Event: In Pursuit of Knowledge

The day after the Voidtrecker speaks to the voidtreckers they arrive at the voidhub.

"Approaching Voidbase now. Prepare for docking."

There is no shaking, not leaving the void: instead those who risk looking out of the windows will see a large structure ahead of them. The void turns to metal around them as they enter the structure, and for a moment, there is nothing outside the train but darkness.

"Welcome Voidtreckers." A voice speaks over the ICPs. Not the voice of the train, this is a male voice, sentient. "The filtration process takes a few moments, so please be patient. Meanwhile, I am sending some information about our void base over to your SCA's."

They will receive a small pamphlet on their SCA's explaining about the void base, that it was set up as a research base and has been expanded to provide living quarters for some of those rescued from system #78961112094711. It explains that they had made the decision to invite the voidtreckers there to further unravel the mystery surrounding them. They would be quartered in ministry sleeping areas, and have free access to the ministry part of the base. Anyone who wished to visit the citizens of system #78961112094711 could do with good reason.

It's not too long before the filtration process is completed, and the doors of the Voidtrecker Express open. They are greeted by a group of ministry workers. Among which are Lia Nine, Ten Nank, and Anan- who isn't strictly a void ministry worker, but is there to greet them nonetheless.

SETTLING IN

They are shown to their sleeping quarters first. They are in small suites, which match their room assignments on the train. They will be given time to unpack and rest, and told that their SCA's have been programmed to allow them access to the general ministry parts of the base.

Their time here is their own, And though the ministry hopes that they will help out with the various experiments and research programs they have going on, they do not need to. If they wish to take the time to rest and enjoy the amenities, they can.

1. MULTIMEDIA. There are a few types of lounging rooms, chairs and cushions, tables for sitting at. Slim televisions sitting on walls, a few tables - that can be lowered or raised - joined with screens that can be more privately watched. Shows and movies are available in some rooms, gaming equipment in others. There is also a more quiet room for lounging in, with access to e-books and screen readers for them, audio options also available.

Relax, or get into a multiplayer game -- games that break friendships are available in the void.

2. FITNESS AND SWIM. For those looking for more activity in their 'rest', there's the fitness gym and swimming pool. In separate rooms but nearby, the fitness gym is larger than the train's gym, and more well-equipped. Muscle training, speed; there will be a Ministry worker to show how to use the variety of equipment, so that nobody has an accident.

The same will be for the swimming pool, with a shallow and deep end. Balls, floating pads and more can be grabbed. It's a swimming pool - what's not to love?

3. TRAINING. Beside the pool and fitness gym is the combat gym, where they will find small groups already exercising in a variety of fighting styles. Voidtreckers will be left alone to train if they wish, but any who take interest in partners will be allowed to join in with the ministry training. Magic, energy, weaponry; some of them use special batons, Ministry-issued, and the Ministry workers will show how to use them. If a Voidtrecker becomes well-trained in how to use one by the end of their stay, they can be given one to use on void missions.

The Ministry fighters will also introduce them to a special training tool, the hard- and holographic courses and 'dummies'. Quite a few fighting styles can be set to a holographic opponent, or even one made to mimic a voidtrecker after fighting them - they're surprisingly quick to adapt. The hard-light partner can listen and read sign-language, and will change on command. Want them to move faster, focus on attack, dodging? Now they will.

4. GREEN THUMBS, OPEN AIR. The last room in the relaxation area is a curious one, reading simply 'GARDENS AND SIMULATION' on its front. Opening it will lead to a simple and long corridor, five more doors on each side. Four devoted to gardening, labelled Hydroponics, Hot Houses, Ice Houses, and Land. Entering, each space will be larger than should be possible. But it is, with each an indoor type growing space except for land, which mimics a farming field. There's a sky above, a wind in the air; sometimes, it might be raining when you enter.

It might be a shocking experience for some, the first time round.

The last six rooms simulation rooms are less specific, but with plenty more options. Rooms of prayers, beaches, cities, open valleys; with some time spent learning the menu, people can recreate a realistic area. The rooms can be set to private, but some people may leave the spaces they've created - on purpose, at random, or on accident - free for others to wander into. Sharing is caring, and there's only six of these rooms, you know.

TESTING AND EXPERIMENTING

Anyone who wishes to take part in the experiments will be given their options, and led to the appropriate rooms. Health checks, tether scans, combat training; each one is voluntarily, and Voidtreckers will be be granted their results.

There is much to discover, as well to ensure the health and safety of the Voidtreckers. And what can they learn about the Voidtrecker Express, the lost tethers, and the anomaly known as the World Eaters? Time may finally tell...

1. SCA EXPERIMENTS. For those who wish to help out with the SCA and health experiments- be that through taking part in experiments or helping conduct them- they will be shown to the labs. There are a few different labs, doing different things.

The scientists are generally friendly, if very no nonsense. They will answer questions and explain their research, and are open to listening to new ideas and theories. All ideas are on the table. This situation is unprecedented, there are no easy answers.

They will put any voidtreckers to work who wish to help- be it washing beakers or recording data. They will teach as they go- as long as someone is willing to listen and learn, it won't matter if they have no experience in science.

2. REACHING OUT TO THE VOID. At the top of the void base is an area with a clear domed roof, allowing in the light of the void. Here voidtreckers can attempt to reach out, to strengthen their connection with the train and through it try and find those that have left the train.

It's a slow learning curve. Their first few hours of attempts will be meditation that goes no where. but eventually most should be able to tap into their connection with the train and the other passengers.

