Let it Snow: Purple Start

"We are now approaching world#58291. Purple team to doors." As the last flurry of activity occurs the voice speaks again. "Warning: Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." the usual jerk, shudder lurch as the colours from the window turn from the void to a white haze of snow.

The doors open for purple team to alight. It is a scramble down from the train, there is no platform here and the ground below them is a sheet of ice.

They seem to be in a town, ice below them, snow drifts piled high. They can see the mountains in the distance and high above the down there is what seems to be a giant ice block floating in the sky.

But for their more immediate attention there are snow creatures. Snowmen, oddly formed snow animals. Eight foot tall creatures made of ice. Some seem intent on throwing snowballs at cars and the buildings of the town but it is not long before the team are spotted and the creatures make their way to them.

This is their battleground. They may find things they can use as weapons in the town itself and their job is to ensure there is still a town when all of this is over. It’s going to be a hard and very cold few days.

He hadn't been sure what the other man looked so defensive for since they hadn't met formally until now. Ignis himself wasn't going to take up any of Tony's issues because the man could handle his own affairs. He wasn't oath bound to Stark since aged six, but would completely be on Tony's side if things went down hill. So with a determined nod, the advisor walked side by side following the directions, but unsure as to what to say or to talk about.

When Bucky started speaking about Tony, it was then that he realized that the man must know he was as well. It was hard to keep their relationship private on a train full of people, but secretly the advisor was pleased. "Indeed he has." It would make for awkward and impolite conversation so Ignis didn't care to elaborate further. He'd heard nothing flattering and wasn't trying to go over past history.

He would just focus on getting the supplies.

Bucky nods, continuing on in silence for a moment longer, still ever-vigilant, and making a point to check behind them frequently, too. It takes him a little while, to decide what to say, what wouldn't make things worse. "It's really personal for him, but I don't hate him, and I have no intention of causing trouble," which wasn't to say he wasn't going to do so inadvertently.

He's probably digging himself a shallow grave right here, as a matter of fact. "He seems like a good guy, but if you tell him I said that I'll deny it to the grave."

Green eyes remained on the terrain as best they could and the man kept quiet until Bucky spoke again. Of course it was personal for Tony and Ignis sympathized with the older man. "We've enough trouble on the train and fighting amongst ourselves will solve nothing so we have to work together." He's referring to that book overlord thing being trouble of course but in general as well. None of them were there because they wanted to be, no one woke up one day and decided to go on a train into outer space.

There was the thinnest fraction of a smile about the good guy comment as they arrived at the market and the advisor stopped to take a look around, his thoughts in a whirl much like the wind hitting the snow drifts.

Tony was amazing. Yes, he was brash, arrogant and egotistical and there was absolutely no refuting those facts. The older man could be also be ill tempered, rash, impulsive and hard headed. But beneath that suit of armor and those flaws, Ignis had found an insecure sensitive squish of a man who craved attention and validation. He went above and beyond constantly for people who didn't know that he did it so many times and wouldn't think to ask for repayment. He actually worried and cared what others thought of him despite whatever else that powerful jaw said otherwise. His intentions were always the best for others, though how that information was presented left a lot to be desired at times. And most of all, how big and generous Tony's heart was had won Ignis over just so many damn times.

Looking at Bucky now, there was the slightest flash of a smile in the green eyes. "Funny, I don't recall you ever mentioning anything about him."

In other words, Bucky's secret was safe.

"Yeah... sorry about that. That one was on me," he admits, a little sheepishly, but smiles warmly at the confirmation that Bucky's praise for Tony would remain between them. Tony's head was big enough without it, anyway.

"Sometimes, I'm as stupid as Steve. We take turns holding onto all the stupid," he doesn't expect Ignis to understand that at all, and casts one more glance around, to be sure there's nothing sneaking up on them before he opens the door, holding it for him. "Shouldn't be anything too dangerous inside. The snow things aren't that smart." They just lunged and bit, they hadn't worked out how to open doors.

Ignis just found out what happened the moment Bucky told him because for some reason, he'd thought Tony had started the fight between them. But again he isn't going to start a fight here or anything, especially about something trivial and nonsensical. They were on the same side here even if their 'sides' might differ.

