Memory Cave

After the passengers see a glimpse of a life that is not their own they appear in a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.

They are not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker. Maybe someone they know well, maybe someone they have only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave together.

The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.

But for that time to come, they first must talk...

[Of the trio, Enna is the first one to come to. She saw... Something. But she lacks context of any kind for so much of it, it seemed almost incomprehensible to her. An... arcade? Games? 'Sailor V'?

The talking cat doesn't even register on Enna's weirdness scale. Instead, she just looks around at the cave.]

This isn't where I was a minute ago. I hope someone stops my boat from sinking while I'm not in it.

Alice | Crowley

Crowley was not one for visions, he had only ever gotten them when he'd been given direct orders from Hell and even then, it had been a very long time, several years at least, when he'd been given the anti-christ to deliver to it's new family.

As he had stepped off of the train onto the island, he was given a memory, it felt like his own, but it had definitely never happened to him. Despite the fact that Crowley often lacked plenty of common sense or human knowledge, he had a sense that he knew who it had belonged to, given some clues from their previous conversations on the train, the matching voice, and eventually the confirmation of the other man, calling him Alice.

Crowley was a fairly private person, and he sensed that Alice was as well. Being such, he felt it best to not mention this to anyone, especially considering what this memory had entailed. Crowley was no stranger to the cruelty of humanity, they had been made in God's own image after all, and She was as cruel as she was loving.

This time was different, the memory that had struck him was pleasant, whimsical, and Crowley felt himself feeling quite calmed by it. Not just in the sense that it was nice to see Alice enjoying herself, but also in that it brought him peace in a weird empathic way. Aziraphale had always been the more empathic of the two, a being of love could feel it emanating from others, but not Crowley. At least not until this moment.

Coming-to in a cave was a shock to his senses, but seeing Alice across from him set him at ease. It didn't feel the same as the memories had, but it didn't feel quite real, either. He stared quietly at her for a moment before finally speaking, his voice soft in the darkness.

"Is this another memory of yours?"

One moment Ichigo was on the beach watching his cat play in the sand. Then he'd seen and heard a pretty damn inspiring speech by a kid and felt a deep sense of pride at the boy's strength. He'd blinked, and now he was in some sort of cave with glowing moss on the walls. "Alright, this is officially weird as fuck."

She'd been exploring the ruins, just coming out of a small structure and looking toward the next thing she wanted to check out, when Itsuki found herself sinking into another... whatever these were. But it was something else this time. A meal at a dining room table in... what was probably a home? Definitely home. Her home. Floor to ceiling windows, her baby brother in a high chair, her papa setting out dinner, her mama talking about work and calling her by her name a moment later as she demonstrates significant respect and good manners. They say their thanks, Itsuki not even thinking about that, the one thing that doesn't need consideration, it'd be automatic from her too.

Everyone is happy. Everyone is enjoying themselves. Everyone is smiling-

-the memory ends, and Itsuki can't feel the heat of the kitchen or the sea breeze on her skin anymore, but she's got control of herself again, eyes screwed shut as her heart breaks over something she doesn't even know the origin of. Or, well she does, now, but it's... not that. No, she knows exactly why she's hurting, and as she stands in a random cave in the middle of nowhere, in a purple hoodie and apparently no other street clothes except her socks and shoes, hair slightly damp, she lets out a single, soft sob with her hands clasped tight to her chest.

It's fine, there wasn't anyone before to hear her, so there shouldn't be anyone now. She'll just be depressed about it for a few minutes (like yesterday!), do her best to shake it off, and try to smile through the rest of her day. It's... it's a vacation. No tears here.

The memory of that musical tone still ringing in his ears, Glorfindel opened his eyes to realize he was inside a cave that, for some reason, reminded him heavily of the Halls of Waiting. He looked around carefully, smiling at the human girl in there with him.

"This...this is some sort of mental space," he said, after a moment. He was not currently in his own body. He hoped that wouldn't cause a setback in his reconnecting.