Reaching out further is harder, often feeling as if they are falling through the void. It's exhausting, not quite so much as anchoring, but similar. It's easy to get lost in the void, though the room has ministry workers who are highly trained and will be able to help anyone who needs it.

They do say it might be easier to go in pairs, to meditate together and help guide each other, using each others tethers as a touch point. Anything is worth a try.

3. ARCHIVES. For those who prefer old-fashioned research, there is plenty to sink their teeth into here. Books, articles, message boards. Everything needs cross-referenced and checked and verified. What is a rumour? What is true?

It's a buzz of activity at all hours, though there are quieter areas for those who need silence to concentrate. For those less skilled at research, there are always notes to copy up neat.

Finding Anan was like finding any of the small handful of faces on the current voidhub. Spying her and Chiff is one things; ambling over with slim bottles of alcohol without a label is something else, and more speaking to what he had on hand than the necessity of preparation.

"Anan, how've you been adapting?" Easy, straightforward, from one person with no body on the other side of his tether to someone whose whole system had been devoured, leaving nothing but their tethered spirits behind... for now, at least.

He offers over one of the alcohol bottles, along with a warm, if wry, smile.

NPC: Ten-Nank

[ Ten-Nank can be found outside the labs where the tests will be conducted, only moving when there's purpose behind it. Otherwise they keep still, mistakable for furniture for how they don't even regard people until regarded first. This includes looking at Ten-Nank for too long, which will get them to turn their head and speak. ] Yes? Hello.

[ Their voice is close to monotone, a pinch of weariness, but those who have spoken to them before knows that as their default. Unlike on Osiga, they wear nothing to cover their ball-jointed android suit, but there are no features to their body to give most people reason to blush.

They are available for speaking to at any point, even when most other workers can't be found. They can also be messaged through the network, for those who want to txt ten-nank.

Cafeteria

Najaran was mostly avoiding the people they helped evacuated. She didn't even realize that she was doing it herself, but she was. Pretty much the only communal area she could be found in consistently was the cafeteria. Because it was Najaran and there was food here. But even though there was food here, she'd be jumpy and nervous. Goligan was watching her nervously, but unsure of what to say.

As soon as they were done with giving people food, Najaran was the first out the door. She didn't offer to help clean or even to help cook. She just wanted to leave. If it wasn't for the food, she'd not have been there at all. And perhaps strangest yet... she's taking no leftovers back to the room. Najaran with food off the train and no lunchboxes is odd indeed to those who know her. Also she isn't summoning any of her creatures to join her...


Gardening

Figuring these were probably safe, Najaran would spend about half of her time that wasn't in the cafeteria in the Gardens. Mostly to give the Adult Woodfolk and the one baby woodfolk some new soil to play with, new plants to discover. She would help herself to produce if allowed, and the lunchboxes would come out here so she could share food with her creatures back in the room, or just have a snack between meals. She's actually showing restraint though, and not taking as much as she usually would. She's also very subdued, for Najaran. Though for those not used to it, it might be hard to tell. Mostly she's sitting and munching fruit and vegetables while watching the Woodfolk explore.


Simulation

She actually brought her SCA - in her pocket, but with her - after the first time she found out about these rooms. She didn't however, figure out how to lock the door. Mostly she had it create forests and ruins inside forests, as if somehow she could find Bisteam. It was never right though. Some looked almost right, but never felt right.

You might find Najaran sitting up in a tree, staring off into the distance, or wandering around lost, unable to find the exit. Or... you might find her sitting at the base of a rather large willow, the times the room created one, crying quietly.

Research

She can also be found waiting to be tested and poked and prodded. She hates it, but anything that can help them learn.... then maybe they can save more people next time. Also... someone told her something disturbing a while back, and it's on the tip of her tongue, so to speak, but she can't... quite... remember...

Simulation

It seemed that, for the past few days, both Ruby and Najaran kept running into each other during their low points. She found the other girl at the willow, crying, leading her to move over to her, sitting down by her.

Spark - Swimming


Swimming? SWIMMING! Where there was water there was FISH! As soon as Spark found out there was swimming, the orange cat was off like a shot. He raced for the swimming area and was immediately disappointed. Oh yeah, swimming pools existed. He could be found, glaring at the pool as though he could intimidate it into giving up fish, sitting right by the edge of the deep end. Some people are being careful not to splash him, because cats and water... he'd hate that, right?


Spark - Reaching out into the void


Meditation was less useful for someone with the attention span of a gnat. He tried at first. That quickly became a back and forth of trying to will the Void or the Train - he wasn't sure really - to either send him to Adrien or to bring Adrien to the Train.

But as much as he wanted that, he couldn't sustain the focus. Soon he got distracted by his own tail. By suddenly feeling itchy, and finally by an attack of MUST NAP NOW. Basically he's forgotten his objective all together within an hour.


Spark - Cafateria


There has to be fish dishes, right? Fellow passengers might find Spark trying to convince the employees that he's a pescatarian. Which would fall apart as soon as they mention any dish that has fish but also other meats. But look, he was willing to tell nearly any lie needed to get a stead diet of fish...



Gar - Multimedia 1


The blond haired boy with the bright green eyes was sitting in one of the seats watching a screen. There was space to join him, and company would probably be welcomed, as he looked like he was bored to tears. But... his brother would have liked this show, it was almost anime. Almost. And in his false memories he often turned on anime as bait to lure his brother in. It was an old habit by now. But he... wasn't an anime fan himself. Especially not the sappy sparkly stories that Adrien liked. But he wasn't about to let himself be experimented on. So he had to fill the hours somehow. And who knows, people from other Void vehicles were here too, right? Maybe Adrien somehow was. Maybe.

