So Familiar a Gleam: Start

JINNJAR CITY
"Welcome to Jinnjar City! A city famed as the central power of all of Diagad, and where the magic happens. It has a big history: the birthplace of the first Heroes Association that led to the creation of the Interstellar Justice Alliance, the protectors of the universe. Compared to other places, Diagad's what many people call a superheroes world, but that isn't true. A lot of us don't have the crazy powers that some of the popular folks have! And people like me? We don't care about saving the world! I'm just trying to make it through school, hang out with friends. Live my life!People tell thousands of stories about us though, and that I can be proud of. When other planets call for help, it's us that comes running to their aid. Our heroes put their lives on the line for anyone who needs a hand, and sure, I don't count myself one of them... but I want to share their story anyway.
Well, I don't need to be telling you about this city, do I? You're a part of it! Always have been, just like me. So I should talk about some funny stuff that's been going on lately instead…”
A TL;DR notes version of days/prompts: (click to show)
EVENT BASICS: Un-apped AU characters were taken 1 week before the event from their own worlds, their minds altered to believe they were always from Jinnjar, Diagad. They have a superpower because of this and a new life either living alone or with family (other NPCs or PCs). Go to the OOC post for more info.
DAYS ONE-TWO:
- Strange streams of colour in the sky have appeared, and looking at them for too long causes strange headaches. At this point you’re not sure what they’re about, but you can investigate them. However, trying to get right close to them is impossible. You will never get high enough. Regardless, let us know if characters will be investigating anything!
- Voidtreckers arrive, be on the lookout. People are excited about finding these infamous criminals, and may be bothering those wearing peculiar watches, or the colours of Blue, Red, Purple, or Orange. You might be one of them: the bothered, or botheree. Many games or movie criminals are some adaptation of these Voidtreckers. A lot of people are worried they’re behind the phoenonem in the sky.
- Nevertheless, people will still have their own lives to deal with, regardless of worrying events. Play around with what job your character has, if they’re in school, what work they do; if they’re drawn to a night life or just hanging around wherever they like. Characters not used to technology in-canon may find themselves having trouble with this world (despite believing they’ve always lived here).
- Some of the Voidtreckers who are most resistant to illusions and mind control will be breaking out by the end of the first day. They will have to lay low and plot in secret, figure out how to make contact with others. The SCA comms do not work.
- Other Voidtreckers might begin having dreams about their past by day 2-3.
DAYS THREE-FOUR:
- Those who have been brought to the world begin to dream of their real and past lives, if just in very small and confusing snippets. Some of those dreams may bleed into reality, and people may start to recognise absolute strangers, but don't quite always know why. This is stronger for Voidtreckers than 4th wallers.
- Random electronics seem to be glitching in odd ways, particularly the training centres, which lock people in together, even random strangers. Mostly it's harmless and more of a pain. People also swear they think they see the tops of buildings 'glitching' or colouring out. People have been speaking about pets going missing on walks, though the zoos and such are mostly fine, save for some of the higher up bird sanctuaries.
- More of the Voidtreckers and some of the more resilient guests will begin realising the reality of the place they find themselves in. That this is not their own world at all.
- The propaganda of the city starts to escalate, warnings about the dangerous voidtreckers and reminding people of how great the city is.