He looked at the girl, Cassie, Cassie Lang. He'd seen her with her father twice now. Once as an adult, the other, from the perspective, she was much much younger. But the music had brought her such joy.

When they'd spoken earlier, she also had one of his memories, so he was certain she'd gotten another as well. He wondered which one it was.

"Your father means a lot to you, doesn't he?"

One moment he had been with Quatre, enjoying the breeze coming from the sea as they sat on towels together. Amira was chasing a tiny little crab, which was proving to be very amusing. Suddenly he was seeing things he knew had never happened to him, he'd never had such a pleasant upbringing. The flash of happy childhood ended, leaving Trowa in the glowing cave and looking around. When his eyes landed on Jessie, a faint smile crossed his face. "Ah, now that odd moment on the train makes more sense. I knew it couldn't have been a product of my own mind, we do have different parts after all."

Xion was more than rocked by the power of that memory. As soon as she arrived she fell to her knees, hands to her chest. It hurt. Why did it hurt? She was shaking as she fought to stay even that much upright. She didn't know where she was or why or how. And she didn't know that what had hurt was the strength and depth of... emotion.

Oh the fear she understood and recognized. But pride... she wouldn't have been able to name it, to explain it, to know what it was. It was a lot for someone who thought she had no emotions, who really did but tended to feel things in a smaller way...

Oh, what the hell now.

After living through the strange dream about a guy and a girl in a shitty hotel room, Reno found himself locked in a gloomy cave with nowhere to go. The bio-luminescent cave might have actually been kinda cool to explore if it wasn't for the fact that it had bad timing and no exit and he wasn't in such a foul mood from the weird daydreams that were now plaguing him. So much for a nice, relaxing vacation.

He looked around the cave for signs of a hidden exit or at the least a tunnel to traverse but all he spotted was the girl on the opposite side of the space. He scowled on reflex. That wasn't at all helpful in his opinion. He didn't want to be stuck anywhere much less here with some random chick and no clear escape.

The sense that if they just did the right thing an exit would appear didn't actually make him feel any better either. It just made him more annoyed with the situation.

He sighed in resignation and gazed at the girl some more. Figuring out puzzles and investigating was what Turks did, he could do this. From various context clues he figured she had to be the one from the two daydreams--memories?--that he had experienced now, which was an odd thing in and of itself. He had never met her and barely knew her face from roster memorization and random crossings on the train. Why was he seeing her memories from a first-person perspective? Was she--?

Shit. He cursed under his breath the moment the thought occurred to him. If he was getting images of her shit, it was entirely probable she was getting shit from him in return. He didn't fucking ask for this! This train was really starting to piss him off.

"Hey!" he called out and the ire was obvious in his voice. It didn't matter if he wasn't mad at her directly--she was the only thing in view that could respond to his indignation and she was going to get it whether she deserved it or not. He began to stomp towards her. "Hey, bitch. I'm talking to you!"

Gladio opened his eyes to find himself in a strange cave. Almost ghostly in appearance, he found himself standing and looking up, the ceiling was far enough he would have to jump to reach it. It was wide enough to move around, so he didn't feel confined, even though there was clearly no way out. Yet.

He had a feeling there was a 'yet', but he didn't understand why... or when that yet would come.

"... The hell is going on here?"

Gerome sat on stone, a confused frown, wrinkling his brow. Where was he? And what was that vision? Another one? Who was the man? And the... whatever that was? Who was Sheik?

"I do not understand any of this..." He murmured to himself and lifted a hand to rub at his temple... and realised that his mask was gone. Gerome dropped his hand and looked around quickly. But no... his mask was not there...

As soon as they first memory hit them, Wester knew who it belonged to.

It made too much sense, after all. All of the odd inconsistencies, the nonsense Xue Yang babbled on about- but it wasn't Wester's place to question A-Qing's decision, or even confront her about it. She had to have her reasons, after all.

So they spent most of their day scurrying in the ruins, avoiding the group and especially A-Qing while they searched for a reason why.

And now...

