middleofsomewhere | Day 7: Screw your courage to the sticking place: Start

For those who have been on the train a little while they will be expecting this, the beginning of a new month, after certain passengers have strange dreams. Early in the morning of day seven of the month of Egret their SCA's glow the colour of the void and a holographic message appears. Their next mission. Another world to save.

Preperation

Those that go to the dressing room will find flight suits and helmets, one per passenger. Those who are not human shaped will find ones adapted for them, some of them quite odd. The flight suits are tight fitting and light, but once they put them on they will feel quite warm. Each is the colour of the Voidtreckers team and have a black train symbol on the chest, the helmets have clear fronts and coloured backs.

They have an hour or so to prepare for their mission. Time to make sure everyone understands what a space ship is, at least. Hopefully.

Arrival

"We are now approaching System #7212108." Finally it is time. "Warning: Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one." A jolt, a flash of light and suddenly the colours are gone, out of the windows they will see they are in a large hanger.

And outside of the train there are five scaled humanoids with guns pointing directly at the train. Those that try the doors find they do not open.

"What void transport is this?" One of the creatures demands. "We didn't request void help, explain yourselves."

Another speaks. From where they are stood near the engine. "Voidtrecker Express."

Even though the voidtreckers are unfamiliar with these people the surprise is clear in the creatures eyes.

"Stand down." They snap at the others, who lower their weapons and step back.

The commander looks worried. "Give them anything they need." They turn to hurry out of the hanger.

The doors open, allowing the Voidtreckers off the train.

One of the remaining guards steps forwards.

"I am Hitrinto, I apologise, we were not expecting you." They look worried as well. "We have everything under control but if you are here..."

At that moment there is a clatter of noise over the radio.

"There are reports coming in of a second wormhole in the system." A second voice spoke almost immediately. "Shield Station Two has been hit. I repeat Shield Station two is taking heavy fire." A third soon after. "More enemies ships sighted, reports of a second wormhole confirmed."

Hitrinto looked at the Voidtreckers grimly. "Come with me."

If the Voidtreckers indeed follow them they will find an array of ships. Hitrinto quickly explains the basics, two person ships are easier to pilot. The controls can be shared or can be set so one person drives whilst the other concentrates on fighting. They have solo ships but they are difficult to pilot and they will only give them to those who have ship fighting experience.

Another guard hands out blasters and will give quick lessons to anyone who is unsure on how they work. For all that they were surprised they guards seem to accept the presence of the Voidtreckers and work quickly to get them armed and ready for battle. Choose ships, have a quick practice of weapons and get ready to go!

Onward!

Blue team are already where they need to be, they can begin to explore the station, get the lay of the land and figure out a plan of helping guard this place.

Everyone else is off, purple and red are off to the second wormhole, orange to the shield station that needs help! Board your ships and set off to help!

She grinned when he tried it, she could tell he liked it. That was good. So was his idea of trying other things with this icing.

"We can be dipping different things in it and we can be seeing which do be being the best."

It was science. She's been learning about science off Tony and Peter.

They were only encouraging each other but somehow Ignis found this reassuring. He loved to spoil her any chance he got and now..well here they were.

"Agreed..so let's find things."

The strategist got up and started looking in the refrigerator. "So what shall we start with?"

She clambered up and followed him over. "Fruit! Fruit do be being sweet and icing do be being sweet so they will be going well together I do be thinking."

She went to find some, grabbing one of each. "For this to be being a proper experiment we do be needing to be writing it down."

She had her notebook. They could do this.

The idea was interesting. "Fruit..alright, what do we have?" And as soon as he asked that, it seemed Buttercup was off and running, grabbing this and that. If this was an adult he would certainly give his opinion. But this was her, and Ignis didn't mind her bringing all manners of..things to the table.

"Writing it down is a splendid idea." the advisor replied, grabbing his own notebook.

And as green eyes looked over what was gathered, his pen was at the ready. "Now where shall we start?"

"Banana." She told him picking one up and frowning as she worked on freeing it from it's skin. Banana's were weird fruits but she thought they would be nice with icing. She broke the banana in half and handed half of it to Ignis.

Then she wrote banana in her notebook before dipping the fruit in the icing.

This was fun for Ignis, watching Buttercup get all excited about tearing into the fruit to see what tasted good. It was also serious research of course, since with watching her, he could possibly come up with a new recipeh.

One never could be sure where and when those might appear. And with a child's imagination and free spirit included in this mix, well only good things were bound to come out of it.

He took half after writing a few notes and dipped it. It wasn't bad at all. So after swallowing the bite, the advisor nodded.

"That one is certainly a keeper."

She grinned and nodded, it was indeed a keeper. She grabbed the next fruit, a pear. This one needed cut so she found a knife and cut a chunk for herself and for Ignis.

"This one do be having lots of juice. So it will be feeling different with the icing."

She dipped it in with a grin.

As he watched Buttercup with the pear, he wanted to admonish her to be careful and those words almost came out but she successfully managed to cut the fruit up.

Maybe the advisor should gather people around for this at some later point. But if he did, Ignis was going to make sure Buttercup was present. After all, this was being done with her enthusiasm and invaluable assistance.

He tried the icing and it wasn't too bad. The banana was better in his opinion but others might enjoy the pear. Different people, different tastes, and different palates after all. So he nodded. "Let's try the strawberries next."

She doesn't seem to notice his worry, after all why would he be worried. She knows how to use a knife very well after all.

"Strawberries will be being good, I do be predicting that." She picked one up. Strawberries barely needed any help to taste great and so she was proven right when it turned out they were even better than the banana was. She grinned.

"You do be having to be tasting one."

He couldn't help but let out a laugh at her prediction. "I've heard strawberries go well with sugar." Of course he'd read that in the recipe books he'd ordered and some of them sounded absolutely scrumptious. Ignis couldn't wait to try them damn it.

Reaching over, the advisor picked up the red fruit and dipped the tiny tip into the icing. And as Buttercup predicted, the strawberry was absolutely heavenly with this concoction of sugar on it.

"This is wonderful." he proclaimed when he'd swallowed the bite. "I'm wondering if we should keep this a secret."

"A secret?" Her eyes glinted. She liked secrets. "So only we do be knowing how tasty strawberries and icing do be being?"

It is a small secret, a harmless one. But it will allow them to have delicious food that the others don't. She likes it.

Ignis nodded. "That is correct." Buttercup's face was absolutely adorable when it was looking like it was and in that way she reminded him of Tony. No wonder he took such a liking to the girl. "And the rest of the things we need to be trying."

This was a lot of fun and he was really happy to be sharing this with her. It was almost as if he was sort of paying her back for the company the night everything had scattered and lay broken when the train had done its lurch thing. She had been there with him not frightened at all.

"Yes, it can be being a secret experiment."

She nodded, she liked the idea of that.

"That's a splendid idea." the advisor agreed. And as his green eyes looked around at the table of fruits he nodded.

"Are we trying any others or are we settled on the strawberries then?"

It was a tough question, discover more or just eat all the strawberries, which had been proven to be delicious.

She grinned and picked up another strawberries. "I do no be thinking we will be finding better than this."