Today Gar had small little black and white panda ears on a headband nestled in his messy blond hair, a panda eye mask, black pants, white and black shoes and a white shirt with an image of a panda rolling around with bamboo and the words "Don't panda to me". Because Gar was always in animal pun clothing... And he couldn't bear to not be.

Look, there was only so much boredom Gar could handle before the cushions were coming off every seat he could reach so he could build a "COUCH FORT!" He would yell that gleefully. Look, his appearance was very like Greg's. Some of Greg's personality leaked into his creation of Gar. And the longer he was away from Adrien, the more and more like Greg he was likely to lean. And Greg plus cushions meant couch forts. Always.

He has a stack of pillow ammunition for any who would dare to challenge his domain. But if there are no attacks - and no demands to return the pilfered cushions - he will eventually fall asleep inside his couchfort.

Swimming

One of the things Kairi always loved was swimming. Maybe that was an upside to having lived most of her life on an island surrounded by water and for all one knew, no sharks or dangerous animals close by.

So when she saw there was one here she was sure as heck going to take the chance to swim. At least that was until she saw Spark.

Locked to roommates and close CR - first day

Xion would, shocking no one, spend most of her time in the room unless forced to interact more with the world. But she'd be happy to talk to Axel or Roxas or Taiki if he visited, and probably wouldn't run away or anything if Vexen showed up. She's getting better.

Experiments - OTA
The reason she'd be so much extra freaked is that she is willingly going for the experimentation. Which is traumatic to begin with because unknown Somebodies and being afraid they'd realize, or think, that she was just a thing and try to take her apart. But she'd done this in Diatu, and it always went badly, but something good usually happened after the bad finally ended. And Roxas being here was something good, and bad things always happen to her after good, so if she volunteered for the bad... then maybe nothing else bad had to happen? Maybe?

She was terrified during, and... not much calmer after. Like she constantly expected something terrible to happen...


Locked to Taiki
Xion's emotions have been all over the place since Roxas appeared. But her fear hadn't been this bad in a while. Starting late the first night she seemed to be constantly afraid. And as time passed it was only getting worse, not better. Roxas would have noticed, of course, but he is rooming with her. Taiki... would have to find her. And she'd be hiding. A lot. Trying to find quiet places where no one else was so that when the bad happened no one else would get hurt...

Locked for Roxas, for after the first night
Xion had come back to the room the first night in a state of near terror. But she had gone right to bed and curled up, hiding her face. She wouldn't have responded much. She would have left first thing the next morning, terror still radiating off of her, and she wouldn't return till she thought the others would be gone. At which point she'd be back into their room, hiding from everything, keeping her face buried so she didn't have to see anything, hands over her ears, like she was trying to block the sound.

Taiki's emotions had been similarly all over the place lately but he can feel her through the bond and he knows when her the fear spiked. He knew that the last month or so her feelings had been about Roxas, not this fear?

Perhaps being in such a place like this. He knows her history.

He follows his feet to find her, hiding does little against a bond like this. Still he approached cautiously.

"It's Taiki." He said softly, to announce his presence.

Quarters

Usagi blinked as she was guided to the room she and Kyoko would (presumably) share. It was quite simple, if not better than what the train offered. Honestly, she didn't trust what was going on, but she was going to take what she could from this place.

In that case, that meant flopping on the bed in a heap. "Uuugh, I just got here and I wanna pass out..." she groaned, laying on the bed and burying her face in a pillow.

Power Tests

At first, Usagi didn't understand why she opted to play along with the scientists and wanting to see what she could do. There was, honestly, nothing special she could do that could help them in any way, could there?

But, the tests just kept dragging on and on and on and on! They were just so curious about what she could do and how far she can go they had to see more.

"Uuuugh, please, can we stooooop?" Usagi groaned. "We've been in here for an hour and the floor is cold." Standing in the tube in nothing but the simple leotard of her costume was not fun.

Training

There was a part of Usagi that was excited to see something like this - special holographic and hard-light courses and training dummies. Training with Kyoko and the others was fun and all, but she wanted to train in a way without dragging others into the mess.

Of course, there was a part of her that wanted to see how far it could go and decided to push the training dummy to see what it could do. To Usagi's surprise, she was finding herself fighting... herself. This was an Usagi would was willing to use powers she knew she had but withheld for fear of using them or overpowering people.

This meant that Usagi had to push herself, do things she usually didn't do just to keep up.

And she was enjoying this.

MULTIMEDIA.

After a little time getting himself comfortable - settling in, seeing his room, avoiding all the people that he has been sharing said room with for months now and then beginning to walk around their new settled place - Emet-Selch begins to find somewhere to waste some of his time.

He ignores the gaming equipment entirely, instead focussing on the televisions and books that are on offer. There is time to be spent on the strangeness of what one might call 'modern theatre' and he accepts that, letting himself watch some of the films that are on offer before he turns to the ebooks.

There isn't that much that he can do to really entertain himself - the strangeness of the films doesn't quite give him the same satisfaction of watch a real-life performance - but it's better than nothing.

While not entertaining himself Emet-Selch can be found wandering around the entertainment room, letting himself at least carry the pretence of a man interested in what is on offer to him.

OPEN AIR (ENDWALKER SPOILERS IN LINKS).

When not getting himself in trouble reading and watching television Emet-Selch is investigating the gardens, something that harks back to a time that may well have otherwise been long forgotten. There is a fondness in him now for the open air and green spaces, for what seems like the more natural of things, and there is no denying how much he wishes to just sit, at least for a while.

