Memory Cave

After the passengers see a glimpse of a life that is not their own they appear in a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.

They are not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker. Maybe someone they know well, maybe someone they have only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave together.

The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.

But for that time to come, they first must talk...

Color both of them confused. A weasel? But it had been good memories, still!

"I guess you had a point when you tried to warn me earlier, huh?" Xander had to laugh, though. "It's not bad like you thought it was, I think."

He shook his head a little, and then sat down. No obvious exit meant for sure they'd probably be there for a bit. Xander could probably make a way out with his powers of earth, but that just didn't seem like the right thing to do, and going with his gut was usually what he did.

"So...do you want to ask me about what you saw, or should I start?" None of it was bad! He was a little apprehensive, but there didn't seem to be any reason to be too worried about any of it.

Romeo laughed at that, though he's still a bit nervous. Less so than before. This second memory... He doesn't think he was in Xander's life at all. He was just seeing Xander's life. This isn't a normal memory dream.

"Um it was a bit strange but I saw lots of family. Lots of people who liked me... you? Very much."

He doesn't remember his own family, but he has lots of friends and he thinks the feeling must almost be the same!

"Yeah, it kind of surprised me too, when it happened." It still surprises Xander to this day, if he's completely honest, but he's not sure he really wants to admit it.

He turns his right hand over, looking down at the bar code on his wrist. "Almost makes me feel like a real boy!" But he has to laugh at that. It's a lame joke, really.

"So...a weasel? And you serve a deity?" He might be darn near an atheist, even considering his heritage, but Xander still thought that was pretty neat. "So can you do that now even? You don't need to show me, though!" He lifted his hands then. Especially since Xander wasn't sure what kind of energy that took. He knew some of his powers took a lot out of him when they were used. Mostly the Earth magic, but still!

A real boy? Romeo shuffled a bit closer to Xander, looking at the barcode on his wrist. It takes him a moment to place it, it's not something he's seen lots of. But he remembers one time when they went to a big shop in Japan and all the food had marks like that, to scan. He frowned but then nodded with a grin.

"I can! Well... Elfnein can. She's my goddess and she's on the train with me so she can make me be a weasel! I can't do it on my own! Wait you saw me as a weasel?"

"Oh, that's who you must have been with, then! Little blonde girl? Well. Not too little, but littler than me." That doesn't mean that much, Xander...

"Yeah, at least I think so. It was more like she had the weasel in her hands and you were looking down at her and the weasel? But your body had disappeared?"

It was a bit weird, but Artepus was full of people with magic like that. Or just straight-out shapeshifting, though it was rare that someone who was bigger could get that small...

"Yes!" Romeo nodded with a smile, "That's her!"

He had been a weasel in the memory, that must have been confusing for mister Xander! It was confusing for Romeo a lot of the time!

"That is my weapon form! Were we fighting a big monster? When Elfnein calls my shinki name I become her weapon for real and that means I am a weasel but though I am the weasel I can see everywhere around me! So I am both. Sort of, but this body disappears until she calls me back!"

"No, this was her turning you into a weasel for the first time, I think. There was the Naming of Names, like one of the rituals my mom or my brother does when they're trying to call powerful elementals..."

And Xander knew that names were important. So he wasn't about to repeat them. Not without the permission of those involved, and while Romeo was here? Elfnein was not here to ask, so Xander wasn't about to breathe a word of those so-important Names. For their own safety, Elfnein and Romeo's--and even Xander's, maybe. He wasn't an Earth Master like Jade and Alex, and even then, they invoked circles and other things to protect them. Despite the cave, he wasn't certain there was anything to protect him in that way.

Not that he thought for a second that Romeo would hurt him.

Romeo's eyes widened. That had been a long time ago, his second ever day! It was strange that Xander had seen that!

"Your mum and brother can do things like that as well?" He's not a powerful elemental but maybe they could bind those, like a god could bind spirits. "That's how gods help people, they bind spirits as their shinki and then they can fight the monsters that want to hurt everyone, and we help them answer prayers as well!"

He grinned, "It was a bit scary when I first woke up because I didn't know anything except my name and then we went to a theme park and that was really fun but I didn't know what anything was! But Elfnein helped me and then she let me stay at her temple and then she realised I was supposed to be her shinki!"

"They're Earth Masters, stronger than me. I'm just an Earth mage. Though there are other things I can do that they can't." Like empathy. Xander knew that came straight from Camael, but he'd never really tried to have long discussions with his father.

It was kind of hard to do, when your father was an angel. (Not to mention he still had problems reconciling that. Alex's father? Sure! His? Um.)

"That sounds a little bit like when I'd first get out of the Artificers' lab. I knew the concepts? But coming in contact with things I never knew? That was kind of weird! Was it scary? My experience wasn't really--until I realized I'd have to go back." That was the part that sucked.

He nodded, "It was a bit scary. But not really because Elfnein helped me and everyone was really nice and they explained things to me and taught me."

But Xander hadn't known lots of things either? "What's an Artificer? Why were you in their lab? Why was it scary to go back? Were they bad?"

If he didn't want to go back to them maybe the artificers were bad and made Xander scared? Were they his bosses? Was that why he had to go back to them?