His head cocks to the side at hearing about Steve. That was the man that Tony had compared him to, so it always made the advisor what kind of man that the Captain was. All he knew was that they were both noble, kind and had high ideals. That was as much as he'd gotten from Stark. "I've heard he's a good man." And that was true.

The unexpected gesture of the door being held open for him takes Ignis back slightly as he certainly hadn't expected that sort of kind gesture, but he appreciates it of course.

"Thank you kindly."

That was the second time he thanked this man. Well if the train had taught him anything, it was that everything was strange. There were definitely supplies here and Ignis planned on stocking up. But he moved cautiously in case something was here. His weapons could be summoned in an instant and he would fight if he had to.

Looking around he wondered where the rest of Bucky's team was, surely they couldn't have just abandoned him. After all, what if something happened to this man? The advisor was sure that the team had it coordinated and it was none of his concern how it was run, but he would have to get on Tony about radios and constant forms of communication on missions because this distinct lack of it drove him mad.

Really, that fight had been a collaboration.

"Steve's the best man I've ever known," he agrees, following Ignis in and making sure the door was latched closed behind them, to make sure no snow beasts could sneak in. "But he's a stubborn idiot if you catch him on the wrong day," he chuckles softly, keeping close and watching for trouble, even though he doesn't expect any here.

He keeps his bat slung over his shoulder, but his grip on it isn't casual as he looks down every aisle they pass, occasionally going still to listen for any unusual noises. "Tony's been remarkably reasonable. Reminds me a lot of his father, just a little angrier." Which he figured Tony had every right to be.
faithfulsupport: (How is it..)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-01-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I seem to recall similar words from Tony regarding the man." There really wasnt much else that he wanted to add to it. Steve had to be such a person to have Tony fall for him.

Ignis smiled lightly at the topic of stubborn. Well that fit Stark too so that worked for and against him at times.

Words of Tony's filtered through his mind as he steadily kept a lookout for trouble and useful supplies. He'd said he wasn't a very good guy at a point in his life so maybe this was one of those times.

The part about him being reasonable now helped the advisor relax some and he was interested in hearing about the father. But deep down he knew there had been issues between them. And idly he wondered why Bucky was talking about this in front of a stranger. Well maybe the man needed someone to listen to him.

Part of it was nerves -- Bucky's still not really comfortable with people, and Ignis is a little intimidating for several reasons. The other part was that he wanted Ignis to know that Bucky wasn't going to be trouble, at least not on purpose. Trouble had a nasty way of hunting him down anyway, but he was trying.

"I'm not surprised, Steve has that effect on people," he smiles a little, finally starting to properly relax. If one of the snow beasts was here, it likely would've made itself known by now. He turns back to Ignis, following behind him.
faithfulsupport: (Focusing)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-01-24 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
He sure wasn't trying to be intimidating because he didn't care to be and he had no issues with Bucky so far. Besides, as he'd said they had to work together and survival was of utmost importance.

Far be it from him to judge a book by its cover but he couldn't help but think that it sounded as if the man with him either had a case of hero worship or was in love with Steve. Or maybe it was both. But again it was absolutely none of his business and he wouldn't ask.

"It would certainly seem that way."

The advisor picked up a few things and gathered them up. Somehow they had some of the flowers needed to make healing potions so those definitely got snatched up, preserved as they were in the ice.

He would have no issue with Bucky personally as long as Tony, his team and his friends stayed safe. The 'Iron Man' could handle himself and if he couldn't, Ignis would faithfully be there to back him up.
luckybucky: (So confused and innocent)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-01-24 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky follows Ignis through the store, pausing here and there to look a box over, then tuck it back where it belonged. He didn't need anything at the moment, but he was nothing if not curious.

When Ignis takes the flowers, Bucky lifts a brow. "Flowers?" he asks. "Are they medicinal or something?" They didn't look like anything he was familiar with, and if he's being honest the silence was a little unnerving.
faithfulsupport: (I suppose)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-01-24 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Green eyes turned to regard Bucky curiously. "Have you never made a healing potion or healed anyone?"

