Day 7: Screw your courage to the sticking place: Start

For those who have been on the train a little while they will be expecting this, the beginning of a new month, after certain passengers have strange dreams. Early in the morning of day seven of the month of Egret their SCA's glow the colour of the void and a holographic message appears. Their next mission. Another world to save.

Preperation

Those that go to the dressing room will find flight suits and helmets, one per passenger. Those who are not human shaped will find ones adapted for them, some of them quite odd. The flight suits are tight fitting and light, but once they put them on they will feel quite warm. Each is the colour of the Voidtreckers team and have a black train symbol on the chest, the helmets have clear fronts and coloured backs.

They have an hour or so to prepare for their mission. Time to make sure everyone understands what a space ship is, at least. Hopefully.

Arrival

"We are now approaching System #7212108." Finally it is time. "Warning: Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A jolt, a flash of light and suddenly the colours are gone, out of the windows they will see they are in a large hanger.

And outside of the train there are five scaled humanoids with guns pointing directly at the train. Those that try the doors find they do not open.

"What void transport is this?" One of the creatures demands. "We didn't request void help, explain yourselves."

Another speaks. From where they are stood near the engine. "Voidtrecker Express."

Even though the voidtreckers are unfamiliar with these people the surprise is clear in the creatures eyes.

"Stand down." They snap at the others, who lower their weapons and step back.

The commander looks worried. "Give them anything they need." They turn to hurry out of the hanger.

The doors open, allowing the Voidtreckers off the train.

One of the remaining guards steps forwards.

"I am Hitrinto, I apologise, we were not expecting you." They look worried as well. "We have everything under control but if you are here..."

At that moment there is a clatter of noise over the radio.

"There are reports coming in of a second wormhole in the system." A second voice spoke almost immediately. "Shield Station Two has been hit. I repeat Shield Station two is taking heavy fire." A third soon after. "More enemies ships sighted, reports of a second wormhole confirmed."

Hitrinto looked at the Voidtreckers grimly. "Come with me."

If the Voidtreckers indeed follow them they will find an array of ships. Hitrinto quickly explains the basics, two person ships are easier to pilot. The controls can be shared or can be set so one person drives whilst the other concentrates on fighting. They have solo ships but they are difficult to pilot and they will only give them to those who have ship fighting experience.

Another guard hands out blasters and will give quick lessons to anyone who is unsure on how they work. For all that they were surprised they guards seem to accept the presence of the Voidtreckers and work quickly to get them armed and ready for battle. Choose ships, have a quick practice of weapons and get ready to go!

Onward!

Blue team are already where they need to be, they can begin to explore the station, get the lay of the land and figure out a plan of helping guard this place.

Everyone else is off, purple and red are off to the second wormhole, orange to the shield station that needs help! Board your ships and set off to help!

(OOC: Team posts detailing the next part of each mission will go up on the 15th March)

If the shield could throw shade at him it was only right and fair that he should do the same in kind. "I wouldn't be so hasty as to burn such a fetching garment. One never knows if we may need them again or not, but rest assured you could put it at the pile of your clothes." He shook his head. "You'll still be able to summon your shield in battle. If that isn't your best defense.." The advisor just smiled.

"Speaking of, it seems after missions we gain points. You could ask for your regular clothes and toss your blue hoodie."

Fetching? Gladio looked down at himself and bit back a groan. This was revealing and not fetching. He wouldn't have minded if he knew it would actually protect him, but it just looked like the fabric had been painted on him.

"So long as I can bring my weapons with me, then I'll make this work." Though when informed he could get his old clothes back, Gladio started to grin. "You're serious? Yeah, I think I'll be doing that." He wanted his old clothes back. Prompto had done a good job with what he had but having his own clothes would be so much better.

Just as Gladio loved to tease Ignis, the advisor could and did return the favour. But he really had missed the banter if he were honest with himself and he always was. Whether or not he shared that honesty with anyone else was always a different story of course.