DAYS ONE & TWO: SLICES OF LIFE
![]() |
"This is an emergency broadcast to everyone in Jinnjar City. At 08:00 today, a breach into the city was attempted by the invading force known as the Voidtreckers, who have tried countless times before to take over Diagad for themselves. While it's believed the group was resisted, citizen are advised to watch out for anyone acting suspiciously in the city, and to watch out for this emblem. Please call the D-F-O-R-C-E hotline if you see anyone you suspect of being an intruder! Remember to keep low altitudes while we deal with the phenomenon above." |
[ RAINBOW SKIES. ] "Everyone's been speculating about what's been going on up above. About a week ago, these long streams of twisting colours suddenly spread through the purple skies of Diagad, rainbow colours inking the clouds. They've been growing out, like merging with the sky itself, and news broadcasts have been telling people not to worry. But what even are they? They say that looking at them for too long causes headaches, while some swear up and down they've seen things in them! I've heard a couple of friends talking about investigating them, but I dunno..."
▷ Twisting streams of colour are becoming exposed in the sky, and indeed, those who look too long high up will find themselves receiving headaches and dizziness. They’ll fade once you look away, but those who do decide to investigate by getting close will experience a tug, as if something yearns to take them somewhere. There will be patrolling Heroes - this world's equivalent of police - keeping an eye on things. Maybe your character is one of them, or posing as one. Maybe your character wants to learn more about what these are. Regardless, they won’t be able to get significantly close to the streams no matter how high they aim.
[ THE VOIDTRECKERS. ] "Gossip is HOT about these Voidtreckers. I remember seeing a movie about them once, based on something that happened years ago. They tried hacking their way into taking over a dyson sphere being built - like a giant structure around a star. There's other stories about them too, but are they really the ones behind this? Who are we even meant to be on the lookout for? I don't know... I'm kinda spooked. But do they seriously ride around in a flying train?"▷ You've heard about the Voidtreckers, whether you remember stories about them or not. Are you bothered about them? The news broadcasts say they got rid of them - then why are they asking people to look out? And what are you supposed to look out for? On top of the emblem, there's chatter going on about watching out for people wearing strange devices on their wrists, and wearing colours of Blue, Red, Purple, and Orange.
Will you defend your city from these mysterious foes? Be smart about it, or rash? Or maybe you're interested to know more for your own deeds… whether or not they’re the Voidtreckers of tale, they may have resources for furthering your own goals.
Will you defend your city from these mysterious foes? Be smart about it, or rash? Or maybe you're interested to know more for your own deeds… whether or not they’re the Voidtreckers of tale, they may have resources for furthering your own goals.
[ LIVING YOUR LIFE. ] “But nevermind all that! Life’s about having fun and hanging out with your friends too. I work part time, but I’ve got plans after my shift’s done! Doing some shopping, going to see a movie. I can’t stress out about the funny stuff going on. And I heard the new waiter in my favourite cafe is suuuper cute!”
▷ Despite the few anomalies going on, you still have a life part of Jinnjar City. You have a job filled with devices that you’ve been surrounded by all your life, or certainly longer than a week or, so you know how to work a coffee machine, right? You know how to drive an air taxi!
And where would you take one to? To anywhere: to the gym, one of the training centres, a spa, to the movies - normal things that everyone around the city have always been around. Meet up with some friends for fruit smoothies, or watch one of the shadow displays held by the Georgi’s Gang around every street, putting on shows to mesmerise and delight the kids.
Or how about buying your groceries to take back to your apartment or house? You know what all these fruits are! Right? Right?
… … maybe it’s produce from another planet.

DAYS THREE & FOUR: JUST ANOTHER NORMAL DAY
[ DREAMS. ] “Dreams are just dreams, but a lot of people have been talking about them. Like, really being disturbed by them? Not in a creepy ohhh a monster’s coming for me! way, but like, they say they see worlds they swear they’ve been to before. Or see people? I wouldn’t really think about it except, there’s this guy… not like a super cute guy, but someone I think I knew…”
▷ Talk about dreams have been popular lately, though not everyone has them - or, not right away. Sometimes people may be at work, in school, doing nothing in particular when a name (important to their real self) appears in their mind, a flash of scenery. Coming as quickly as it goes. They don’t know what it means, if it isn’t just a symptom of the latest weird gossip influencing them.
But it sticks with you, something you can’t completely dismiss. But surely it’s nothing - right?
But it sticks with you, something you can’t completely dismiss. But surely it’s nothing - right?
[ ANOMALIES. ] ”Just what we need! My friend’s dog’s gotten lost! She was taking him for a walk, and then she just says he went running ahead, and poof! Disappeared! Maybe he saw a cat? He’s always been a lazy chubby thing, but even dogs can’t help themselves, I guess…”
▷ The colours in the sky seem brighter today, closer...but it’s difficult to say for some, unless you’re actively studying them. Sometimes when you look above, you might catch - if just for a second - the tops of roofs glitching out, corners or streaks erased, colours meshing with the walls. You think it might be the light or your eyes, as it never lasts long, and even standing around waiting to see it happen again won’t give you what you want.
You may have other things to worry about than tricks of the light. Animals have simply been...disappearing, and always the ones owned, or particularly birds that fly around freely. People will ask you for help, and it’s weird they need to. Most owners have a tracker chip and app, and either apps show a blank map, or show them just standing in place...a place that when you get there, is nothing, no one.

