leave the train it speeds off into the darkness.

The Terran's are large and tower over most of the voidtreckers but they are friendly enough, if a little confused, once it is explained that they are here to help. They will be led over towards the collapsed section of city.

There is a lot of activity. People digging at rubble, others using their sheer size and strength to hold up beams. There is an array of rescue equipment and a group of official-looking Terran's holding large devices that are comparable to a tablet-computer and discussing solutions.

There is plenty to do to help, smaller rubble to clear, injured people to tend to. Worried Terran's to calm and reassure. Those brave enough can volunteer to use their smaller size to help get supplies through to those trapped and those with any scientific know how, great strength or magic can put their skills to good use.

Rest Time

Throughout the day people are rescued and other parts of the tunnels stabilised. There is more work to be done but the Terran's seem to be working in shifts and they will encourage their surprise allies to rest as well. They will offer to host them.

They live in large groups and will happily invite the voidtreckers into their homes. They will be curious about the voidtreckers but will also answer questions. Telling them about the strange storm and the collapse of the tunnels. They are urged to sleep early and the next day it will be back to work.

One advantage of training with his master; his ability to see in the dark without light was pretty decent because of it. All just to save money.

"Precise information I assume? Though for what purpose do we need information right now when there are people trapped?"
adregem: (listen up.)

He nods at Allen in acknowledgment. Roland has yet to realize that he's probably alone squinting in the dark right now, eyes still adjusting to the moving figures in the shadows. Gah, if only I had a torch.

"That's true, but having people trapped is precisely why we need to get information. We can't just charge into unknown territory, we might just make things worse." It's basic field rescue tactics - scope it out, then act accordingly. Even more so now that he can't see past his own face and they're underground...

Roland starts walking to the nearest Terrans, who he gestures to silently for Allen to see. "We should probably start by introducing ourselves to the citizens. Tell them we're here to assist." Though if he's walking slowly, it's only because he doesn't have night-vision. It's really hard to move when it's this level of dark...

"But it also means we don't know how much time we have to get them out either. If we have to ask questions, that might be the best one to ask." He was thinking of things like how long could one actually survive trapped as that would at least calm him down a little bit.

But he stopped for a moment. "Watch your step, there are some rocks in front of you that you could trip up on."
adregem: (guess i landed on my feet.)

"Gah -!"

The warning comes just a tad bit too late, as he trips slightly against the pile of rocks nestled in the dirt. He steadies himself with both arms outstretched before regaining his balance. With an incredulous look about him, Roland can only say, "You can see that?" before he resumes his stride away from the platform and closer to Terran civilization.

"And you bring up a good point. You're right about making sure we don't delay - we do need to move fast so casualties, if any, are minimum at best." He finally spots some Terrans grouped together in three's, some of them turned their way as if expecting them to approach. Looked like a good start. "Why don't you lead the questions," he nods at the Terrans' general direction as subtly as possible. "And I'll follow." He honestly trusts that the Terrans will be able to give them the best account of the said casualties brought about by the explosion, and judging from the way they were built...They might even be faring better than expected. Still - they shouldn't be taking that chance. Roland's questions will be economical at best.

"Yeah... Had to do a lot of training without light to save money." Yep, that was the reason and considering the number of debts he had to be paying off back home it was at least to him a rather good reason to do such a thing.

But at being told to lead the questions Allen paused for a moment. Sure, he had to ask questions when he worked as a police officer in the last world for a time, but it had been a brief moment of his mind going blank because he didn't think about what questions would be needed.

"Um... Okay... Uh... I can do that... I hope." He laughed nervously before going to make his way over, speaking to them as he soon seemed to become less tense. Once he had figured he had asked the right questions, mostly about how long people have been trapped and if for the most part if they were to move things how likely would it collapse, he looked over at the other.

"Anything you want to add?"
adregem: (look forward to tomorrow.)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-07-11 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Huh. You couldn't train during daylight, so you didn't need to turn on so many lights?" That was an interesting connection to say the least, but Roland wasn't one to question things like that too deeply. Circumstances are different for everyone, after all.

