Day 5 Domino: Let it Snow: Preperations

Early Evening

Due to some of the passengers having strange dreams those on the Voidtrecker Express should be expecting something soon and so it is around dinner time on the evening of the fifth day of Domino that everyone's SCA glows with the colour of the void, a holographic message appears with their next mission.

Those going to the dressing car will find the drawers and wardrobes open. Inside are a variety of warm weather clothes, all in team colours. Thick padded winter jackets, waterproof trousers. Hats, gloves, scarves. Thick boots and also a variety of ice skates. There are waterproof covers for a variety of sizes of bags and even some coils of rope.

It seems they are not arriving until the next morning and so they have time to plan as best they can.

Morning: Day Six

No matter if they stayed up late preparing or went to bed early to get some rest before the mission they will wake up the next morning to the morning announcement. "Good morning passengers. Today is day six of the month of Domino. A moment later the voice speaks again. "Our next stop is world#58291. Drop order: Purple, Blue, Red, Orange. Conditions are adverse and so all passengers must be ready to alite swiftly."

There is time for some final preparation.

"It's a movie." He blinks at him. "You're American, right? Didn't you ever see it? And it is totally awesome."

With a nod, Bucky lets out a heavy sigh. "I'm American, but no, I haven't seen anything called Robocop," though he'd at least heard of it. "And it's not," he says, as he shoves his foot into a skate, to see how well it fits.

"You should it's a fun watch."

Kaito says cheerfully and blinks at him.

"How is it not awesome? It's a robot arm! I mean. I'm sure the REASON you have a robot arm is not awesome. But. Robot arm."

He side-eyes the kid again, then looks down at his metal hand. "Because it's a weapon that's been used to hurt a lot of people that I care about."

Kaito winces.

"Yeah, okay, that bit is very not cool. But you aren't using it as a weapon NOW, are you?" He pauses and the asks, morbidly curious. "Does it like. Transform into a lazer canon?"

Bucky shakes his head. "I can make it stronger, and it's made of an extremely strong alloy, but that's really it," he replies, frowning a little as he pulled off that skate and tried another. "I wish this place weren't asking me to fight again." But he wouldn't say no. He couldn't.

"Opportunity missed." He sighs and tips his head.

"You could say no." He points out. "Lots of other things you could be doing. Bet that arm is really strong. Could be you use it to lift and pull things - be great in a rescue scenario, I bet."

He offers a weak smile, looking over him again. "It would be, but the way I see it if... whoever trapped us here is asking me to help people, even if it means I have to fight, I need to do it. This arm has been used to hurt people too many times. If I work hard enough, maybe I can get the helping to outweigh that," he didn't believe it was possible, but he would absolutely try.

"I'm Bucky, by the way," he stops tying the lace on the skate he's pulled on, to offer the kid his hand.

Kaito shakes his hand.

"Nice to meetcha, Bucky. I'm Kaito. And man, I'm just a stranger, but it sounds to me like the fact that you want to? That's a pretty good start."

Bucky goes back to trying on skates, and it seems the third time's the charm when he tugs on the final pair he had set out. "I hope so, 'cause it's all I can do, at this point," he replies, lacing this last pair up, just like the one before. "Finally," he sighs, and tugs the second one onto his other foot. "So, Kaito. Where are you from, before the train?"

"I know that feel." He nods.

"Japan, me. Don't know if you've ever been? Tokyo."

"Not that I remember, but I suppose I could've," he replies, lacing up the second skate. "I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City. Spent a lot of time in Siberia, though." Not that he remembered most of it, or got to see anything but the inside of a military compound.

Once the skates are on, he gets to his feet... and gets even more webbing in his hair, though he doesn't seem to notice.

"Ooooh memory issues too?" He shakes his head.

"That's gotta suck. And Siberia huh? I guess at least you'll probably cope better with the snow that most of us."

"Yup," that's what happens when they fry your brain for breakfast. "I'm not a fan of the cold, but I'll manage. Make sure you grab some long johns, it'll help more than you think."

Kaito eyes the room around him. "You mean like something thermal? Hm... I dunno if I saw anything like that..."

[luckybucky]

"Yeah, exactly," he agrees, gesturing to one of the drawer sets. "I found some in there, just my size and missing the left sleeve. Whoever set this up has good attention to detail," he flashes a little smile.

Kaito starts pulling drawers open to investigate.

"Huh! That's kind of our... kidnappers? Hosts? Invisible ghost butlers?"

"Kidnappers," Bucky decides. "Unless I forgot signing up for this little joyride," and he was pretty sure he hadn't. He had most of his memory back.... probably.

He starts pulling his skates back off, so he can add them to the pile of supplies he's bringing with him on the mission. "How many of these missions have you been on?"

"Well there IS a worrying gap in everyone's memory - ie how we got onto that trainplatform..." He grins back as he finds things that fit.

"But yeah, kidnappers is probably more accurate. I think this is my... third? Fourth? Something like that."

[luckybucky]

He hums in agreement, even though gaps in his memory were pretty much standard. "You seem pretty relaxed about it, for having been here so long."

"Ehhhh. No point in fussing." He shrugs. "I don't see a point in wasting energy is worrying over what I can't control."

Never loose your poker face, and all that.

"Better to focus on what's in front of me."

Bucky wholly, entirely, one-hundred-percent-ly disagrees with that statement, but he doesn't say so, he just drops his gaze back to the skates that are now neatly tied together and set aside. "Then I hope you return safely from the mission because of it."

Is Kaito telling the truth or lying, who knows? The smile never falters, never breaks.

"I'll be fine. I'm on Orange, so we've got the maze. I'm good at that sort of thing." He says cheerfully.

It never really occurs to Bucky that Kaito might be lying. He assumes most people are honest most of the time -- so far, it's served him pretty well. The only people that have been truly deceptive are ones who were already hurting him in other ways, anyway.

"Yeah, but it's all ice," he replies, frowning tightly. He's glad he's not going to be in the maze. Ice on all sides might be too much for him to handle. "Just don't get stuck, okay?" He'd absolutely come to the rescue, but he doesn't want to have to.

Kaito is a master of saying the truth while lying through his teeth!

"Well yes." He shrugs. "It's okay. I don't have to skate, so it's fine."