With the realisation that the final rooms can create something more simulated, Emet-Selch gets to work. He is familiar enough with creation that he knows what he is searching for, and he presses buttons and makes changes to create what he wants, what he is looking for best.

The landscape that is in front of him when he creates the room makes him look peaceful for almost the first time in a long time. He does not bother with the notion of setting privacy - he simply does not care and does not imagine that anyone would want to come and settle so near him. At least not the people that he thinks do not know him.

Others may well risk it.

He ends up sitting under a tree, staring forward, idly thoughtful.

ARCHIVES.

Emet-Selch isn't necessarily interested in actively helping out the train or the research into the Void, but there is no denying he has a level of curiosity to him when he steps into the archives.

It's the books that bring him forward most of all, making him curious and interested, and he lets himself begin to compare books, reference them, trying to bring information together.

Frustratingly, not all of it makes sense to him, but at least he is making an attempt. He cannot be faulted for that, he supposes.

Romeo wasn't really sure where to start. There were so many books and articles here! He was used to being around lots of knowledge, he had lived his first year in a library after all but this is a bit different.

It doesn't help that there's so much he doesn't understand. Still he is knelt on a chair so he could reach the desk and is looking through articles.

"But how could you write about if your world got eated if you got eaten too?"

Unless people were in the void when it happened. Would they write about it?

FITNESS AND SWIM.

There is something to be said for the immediate interest that Jiang Cheng has in the swimming, and how quick he is to go out of his way to spend as long as possible doing it.

Stripped down to shorts and nothing else, Jiang Cheng spends hours swimming backwards and forwards in the pool, lap upon lap, almost without stopping. What is undeniable is the fact that he is very good at it, his movements in the water as natural to him as breathing: having grown up on a pier he had been learning to swim since as long as he can recall and it is one of the things that he has always been one of the best at.

It's a skill he has clung to over the years, something that he can claim as his own: he is one of the best swimmers Lotus Pier had before it was destroyed and still one of their best now, with it being rebuilt around him.

After a fairly lengthy amount of time in the pool he does stop and take a break to wash away the strange smells - it's not like swimming in an open river and he realises it as he cleans it off, drying and making his way to the fitness gym.

He's better dressed now in shorts and some kind of shirt - and he ignores the ministry workers who try to help or give him advice, going immediately to weights and spending a good amount of time there.

For all that Jiang Cheng might be poor at speaking and poor at most other things it is clear that when it comes to training he is good.

TRAINING.

For a little while Jiang Cheng doesn't do much more than hover around the combat gym, watching people go in and out and begin to do whatever activity they've chosen. It's curiosity more than anything else, comparing what is happening to what he knows.

He waits for the most part, waiting to see if anyone wants to practice, if there is anyone who has an interest in fighting either with him or against him - and there's no denying that he might be a particularly good opponent, dressed in his proper battle robes with his Zidian at his side.

Eventually, he spends time moving around and talking to anyone who seems interested in any kind of tips and advice, stepping in to adjust forms, to tell people when he thinks they could do better - but only if they're open to it. Otherwise, he stands, more of a glowering figure than someone who might actually be friendly.

REACHING OUT TO THE VOID.

Meditation is something that Jiang Cheng can do.

There's no part of him that really wants to go out of his way to help the train, given how poorly the situation has felt on his side, the strangeness of the feeling and the awkwardness of having, time and time again, terrible things happen to him. He doesn't want to help them, doesn't want to be someone who is going to fix their problems, but he knows better than to just sit out.

The last time he sat out of things it ended poorly; he can't repeat that mistake.

So, he meditates. It takes a long time, almost longer than he has the patience for, making him prickle and feel strange and on edge. Feeling the connection eventually feels strange, but there's a gentle purple glow as he does it, connecting with his golden core as he meditates.

He comes back to himself immediately and ends up resting on the ground, back against the wall, hand resting on a raised knee as he closes his eyes and tries to breathe. It feels strange, an odd disconnect, and he has to make himself count backwards from ten a number of times before he feels any type of better.

It's not good, he thinks, and he's not sure he can do it again.

Does it have to be meditation?

Tidus isn't opposed, but it's the reason he plans to go for the attempts later, thinks he'll be in a better place to try by then. But earlier him didn't suspect how his ears would be ringing after the tethering scanning, and it and the grogginess brought on by it still hasn't left Tidus by the time he reaches the domed room, sees Jiang Cheng.

"You look beat. That bad?"

There's concern, when a guy like Jiang Cheng - who's told him that he has to be controlled, seems the type to be far better at meditation than him by a long shot, or more experienced - is looking like he needs a breather. Is having a small breather, to be exact.

But then - none of this was ever going to be easy, was it?

Lioriley went alone, at first, spending hours in deep meditation to strengthen her connection with the train and the void in general. It was tiring work, but she had patience enough to sit for hours on end — to the point that some might think something had gone terribly wrong, especially when her normally bright leylines seemed to dim and flicker like something was sapping the color out of them.

The further into the void she went, the darker those lines became, until they suddenly seemed to burst with light; blinding white and crackling with electric energy along her dark skin. Her eyes widened, her breath coming quick and shallow, head spinning.

"Perhaps...I should take a partner, next time." She suggested quietly to either researcher or fellow voidtreckers nearby.

Pouring through the archives as familiar and, apparently, far safer than her attempts to explore the void first hand. She had found a spot to sit, books and compilations of articles now mingling with her own information filled journals. Frequently she could be seen cross-referencing cross references of other crossed references and, honestly, it probably looked like a mess to anyone but her.