[ TRAINING CENTRE. ] “Really though, other than the weird sky business and how jumpy the news has made everyone about the Voidtreckers, the only odd thing that’s been up is some weird stuff happening at the training gyms. Even I saw it! I was just doing my warm-ups for the day when the field I set it to, the sky...these shapes suddenly appeared, dark and looming. It seriously creeped me out. But it’s just a glitch, right?”
▷ Young or old, the training centres around the central district are a popular spot for everyone to give their powers a safe space to be unleashed. While there’s basic simulations that’s free for everyone to use, people can be personal trainers, or even run group sessions in the bigger rooms.
Sessions aren’t always linked, since getting private training is allowed. However, lately, people keep getting jumped into other’s sessions, and can’t get out until they finish the routine. Sometimes they’re simple, where you need to destroy building block-esque cubes, or superspeed through courses twenty times. But then there’s also story modes, such as…
Castle Defence: Help protect the castle of Erna from the tricky Voidtreckers! They’re trying to storm the castle, and the world needs your power to help keep them away. Difficulty is based on the amount of people present, and speed of the individual. Do you turn things green? Then turning a Voidtrecker green will make them pop! Good job!
Kama Aid: Floating spheres have been lured inside a giant 3-tiered labyrinth ball. You must help the spheres - come in optional people-shaped or even cute animals - be released back outside where the air is fresh. Use telekinesis to tilt the tiers like a ball tilting game, or use super-strength to destroy the different tiers!
Dia Mysteries: A theft, vandalism, maybe even a murder. The crime scene is locked down, and something is afoot. Use your telepathy to gain information from the suspects, sneak into a secure area under invisibility... the solution is yours to find in this investigative simulation.
[ A PSA or Six. ] ”Stay vigilant citizens of Diagad. Please report any suspicious behavior to the DFORCE force.”
"Heroes don't keep secrets! If you have suspicions about any dangerous people in our midst, let your local DFORCE force know. Speak the Truth. Save the World."

Announcements blare from speakers on public transport. Adverts pop up as they scroll through Diagnet. All remind citizens to be on their guard, report strange or disturbing behaviour and keep a look out for any of the symbols or colours of the Voidtreckers.
▷ Billboards are plastered with bold posters reminding citizens to keep an eye out for the Voidtreckers or anyone who they might have tried to sway to their side. For those beginning to glimpse that this city might not be what they once had thought, this could be dangerous especially if their families and friends believe the city truly is under threat.