They stare down A-Qing, blinking- and slowly lift their arm and wave.

"Um. Hi?"

[He had wondered why he had seen that weird image to begin with it. It had been so odd, nothing that he had ever experienced in his life. Considering that the clothing and the conversation were not something that existed in his world. But now, as he saw a second one, he was beginning to realize that this was the memory of someone else on the train.

It was... war. Even without context of places or people, it still looked the same. But it was also wasn't so bad either, these two together.

And then just like that, he was in a cave. And there was only one other person there. Logic meant it could only be one person]

Danny awakes,blinking, from the memory. Some kind of weird settlement, and trying to protect people from being experimented on? Which, okay, that did kind of sound like something he'd do. If punching the jerk of the day wasn't an option. But he was also very certain that he'd never heard of the Burnish or the Foresight Foundation.

He really wanted to know what was going on now. First these weird memories, and now a cave?

He turns to look at the other passenger who'd shown up in here with him.

"Okay, I'm totally in the dark here. You got any ideas?" The pun was entirely intended.

[ Kitty blinks a few times as the sudden, strange memory fades, and she places a hand to her forehead. ]

[ Was it weird that the strangest thing about that was that she just really wanted a plum right now?

As she becomes more aware, though, she glances around, realizing that her surrounds are vastly different than they were just a moment ago. ]

This snippet is definitely different than the first. Before, it had just been a blip -- a sudden flash of images. That had been disconcerting enough . . . particularly when it involved a man floating with a mass of shining blades around him, ready to pierce through. Ran had caught her breath then, her stomach tightening sharply. For a moment it was so real; that man had been in danger, and as much as the blades turned her stomach, the urge to get to him, to get those blades away had been strong.

But she'd just been a passenger. That much had been clear. There'd been a man in an iron suit angry with her for being there, angry with her for coming even as she'd argued back to be allowed to stay. She could only watch with a certain detachedness, feeling mouth and muscles move in pre-prescribed words, pre-prescribed actions. They'd peered down at the man surrounded by blades and started to form a plan.

It had been dizzying, and she hadn't been sure what to make of it even when coming back to herself. Though she'd continued with her day, it had lingered, and she'd returned to it frequently, sorting through the thoughts and emotions it invoked. Tension. Determination. Worry about appeasing and pleasing someone very much admired.

This time is different. She's small, afraid as a -- drone? her brain supplies the word -- advances on her, people screaming, shouting, chaos.

Then . . . a man like before, in a similar suit, fighting off the drone.

Safe . . . she's safe.

Joy. Awe. Admiration.

These linger as Ran opens her eyes, finds herself in a small, cave-like room.

Finds Peter Parker sitting across from her.

"Peter-san?" She'd like to feel relaxed, particularly as the last feelings from the memory linger, but she's not where she's supposed to be . . . and there's no visible exit. Immediately she's on her feet.

She's perched on a cliff, clothing fluttering in an oddly sweet breeze from the north. Assessing, thinking idly of where she wants to go next. The mountain--? But after all this time, solitude has started to feel alien, and she finds her gaze drawn down to the beach, watching the distant back-and-forth of some kind of game. Maybe--

A lurch, and a lingering aftertaste of dread, awe, fear, fading like a bad memory before she can even properly note it. The simple sensation of white fur under her fingertips has her think, Rieper yesterday, is she Lan Wangji, now? But the hand running over the rabbit's fur is small, cold against the warmth of the animal. A kid. A kid, thinking of death, and freedom, and resolve. She can't call it happiness. Grim satisfaction, maybe.

She knows the feeling, but to experience it so harshly...

Things become a little clearer, when her knees meet cool stone and damp moss, and her eyes meet Rieper's across the small cave.

"... You again, huh?"

Nerdanel opens her eyes and blinks across at Rapunzel.

"Oh! Why, I had heard that the Lady Luthien wove a cloak of sleep from her hair, but I had never heard of healing hair before." She smiles at her.

