Event: Healing Waters

"Good morning passengers, it is day twenty three of the month of Grasshopper. All passengers of the Voidtrecker Express require rest. Next stop Jema’grethy Island. All passengers prepare to disembark."

It is a very strange morning message that rings through the train on the morning of day twenty three but as the passengers of the Voidtrecker Express wake their screens glow with the colour of the void and a holographic screen pops up for them to read.

World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.

The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving today and leaving on day twenty six of the month of Grasshopper. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.

It is time for a holiday it seems!

Preparation

For those who go to explore the dressing carriage they will find a variety of beachwear and wetsuits. One cupboard has a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours.

One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.

It seems they are in for quite an adventure.

Arrival

"Shortly arriving on World #2554098133741. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."

The train lurches and rattles as it leaves the void they will get a glimpse of silver-purple sky and a beautiful ocean below.

However some passengers might be a little more than distracted, one staring at that table for a second too long, another seeming lost in thought for a couple of seconds, a longer than normal pause in a sentence. They see a vision, a glimpse of a life that is not their own. Not all at once, but here and there as the train descends to the island.

But then it is gone and things are back to normal. Just in time, as they come to land.

Jema’grethy Island

The train has landed on a grassy ridge, overlooking a beautiful beach of white sand and the ocean beyond. It is warm, but not too hot, a cool ocean breeze cutting through the heat making it pleasant. Behind them is a grassy plain, changing to forest in the distance. There is the sound of birdsong in the purple sky. To the west the land is more craggy, the silhouette of a fortress in the distance. In a word, it is idylic. A sense of peace permeates the island.

A little more worrying is the volcano-like structure in the north. But even a quick glance will show it is not a typical volcano. There is no smoke and the liquid slowly running down it in rivulets is pink and blue.

Exploring the passengers will find beautiful beaches, ragged cliffs to walk and caves to explore. Where it is more craggy the beaches are made of pebbles- perfect for rock pooling.

The place has no people, but it is clearly maintained. The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.

Ruins of ancient houses are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.

There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.

Hot Springs

To the west are the hot springs. They have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.

Perfect for overly stressed, world weary Void heroes...

Crouching down, Ichigo reached for the pole and gave the cat a considering look. "You're not gonna shapeshift into a naked woman and flash all your goods at me, are you?" It was a legitimate question, and he had no desire to deal with another Yoruichi.

With a laugh, Ichigo picked up the pole and stood upright again. "Then as long as you share with my cat and me, you have yourself a deal." He slung the bundle over his shoulder with the other pole, his black and white kitten sniffing at Spark for a moment before plodding through the sand after him. "I'm Ichigo, by the way."

He returned the sniff and nodded. "Of course, fish tastes best when shared!" He gave Ichigo a bright smile and trotted along beside him. "I'm Spark."

"Nice to meet you, Spark. I'm Ichigo, and that's my still unnamed cat. Haven't figured out what to call him yet, so I'm keeping my options open." He was pretty sure the black and white bengal wasn't going to respond to 'manipulative little bastard'.

"I recommend calling him.... when it is time for dinner." Have a feline grin. Then he blinked. Ichigo. He felt like he knew that name... or was it a word that sounded like it that he knew? Felt like an Adrien thing but he wasn't sure... but still, had to say something. "Even if you're itchy you can still stay with us if you want, no need to go."

Ichigo stopped walking and looked down at the orange cat. "Oh great, you pun." He'd almost prefer the shapeshifting. But he grinned anyway. "Alright, come on. Let's see if we can find a good spot on shore to fish from. If there are any deep rock pools those should be profitable."

"Yep, it is great that I pun. And deeper is better. That sort of pool might rock my world in all the worst ways.

Groaning at the puns, Ichigo spotted what looked to be the edge of a rock pool. "Let's give that one a shot. I'll get both lines going and then we can enjoy the sun while we wait."

"No. One is your line and the other is mine. I'm gonna try and get some fish to stock the train up. And get some octopus."

"Not sure how you're going to manage that, but okay! Tie the line on mine around my middle and launch me when ready!"

"What?!" Ichigo looked incredulously at Spark as he found the perfect spot. "Absolutely not! That isn't how fishing works. I have extra hooks here, and plenty of bait. So I'll tie a hook to each line, put bait on the hooks and put them in the water, then wait for a bite. I will not, under any circumstance, fling you into the water!"

"What?" he asked, seeming horrified. "Why not? Why are you so mad that you won't let me get to have fun fishing too?"

And then have the big wide watery kitty eyes. "I could say please and promise to be good..."

"You could drown! I'm not going to let a fellow passenger drown when I can prevent it!" Those sad kitty eyes were not going to work on Ichigo. He ignored them and got to work tying hooks on both lines and baiting them.

"I wouldn't drown! I would never drown! I fish like this all the time back home!"

"Answer's still no." Shaking his head, Ichigo just got both poles ready and put the lines in the water. He hoped he'd picked a good pool for fishing, so he could fill the buckets easily.

"Oh come on, it's fun, and besides, no human is as good at fishing as me, that's why they call it cat fishing in the first place."

Ichigo snorted softly. "Here I thought cat fishing meant catching catfish. Never had those myself, but I hear some people love it." Once both lines were in the water, Ichigo got the poles anchored in some sand and rocks, and took a seat on the beach.

"Ah, it's fine, you were only off by a whisker. So now you'll launch me?"

"No." Ichigo said simply. "You want my help catching fish, I'm willing. But not in a way that means flinging you at the water." He was genuinely afraid he would hurt Spark.

"Do... do you hate me?" he asked, slinking down and looking pathetic and sad.

Not the sad kitty face. Anything but the sad kitty face. Sighing, Ichigo reached over to scritch Spark's ears and smiled a little. "Of course I don't hate you. But I am worried I'd hurt you. Yeah, you're a talking cat, but you're still a cat. I have more strength than I look like, and even when I do my best, I'm not always good at holding back. What if I threw you so hard the line snapped and you got caught in a rip tide?"

He leaned into the scritches and huffed. "Oh fine fine, but it is more fun to fish together... and no human can get enough fish for me without my help..." Could he turn this into more fish at least? He was going ti try....

Ichigo smiled a little at that as Spark's pole started to bob with a fish. He stopped scritching the ginger cat's ears and picked up the pole to reel it in. "Well, here's your first fish." Grinning, Ichigo plopped the fish into one of the buckets and used the other one to add some water to it. "Huh. Should have gotten a few big leaves I can gut the fish onto so I can use the guts for more bait."
