Memory Cave

After the passengers see a glimpse of a life that is not their own they appear in a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.

They are not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker. Maybe someone they know well, maybe someone they have only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave together.

The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.

But for that time to come, they first must talk...

Maru... was panicking. Breathing hard he was at one of the walls and kicking out at it. It didn't make a dent. In a flash glowing claws appeared at his hands and he slashed at the walls with increasing desperation.

He didn't know what that dream had meant and he didn't care. He didn't care that there was a cat asking about fish. All he knew was that he needed to be out of that room and back with Madoka before something awful happened.

"Let... me... out..." He ground out between slashed of his claws which did nothing to the walls at all. The only think Maru was doing was exhausting himself.

Spark gave him the most unimpressed look and curled up for a nap. "When you figure that out, feel free to wake me."

For several long minutes, Maru tried everything he could... but it was hopeless. No door appeared. He couldn't make a hole. He was trapped.

Exhausted... drained... Maru stepped back from the wall... And in a puff of smoke he vanished, to be replaced by a small, black cat. A small, black cat that curled into a ball and lay there.

He didn't speak to the other. Why would he? If that cat didn't give a crap about him, Maru didn't care about him either... nor why that other cat was the only other thing in the sealed cave with him. He refused to think about it. Madoka was the only thing he could think about right then...

At the scent of smoke, he opened an eye, and blinked a few times. So... another cat that could turn into a person like him, or another person that could turn into a cat like Adrien? He wasn't sure. But it meant he had to be that much more careful with his secret identity. And he had thought Nita was his biggest concern.

"Done now?" he asked with a yawn and a stretch.

Maru opened a single eye to look toward the one who had spoken, and immediately closed again.

He didn't dignify that with a response.

"Well, guess we're both gonna catch a nap after all." He shrugged and curled up again.

He wouldn't be sleeping. Maru felt sick inside. How long had they been there? How long would they be there? More than a day and Madoka...

A small shudder ran through him and Maru curled up a little more. It had only been a few days ago that he'd told her about this. Warned her. And immediately it had happened.

It hadn't get occurred to Maru that he needed to address the fact that he'd been seeing things he shouldn't have, and maybe then he would be able to go back...

Spark huffed. "We're not supposed to be this over dramatic for real," he muttered then got over and went to the other cat. He dropped down and laid against him to offer comfort.

Hey, worked when Adrien did it in his kitty form, should work for Spark too, right?

No, wasn't going to help, sadly. Maru didn't move. How could he feel comfort when he was afraid that his Eve would soon die? And with her, himself... Because Madoka's Dad would kill him. He knew, probably, several people would want a piece of him if he was responsible for her death...

"... I need to go back." He said quietly, eyes closed and facing away from the other cat.

"Didn't exactly choose to be here either," he said with what he could manage of a shrug from his position. "But Storms fade. We'll get out of here at some point, even if we are half starved by then...." That last was said mournfully.

Utterly wrong thing to say. Starving would take a very long time for Maru.

"... If I don't leave... someone will die." Now he turned his head. Now he looked at the other. "... I can't let her die. I need to get out of here.!

He blinked a few times. "Sheesh. That is over dramatic," he said. And for a moment he wished he had been trapped in here as Gar. Gar was better equipped for things like this. It was kind of the point of him.

Spark's ears drooped as he looked around...

"....." Maru... looked away again. No, he wasn't being dramatic. He was afraid. But he realised he would find no sympathy or understanding from the other, so he would remain quiet. What was the point?

"Alright then, think those rocks look tasty?"

No no they did not.

Was Spark going to try to chew their way out anyway? Yes, yes he was.

This cat was an idiot. Maru had no decided this. To ask if rocks were tasty was a sure sign that the thing was an idiot. No two ways about it.

"... No. They don't."

"Then you're going to owe me a lot of fish for this one. You and whoever we're saving." He stretched and headed for one of the walls, looking for a spur or anything. This... was going to hurt. He better get a lot of sympathy fish for this...

Maru heaved a sigh and moved his head to look at what the other was doing.

"... If my claws couldn't make a mark. What makes you think you have a chance? We're stuck in here." He just didn't know why. Or when the door would open. Because something told him it would... he just didn't know when...

"You're right, giving up is clearly going to be faster. If you got a better idea, I'm furry sure I catn't wait to hear it.

Maru shook his head and dropped his head onto his paws.

"... Then do what you want." Because no, he had no better ideas. If this cat wanted to try and eat rocks, why stop him?

"What I want is to go fishing. This cave doesn't seem to care what we want."

It didn't, did it?

So... he sighed.

"... This happened because of that stupid vision." And he blamed the island. There was something on that island, like the last mission, giving them nightmares.

"How do you figure that?" Since he wasn't going to have to eat rocks, he laid back down.

"Because I had it... and now I'm here." Maru reasoned. It made sense, right? But why it made sense, he just didn't know.

He snorted. "I had one too. Know what else I had before I poofed here? Lunch. A nap. A swim. A breath." Why couldn't he be back in Nautilus where no one expected the chaos to make sense and just accepted it AS chaos? And also could Bend him up some lunch while they waited. Plus side, that weird talking thing had only lasted a few days, right? Rather than a week?

He was going to starve to death, wasn't he?

Maru opened his eyes and glared.

"... And which of those things don't usually happen?" Unless, of course, this cat had visions on the regular. "I've never had a nap and woken up in a cave. But I had a vision and I did. But whatever..." His head dropped and his eyes closed. "Not gonna argue... it's annoying."