The tether-exploration exercises were where Seto chose to spend most of his time. The list of lost friends and family he was looking for could fill several pages of his train-issued notebook by this point---and it did, in fact. He had that notebook sitting on the floor in front of him, and he paused to write notes after every attempt.

He'd just roused himself from another failed attempt, and had picked up his pen when he heard Lioriley speak...and she wasn't looking too great. He scooted a little closer just in case.

Xue Yang was ready to throw a tantrum. Another boring world! Another world with no fighting...another world where he has nothing but boredom in his future. He hates these worlds. He is slumped down in a chair, clearly pouting because this is not at all what he wants to be doing. He doesn't care about their research. So now he doesn't know what to do other then sit here and be miserable.

He has found the training room and at least he can let out some frustrations. He has been given one of the batons and although he doesn't quite understand, he is a quick learner. So he is learning and training with it for now. He probably will get bored with it eventually and go back to his swords. But for now...he is doing what he can to learn how to use it.

Even though the train has the same kind of technology, Xie Lian hasn't really used most of it. So now that he is thrown into a place where his options are mostly recreational, he figures it is a good time to grow more accustomed. So now he moves from the movies, to the games, to everything in between. He has very little success in actually figuring it out but for the most part he understands that these things are for sitting and watching.

Fitness
He doesn't really need to be training. But he figures he might as well make sure his body is still in shape. He isn't familiar with these different machines and things that are in the fitness center but he is able to figure them out. It takes a lot of weight to even give him a small bit of strain so apparently his body hasn't lost the tone it had back on his world.

Gardening
Xie Lian sits in the open fields of the Land area. It isn't like home, but it is similar and familiar and he enjoys it. He doesn't need to be actually farming to be able to enjoy this space. He simply wants to sit and meditate and enjoy the peace. He can see across farming land which is very similar to what he would see from his temple. It's nice to be able to sit and just not think about anything.

The room with the fields is.. odd. It feels like Inigo is outside, but his brain tells him that he's still technically inside, and it threatens to give him a headache if he thinks about it too much..

.. or maybe he's just tired from all the other things he's been doing here already, who knows. That's just as likely.

But it still leaves his mind just scrambled enough that he almost assumes Xie Lian to just be part of the landscape here, especially with the way the other is sitting there so quietly and still, like he's some sort of statue. It's only when Inigo doubles back that he realises there had been a living person sitting there all along.

Sure, he can see the other is just sitting there, but with everything going on here at this base, he can't help but wonder if there's some sort of secondary purpose to it.

He didn't know what was happening until suddenly the device he picked up was talking to him. Not just talking...but it appeared to be reading a book to him. It was quite startling at first and he wasn't sure how it happened. He probably should have just set it down and walked away but now that he is listening to it he has found interest in what the book is telling him. He doesn't quite understand all of it or know how to turn it off but he figures at this point he will simply have to continue until the book is over.

Fitness
Handstands are the known training method of his sect. And Lan Wangji has not been taking care of his training like he should have been. So right now he is doing his handstands in the fitness center in an attempt to get back into the routine he is used to. There are plenty of other workout options in the room but this is the best way to start his workout.

Garden
He has found his way into a garden area and is seated among the plants. All he wanted was a quite place to meditate. He doesn't know that he would be helpful with any of the experiments so he is content to just rest and relax for now. The best way to do that is to have a meditation routine worked out. And while most people are busy with other things, it is the perfect time to settle into this quiet area and meditate.

Let's be real, it's probably the latter option. But it's that option that brings her to the lounge all the same. It's relatively quiet there, with most people quietly seeming to be reading books..

.. but that makes Wangji's audio book stand out so much more. Madoka blinks when she sees the source of the sound, and that's when she slowly approaches the man.

"Mister Wangji.. Um, are you having fun reading that..?"

Look, it's hard to tell with the way the other's face is, okay. Madoka thinks Wangji looks the same in a whole lot of situations, probably since he's got a much better grip on emotions than she herself does.. but it also means that she can't quite tell if he's serious as usual in this moment or actually relaxing a little.

Clef will subject himself to any and every test that might help them understand how tethering worked with people who have spent so long so close to the chaos of Nautilus. Anything at all that could help him find Link. Those seeing Clef between tests will see the miniature mage looking more focused and grim than he's ever been before.


Reaching out
If it takes will and focus... Clef has those in spades. So he focused. Whatever it would take to reach his boy. If he could use his will to reach through the void... If Link was trapped he was determined to help him and bring him back. And if he had left to help others - and to be honest, it was Link... that was possible - then he wanted to go and help him before bringing him back to the Train.

Clef was spending any moment he wasn't trying to reach through the void or being experimented on to study all he could find. And specifically to copy every book he could on tethers and any related topics that might be of help in finding his son. He had to find Link. Had to help him. No matter what.

Fai for the most part was briefly glancing through what was available. This could all be pretty useful, but Fai figured that the odds were likely someone was already making notes or something that could help the train, so he didn't think to do that himself.

Simulations of Green Hills

The train felt too small and this space station was equally boring. After awhile, Sonic was pointed towards the simulation rooms. Stepping in, he cracked his knuckles in anticipation. “Alright, let’s see what we can come up with, hmm?”

After a few minutes, one could hear a cheer as Sonic sped through the newly created area. Large fields of grass with brown checkered-pattered landmasses, large landmasses resembling loop-de-loops, floating platforms, even various animal-shaped robots marching around.

