Let it Snow: Orange Start

The moment Red team jumps the voice speaks again. “Orange team to doors. Void shift imminent. Ten, nine, eight, seven...” There is a lurch and the train seems to tumble. The windows flash with the void for a second before they are once again surrounded by snow.

The train steadies, the doors open, the train is in mid-air and one step away from the train doors there is an ice platform. Crossing is not too hard, though a bit daunting. They are very high up and the ice is inherently slippy.

The platform is not large enough for them all and so the only natural way is for them to begin entering the labyrinth to allow everyone off the train. The moment the last person leaves the train it blinks away and the moment everyone has entered the labyrinth there is a grinding sound and the ice behind them closes.

For good or ill they have entered. Their goal is clear, a strange machine suspended in the centre of the maze but getting there will be a challenge. Though it looks like they should be able to merely walk towards it walls of ice stand in their way. The only way to stop any of this is to get through the labyrinth.

"Dunno." Kaito eyes the paths around curiously.

"But this has seriously Evil Lair vibes, and if there is not at LEAST a laser grid to disable I will be very disapointed."

"A laser grid? What is that?"

Will was about thirty years behind on technology.

"You've never seen one in the movies? Wait... do you have movies where you come from?"

Will *looks* like he's from earth. BUT ONE NEVER KNOWS.

"There are movies, but I haven't watched many." It was a long trip to the nearest theater, and for a family as large as the Stantons paying for that many tickets was a rather large expense. On those few occasions when they had gone, it had never been to the type of movies that featured laser grids.

"Right, so... ever see a heist film? Particularly one set in like. A bank or something. Essentially, the trope is that you have a maze made of lasers set all around the goal of the heist. The lasers themselves can be two types! The first are basically beams of light, not dangerous at all. BUT. You trip one, and you set off the alarms. The second is they're ACTUALLY lasers, and will fry you if you touch them. Bonus points if they fry you AND set off the alarms."

"I can't say I ever watched something like that. It sounds rather complicated."

"If we get some good movies here I'll find one for you." Kaito promises. "But that's the fun of a heist! The complication. It's the challenge, see? Any robber can walk into a bank and hold it up. That takes no skill at all. But if you can hack the computer, or wriggle past the lasers, or whatever obstacles the authorities set, that takes skill. Otherwise, it'd be over in like. fifteen minutes, and that's no fun at all. Unless you're doing a chase movie instead, in which case most of the movie is not the robbery but the chase."

It makes the job fun too, not that he's going to say that.
