Purple Team Onward!
Initial Clash
Once everyone is in fighters they set off towards the oncoming army of ships. There is about an hour for Purple team to get used to their ships and used to the fact they were in space, flying towards a battle.
The battle, when it starts is fast and quick moving. The enemy tactics involve sending in their smaller ships to weave and fire and break up any battle formations, whilst their larger ships stay more stationary and fire at ships once they are cut off from the others.
The Empire of Stars have the advantage in that they are a trained army, rather than a rag tag band of inter-world fighters some who have never been in space before.
But the Void Treckers don't need to defeat this army, just distract them long enough for red team to sneak past and for the army of System #7212108 to arrive and take over.
Recuperating
Once they are relieved they will be led to the main battle station in the system. There they will be given barracks, medical assistance if needed and a quick briefing on the state of the battle. This new army changes things but they will be split between the different battalions to pad out the forces. Anyone who has a specific skill can make themselves known and will be assigned suitable tasks.
When they aren't out fighting they can rest at the station, they aren't subject to martial discipline but will be expected to respect the rules and stay within the barracks and mess hall assigned to them.
Fighting
Throughout the next few days there are a series of clashes, when they aren't fighting they patrol and wait, striking at the enemy when ordered to and defending when needed. It is a mixture of very boring guard duty and very fast paced, terrifying space battles.

She just happens to end up there when Jessie is outside for a smoke. Seeing the medical room beyond empty, she instead glances over at her.
".. Are you in charge here?"
what do you call purple with two reds? team red violet? idk
Renee stood before the fighters, brows furrowed slightly. They weren't entirely
unfamiliar--the world they'd rescued the lindusi from had had fighters kind of like this, and she'd gone out with Feanor a couple of times to blow up space debris. Well, more than a couple times...
This time, there might be a bit of a learning curve for getting the craft under her control, but she figured she could do it. Maybe she'd even learn to fly an airplane, if she ever got back home...
As if she could even afford one. Renee snorted, but one corner of her mouth twitched as she moved over to one of the vehicles and looked it over. She climbed up into the cockpit, leaning in to look it over...
Fighting (for Prisoner and Spinel)
At least when it's space fighting, Renee's...sort of in her element. It's not like normal fighting for her, not really. And there's a part of her that misses the good old mutant throwdowns that she had on Earth.
But it was kind of nice to have backup. "You comfortable up there? I'm not jostling you around too much, right?" Renee had asked Spinel if she could shrink so that the Gem and Prisoner and Renee herself could all squeeze into a two-man fighter. That, and it was supposed to be a way for both of the others to learn to fly, too!
"I'm glad that you could shrink like that, it'd be a tight fit if we were all full-sized!" She was trying to make it into a joke, but she couldn't help but feel like that was a bit lame...
Getting Organized
Jak eyed Renee. "I'll go with you if you want. I have ship driving experience from back home."
Re: Getting Organized
This way if she went up with anyone else? She could show them how it was done. More air time really couldn't hurt.
"Don't think we've met. I'm Renee Corbin. I mean, I've seen you around the train and stuff, but there are a lot more people now than there used to be!"
getting organized
So when Alice notices Renee climbing into one of them, she slowly walks over to the vehicle, giving it a curious glance before looking at Renee.
"Are you familiar with these things?"
no subject
"I'm not going anywhere yet, you can feel free to climb up in the cockpit and have a look. You'll be in the weapons seat, though, so just point at the buttons...setting something off would probably be bad right now..."
Still, she'd be happy to give the other girl a crash course. "I've seen you around, but I don't think we've met. I'm Renee Corbin." She'll reach over to offer up a hand if the girl climbs on up!
no subject
But then Renee says the words 'weapon seat', and Alice is climbing into the ship in an instant. Sometimes it's about the simple things in life..
".. Alice Liddell." It's happening in a pretty awkward way, but she does reach back to give Renee a slight handshake. Leaving her hanging would only make things more awkward, right.
"I'm still new," she explains as she takes the seat. "And I haven't spoken to many people yet."
no subject
"I've done flights and weapons before in a different ship, but not this one. If you wanna go out for a spin, we can, but I'd wait to try firing 'til we're actually in space. I'm all for breaking stuff, but at the right time, you know?"
She's trying to make a joke, but Renee's not the best at that sort of thing...
no subject
"Well, I'm fairly sure the people here aren't going to appreciate it if we shoot up the station." As if that's literally the only thing stopping Alice from trying it out.. (It kind of is.) "But they can hardly expect us to go in blind, unless they are utter morons. Let's go up there for now and see what it's like."