Look-Alike

So, the scientists wanted to know more about Sonic’s abilities, but being in a cramped tube just wouldn’t cut it. Instead, he convinced them to let him spar with someone. Thus, he was pointed to the holographic dummies. After a small battle, the dummy changed into Sonic…

…and things really took off. The next thing anyone would know, the two figures would be bouncing around the training area, meeting each other head on before coming to a dead stop, both of them trying and failing to overpower the other.

“You might know everything I’m going to do, but that won’t help you because I know everything you’re going to do! STRANGE, ISN’T IT?!”

If you’re wandering around the area and you pass by the children’s area, you might happen to find, amongst the children running around, a grumpy blue hedgehog. Seems like someone got mistaken for a kid despite the SCA claiming otherwise.

“Hey, can you let me out?” He called out. “Someone here has a screw loose and thinks I need to be here.”

Wangji has been taking a break from all the hard science he's been attempting, wandering through and taking at look at various facilities. He has always had a soft spot for children, but this is a strange first for him; he's never met a blue... hedgehog? before.

"...May I ask your age first?" Wangji does a good job of internalising his shock beyond some startled blinks and decides that this may as well happen, the train has some very odd passengers.

Training:

While having spent time in the gym and pool doing his daily training, Sebek is eager to learn how to fight with one of those batons. How different would it be than a sword?

The Ministry fighter seems happy to have such an attentive, enthusiastic audience with Sebek, who seems to take to it easily. With his strength, the knockback is powerful. The worker shows some non-sword based moves and how to use the stun features. Then it's onto practice with the hardlight dummy. Sebek's eyes light up at the possibilities. The hardlight dummy can even fight left-handed, which gives Sebek practice he doesn't normally get.

"Do you think we can get one of these for the train? It works so much better than the one we have." A boring stationary target is no good for advanced training.

Archives:

It's a lesser known fact that Sebek is an avid reader. He likes stories. He likes theory. For someone as dedicated to his physical training as he is, it seems strange that his hobby is one so stationary and quiet. He pours over the archives, making notes as if he's studying for class. He looking for anything related to disappearing worlds and anything that sounds remotely helpful. He's also the guy to call if a book is too high up to reach. (Watch him beam at the prospect of doing so.)

A few times he'll leave the archives, exercise a bit, clean up, and then come right back. His own studying method will keep him focused when there is so much he doesn't understand.

"I'm finished with this article should you need it for cross-referencing." Sebek pushes aside the paper and starts to skim another for the basic ideas.

SCA Experiments

Did somebody say science? Mordin is thrilled to learn that the researchers here are digging into the exact sort of questions that he's been interested in exploring. It doesn't take long to realize the facilites here are far more extensive than anything it would be feasible to add to the train. And research tends to go better with an extensive team.

He'll let them examine him for any test that he wants. And in exchange he'll help out in any way that they let him. He might not know exactly this equipement but he's very familiar with the scientific method.

He'll even try to get his fellow passengers in on the fun. "Looking to learn?"

And of course, he's also making his best puppy dog eyes at the researchers in hopes of getting his hands on some of that data.

But he has an overriding need to be useful, so he reluctantly approaches Mordin. "I used to hate those words. But just to warn you: I'm an ideas guy, not a math guy. Or a lab guy. Or a finances guy."

Molly will not be volunteering for any testing, thank you very much. There are far too many supervillains or government operatives (and it's hard to tell the difference some days) who like to experiment on mutants. She will be staying far away from that.

She spends some time watching shows. ANd eventually she finds the gaming equipment and goes looking for people to join in multiplayer. "Wanna play?"

Okay, this looks fun. Balls! Floating rafts! A nice big deep end. "Cannonball!"

It's not exactly complicated, it's just another way to play.

Training

She does eventually find her way over to something that might actually pass for productice. Not that she particularly cares for productive at her age. But she can see how this would be useful.

She still needs to be careful. She in theory knows her limits, but she doesn't like risking it. So she'll go looking for a familiar face of any sort. "Can you spot me?"

Post SCA Experiments: Simulation room

Death Incarnate looks like death. With Zagreus present, Thanatos hadn't gone into a nervous panic at the small enclosed testing rooms. With how he feels now, Thanatos doesn't dwell on it further. It keeps him from going to the archives or doing much else. Zagreus being there couldn't keep him from all the bright lights and sounds that surrounded him as the Ministry studied his tether. It's his chthonic nature that makes him so affected by the testing, and Thanatos knows it needed to be done.

So all that's left is dealing with his overloaded senses and the migraine. He lays on the "floor" of the simulation room. Although, others could be forgiven for thinking he's floating because the entire room is a night sky, quiet, cool, still. Thanatos could have tried to find something like the Underworld, but at his core, this is where he comes from. The night always bolsters his strength.

He's willing to let others change the room as long as it's calm, relatively quiet, and nighttime. Just let him (and Mort) lay useless on the ground.

Reaching out...?

No matter which choice Thanatos makes, it seems to be the wrong one. Torn between looking for Persephone and not wanting to strengthen his tie to the train, Thanatos lingers around the area but not entering. The first few days the workers turned him away due to his condition after the tests and made the decision for him. Thanatos couldn't, didn't argue with it. He left to do other things like give his memory to the train and recover more.

However, the dilemma returns once he feels better, and he still has no answer. Or maybe he does.

"... I can't..." he says quietly to Mort. "If we could look for them without strengthen our tether to the train, I would try. But, I can't. Tie myself closer. It's too much already."

She would understand why he couldn't though, right? But now would also be the best chance to connect with Persephone because she just left.