"Of course you can bring your weapons." And then there was that familiar grin. "Shouldn't be that hard, and we do have someone aboard who can spin as a back up plan." Ignis didn't want to say it was a spider, but he could totally ask Charlotte. After all, she'd done a wonderful job of a suit for Tony.

"Spin?" Gladio gave Ignis a curious look, not sure what that smile was about but somehow suspicious of it. He shrugged it off though, too busy thinking about what he needed to do to get his own clothes back!

Win. That was it. He needed to get this thing done and come out the other side with a win. That seemed simple enough. What the other teams did, Gladio didn't know and honestly didn't really care about at that moment. He was focused on his team and what he needed to do. It was all he could focus on.

He looked down at his hand and a grin spread across his lips. "Yeah, I think this will go well. We'll send these bastards packing."

"Quite." Ignis replied evasively. Noct wasn't a fan of spiders in any form or fashion and Gladio wasn't fond of facing them in battle of course. But they always got the job done and trounced whatever form of arachnid got in their way in the end.

There was a solemn nod from Ignis. "The sooner the better." Casualties and injuries could be severely cut down the sooner they got this mission done. Of course the shield knew that too, and if anyone could be relied on to keep people safe, it was most certainly Gladio.

"We'll kick their asses and go home." Well, home was the train at this point but that wasn't important right now.

Gladio burst out laughing. It was always so entertaining hearing Ignis swear. His favourite, by far, was his sudden outbursts of 'bloody hell!'... It was sometimes all Gladio could do to stop himself from rolling around laughing. In the middle of battle it was worse.

"You got that right. Asses kicked and back home." Though that last word still left something of a bad taste in Gladio's mouth. The train was NOT home to him. It was a temporary place where he parked his butt at night but it wasn't home. Though, he supposed, anywhere where Ignis and Prompto were was home enough. They were his family after all. Which was why he smiled and he didn't argue the point.

"How long till this whole thing kicks off?" He asked instead.

The advisor fussed, knowing that the shield was entertained by him. It certainly hadn't meant to be entertaining but somehow it was. And trying to hit the bigger man was going to be nothing more than a fly swat.

He figured that there was discomfort at calling the train home and there was in his own mind too, knowing there was someone else that they were missing to be able to call it home but it was the three of them here for right now so that's what they had to deal with. So instead of brooding he smiled with a nod. "Right you are."

Hearing landing above them, Ignis shook his head. "It won't be long now I'm afraid." And he knew they were battle hardened and ready to do what needed to be done in order to keep everyone safe.

In Gladio's mind there were several someones missing. But even with them there, the train was never going to be home. Eos was his home. Insomnia was his home. This... was just a hopefully temporary arrangement that would be done with sooner rather than later. Because while he missed Noctis and Iris and the others, he didn't wish them there. He didn't want them to be pulled from their lives and to struggle as he did. As he was. It wasn't fair. In fact, to want them there was very selfish of him, he believed. They were home where they belonged and no matter how much he missed them, how much he wished they were by his side so that he could watch over and protect them, he didn't want them there. It would break his heart. It was bad enough that Ignis had already been there for months and Prompto was there. Neither of them deserved this... Both, to Gladio's mind, should have remained home.

Gladio gave himself a little mental shake when Ignis spoke next. Not long... Damn. He looked around for Prompto, not seeing the familiar blonde hair he felt a little thrill of worry. He hoped he would be alright. He'd definitely try and catch him once they were off the train. "Better get my shit in order then." Gladio didn't like it, but he would do what needed to be done to get it over with faster.

"You'll be fine." Ignis said with a slight smile. The shield was as solid and as sturdy as they came. The advisor himself had their food rations and medicines stocked away for when they were needed. Gladio might be the shield but Ignis was the one who would keep the man on his feet long after others would have given up. Both men knew their jobs, both knew their positions.

Briefly he thought of Noct and Tony. Madoka followed those two in short order and the advisor pushed his glasses up over the bridge of his nose.
