Day 7: Screw your courage to the sticking place: Start

For those who have been on the train a little while they will be expecting this, the beginning of a new month, after certain passengers have strange dreams. Early in the morning of day seven of the month of Egret their SCA's glow the colour of the void and a holographic message appears. Their next mission. Another world to save.

Preperation

Those that go to the dressing room will find flight suits and helmets, one per passenger. Those who are not human shaped will find ones adapted for them, some of them quite odd. The flight suits are tight fitting and light, but once they put them on they will feel quite warm. Each is the colour of the Voidtreckers team and have a black train symbol on the chest, the helmets have clear fronts and coloured backs.

They have an hour or so to prepare for their mission. Time to make sure everyone understands what a space ship is, at least. Hopefully.

Arrival

"We are now approaching System #7212108." Finally it is time. "Warning: Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A jolt, a flash of light and suddenly the colours are gone, out of the windows they will see they are in a large hanger.

And outside of the train there are five scaled humanoids with guns pointing directly at the train. Those that try the doors find they do not open.

"What void transport is this?" One of the creatures demands. "We didn't request void help, explain yourselves."

Another speaks. From where they are stood near the engine. "Voidtrecker Express."

Even though the voidtreckers are unfamiliar with these people the surprise is clear in the creatures eyes.

"Stand down." They snap at the others, who lower their weapons and step back.

The commander looks worried. "Give them anything they need." They turn to hurry out of the hanger.

The doors open, allowing the Voidtreckers off the train.

One of the remaining guards steps forwards.

"I am Hitrinto, I apologise, we were not expecting you." They look worried as well. "We have everything under control but if you are here..."

At that moment there is a clatter of noise over the radio.

"There are reports coming in of a second wormhole in the system." A second voice spoke almost immediately. "Shield Station Two has been hit. I repeat Shield Station two is taking heavy fire." A third soon after. "More enemies ships sighted, reports of a second wormhole confirmed."

Hitrinto looked at the Voidtreckers grimly. "Come with me."

If the Voidtreckers indeed follow them they will find an array of ships. Hitrinto quickly explains the basics, two person ships are easier to pilot. The controls can be shared or can be set so one person drives whilst the other concentrates on fighting. They have solo ships but they are difficult to pilot and they will only give them to those who have ship fighting experience.

Another guard hands out blasters and will give quick lessons to anyone who is unsure on how they work. For all that they were surprised they guards seem to accept the presence of the Voidtreckers and work quickly to get them armed and ready for battle. Choose ships, have a quick practice of weapons and get ready to go!

Onward!

Blue team are already where they need to be, they can begin to explore the station, get the lay of the land and figure out a plan of helping guard this place.

Everyone else is off, purple and red are off to the second wormhole, orange to the shield station that needs help! Board your ships and set off to help!

(OOC: Team posts detailing the next part of each mission will go up on the 15th March)

"Oh, I'm.. I'm not afraid!"

But at the same time he still looks positively giddy. He may be close to bouncing on his feet, and for a moment it looks like he's about to hug Curufin, although he manages to hold himself back enough at the last moment to instead just give him a pat on the back. Look, he's trying really hard to not look like he's dying from happiness at the simplest compliment here, okay. Even though he totally is dying. He doesn't know what to do with himself in the face of hearing that!

"After all, it takes an awesome person to know one! And you have to be pretty amazing by default to make it through these missions the way we do. Those space soldiers don't know what'll hit them!"

"Good! A person should always be bold in the face of their own amazingness!" He grins.

Inigo seems very excited about this topic! Curufin wouldn't be surprised if Inigo did hug him. He accepts the pat on the back with pleasure.

"Well, thank you, Inigo! You always do know how to return a compliment, and I'm pleased to accept one from you. I hope I'm awesome enough to survive this and future missions." He's smiling. "I do mean to astonish those Empire soldiers, and I think you will too, if you intend to fight them."

He almost smiles a little guilty at the part about him knowing how to return a compliment. Because he knows he can be a little too over the top with it, but.. it's not like it can hurt, right? Everyone should always be reassured of their good sides. And it helps in this case that Curufin has plenty.

"I do intend to," he nods though at the last part. "I may not be used to the kind of weaponry they're using here, but fighting armies is nothing too unfamiliar for me. I'm sure I will be able to adapt-- it's for the sake of protecting everyone, after all."

Nope, being over-the-top with a compliment cannot hurt! Curufin appreciates it. He thinks Inigo has plenty to be proud of too, in the way of a good side.

"It's pretty much the same for me," he says. "I've fought in so many battles and wars that it's hard to keep track of them all. I haven't used this futuristic kind of weaponry before, but I have used the plain old modern ones -- guns with ammo propelled by explosive force. I think I can adapt to these peculiar laser weapons. And for the same reason as you will, to protect those who need protecting."