[Since getting he sword back, Wangji has been feeling lax in his ability. He is out of practise in heavy combat, letting it fall to the way side as time moved on to more of the verbal kind of fighting.
Taking the time to warm up before approaching the space; he asks the ministry fighters to explain and demonstrate the holographic courses and dummies that come with it.
If one were to come across him in this space, you will see him using his sword in a simulated fight against various opponents, from himself to void monsters and even a few people passengers may recognise like the now departed Lan Xichen.]

SCA experiments
[Wangji has been around a while, but that doesn't mean he knows what a pipette is for and it shows. He walks too close to a sensitive machine that appears to me measuring...waves? Of some kind? Which sparks in indignation of his very presence.

His tests do look pretty cool though, he is showcasing his sword and the ranged attacks with it and how he can ride it if anyone wants a look. Otherwise he will be waiting his turn and idly playing a replicated stringed instrument he needs for the second part of his demonstration.]

Reaching out into the Void
[Meditation should come easily enough to Wangji, he's been doing it for long enough, but this is an added level of difficulty that is just infuriating. Scientists have tried talking it through with him but it's the reaching out he truly struggles with. Perhaps if someone else is looking for a departed friend they can combine their powers?
As it is, he will be in the waiting area recovering from his latest attempt. A little sweaty and visibly frustrated at his lack of progress.]

[ Tidus hears him speak as he enters the space, hearing what he says, but taking in the state of the man first. He's somewhere between giddy and apprehensive himself, countless faces he wants to reach out for, search.

Training:
Since he was stuck doing nothing once more, he decided to train and to see what this place to offer. He was growing restless and had a lot of energy he needed to burn. He also wanted to prove himself be of use some how. He was especially interested in the various weaponary that this place had to offer. He asked to be trained on the various weapons. While he didn't have magic, he had his qi that he could use.

Gardens/Medical:
During his down time he sought out the gardens checking out what they had to offer. He wondered if anything can be used for his poisons or for that matter medical uses. He looked around trying to see if there were people who could help train him more on the medical field.

Reaching out to the void:
Since Xie'er was familiar with meditation he thought he could help here. He wasn't sure what to expect or what he would find. But if this could help it was something he could do. So he asked for guidance not wanting to get lost.

Quatre had happened to pass by the training rooms. He always counted himself as not very good at physical activity, which... he wasn't. But he also felt guilty. Maybe if he tried harder, he wouldn't be so bad at it.

So he headed into the training room. There was someone else already in there, perhaps having gotten there not long ahead of him.

I – Settling in
It’s honestly nicer than most of the spacecraft Vegeta has been on, heading to and setting down his stuff in the room Bulma and he would share while staying here. However he’s curious to see the other parts of the station, planning to head out and just look around those areas available to them. It’s always a good idea to get an understanding of your surroundings, and he’s not against some company as he explores the different locations to learn what was available and where.

II – Training
One of the locations Vegeta is most certainly going to make use of is those training rooms. Especially the smaller, more isolated ones. Talking to staff had assured him they would be able to take any stress put on them, and with a room to himself, or anyone who thinks they may be able to stand it, Vegeta wants a chance to let loose without concern for others around him.

Whether it’s taking up the risk of joining him, able to observe what Vegeta tends to hold back on during his normal training on the train, or meeting up with him afterwards or while he’s taking a break, as much as he’s enjoying a chance to not restrict his ki use he’ll be aware to turn it down if the other person may be at risk near him.

III – SCA Experiments
The testing chamber for the power testing on the other hand wasn’t so well enforced, Vegeta still going through his transformations and charging up before those alarms started. In a way… he’s rather proud that he could break the machinery, or risk it at least. On the other hand, what a waste of time. He may had still pushed it a bit far… but time would tell if that was an issue for the equipment they were using or not. It’s not like he fully blew it up…

Yes, Trunks and Vegeta trained regularly on the train. It was not the same however, as the opportunity here. Neither had to hold as much back as they did on the train. Even with them trying to train at times when no one else was likely to be around, it was always a risk.

So, here was Trunks, ready to train. Black tanktop, black combat pants, and his hiking boots. No sign to mark him as a voidtrecker except his SCA and a nearby Purple hoodie that'd been discarded. He knew, despite being his father, Vegeta would push him hard and give no quarter except to not break him permanently.

Right then, blue-eyes were narrowed in focus, fighting stance defensive and ready as he studied his father for some tell or move.

Idia Shroud | Orange Team | OTA

I – Multimedia
You better bet that once Idia finds out about those gaming systems that he’s going to make the most of them. It’s so good to find new games! And he’s getting a little sick of playing the same games over and over again on the train. He needs new ones! Not that he doesn’t like the train ones, but… variety is nice.

He’ll mostly focus on the single player ones, but others may spy him using NPCs to play against the multiplayer ones rather than asking someone to play. Because… it’s Idia, and asking others to play with him is just a step too far for him. Others asking to join though? Well… that may work.

II – Archives
Idia is not there to help anyone, only himself. He’s looking for anything that may resemble Blot that may prove useful for him to have information on in the future. Plus anything that catches his eye about those tethers and their connections to ‘souls’, much like that book he had borrowed off Kaiba awhile ago. Not that it had been much help, mostly belief based, so Idia is hoping for something more factual.

However, “This is so frustrating!” Why is it all in paper version?! On space station! Why haven’t these people digitized this all?! This is why Idia hated libraries. Books were useless! Why not have it all on computers where you could look something up?!