No, Masumi can’t be up front. She has to keep her head down, avoid being caught out. But this might be a good chance to get info, so she carefully types up a response and waits.]
ClosingCases: The Voidtreckers must be pretty bold, trying to invade a city where everyone has powers. What do you think they want with our city specifically?
no subject
Here's our first batch of comments from the chat. Keep them coming, guys. ClosingCases writes-
[ RoloAdmin is typing... while reading out Masumi's reply out loud. ]
RoloAdmin: Thanks for the response, ClosingCases! That's definitely one way to put it. They're probably looking to mine Diagad of either our citizens or our resources. We're way too big to ignore if they're that infamous, though they're doing a poor job at being discreet. |
no subject
ClosingCases: I'd say. The whole city is on alert now. But possibly taking our citizens and/or resources for some purpose, that's quite the goal if true. I sure wouldn't want to be taken...
[Ironic, given how the Voidtreckers were 'recruited' in the first place...}

At least somebody else was interested in tonight's topic. So he does what's natural and Pins her message from his end of the chatbox, visible only to his keen eye. One more greeting should do it, before he returns to this mystery person's comment. ]
-and if heroes are on double the patrol, I don't see why legislation has to ignore other aspects of Jinnjar's infrastructure when they've got the means to do it. On that note, ClosingCases is here again with the following retort. [ He reads Masumi's comment out loud, while typing at the same time. ]
...'I sure wouldn't want to be taken.' Hm. Good point of view you've got there, ClosingCases. [ Roland presses Enter. That incites a sliver of interest, but that's natural, isn't it? To not want to be kidnapped, forced to do something against your will - ]
RoloAdmin: You & me both. But I'm falling short on any other motivation to come here apart from taking the best thing Diagad's got: the numbers. The billions of people who live here, most of which were born with powers. Any other thoughts on what these so-called universal villains might be interested in, @ _ ClosingCases _ ?
[ Something is nagging at him to pick their brain, whoever they were at the other end of the DiagNet conversation. It's enough to distract Roland long enough to shake his head back to focus. He resumes reading other comments out loud and conversing with them while waiting for ClosingCases to respond, keeping one eye on the pinned user up top. ]

And don't think in this city that people can't confirm that.
For this day, the coffee shop's become her lunch break stay, laptop out and fingers tapping away at keys and a spare chair beside taken up by one of her many machines. It's rocking some, trying to find a way to settle with its round shape. Bracken reaches out a hand to still it without even tearing her eyes away when the young man comes over with her order, and it's only with the sight of the drink to the side that seems to bring her back to the reality outside the proximity of her work.
"Oh? Hmm." That's the sound of her catching up with what's just been said to her, attention always distracted when she isn't just ordering from the counter; at those times, she's always a friendly chat and conversation. "Triple-upside? I didn't know you could do those with drinks." And she's no less a warm conversation now, smiling with eyes as she looks at Roland playfully. "What does that do to the flavour?"
no subject
Roland is on form, suiting each role he is given at any breadth of time. Today, he assumes the perfect barista, or as perfect as he can be. Hustling is not as glamorous as his peers might assume, but he appreciates mounting pressure; likes the feeling of accomplishing a good deed while serving another. Plus, tips aren't bad. Moving out wasn't easy, and he's still got a mountain to climb as soon as he gets his diploma.
The pink-haired woman meets a charming smile back as Roland's eye is drawn to her robot companion...though it concerns him not as much as what to do with the order. Obviously wrong, and yet they did have a policy for returning drinks for free if the error was on them. Then again, she's a regular at The Third Place, and Roland wasn't kidding when he said he remembered her - the woman who would come in with papers in one hand and a wrench in the other, hair a matted mess with grime and dirt. Always pleasant, always busy. Therefore - an employee of the world, ready to down caffeine like water.
This is where he anchors his pitch for the wrong drink, setting it down on the coaster by a pile of folders perched precariously on top of another toolbox. An engineer through and through, huh?
"Triple refers to the number of shots of espressos," Roland answers smoothly, hand in one pocket. "And upside-down basically means I reverse the order of assembly for your drink. So for this, the caramel is on the bottom, and the vanilla syrup is up top. Still interested in this bad boy, or am I tossing it for your usual Iced Cold Brew?"
See. He's got her covered.
no subject
And a woman doesn't mind good service that comes with good looks, though the latter keeps as far as there. She gets a comfortable time all the same, the drink and his explanation studied, and after a few seconds she pulls the drink and its coaster closer to her.
"Let's try something new - you should expand your horizons." As they say. "And I get the feeling a lot's going to be turning upside down soon."
At least, they were going to be shaken before stirred. She's heard the talk going around town, and though her interest isn't big on the Voidtreckers, she is curious about the change in the sky, and what it all means.
But, she can offer, even without prompt: "Are you doing fine outside of work? Some people are getting headaches because of the sky right now." And she motions up a hand, if only for a second. "Sunglasses help. And staying low to the ground."
no subject
Roland's pretty sure he's not supposed to wait a table this long, but there's a magnetism here that keeps him planted still. When she takes the drink, however wrong it is, he wonders what else he can do to stay where the orbit is strong; unquestioned, taken for the natural inclination that it offers him. Sure, she's a regular here, but...
Anyway. There can't be more to it than the feeling of wanting to provide good service and good conversation to a beloved customer. As she takes a sip out of the straw, conversation tapering into another, Roland takes out a dish rag from his apron and decides the table adjacent hers is far too dirty to ignore. Nevermind that his co-worker shoots him the evil eye for bussing a table when he was meant to be on cashier duty for the hour. (He always does this, boss! He won't let me do my job!)
But his wiping slows as the implication catches on, latching to him heavy and dragging. The smile on his face so cheery and youthful morphs ever so slowly into pensiveness, a dip in his brow that lends maturity where once there was none.
"...Upside down, huh?" Eventually, his dish rag stops its circular trip across faux wooden grain. He stands up a bit more sure, pretending to tighten the ribbon across the back of his hip. "That's a rather ominous way to put it. Penny for your thoughts?"
He really shouldn't be asking customers things like this but there's no filter all of a sudden, like his mind is refusing all barriers to stop talking and go back to work. Roland is inclined to chase the intuition for one reason or another.