It was something that he was curious about. And to be honest and fair, Ignis felt very awkward himself. This was the man that his lover lost Steve over. But his go to mode was silence and not idle chatter.

He shakes his head. "I've only ever been used as a weapon," he replies, shrugging one shoulder. "I don't know anything about making medicine or doing first aid," it's actually a bit of a problem, and something he'd fix if he ever got up the nerve to discover the training modules on the train's computers.

faithfulsupport: (Are you quite sure?)

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-01-25 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Changing that could be an option." He wouldn't tell Bucky what to do but the man didn't sound too happy with his lot. And if Ignis had learned anything, the train was definitely a place to be or do something different.

Grabbing what he needed, the advisor turned around and nodded to Bucky. "It seems I've found all that I will find useful here."
luckybucky: (A little happy)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-01-25 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what I'm trying to do," he agrees, "but as long as it's to help people instead of hurt them, I'll fight if I'm asked."

Bucky nods, and turns to lead the way back to the door they'd come in through. He holds his bat at the ready. He can see snow beasts, but they're a few yards away. "You can wait here, if you want. This should be quick," and then he steps outside, to start smashing them to bits.

"I see." Ignis didn't want to get into a discussion about that, so he didn't. But it was noted to check in about later on the train when there wasn't so much cold and ice.

He can't help chortling with laughter at the chivalry being displayed as Bucky headed out the door. But he followed right behind and decided it might be fun to see this in action. The cold took his breath away but there were things that needed to be taken care of.

Summoning his daggers, he held them crossed in front of him and waited. When one came after him, the advisor let one of his daggers fly into the head and it disappeared. Turning to look briefly to see if his companion was alright, the dagger vanished and and lance was in its place. Crouching down a bit, he leaped into the air and came right down onto the next one's head, falling easily enough into a newly formed snowbank.
luckybucky: (Terrified)

Bucky was using the bat, mostly, swinging low and putting his hips into it when a particularly large snow-beast thought he was a good target. The thing's head went flying over a rooftop. Hopefully no one was over there to get hit by it, but it was only a glorified snowball now, at least.

He notices Ignis fighting from the corner of his eye, but can't spare his full attention, as a snow-feline grabbed his bat and he resorted to beating its face to powder with his metal fist. He landed the last blow just in time to jump aside as Ignis landed. He hadn't needed to, but the attack was both impressive and intimidating.

"You didn't need me at all, did you?" he asks with a chuckle, swinging his bat to get the snow clumps off. "You still want me to walk back to the tunnels with you?" Since he needed so much protecting and all.

[personal profile] faithfulsupport 2020-01-26 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Flicking his wrist to dismiss the lance, Ignis brushed his hands together to get the snow off of his gloves. "I simply wasn't going to let you have all the fun." Looking over the other man, the advisor had no idea how long Bucky had been out here by himself so there was one more thing that he could do.

Pulling a healing potion out, he broke it and then touched the other man's non metal arm so that any scratches, scrapes, bruises, bleeding or broken anything would be healed right up throughout his body. Ignis smiled at the question because he got to learn a little about the man that Steve had chosen over Tony. "Assistance is always appreciated in any form." After all, he had learned the value of teamwork with the lads back home.

Not wanting to put the man out or trouble him further, the advisor shook his head. "I should be fine. But it was a pleasure to meet you and to be able to fight alongside you."
luckybucky: (That was super cute)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-01-26 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help cracking a grin at that. It reminded him entirely too much of the Howling Commandos, even if they hadn't been aided by magic.

He can't help being a little alarmed when Ignis breaks the bottle, seemingly on purpose, but then the healing washes through him and he finds himself blinking owlishly, reaching up to touch his arm where Ignis had. "Oh... we definitely don't have that where I'm from," he replies, but he feels a whole lot better. He can't even be annoyed that it was wasted on him.

"Thanks," he says with a smile that actually gets all the way to his eyes, and offers a salute. "Be safe," and then he turns and runs -- heading in what was hopefully the direction of the rest of his teammates.
