Memory Cave
After the passengers see a glimpse of a life that is not their own they appear in a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.
They are not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker. Maybe someone they know well, maybe someone they have only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave together.
The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.
But for that time to come, they first must talk...

Conan sighs. He wasn't good at comforting, and he knew it. He'd developed his skills to uncover the truth behind a death when everyone was telling lies. Not to reassure someone who knew that he'd been murdered.
"Those people....Did you know them?"
no subject
Katsuya's voice is distant, and so is his gaze- but it is distant in the way that those who have seen things can be. He is stable, and grounded, but mourning in a way that cannot be described. "...Th' kid was my best friend. He's th' one who got me outta there after, an' got me 'nough stuff t' run off and start life somewhere else. He'd wanted t' help. ...'nstead he watched 's grandma, an' all th' other oldest in th' village rip out my soul," he hisses, the sound cut short as he swallows.
"...Or part 'f it, anyway. ...D...Dragon..." Katsuya's voice cracks- his eyes water, and he holds them back. "...He replaced it...w'th himself...he didn'...he couldn' exist again, all there was, was like...some kind 'f pet, 'r animal, livin' in my shadow...'cause he replaced part 'f me, an' he couldn' take tha' back... ...'cause t' him I guess...watchin' me die was worse than 'f he pract'cally did th' same," he whispers, wiping at his face.
no subject
He suspected that revealing that fact would not be helpful right now.
But all of that is immediately put to the side, as he takes in the latest reveal.
"....You have a dragon in your soul," he says blandly. The sheer illogic in that would catch up to him in a moment. "Is he still there?"
no subject
"...Huh. ...I...guess it might be..?" He rubs his head. "...I...I don' know, I guess. ...Hones'ly 's like I said. Most 'f th' stuff fr'm back there...'s all kinda fuzzy, or at leas' it was. I could r'member bits, but it'd be all vague. Rewatchin' tha.... ..." Katsuya shakes his head, and shoves it aside. "I'm gonna be real, I don' know what t' do w'th tha'. I mean....duels bein' 'real' w's one thing, same as seein' shit b'fore it happened but..."
It's all just a bit much. "Jus'...a lot, y'know? I mean shit, yer takin' it better than I am!" Which in hindsight isn't a very good sign, he should probably ask about that.
no subject
Conan shrugs. "That was your life, once. I'm just an impartial observer here."
no subject
With an added huff, he scratches at his ear- one brow raised quite high. "Give y' tha' f'r th' shit on my end, sure. But what abou' th' stuff on yer end? I wouldn' say y' took it great, but y' took it pretty clearly, tha's f'r sure."
no subject
He moves to shrug a little."It was painful at the time, and the situation was dangerous. I don't recommend trying to navigate a cave with that much blood loss, and I'd rather not do it again. But that's all long in the past now. The kids got me out of there in time to reach a hospital, and the police were waiting at the exit to arrest those people." He frowns a little, but it quickly settles into stubborn resignation. "With my life, I don't have time to linger over a situation that ended well enough."
no subject
Hrrrrrnnnn....
"Err...w'th 'your life'? I know from what y' were sayin' las' time 's apparen'ly dangerous but uh...speakin' as someone w' some scars 'f their own, should I be gettin' worried abou' how many you've got?"
no subject
Not that he actually knew how any of that kind of things worked. His one encounter with magical healing so far and temporarily and accidentally deactivated the apotoxin in his blood.
Another shrug. "That wasn't the only time someone has shot at me. Its just the only time I was badly injured by it." Most of the other times the bullets had just missed, or they'd just been superficial injuries. Nothing a few stitches couldn't fix.
no subject
Whatever, fine, he'll have to just. Fumble it. Yeah.
"Righ'. So yer jus' shot at plen'y." He frowns. "Y' know tha's fucked up righ'? Like, speakin' as someone who got t' deal w'th evil gods an' crap, tha's fucked up."

no subject
"Man, ev'n if tha's normal, it's screwy- 'specially if yer supposed t' be hidin'. How hard did th' disguise fall?"
no subject
He doesn't realize that this actually makes it worse.

no subject
Somehow he thinks this makes it better.
"And it's better for it to be me than a real child."
no subject
"Like y' keep makin' these excuses an'...Fuck! I never try an' say bein' stabbed by a card-game's good! It sucks! It fuckin' sucks, an' it shouldn' be happenin', ev'n if it is! So why th' hell do you keep making excuses f'r why you're gettin' attacked! It ain' better f'r ANYONE t' get hit, by anythin'!"
no subject
"I don't enjoy being shot at or stabbed or tasered," he says at last. "But knowing how to deal with that is part of my job."
At least he hadn't mentioned his experiences being buried in an avalanche, dropped out a blimp window or thrown off a building.
no subject
"Put aside th' part where you're a d'tective. You look like a kid. But it's still happenin'. Which means either y' ain' tha' great at it, or you an' th' other real kids, are gettin' int' this shit way more than y' oughta." He pauses, looks up in thought, and adds- "Or yer cursed. Don' say 's fake either, y' never know what's fake or not w'th this crap."
no subject
"I just happen to run into a lot of dangerous cases."
He side eyes Jounouchi. "And for the record, my record of solved cases is 100%."
no subject
If anything, Conan is probably haunted by the spirit of crime solving, or something. Anyway. "All I'm sayin', is that if you jus' happen t' keep runnin' int' shit that ev'n the adult cops an' detectives ain', something is wrong."
no subject
He shrugs.
"For me, its always been that way. I'd say its bad luck, except I don't believe in that either."

"Jus'...maybe don' take it so lightly, I guess. That shit'll leave its mark ev'n if y' think it doesn', trust me."