route a ALSO TIDUS IS HOPPING IN ON THIS ONE
And sure, Inigo won't deny that it seems.. kind of fun? Tidus's impulsive ideas tend to not always work out, but this is definitely one Inigo is tentatively excited for. Fencing looks kind of cool in a graceful sort of way, which means he's all for it.
But there's the one problem: neither of them know how to fence. At least they'd know where there was fencing equipment, thanks to the flyer and all, but are they just expected to figure this out all by themselves?
But as luck would have it, it seems like they're not the only people showing up for fencing. There's already someone practicing right over there, so Inigo calls out: "Hey! Are you the instructor?"
Sorry, Roland. You apparently just seem Responsible.
ribbit
Roland may or may not hear Inigo after he's called out, turning to the guy he's with. Tidus has a habit of waltzing on into wherever he pleases, along with his habit of trying anything and everything. And fencing! Why not? You just poke an oversize needle pretending to be a sword at the other guy and win, somehow.
... his knowledge of fencing is very basic. Regardless, they're here, and Tidus has dragged a pal along for the fun of it. Quieter this time when he gives Inigo a nudge and asks, "You just think he looks good?"
Heh, he knows what this is, pal!!
no subject
It's rare for Roland to offer fencing lessons this close to the end of the semester, but between staying up for his immersion and running around Jinnjar for errands, this might just be his only place of focused relaxation. It's a chore and a treat all in one, so when the duo come find him, he's already warmed up, sweat drenching every pore, some dripping off longer strands of hair.
Then again, their timing couldn't be more wonderful, circumstances considered. At least half the team is already starting to vacate, and those left behind haven't taken apart the set-up. Some are still competing, voices echoing in foreign tones. But it's the sharp beeping sound that comes in intervals when two other participants from his team move in lightning fast steps, action too quick to even see if untrained. Small, rectangular boxes that blink in red light seem to be connected to a score board above competitive spaces. Roland though, is already finished with his set, no longer wearing the metallic plastron, jacket, or protective sleeves. The saber in his hand wanes with the motion of the other free one, resting comfortable against his hip.
Ah, right. Instructor. Lessons. Too young, huh? That's relative, isn't it... He hides his annoyance at that pretty well, answering casually. He is young but for some reason, he's never quite happy hearing it out loud, even as a compliment from others.
"Well. Technically I'm just part of the team, but if you're here for lessons, then yeah. That's me, I'm your guy." He'll show professionalism for now, offering the dark haired one a hand to shake before moving to his blonde companion. "Are you two from uni? Or somewhere else...?" How far do Roland's ads travel? He's sure to find out now.
no subject
Not the remark about Roland being too young - though, well, he's got a point - but what follows after. Inigo looks like he's choking on nothing but air and his own spit, his face growing red as he hisses "It's not like that--"
Before they're already standing right in front of him, and there's a hand being held out to him, and oh gosh this is suddenly so awkward now. Inigo hurries to grab the hand and give it a shake, trying to will his cheeks to stop heating up, but it's already far too late to not feel embarrassed at how this is going down.
"W-We.. uh, we saw a flyer!"
That's totally not an answer to Roland's question, Inigo.