"Plain old modern ones, huh.."

Yeah, even that sounds like it's beyond Inigo's time. It's not as if they didn't have long-ranged weapons, but those were usually more like bows. Or magic. Nothing like those guns everyone keeps talking about.

"That makes me wonder about the world you come from. Are you used to all those.. well, I suppose others might call them modern devices? Have you ever been in space before?" Since all of this is new to Inigo. And he can't be sure if it's new to Curufin or not, since he's pretty sure the other would be excited about going to space no matter whether he'd been there before or not.

"Yes. They fire rounds that are small cases of metal filled with explosive powders and a lead bullet. When you pull the trigger, it causes a small steel hammer to strike the back of the round, and that causes the powders to ignite and burn, propelling the bullet out of the barrel of the gun at great speed. There are more mechanized versions of that sort of weapon, but I mainly used the older, simpler versions."

Not only beyond Inigo's time, but beyond Curufin's as well. It's just that he left his own world after his death and dwelt in two other worlds, and in both of them there were people from more modern civilizations than his. He learned much from them.

"I've never been in space before, though I've spoken to people who have, and I've always wanted to go. And you, Inigo? Are you eager to go?"

At least his explanation makes enough sense to Inigo. Even though he comes from a world that's far off from using any kind of gun and even though he's certainly not anywhere close to being a mechanic himself, he can kind of imagine what Curufin is talking about..

Although he's totally distracted by that last question. Mostly since it means it's time to put on his positive face. Not that it's too forced this time, since he isn't feeling bummed about it or anything, but they're still facing battle. It's not ideal.

"Well, it's good to see places you haven't been yet at least once in your life, right? So I suppose in that sense I'm fairly interested in seeing what it's like out there. It's not an experience just about anyone gets."

[personal profile] so_dark_a_road 2020-03-31 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Curufn would be pleased to know that his explanations are not totally incoherent!

Yes, time to put on a happy face! positive face. Curufin is doing the same.

"I agree, it is wonderful to see places we haven't seen yet. True, not everybody gets to go out in space! Let alone has the chance to do battle in space. I just hope we have time to do some sightseeing before we have to fight."
flatteries: (but now is better than never)

[personal profile] flatteries 2020-03-31 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Inigo laughs.

"I think they might give you some strange looks if you're trying to see some sights before fighting." Not because Inigo thinks it's weird, mind you! He's totally on the same wavelength as Curufin when it comes to this. The stars are so pretty, he'd love to take a good look at them. But.. "I know we haven't seen too much of these guys yet, but they all really seem like military guys, don't you think? I feel like they might end up being all strict and no fun with us."
so_dark_a_road: (among the contending princes)

[personal profile] so_dark_a_road 2020-04-02 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Curufn grins.

"I suppose they might regard me with suspicion if I looked like a kid at a theme park, instead of a warrior on the way to a battle." But he's laughing. "Oh well, but we'll probably both have a grand view of the stars on our separate journeys to take up our team tasks. If we don't get to do any sightseeing after we arrive, then Hitrinto's people won't have the chance to be strict and military with us. We'll. . . impress them with our staunch military manners!" He makes his face sour and impassive and straightens his shoulders and gives a precise salute, his hand like the edge of a knife.

But then he can't keep up the act, and he breaks into another grin.
flatteries: (you wish you'd never said)

[personal profile] flatteries 2020-04-02 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay," he manages to say between snorts of laughter, "you could truly convince me of a lot of things about you, but not that."

Curufin is fun. He's brave, and amazing, and maybe a little too eager about running headfirst into battle.. but there's no way he could act all stiff. Inigo's brain can't even begin to imagine that, honestly.

"If I hear about those guys kicking someone in orange out, I will know who it was without having to hear a name."
so_dark_a_road: (flickers of light)

Wanna wrap this one?

[personal profile] so_dark_a_road 2020-04-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
"I certainly hope not! Life is too short to waste it being strict and military." He grins at Inigo.

They think alike in many ways, even if Curufin is a little overeager about running after danger. And of course, Curufin thinks Inigo is fun, brave, and amazing, too, as he's already said.

And his shoulders shake with laugher when Inigo makes his joke. "There's no question that would be me," he agrees.

"We ought to be off to our assignments," he addes, reluctantly. "Hey, fight well, and come back with stories!"
flatteries: (we're too afraid to sing)

Inigo nods.

"Yeah, you're right." His enthusiasm dampens just the tiniest bit. Inigo may be used to battle, and he's glad to be able to do some useful work near the frontlines like this, but it's still not as if he genuinely enjoys it. He still smiles though - it's hard to fully wipe that off his face.

"I bet there'll be at least one interesting enough story for you! See you later."