So don’t be surprised to find an agitated Idia hunkered down in a corner surrounded by books, going between several open ones to cross reference stuff he’s been coming across, before finding it useless, closing those books, and starting on new ones, grumbling to himself the entire time.

III – Hacking the System
It’ll be towards the end of their stay that Idia starts playing around with the station’s systems, poking around out of curiosity on the testing being done. He’s looking for two particular people’s readings, if they did the testing that is, but if he also comes across other stuff that may be useful to him… he’ll make note and copies of them.

He’s taken up a place near one of the more isolated terminals around the station, his own computer with several holoscreens up as he rapidly types away on them. This system… it was pretty good. Not good enough, but pretty good. Idia’s not done any real serious hacking for a long time now, he kind of fell out of that interest when he was still a child. Oh, his earlier stuff was so embarrassing, what a foolish child he was. He got what he wanted, but looking back… it was so immature, he’d rather forget about it.

However that history of being up to no good helped here, Idia smiling to himself as he got through to those profiles and the results, skimming through those he wanted to keep copies of…

Kaiba was finally dragged away from the tether testing room, and he turned his brain to other pursuits: this time, the archives. He wasn't sure what he'd find, or just how long it would take to find it.

...so he snorted in agreement when he heard a complaint. "Incredibly inefficient. And even if I had the equipment to scan the books, the tech to expedite the process by reading multiple pages at once isn't there yet. Next project."

Rest and Relaxation

The suites are not of much interest to Rezo and much like the cabins on the train, he’ll rarely be found in them outside of when he’s asleep. Really, the amenities in general don’t catch his interest, although you may find him at the swimming pool sometimes, wrinkling his nose at the chlorine scent and carefully making laps around the deep end.

Late in the stay he makes a few forays into the quiet lounge, where you may see him attempting to get an e-reader working. During an early attempt, he presses the wrong thing and a woman’s voice, overly ominous, reads out:

“I was suddenly chilled with panic at the thought that I might not be alone. Turning quickly in the direction from which I came, I tried to open the door-”

Rezo makes an annoyed noise and presses a button which turns the sound off.

Laboratory Work

Most of Rezo’s time ends up being spent at the labs. Despite the unfamiliar technology and the uncomfortable fact that he is volunteering to be a test subject, the research is interesting and important to everyone involved, which keeps him more than content to throw himself wherever he might be needed.

Which, as it turns out, is just about everywhere. One hour you might be able to find Rezo being prodded at by one of the voidbase’s mysterious machines; or asking questions about how said machines work; maybe overhear him talking to a scientist in a hushed, agitated voice; see him sitting outside the tether scanner holding his head in his hands; popping tools into an autoclave; jotting down notes; or calling upon fire, ice, wind, etc. in the glass isolation chambers.

Astral shamanism seems of particular interest to the void scientists, and those spells cause strange lights and shadows to dance through the isolation chambers as he casts them.

Research, Research, Research

And of course, like any good little nerd, Rezo can be found working away at the archives, another worker bee nestled away in the hive of activity, rifling through books and tapping away at a laptop. His workspace is cluttered, but tidy, everything carefully stacked and organized so he can easily grab whatever he needs. He frowns lightly as he works, usually deeply absorbed in the data he’s sorting through.

Lab Work

Zenos has been in and out of the labs as often as the combat areas, helping where he can - the Garlean prince is no scientist, but he's a terrifyingly fast learner and is surprisingly handy to have around, if not for his strength and size then for his unnatural perceptiveness and Resonant vision. As someone who had left the train and then returned at a later date, he's also a subject of some poking and prodding.. but that was some hours ago.

Now, he's watching magic being conjured up inside glass isolation chambers, hands folded behind his back, unobtrusive. That his eyes are glowing red on black instead of their usual human blue simply means he's paying extra attention to what Rezo and the void scientists are doing.

Magic is something no Garlean can handle without the help of technology, after all. Such things are painfully beyond him, but it doesn't mean he isn't interested.

Tidus ; OTA

For those that Tidus knows even decently, he'll offer for them to team up, even with a simple "You wanna go together?" on the subject of working on establishing contact with the train - and further. He could find your character in the domed roof room already, or elsewhere in the base; and he'll give a light smile, add:

"Heard it's better to do it with someone than alone."

But that doesn't mean he can't be found going at it alone. He might be seen, with a handheld device sat on the floor and with a few images displayed, some printed photographs too: those taken during the art day in Kazoo. They're not all pictures of people he's been closed to, but there's faces around you can catch sight of. People here. People gone.

He's got the badge Della gave him, his own necklace on the ground before him, shaped by a fist held up and a sun blazing behind it. Then there's his memories inside, the faces and people that clutter his mind even more than the mess in front of him.

Focus, focus. And he thinks he might have some half of a chance of doing it - of doing it better - compared to the him before the train. His practise of meditation with Piccolo, what he's been learning from Clef. Focus despite the distractions, despite the discomfort. Despite his own heart, despite using it to guide him to find something he can reach out for. A person. Anyone.

Tidus keeps at it for as long as the Ministry workers will let him, takes the minimum amount of a break before he tries again. He can be found doing this regularly, taking a break in the nearby lounge area afterwards, or by a wall before he leaves. He wears a more serious face on him than usual when he's by his own, thoughts elsewhere, not always noticing other people when they enter rooms.

He had some interest in the utilities of the base when they first arrived, but as time goes on, the only place to take a break he cares much for is the swimming pool - even if it's just to float, or to sink inside.

His thoughts are always somewhere else, and it's easy to see. He can't keep his mind off that goal. He wants to find them. Everyone.