Roland was one such ally, a man he respected far too much to not go to in the first place. It was probably late on the third day and here he was bussing a table.
"Nice watch you have there." Senku complimented instead of some other response. He offered a bit of a smirk, his most devious, and while he wasn't dressed in Voidtrecker clothes, he was wearing an amulet.
A very familiar amulet perhaps, if one might remember the last stop. It didn't really match the other necklace around his neck, but it was the most important. He'd have come sooner, but he hadn't known where Roland was offhand.
Found you.
no subject
It's got to be.
He stops wiping down the adjacent table -a spray bottle in one hand and a rag in the other - when he's spoken to. A lopsided smile on his face bellows him boyish almost, but his eyes radiate with focus. Why is he looking at me like that?
"Thanks," he answers before straightening up some. "It, uh. It's from my mom. She gave it to me before I moved out."
It's the story he tells everyone. He shakes his head some and procures a notepad and a pen from his apron's front pocket. For some reason, he has a penchant to linger to attend to him, forgoing the other tables needing to be cleaned. "Dining in today or just hanging out with a cuppa?" Roland adds in service. Only then does his eyes catch the glint of a gem around his neck, tickling him with a sense of dangerously compelling familiarity.
Wait...
no subject
"A nice gift, then." He said easily, rolling with it for the moment.
"I think I'll dine in." Senku responded because he wanted - no, needed - time to work on Roland.
He knew several things. He couldn't just go up and announce himself an abscond people. Logically, they'd try to turn him in. The danger they were in was probably incredibly real. So he needed to poke at them, get them to realize things and go from there.
It was downright tedious for someone like Senku, but he could do it when he needed to. For Roland, he needed to. It helped that he knew Roland well enough to have things he could call back to. "I'm thinking I could go for an American-style cheeseburger, is that on the menu?"

B
Instead of waiting for Roland to force his way into her house, she’s got her backpack thrown over her leather-jacket clad shoulder, grabbing him immediately by the arm. No. No. She doesn’t want her sisters to know she’s seeing a tutor for math. They’ll make fun of her.
“C’mon, Mr. Crane. Let’s go study somewhere else tonight!” Does he get a choice in the matter? Only if Roland fights back against the whirlwind that is Tani. She’s already tugging him away from the front door furiously.
“Let’s go to that late-night diner you keep talking about! The ones that serve those weird cold-icy treats.”
The blaring sounds on the TV do not go noticed in her mind, but she’s got more pressing matters to attend to than discussing the dreaded ‘Voidtreckers’.
no subject
Whirlwind, indeed. Tani is a force to be reckoned with, though he's not quite sure where he recalls how much of a spitfire she is. Was it when he first took her to the park for a quick lesson on the different types of foliage from Diagad's long history? Or was it when she completely derailed his lesson plan with a natural affinity towards wild herbs and flowers herself?
Nevertheless, he can understand Tani's hesitation to have her lessons at home. Roland recalls some of her siblings lightly teasing her for getting extra help for math, though he isn't sure who in particular passed by that day. (Or how they even look...Hm. He must be more tired than he thought.)
Roland allows Tani to pull him towards the stairwell of their apartment complex, but only until there. He resists before she can take a single descending step, shaking his head with a calm smile on his youthful facade. As much as he'd love to be her partner-in-crime here, she is still a minor.
"Can we get permission from your dad first?" He says, hip cocked in amusement. "I'd love to go over variables with you over a fruit shake and fries, but I don't quite have the clearance to take you outside the house. Even if we're just answering schoolwork."