Ai Haibara | Galo

The two memories, in isolation, seem very... odd. A memory of being an odd but mundane(?) firefighter, and a memory of fighting that man with... fire powers. But Haibara has enough clues to put things together. Both about the life of the man she remembers and what's possibly going on here.

The first is... well, she's been getting inoculated on the possibility of unreasonable, fictitious things being possible. Burnish, they could wield fire. Firefighting became a mix of rescue operations and fighting against arson-based terrorism. Something like that, right?

The second is a greater cause for concern. The fact Conan had a memory not his own and had shared that with Haibara was the biggest hint. Then Haibara's own memories, ones that didn't even come from her world... the fact that she was now trapped in a cave, with an unsettling knowledge that the exit will appear once the time is right.... and seeing the man in the cave with her.

The pieces were falling into place in her mind, and she didn't like the look of this finished puzzle.

Reigning in her fears, she spoke up. "So, what did you see?"

Nhhhhhh... [That's the first thought, and Katsuya groans as he sits up, rubbing his head. This was a stranger sort of vision, he thinks to himself. It felt more like when he has visions of the past- and yet somehow even stranger, more clearer. He could liken it as well to witnessing memories in the Virtual World, but that wasn't it either.

This was through someone's eyes after all.

The first time he was incredibly short- and he idly recalled catching a glimpse of the same girl he'd spoken to over the ICPs not long before the train announced it would be stopping. This time, not only was Ran there, but he was taller again. He could tell he was taller even, he's been abruptly swapped between big and small before (even if it was in a computer simulation).

So small, then big, and then....Shinichi?

Katsuya opens his eyes, finding himself already aware of who he is about to look at. What, he is about to look at. Short stature, glasses, brown hair, blue eyes....

He studies the 'kid', and tilts his head ponderingly.]

...

...Huh, [he ultimately says.]

Righ', I'm gonna give y' a minute 'r so t' decide on th' excuse yer gonna make b'fore I smash it, I'm thinkin'.

[He's curious, alright. He's just, really curious about what this Conan-Shinichi guy thinks is going on.]

It seemed like something was going on. The first memory he didn't really know what to make of, but not much really happened. But with the second one and finding himself in a place he doesn't recall... Now he was just confused.

He looked around for a moment, trying to keep calm and keep his barring together.

"I guess being sent here means we have to do something..."

Catra's not taking this whole thing very well.

When the first vision had hit on the train, she'd slapped a hand on the back of her neck and scratched her nails along quickly, searching for a device that was removed not all that long ago. It had connected her into a hivemind; had filled her head with memories she hadn't made and information she'd had no business knowing, and had drained her of all her free will in exchange.

The chip hadn't been there, of course. That hadn't stopped the horrible sinking feeling of fear or the urge to defend herself rising to absurd heights.

So if Lea's had any bad feelings at all over the last day - put it down to Catra, who now is glaring at him with hackles raised and claws out, her pupils contracted in both panic and fury.

"What are you doing?!" She snarls, still blinking away the disorienting images of Isa and Ventus and candy-branded discs. The memory of a sun is still warm on her face, and the vision of a towering building still lingers clear in her mind. The confusion of it is the only thing that's stopped her from lashing out an assault immediately; but it won't hold her back for very long. Lea's got probably about until she realizes she's now in a cave, before those claws come flying at his face.

The emotions are big. Big heavy good feelings that are not quite his own. Having a family, lots of bits of family. People loving him and caring for him, being accepted.

The scenes flicker quick and he is in a cave. Facing the man with wings once again.

"Oh. Hello again mister Xander."

He's very confused. Memory dreams were normal but this... None of this was normal.

[Allen looked around, slightly confused toward the situation. But there was at least one thing he could understand. This world was fucking with them or at least... someone or something was fucking with them and that was enough to worry him.

He had recognized at least one name mentioned in what he saw, so he had an inkling as to what he was seeing and that... that was not at all good. When he finally clocks on to the fact there is someone else around he is quick to respond.]

Ah, uh... hi there... I get the feeling you have something to do with what I saw... right?
