Memory Cave

After the passengers see a glimpse of a life that is not their own they appear in a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.

They are not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker. Maybe someone they know well, maybe someone they have only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave together.

The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.

But for that time to come, they first must talk...

"No, I was not." He turned, recognising the voice and, when he saw her, the person. Zelda, her name was, if he remembered correctly. "I was..." Gerome frowned, having to think for a second. "... At a lagoon of some sort. I sat down to relax. Had another of those strange visions and then..." He waved a hand in a gesture to encompass the cave they found themselves in. "Here."

"I take it you were not near a cave?" He asked then, turning his focus back to Zelda.

"No," she shakes her head.

"I was on one of the eastern beaches. I suppose I might have drifted off, but this does not feel like a dream."

She turns to examine Gerome more closely.

"And, of course, that wouldn't explain your presence."

"Indeed not..." He had never dreamed about this woman before, so he had no idea why she would be there now. And there was a definite feel of direction to this... dream state. Gerome was in control of what he was doing. If he wanted to move his hand, he could do that. He was able to think about what he said before saying it. His thoughts were his own. Dreams were generally out of his control.

"Then the question is; why are we here? What brought us here? And what do they want from us?" Because Gerome was starting to get a little angry. While he had control over himself, he was clearly not in control of the situation.

"There's at least one clue,"

Zelda says, posture perfectly still,

"You had a vision just before arriving? As did I. If there's a purpose to be found in this affair, I would guess that it had something to do with that."

"They are connected? I am unsure... This vision the person's name was Sheik. The person with them was someone by the name of Link. There was a lake... barren and then filling with water." Gerome frowned, looking a little unhappy with that. His nightmares had included water lately, for some reason. And now a vision that included it after a fashion? At least the vision had seemed... pleasant. And not one that tried to kill him.

Somehow, her spine finds the capacity to stiffen even more at that news.

"Lake Hylia," she offers. "It's called Lake Hylia. The young man was in blue, with a long cap, and he was accompanied by a fairy."

"A ball of light? That could have been a fairy..." He hadn't really known that, though. It had just looked like an orb of light.

Gerome gave her a keen look. "... You know this memory then?"

"A guardian fairy," Zelda nods. "The Great Fairies look more human in appearance... to a certain extent."

In the sense that they were larger and possessed both discernible features and a humanoid shape, anyway. No one who had seen one would ever believe it actually mortal.

She hesitates, but confirms it. "I know it. Would you be able to name a blue-haired young man attempting to apologize for an argument if I showed him to you?"

Maybe not the best question; as she asks it, the nagging familiarity of the youth in question feels increasingly insistent.

...Ah, that's it. He's on the train, isn't he?

Gerome's back straightened, not at the confirmation, but at the description. To be able to point them out, that blue haired individual would need to be close at hand. And Inigo was the only one that Gerome knew...

Though he had not had an argument with him in quite some time.

"Inigo." He said, not needing her to point. "... Though the argument? Can you tell me what it was?"

She tilts her head to the side.

"I can do better than that," she says after a moment. "With your permission?"

She holds out a hand to him, palm covered with a fingerless glove but fingers surprisingly calloused if he chooses to take it.

Gerome hesitated... but only for a moment. He reached out and took her hand. His own scarred and calloused, battle-worn hands that were used to wielding heavy weaponry and leather reins. Though he had to admit to a little surprised by the woman's grip. She seemed delicate, but there was steel under it all. Gerome could appreciate that.

"Granted."

Zelda looks him in the eye and nods.

Then she opens her mind, and calls the memory to the forefront.

"Here you are, Gerome," Inigo's voice rings out, slightly distorted from having passed from one mind to another already. But all the same, the scene is clear and recognizable.

"That was what I saw," she says at the end. "Nothing more or less."

Gerome had the strangest feeling... He was being sent the memory from this woman's mind, but at the same time it triggered the memory in his own. Both seemed to play side-by-side, echoing within his own head, the strangest of sensations, until he pulled his hand back and lifted it to his temple.

"... That was..." Personal? Could he really say that, could he get angry even though he suspected that he'd had someone elses memory implanted into his own mind.

"... That was... before we left for the Past. I refused to go. Inigo and I argued, and yet..." Gerome shook his head, still confused as to why the other man would do it. "He found me and claimed to have changed his mind. That he wouldn't leave me alone. How could I accept that knowing how much he felt he needed to go and save our world?" The words just tumbled out of Gerome's mouth without any thought behind them. Once he realised what he had said, however, his cheeks flamed. What had gotten into him?

She listens carefully; yes, that makes sense of what she saw.

"You couldn't," she agrees.

"It seems like you have quite the remarkable friend. Though it might be equally fair to say that so does he."