It's become easier and easier for her to socialize with the college student after their weekly tutoring sessions became less about topics she hates and more about enjoying all school has to offer. Roland even went so far as to bail her out of a situation where she was fighting back against the schoolyard bullies. She has nothing but respect towards him. Though, as of late, it feels like she's forgetting important aspects of their friendship.
"As long as we're back by midnight, things will be fine."
Really, Roland, can you deny the face of this child? Will you crush her dreams of getting out of the apartment for a few hours? She bounces on the heels of her leather boots, watching, waiting...
nice matching pose there, missy

She does smile at the sight of him, because she recognize the barista. "Hey," she greets. "I was confused too, because I didn't actually order that."

His mood too, lifts somewhat upon recognition of the brunette. She was a student just like he was, right? Well, he'll have time for small talk later. For now, Roland waves to his fellow barista to cover the cashier while he signals for Kate to walk to the side, meeting his gaze halfway across the expansive coffee machine and bean grinders lined up neatly against the counter.
"Okay. Let's straighten your order out. Can you repeat that for me one more time? No hiccups this time, promise." Roland asks, immediately pulling out a new cup to write on. Her name is written in impressive cursive.

So they're from Lower Cabin 1, Sleeper B. Red Team. But who?
Not that the 'who' matters more than what they both know, what they're both planning. The faster they speak, the better. So Roland goes without a fraction of hesitation, donning attire that for the most part, looks as if he's about to go for a job interview. Crisp white shirt buttoned up well; cuffs rolled up to his elbows. It's only when one looks close that they notice a purple flower brooch attached nicely to his collar.
Roland Crane, 2:C. Purple Team.
He's not going to forget who he is any time soon. If he can help it, never again.
"Five minutes early. Let's see who'll show up..." He says to himself, leaning against the cold marble of the fountain's edge, arms crossed one over the other. It wouldn't hurt to send a message over private network, but the less papertrail they had on that thing, the better. Instead, he plays with his phone on one hand, spinning it expertly with deft fingers.

He had also needed only fifteen minutes of the thirty he had claimed to get to the park and mind the area around the fountain before approaching directly on time.
A young woman with green hair begins walking toward Roland Crane. Or toward the fountain itself, if one prefers to look at it another way. A good memory of the roster will assure Roland this person is... should not be a member of the train's current passengers.
Nothing about her attire stands out. No reds, blues, purples or orange present. If it wasn't the appointed moment 'Olivia Curtis' claimed she would arrive, it might even be brushed off as coincidence that a woman is approaching.
The question is what will Roland do about this conundrum?

Either a power they gained while being on the planet, or they had this skill when the train took them. Only one way to find out.
He makes a show of nonchalance.
When the women with green hair almost makes it to Roland with only a few short paces between them, Roland pretends to sigh and shrug, carefully pivoting his right foot to walk in the same direction as Olivia Curtis. He rearranges his sling bag over his shoulder and keeps walking until he reaches a corner, where he turns sharply, leading a little further away from the park.
If Olivia Curtis really was a Voidtrecker in sheep's clothing, then it's only natural she would follow him. Of this, Roland is certain. So he waits, leaning across the wall, watching if he'll spot green-hair and roaming eyes pop out from where he just crossed.