What's the worst that could happen? (Don't answer that.)

She leaned over to point out some of the knobs and buttons. "Not sure if you've played some of the VR games on the train, but there's a bit of crossover, at least. I've done some piloting and played the games--" she and Prisoner were usually in there when she didn't have class or homework, after all. "You don't need to worry about flying. This drops cluster bombs, but those are finite. That one fires lasers. That one aims both. And that's enough from me. You ready?"
Renee could tell that Alice didn't have a whole lot to say. Talk was cheap anyway--it was time to kick some ass!
no subject
But at least the explanation is slightly understandable. Press buttons to destroy things, right? That much she can do, so she just nods.
"It sounds understandable enough. Let's go try it out."
no subject
"Sure thing." She picked up the helmet and put it over her head, adjusting the mouth and earpieces as she did so.
"Control, this is Fandango One, going out on a limb again. Gonna show someone how it's done, so I'll do my best not to get in a serious dogfight, over!" But she laughed then at whatever was said to her.
"'Kay, we've got clearance, so I'm firing this baby up! Make sure your helmet's on tight," Renee said, as she punched in the inputs to start the fighter up, and lurched backwards as the jets ignited and it began to move. "And hold on!"
no subject
.. although not really in a bad way. This is much more interesting than anything on the train, that's for sure. (That, and it takes a while for Alice to be able to fit all that hair under her helmet anyway, so she can use the few extra moments.)
"Do you always talk so much?"
Despite the fact that she's quipping over here, it doesn't sound like she means it in any mean way. Alice can sound far harsher than this if she wants to. If anything, the airy breath after it seems.. faintly amused? It's always so hard to tell with Alice's resting bitchface.
"But I'm holding on." She's survived so much, how bad could one of these things taking off be, honestly?
Probably call it ‘Fandango’ (it’s a real color btw)
Now inside the ship, Spinel has her place at the back of Renee’s headrest with her legs twined into the supports for an anchoring. She is aware of how Renee is moving being attached this way, but not at all bothered, “Sure am! I’ll move if I need ta.” Then at the shift towards humor, Spinel pick up the thread with a note of amusement, “Only if you’re not creative about it. But this’ll keep everything clear and there won’t be an accidental button press.”
Her flexibility allows her to not only watch Renee teach tucked in the limited space, but she can interact with Prisoner. A stretch through her neck and careful pathing allows her to peer upside down over his shoulder in the other chair. “Ready to go on this side?” Spinel is nervous, but she’s smiling. At least to begin, she won’t be trying to manage any controls.
fandango is actually really pretty i love it and the name
After Renee climbed up with Spinel into their seat, Prisoner hopped into the second pilot's seat in the two man ship, looking over the controls. It was quite a bit more complex than the video game controller, with a good deal more buttons, but he at least could recognize what the actual movement controls were. His hands were already resting on them, just feeling what they were like in his hands, when Spinel's head popped up.
He gave an excited head nod with a thumbs up to Spinel - it was probably easy to imagine just how excited he was with his movements. He was jittery with excess energy and was ready to get going, almost literally vibrating in his seat.
same, I thought it was neat.
Sorry, Prisoner. You've gotta wait!
"Okay, help me with these." Renee worked through the pre-flight sequences for the fighter, letting Spinel get some button pressing in as well. "All right, brace for ignition!" She knew how to fly, but she and Prisoner at least were still somewhat squishy...
The thrusters roared, and Renee gripped the controls, maneuvering the ship through the doors and into space. It's fairly clear she's had some experience--she heads straight for some space debris to give Prisoner the opportunity to blast it to smithereens!
"If you wanna take over at all, Spinel, let me know? Otherwise I'll let you have the controls halfway through and you can take us home. I suspect they'll have us out here for three hours or so before we need refueling. Sadly, pretty sure we've gotta head back to the ship for that, unless we get told differently."
Clash!
The thing is, Ple Two doesn't need things like 'time to figure out space combat'. She was born in space, trained in space, meant for space. Ultimately, she felt more at home than she ever did when they went planetside.
Even the unfamiliar controls were hardly an obstacle.
So if they needed to put up a diversion? How about a purpose-made space combat pilot with psychic senses absolutely showboating hard enough to nearly get herself killed about once every couple minutes, evading with knife's edge margins and smirking confidently? That should get plenty of attention.
Don't worry, she'll get... some sleep before heading back to cover the blue team part of the assignment. Probably.