When they reach the Terrans, Roland falls into a nice rhythm with Allen leading the questions. He takes note of all the details, humming and nodding along with their answers. For the most part, that was all they needed to know. The last thing Roland adds when prompted by his companion was relatively simple: "No, nothing. But it would be greatly appreciated if you could lead us to the site itself, so we can start to assist your rescue efforts already in place."

He nods with a smile to Allen, and gets ready to trek deeper into the underground darkness. "Nice work. Are you ready?"

"We traveled during the day, so no we didn't really have a lot of time to train." if you could maybe getting thrown into situations as training, then technically yes.

But with the questions done, he figured that now they were going to be taken to where they needed to get to work, but with that in mind Allen's thoughts were more on how they were going to do that exactly. Allen at least knew he had a method, though he hadn't tested it out since his arm changed all that time ago.

"Ready as I can be. Do you think you can move rubble, or do you need me to take care of the bigger parts?"
adregem: (the hard work begins.)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-07-14 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Roland catches that movement from the corner of his eye and he looks fairly intrigued. He places a finger under his chin.

"I...can slice through rocks as needed, but I can shift to do manual labor if structural damage is too sensitive for big movements." He tilts his head at Allen. "What do you mean take care of bigger parts? Do you have some special ability?"

Because that would really help.
mynameisallen: (90)

[personal profile] mynameisallen 2020-07-19 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not special ability, no." His arm is just strange in many different ways. Being unusually strong previously just happened to be one of the many strange things about it. If one can hold up a pillar with very little effort then, he wondered if he could now even though various factors have changed.

"Just something that I could do once upon a time and I could lift things that were considered heavy."
adregem: (someone's always behind.)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-07-19 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see. Well, if you can lend us that power even now, I'm sure the Terrans would be grateful. We have to move fast and careful...One totally collapsed tunnel could cause the entire structure they've built to bury us all."

Not that he was scaring Allen, but more of Roland musing out loud on how to proceed from hereon out.

"Let me know if I can aid you in any way, maybe hand you a Potion if you're feeling tired."
mynameisallen: (145)

[personal profile] mynameisallen 2020-07-20 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I understand. But I also know that means one has to be careful in how things get moved too."

Nope. No pressure here at all. But he found himself blinking for a moment before shaking his head rather quickly at the mention of potions.

"No. No, no. I will be okay without potions, thank you."
adregem: (let me explain a little.)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-07-21 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
That was...an unexpected reaction to Potions.

"I see. I'm guessing you have an allergy?" He quips. "What should we give you if you need a pick-me-up?"
mynameisallen: (240)

[personal profile] mynameisallen 2020-07-23 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
"No, more if it's the kind it could be I just have bad memories of experiments gone wrong with potions. If it's the other...then they are okay, but I have no clue what kind you are on about" Really not at all fun times. Thanks Komui for that one.

"I usually don't need one..." Or he rather doesn't in most worlds minus one.
adregem: (i've got it under control believe it or)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-07-24 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm...I see. That's unfortunate, then. I'm sorry that brought up some bad memories for you." Though Roland does see some problems arising from having Allen get hurt but not having anything to treat him with. "Just let us know if you need a break, then. Alright? Better to have you recharged for the work ahead than pushing you to injury."

He offers an encouraging smile.

[personal profile] mynameisallen 2020-07-24 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
"It's fine, I take a lot before I ever get tired." The sad thing is.... that was actually true and even then he could just use his innocence to control him and keep him going.

"I will start over here if that is okay? Looks like there are a few in need of help after all."
adregem: (the hard work begins.)

[personal profile] adregem 2020-07-24 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course! Let's keep in touch. I'll get to work on getting us a map for reference, get these tunnels cleared out ASAP."

He salutes Allen with a wave against his temple. "Good luck, soldier."
